There are a couple reasons I am not giving this a 5/5. I wanted a cut and color, and because it was my first time getting color in my hair (from black to brown) I was a little nervous (but mostly excited for a change) and messaged the business through Yelp. 1. I was only told the price of the cut & color, but when I showed up, the hairdresser told me that because we're going from a dark color to a lighter color, I would also be charged for the lightener that had to be put in my hair before the color. Since it was my first time getting my hair colored, I wish I had been told the entire price in the messages before showing up to the salon (especially since I had sent a picture of my hair and pictures of celebrities who had the type of color I wanted). 2. When I told the hairdresser the length I wanted (armpit length), she cut it shorter (just below the collarbone). I wish the communication about pricing was better from the beginning, but overall I am happy with the service and the product! Even though the length of the cut was shorter than I originally wanted, it looks quite flattering on me. The color turned out great--just like the pictures I showed the hairdresser! She brought out sample colors for me to choose the colors I thought looked best, made me feel like I was fully a part of the process, and was really easy going/made effortless conversation with me. Overall, my experience was pleasant and relaxing which calmed the nerves that I had about getting color in my hair. Even with the pricing miscommunication, I'm going to recommend this place to anyone I know who needs a hair cut and color! read more

Both my mom and I go to Salon Ivy and we see Brian the owner. He's phenomenal and managed to get box dye red that I've had in my hair for 6 years now, out in one session. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my hair, so I let him take the reigns and it looks amazing. In our second session he did balayage to break up the brown, he managed to lighten through the red without turning my hair pink. Brian is so sweet and really cares about his clients and the reputation of his business. Hello all just wanted to say that Salon Ivy is an amazing place to go and get your hair done and the prices are very reasonable! I enjoyed my experience so much and would recommend anyone to go there! Melissa did my hair and did a fabulous job! She was very helpful and knowledgeable with everything from the start to finish and I couldn't love my hair anymore! I do not think I ever had such a great experience in my life time! I can say it is one of my favorite color attempts by far! She is funny and so nice I can't wait to go again just to have a great conversation. In general everyone who works there are super nice and accommodating they really make you feel comfortable! So my story on how I found this spot is when I decided to go from blonde to super dark with ombre of a purple red it did not matter if it was purple or red just as long as it was close to them both. I called a few places and most of them had no idea how to do ombre coloring and the others were booked and I really was impatient to get it done that day! So I called another spot and they refused to do my hair coloring as I kept searching I finally found Salon Ivy, it was close by and I was pretty much giving up hope to get my hair colored. So it was brought to my attention that despite coming here every two weeks for a year now, I have failed to write a review!! I have been nothing but exceptionally pleased with my haircuts since I started. As I said before- every two weeks (thank you Army) is how often I get a haircut. Joanna is the BEST. She has helped me get my hair cut stylishly but also in regs which is a necessity. She's good, quick, never late and is hysterical to boot! The shop itself is always clean and bustling with activity. People genuinely seem to have a good time. Get here early? Have some coffee or tea while you wait. The ONE thing I have an issue with is parking. It's a very busy area so it can be a challenge to find a spot. Other than that, I love it! Bonus: my wife will get her hair cut here and she's VERY picky when it comes to getting her hair cut. Super friendly and accommodating, and the color I wound up with was better than what I'd originally asked for. She knows her stuff. I've been getting my hair done here for the last year. I really like the staff and Brian is awesome. He has a fantastic crew! They're knowledgable and if you have a "bad hair day" they are right there to make sure you are taken care of. My first trip was getting my hair did for a holiday party. Ive lived in Anchorage AK for almost 4 years now, and the first year and a half I bounced around from salon to salon in hopes of finding someone with great talent. Finally through Groupon, believe it or not, I purchased a cut and color coupon for Salon Ivy. When I arrived I was tickled with how cute the setup was. I was then introduced to my stylist, Racheal Teagarden. She is young, fun, warm hearted and she does one hell of a cut and color. I'm one who isn't afraid of color and likes my hair to have a little edge to it. Not only has she done the cut and color, but she has also put in extensions. My girlfriend had a terrible experience with her extensions last night, and I messaged Salon Ivy asking if they do extensions and if she could possibly get in to get it corrected. The owner Brian responded within minutes (on a Sunday nonetheless) and gave me his personal number to set something up for tomorrow. Just his willingness to help has made my girlfriend feel much better after spending all night crying about her hair. I'm sure their actual service will be just as good as their customer service. #1 SALON IN ALASKA. I am 26 years old with long healthy hair until Brenna at Accent of Style ruined my hair. After two long visits trying to correct my orange damaged hair I was in tears. I was was so discouraged that I didn't know what to do. I was afraid if I went anywhere else, it would only get worse or that my hair would fall out. Several friends recommended Brian at Salon Ivy. I showed up at Salon Ivy without an appointment and requested to see the lead stylist Brian. Even though he was with another client at the time, he still took the time to sit me down in a chair and look at my hair and see what could be done. He came in on Sunday for (4) hours and worked to repair, condition and color my hair. Going through and pulling out each individual orange highlight and recoloring and treating it. BRIAN IS AMAZING A COLORING and genuinely cares about his clients and how they feel about their hair. I found out he is also a color instructor, teaching most of the top stylists in anchorage. He and his entire team take pride in what they do and have the highest standards I have ever seen in a salon. I will not go anywhere else. Love the new location! I have super curly ultra thick hair and have a hard time finding someone to cut it. I usually go in cycles where I chop it all off and then let it grow out every 2 years or so. This is the longest my hair has been in a while. I took a photo with me that I found on Pinterest. A compromise between short (that I love) and long (that my husband loves). Lydia, who I've affectionately dubbed the Curl Whisperer, did it again! She dry cut my hair (which is needed with curly hair as my hair shrinks a good 3-4" when it dries) and I felt like she was cutting almost every curl individually. Getting curly hair cut takes a huge amount of trust in your stylist and their vision/expertise because finger combing your hair to get to each section and cut each curl will leave your hair (at least mine a frizzy Afro mess). But when she was finished, she shampooed/conditioned my hair and made my curls beautiful again and I was able to see the gorgeous cut she accomplished and how each curl/layer fell exactly where they should.
