I have been going to Salon Dragonfly for 10+ years now and absolutely love the vibes/atmosphere and most importantly the people. They are all super experienced so I'd feel comfortable in any of their hands but I personally have been depending on Caitlin for many years now. Caitlin is extremely professional and personable. I have extremely thick hair and a lot of it and Caitlin is always super patient and accommodating. She doesn't try to rush through it, she LISTENS to what you want/are looking for, gives her input if wanted, and takes it to the next level- every single time it looks beautiful! I usually go every 4-5 months for touch ups, haircuts, toner, and Olaplex treatments. I am never disappointed and always feel great when leaving the salon. read more

My experience from a year ago, and I felt I needed to share in case anyone is trying to get lighter hair - this is not the place. Unless you want darker hair, do come here in hopes of lightening. My experience here was extremely disappointing and, unfortunately, one I will never forget. I came in with a very simple request: I wanted my hair lightened. Instead, the stylist assigned to me dyed my hair darker--the exact opposite of what I had asked for. What should have been a straightforward two- or three-hour appointment turned into a seven-hour ordeal that caused significant damage to both my hair and my wallet. Once the owner realized that my hair had been darkened rather than lightened, I was subjected to an even more aggressive bleaching process in an attempt to correct the mistake. By that point, I was already distressed and concerned about the condition of my hair. What upset me most was the complete lack of accountability. Not once did I receive a sincere apology for the error, the excessive processing, or the inconvenience. From my perspective, both the stylist and the owner seemed more focused on moving past the situation than acknowledging the stress, wasted time, and damage caused. I was left sitting in the salon until after dark while they attempted to correct a mistake that never should have happened in the first place. To make matters worse, I was charged additional money, yes they charged me MORE to destroy my hair, because the owner had to assist with fixing the color correction. I came in with beautiful golden-brown grow-out that I specifically wanted to preserve, and I left with hair that had been darkened, over-processed, and then aggressively bleached in an effort to reverse the mistake. The entire experience left me feeling frustrated, upset, and taken advantage of. I lost an entire day, spent far more money than expected, and walked away with damaged hair and no meaningful acknowledgment of responsibility from the salon. Needless to say, I never returned and would not trust this salon again. I went here for a cut, thinking their $5 off for walk-ins sounded helpful. I questioned the man at the front desk about pricing, and he was a bit vague, stating that it depended on the stylist, but he gave me a ballpark range of $35 to start without a blow dry. My hair is short and I like it short, so it takes little time to dry - no blowdry necessary. When I went to the stylist station, I realized the guy who'd been at the front desk was the person doing my hair... Come on, like he couldn't tell me how much he charged, himself, for a freaking cut? During the course of our conversation as he cut and cut my hair I was talking about how difficult it's been trying to find a good stylist. He commented that he knew that, and as he'd just moved back to town after being gone for a while, his former clients were all oohh so glad he was back. As he was finishing my hair, the owner told him some people had come to see him specifically, so he finished my haircut quickly. The cost of my cut - without blow-dry, remember- was $45, and I suppose that included my $5 off? I asked, but I guess they didn't hear me because they ignored the question. I suppose I should have been less of a doormat. I made a tentative appointment for my next cut, but was pretty sure I wouldn't keep it. When I called to cancel that appointment, I decided to ask about pricing. I was told that the cost of the haircut depends on the amount of time a stylist spends cutting it. I have never heard of an hourly salon like this. Overall, I was pleased with my haircut for the most part, though I had to tell him to do the sides shorter once, and likely I would have preferred it even shorter still, but he was rushing to get done to fit in these other walk-ins. The ambience of the salon is not great; it's dark and gloomy and as one other person commented in this thread, you get the idea that they just want to make money... My hair guy said, "what products would you like to buy." "Um, none, I have some at home" I said. Earlier he had mentioned that the key to a really good hairstyle is in the products you use.Huh, funny, I thought it was the cut. But maybe that's just me. As well, I was offered some tea at the start of my appointment, but never received it. This was my least-pleasant experience since 2 years ago at Beauty Parade, which was beaten only by a $12 haircut at a chain store in 2000. So... Don't go there, don't believe the sign that offers discounts to walk-ins. It seems like they just jack up the cost to be the equivalent of pretty much most other salons in the area. HIGHLY recommended!!! I have been here twice and both times I have been so happy! The first, Hope gave me a great haircut and went out of her way (including doing research) to figure out how to best achieve the look I wanted. She was friendly, invested and did a great job! Today, Adam did my hair and I left telling him this might be the best my hair has every looked! He listened carefully- I asked for a "bronde" balayage. My hair is naturally a light brown/dark blonde, and I wanted to brighten my hair without the upkeep. He ensured to give me what I wanted...and then some! I love it. It is a nice beachy blonde. Its not quite as bright as I may have initially anticipated BUT I think I love it even more! Adam didn't tone my hair bc the color came up nicely, which saved me $30. i was a spontaneous 'walk-in' potential client. I asked if i could have a consultation for a possible hair cut one day, just getting opinions. I ended up talking w/ the owner,Jay. She was a bit too hard sale and I definitely felt pressure to get my hair done immediately. She was promoting Deva Curl products and hair cut. Next thing I knew I was buying products and having my hair cut -spending money that i did not have. I have naturally curly hair and given a healthy cut, decent products my hair looks exactly like it did when I left the salon. I did not have to spend $130. to achieve my curls looking good.And this time, my hair felt heavy and full of too many products Next day it felt worse! She also put me under a dryer (for too long burning my scalp, there were metal clips tight on my scalp, and feeling very uncomfortable) while she was no where to be found.I ended up getting out of the dryer on my own Tipping- i grew up in a salon family & owners were Not tipped. Non owners, pay a % of their fees to the owner so naturally you tip them should you wish. But i did feel pressure (again) at the register and I succumbed to adding a $10 tip. I felt that getting my hair cut by Jay under financial constraints was more than enough. She charged $60, (my hair was shoulder length) though she never mentioned the $5 discount given to first time clients. I will not return to this salon. Jen was absolutely the best part of my experience - very friendly and helpful. However, the salon owner, Jay, was so rude to me that I would not consider returning. I scheduled appointments for my husband (fiance at the time) and myself to get pedicures/manicures the day before our wedding. Jay scheduled us an hour before the nail technician ever even comes in - so we started out by just waiting for over an hour. The day before our wedding....I had places to be. While we were there, she found out we were getting married and starting making remarks regarding how I should really do something with my hair before our wedding (!). I had gotten it cut previously at the other Aveda salon in Asheville, Pi Salon Spa, so I had been seeing a professional and cared how I appeared, not to even mention the added pressure of the wedding. I had also previously called to cancel an appointment with them, spoke with Jay on the phone, she said she took care of it. When we showed up for our nail appointment the girl thought we had just not shown up, as Jay hadn't actually taken care of it. Again, if you deal with Jen I think you should be fine. But honestly, going to this place did absolutely nothing for my self-esteem and caused a lot of agitation, rather than relaxation. She was really hurtful. After my hairstylist that I had been seeing for years left town, I put off getting a haircut as long as possible. My friend had been coming here for awhile and convinced me to come with her. I was very nervous as I've had some bad haircuts in the past! However, I was lucky enough to have Adam as my stylist yesterday. I don't think I've ever been happier with a salon experience! I have curly and sometimes hard to manage hair, but Adam cut it perfectly. It hasn't air-dried this well...ever! He also did an ombre with pink on the bottom of my hair, and it turned out better than I could have hoped for! He listened to exactly what I wanted and gave his professional opinions about how to make it work best for me. I ended up keeping him late as I wasn't aware how long the process would take and should have made an earlier appointment, but he was more than accommodating and pleasant about that. After purchasing a Groupon for a shampoo, cut & style, I made an appointment. My hair is short. I took pictures of what i wanted. Brooks began cutting my hair dry with texturizing shears. I told her that has never worked well on my hair. She ignored me and kept cutting. Finally, I got a shampoo, no conditioner, which is customary at most high-end salons, I was very clear in communicating my expectations, but regardless of what I said, she did what SHE wanted to do while telling me she WAS doing what I asked. Worst haircut of my life! I had my hair cut and colored at this salon in September 2014 and one year later and I am still trying to grow out the horrific bangs I was given. I provided a photo of Emma Stone and walked out looking like a second grader who cut her own bangs. I was visibly upset with the results. The most awful experience I've ever had at a Salon. The owner Janice colored and styled my hair. She was extremely condescending, unprofessional and nasty. Plus the color on my hair came out 2 shades darker than I had wanted... she had to redo it...and she was annoyed that I didn't like it. My hair is still recovering...and so am I. Very expensive.
