The best stylist in the downriver area is without a doubt Hannah Armstrong!!! Her home salon is salon DV8, she also does business outside of the salon which includes a number of different things!! Her specialty is weddings, she has done two of my family members weddings. None the less the brides and bridesmaids were stunned at her work. I've had multiple bad experiences at this salon. From disrespectful and unprofessional attitudes, to bad haircuts, to adding additional charges on my bill for added products (without discussing first), to me ultimately finding another salon that I have found to be much more professional. I had been getting my hair dyed/cut for years and never had to complain until I came across this company. Now... Most recently my daughter came in to DV8 for a color (root) touch up and it came out awful, with a red/auburn tinge color. She has NEVER gone auburn, her hair is medium brown. Totally NOT the color she wanted or expected. She previously had a Balayage coloring done and this didn't match the existing balayage AT ALL. Totally screwed up the Balayage affect. She left the salon with her hair still wet so didn't notice right away, but the next morning, getting ready for work, she noticed the Red right away. She called the salon back to redo that very day. She left MULTIPLE messages at the salon begging her hairdresser SARAH to call her back, with NO return calls for nearly 2 wks, until She finally went up there in person herself, TWICE! Upon her second attempt in person, the best they could come up with was another 2 wk appointment and an additional $75 charge. WHAT??? She already paid big money for THEIR mistake in the first place! She talked to the hairdresser and the owner. They left her NO choice but to make another appointment, needing leave work early (losing more money) and pay additional $75 charges to correct THEIR mistake. She came to me crying. She has since cancelled her appt and is going elsewhere. HER FAMILY will pay for a redo someplace else. Thank's AGAIN for nothing DV8! Please don't respond back by saying you've been in business a bazillion years and have excellent staff and reviews. NO ONE and NO BUSINESS is perfect, as you claim it is and with all due respect your ability to take care of your customers in light of errors are less than professional. She could NOT get a call back and after 2 wks had to make a personal trip up there, only to be treated this way. keep this in mind ppl!!! BEWARE CUSTOMERS, they DO NOT take care of their mistakes in a reasonable fashion. Grrrr.... read more

Hairdresser was obviously suffering personal problems the day of my services. Took a phone call towards the end of my processing. Overprocessed my hair, as she combed through it my hair turned to mush. The result was dry straw hair when dry and when wet it was gummy and stringy. I ended up suffering bad scalp reactions that I've been seeing a dermatologist for since December at the time of my services as well as my hair falling out and thinning. I also had to cut off 5 inches of my hair. While the hair I have left has been greatly restored, not perfect but better, I still have a sore, itchy scalp with a rash. I've spent hundreds of dollars fixing the mess on my head between hair care products and dermatologist visits. This was a $200 process at the salon and I'm disgusted that I've went through so much trauma because of it and it has basically ruined my life for the last two months. Losing sleep, being in pain, watching my hair fall out. I am just now starting to see a glimmer of hope as the scalp reaction starts to fade and new growth on my head appears. Needless to say I will never return to this Salon nor recommend it. I can't believe I spent $200 for an experience like this. read more

I'm originally from Ann Arbor and went to a stylist I trusted with my life. Not only was she down to earth and even hung out with me after hours, she did a kick ass job on my hair. I've since moved to NYC and trying to find someone out there was crazy....especially with prices. I finally found someone, but anytime I came back to Michigan I'd go to my homegirl. Well, I'm back in Michigan and was in dire need of a fix. I called up SalonDv8 because they were close, and since I'm not in the A2 area I decided to check this place out. I feared the worst, because you never know what you're going to get when you get someone new chopping your hair. My stylist Laura listened very closely to what I wanted. She even conversed with me (which my stylist in NYC didn't). It's all about making the client feel comfortable and Laura did just that. My hair now feels like brand new. It's so refreshing chopping out the old and feeling new again. I went back again today for an eye brown waxing with Sarah. Laura saw me at the reception desk and even remembered my name. That's awesome. The eyebrow waxing was perfect too. One of my eyebrows grows thicker than the other, so I often go to get them evened out. The receptionist was even on her toes. She even recommended an awesome shampoo. (I declined when Laura asked me if I was interested in any products, but she at least asked if I was all set on products). I highly recommend this place for anyone in need of a new fix. I'm only giving 4 stars because the waiting area needs to be revamped. Newer chairs or more comfortable chairs would make this place 5 stars. read more

WOW. I don't even know where to start with this place. I made an appointment with Kevin based on another google review and I am SO GLAD that I did. I have been to many salons and seen many stylists and not once have I had someone sit down with me before starting anything and discuss my expectations for that appointment. I made the appointment for a perm (I have had a perm twice before and loved it) I was looking for curly and especially voluminous hair. Kevin sat down with me and was so completely honest about the current condition of my hair, what a perm could do to it as far as damage in its current state, and if my goals were realistic for the length and cut that I wanted. After sharing this information with me I decided against the perm at this time but he told me he would offer techniques for how to get the volume I was looking for. He explained everything so thoroughly to me and I don't mean just styling techniques. He gave my the run through on everything. Products selections, product use and why certain products work for heat protection, moisture treatments vs. protein treatments, how and why he was cutting my hair the way he did (which by the way I've never had anyone at another salon cut my hair the same way and it turned out great!) I would also like to point out that I have walked into other salons with my hair in much worse shape than it was for this appointment and had stylists perm or bleach my hair even though it was not in good condition without any warning of the breakage I would likely experience after. Kevin could have charged me a lot more money had he gone through with the perm but he was completely honest even if it meant less money and I think that right there says something really great about him. Everyone who walked out of the salon the day I was there looked great, even the ones that didn't see Kevin. The hours here are wonderful for people who work during the day, they're open until 9pm most nights, the girls at the front desk and that washed and applied treatment to my hair were friendly, and made sure I was comfortable, prices were great, this is just an all around great salon. GO SEE KEVIN. You won't regret it. read more

I don't really get haircuts, only because I don't trust stylists. They usually never give me what I asked for or cut way too much! At Salon DV8, it was a total different experience! Everyone was super awesome and had wicked haircuts so I knew I was in the right hands! I walked out super ecstatic. My stylist Sarah did an AMAZING job!!! My third time there,and this time I wanted a change. The first two times were fine (not great), but I liked how Kevin showed me to style my hair without using a flat iron so I stuck with it. This time I asked for an angled bob, tone down the blonde for the fall, but leave it a little lighter around my face. None of that happened. The face frame is just as dark as the rest of the hair and the style is an old lady hair helmet, not at all an edgy angled bob. Waste of my money read more

While visiting from California, I decided to get may hair colored at Salon DV8 and I am so glad I did. Ann did a great job and exceeded any coloring I have had done back home.
