I wasn't even planning on getting a haircut today, but I've had good luck with a certain group of guys over the years who used to work for a famous DC hairdresser who came from Turkey. When I saw the name Istanbul Salon I wondered if this place might be part of that tradition, and it is. He demonstrated all the things the DC-famous salon was known for back in the day: listening to my needs, a precision cut, and super-fast work. I was in and out in 30 minutes. Worst haircut ever...I had been growing my hair out for years wanted a quick trim and nothing drastic my hair lady moved a little further away and I wasn't able to get to her so I decided to try this out. The style did NOT listen--kind of did what he wanted. I asked for my hair to be straightened at the end (how I style it). He air brushed it--spoiler it was uneven when I ran my fingers through it when I asked about he said it looks good. The vibe is so odd in there too--not like other salons in the area. I paid 100.00+ for someone to mess up my hair ...the guy is nice but I'd say go somewhere else if you don't want to have your hair messed up. I ended up have to go back to my usual stylist and had to cut off 6 inches to make it even. This was one expensive hair saga. Be warned. read more

I originally went to Salon Istanbul because I have an apartment in the building, Randolph Towers. But I would frequent the salon regardless. The quality of hair care is very good. This review is for the haircut. Honestly, the only reason I came here was because I was looking for a reasonably priced haircut on short notice and my normal spot was closed. The recent reviews seemed okay, and I just needed to clean up my split ends. So, I called ahead for an appointment this afternoon. Pro: 1)it was fairly easy to make an appointment; service was fast, so there was no waiting around 2) I asked for 2 inches off, and Antonio followed that. I appreciate this, as sometimes hairstylists can get carried away. Con: 1) Poor hair wash: left my hair with major dandruff, which is not normal for me at all 2) Rough handling: During the wash, my hair was being tugged and pulled. Throughout my shampoo and cut, there were times I was cringing because Antonio was being really rough. Either he didn't notice or didn't care. I should have spoken up, but I am not familiar with this salon and didn't want to upset him before he took a pair of scissors to my hair. 3) Awful quality cut: I'm not really fussy with my hair. I'll ask for what I want, but other than that I don't get too bothered. However, this haircut was honestly one of the worst. The cuts were jagged and not consistent. The front of my hair normally frames my face well, but he just chopped and either didn't bother blending it with the rest of my hair or just did a poor job of it (maybe I'm not explaining correctly, but the picture attached shows it perfectly). This doesn't surprise me, as he really didn't take his time- from wash to finished cut it was maybe 20 minutes. I appreciate efficiency, but not when it comes at the expense of quality. The price of the haircut was $50 (which I understand is on the inexpensive side), but I'm not happy with the experience or the cut. I don't think it was worth it, and next time I'll wait a couple days to go to my normal spot, where the stylists are careful and diligent with their client's hair. read more

Came in yesterday for a specific cut was very anxious about it because I usually only get trims and don't really do anything different. Mike has worked on my hair before made me feel very comfortable so I picked him for this. He was very gentle and careful and showed me everything before he starts chopping off my hair! Even gave me his professional opinion on my hair cut if I were to have bangs. I told him I don't like too much layers and he did exactly what I asked.
