Today was the first time I ever stepped into Salon jo-el because mine of 8 years sadly closed. Luckily Theresa, who does my lash extensions and is amazing, is now working at salon jo-el. The salon is very impressive, modern vibe, and very clean! Lash extensions take awhile but the room is very comfortable and relaxing. I can't forget to mention my lashes look amazing and very natural, I always get compliments after Theresa does my lashes. The location is in a great neighborhood, I'm a little biased because it's the area I live in. I'm happy to have found a replacement salon so nice. read more

I had to go back to get my hair fixed here, because the girl who cut my hair gave me a lopsided haircut. My hair was literally 2 to 3 inches longer on one side (and this was not intended to be an asymmetrical haircut). Bizarrely enough, she was completely incapable of seeing this fact and despite the fact that I was showing her the side that was longer she kept cutting the opposite side and making the hair even more lopsided. Maybe she was dyslexic and was flipping the sides around in her mind. Anyway, I finally gave up and decided I did not want her to screw up what was left of my hair anymore so I said I was happy and left. I have never had a haircut that has been so obviously lopsided. I purchased a Living Social deal back in September and have been trying ever since to redeem. I had to leave when I did actually book an appointment because the stylist was over 30 minutes late into my appointment (I waited a total of 45 minutes) and wasn't acknowledged, except by the receptionist on the way out. I emailed the salon manager asking for assistance and never heard back. I guess I am out $59.00. Too bad because the reviews for this salon seem pretty great overall. :( read more

I went to this salon a little under two months ago because one of their stylists came into my work offering a 20% off coupon for first time clients. I currently have light red hair and wanted to do a full head of highlights to start my process back to blonde with a trim. The stylist was awesome! He was very friendly and did a great job, I was on a time crunch and let him know that it was okay for him to not blow dry my hair after rinsing, but he managed to almost completely blow dry and give me a little bit of a trim after my highlights in under 4 hours. I was very pleased with the outcome of my hair. When he had finished and I walked over to cash out with the receptionist, I presented my 20% off coupon. Immediately upon seeing that I had a coupon, the owner hurried over to the receptionist counter and dictated to the receptionist what to charge me for. I didn't catch what he had listed, but in total, including a tip for the amazing stylist, it came to around a little less than 200. I understand that it's a nice salon, and like I've stated before, I was so pleased with my hair, but the way the owner had rushed up only once he'd seen my coupon to dictate what to charge me, just didn't sit well with me. I walked out feeling jipped. I understand you run a business and you need to make money, but I will not be returning because I wouldn't be able to afford coming in on the way the owner purposely up charged me. What really sucks is I really did like the stylist and his work, and he lost out on a client because of the owner. Update: After calling and speaking with me while trying to amend the situation and notifying me that I had actually not spent as much as I originally thought, and after a week later, texting me to ask me to change my Yelp review to match the price they have in their records, I did. He explained to me I was charged 140. 140 + good tip = around $200. He then also explained to me multiple times that his stylist was new and he was only helping his stylist out with prices, so he said I must have misread the conversation wrong and his intentions were not to do that. After I asked him if his receptionist knew the prices he also said she was pretty new. Thank you for apologizing and offering to let me come in for a free service to try to fix the situation, but like I said before, people will not remember what you did, they will remember how they felt. I remember feeling jipped and that the owner called and texted me asking me to change my Yelp review and that when I spoke with him he seemed to blame the situation on everyone but himself. read more

I would have loved to rate this hair salon higher, but in the midst of my search for a quality salon in Phoenix, this does not rate on my list of favorites. The guy who cut and highlighted my hair was very friendly, however, my highlights looked disastrous. I asked for a natural look and I got areas that were bleached out, orange, light brown, and some blonde. I would not return there, even to get my hair fixed, in fact, I went somewhere else to get my color corrected, which I wish would not have had to happen because now my hair is damaged. Overall, I would rate the salon higher if my color service were better, but the place was clean and the staff were friendly enough. read more

He really takes the time to figure out what you're looking for and then magically crafts your hair to the best result possible. I have been going to another stylist since we moved to AZ (almost 4 years ago), but recently she has started teaching at a beauty school full time and only sees clients every other Sunday. With my schedule being tight and this salon being about 20 min away, I was on the search for another stylist who has more hours during the week and was near my home. I happened to find this LS deal and upon reading Yelp reviews, decided to give it a try. SOO glad I did! First off, the salon itself has a very cool, modern, swanky vibe- without being uptight and pretentious. You get a perfect mix of the higher end feel without the snotty service. I saw another reviewer stated something about the music being offensive... I guess that is up to personal preference because I really enjoyed the music. So much in fact that I Shazamed a bunch of songs while I was waiting to download for myself later. I observed the interaction between all the stylists and clients and it was very warm and professional. Onto my service. I also worked with Kittim. He is amazing! I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he took the time to discuss what my expectations were regarding color, maintenance and the overall feel I wanted. I agree with the other reviewer who also worked with Kittim. You definitely get a strong sense of concern when working with him. A great listener and a master of his craft. The end result was beautiful! Highlights were exactly what I wanted- natural and subtle, but gave my hair dimension. Cut was executed exactly as planned. and the final styling was polished and impeccable. My only regret is that I went directly home after my appt instead of going out someplace fun to show off my new do! read more

Teresa is amazing! She went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied. I came into the salon with some major color correction needing to be done and she worked her magic on EVERY strand. I have been getting my haircut at Salon Jo-El since 2001. I come from a family of stylists and I can honestly say that this salon has the highest quality stylists. I have seen 3 different stylists there over the years, and they were consistently trained. All T & G trained stylists, both male and female. The decor is clean, upscale and modern. They have Grant Wiggins' artwork up right now. Very cool. Now Rachel cuts my hair. She takes time to make sure I have both a professional look and some style for the weekend. I first found Salon Jo-El from a Living Social deal about 4 years ago and I couldn't be happier with this gem of a salon! My hair has never been better and I have full trust in all of the stylists that the owner hires. Wonderful local business that deserves great support! From the minute I walk in I am greeted warmly and offered refreshments. Color is a great speciality of Joel's and my horrible at-home dye job was fixed perfectly and right away with no drama or fuss. Kelley Fisher is incredible! I have been getting my hair styled by her since 2016. I am not particularly edgy, but through the years I have been emboldened to try many hair styles and I've loved all of them: color (including blonde), balayage, ombre, Brazilian blow out, short hair. Most recently, I have loved the Brazilian because it keeps my hair smooth, shiny, and frizz free. I am black with curly hair, and I was initially a bit skeptical to be honest, however, Kelley is amazing with my hair!!!!! Check out her Instagram for pics @kelley.hair. She is an incredibly talented stylist, who always stays in the latest trends and continues on hair education (which is not an industry standard). She is going to London next month for training! Loved my haircut/color!!! Michael was great! I had a deal through 'buy with me' and I called to make and appointment. They were excited I found the deal! No scoffing at my coupon. I wanted something that fit my face and my lifestyle. I want 5 minute hair to look professional. lol. I thought my color was hopeless and he gave it real dimension. It is gorgeous in the sun. He put so much work into my foils/color I thought I could pick up local radio stations. He was also very fast! The cut was done both wet and dry. It makes such a difference in the way it lays! No soccer mom layers that flip for me. Trendy without being wierd. He also took the time to explain tools and products. Huge help! The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because it isn't super easy to find. Thats more google maps fault than anything. My first ombré experience was the best w Rachel. I have dark brown, pin straight Asian hair. Not only has Rachel done my hair so beautifully, I am currently in the process of going completely blonde. I've been looking for a stylist since I moved from CA EIGHT years ago! Finally found one with Jon-Michael. He gave me an awesome haircut, completely appropriate for my age and face, and it's something I can style myself and get near same results. That's a 5 star stylist in my book. The highlights he put in look natural. People kept commenting "did you do something with your hair? It looks great!" I NEVER got that before. Moved to the Arcadia neighborhood a year ago and just couldn't do the trek to my favorite senior stylist at Rolf's in the East Valley anymore. I'm finicky about my cuts and find it crucial to have an expert when it comes to perfectly blending the highs and lows in my very fine blonde tendrils. I have to say, Ginger knocked my socks off today. The girl knows her stuff and the owner, Joel runs a great salon. The experience from start to finish was top shelf the whole way and worth the price. I had my hair done by the salon owner, Joel. He was amazing. He really took into account my hair type and face shape before suggesting a cut for me. I am glad that I followed his advice because I have gotten nothing but compliments on my hair. I was embarrassed because I need to lose some weight and told him that I know a haircut cannot substitute the need to lose 40 lbs, but he was super cool and said, "I can come pretty darn close". Let me tell you, my face looks so much thinner! I also enjoyed chatting with him as he did my hair. Usually I take a book so I don't have to talk to the stylists because I have had so many bad experiences listening to stylists' personal drama (they should pay ME for free counseling!), but he wasn't like that at all. He also cut my hair wet, and then did a final touch up while my hair was dry, which I love. He also spent a lot of time showing me how to style my hair. Although I think I do a pretty decent job, he showed me some great tips and secrets (like using dry shampoo for volume). I used a BuyWithMe voucher, and they treated me like a first class client, even giving me some extra stuff for free (they were out of a product and he gave me the one from his station). Additionally, he substituted a couple services because he didn't recommend the Brazilian Blow-Out for my hair type. The services he gave me were even more costly than the voucher, so that was extremely generous on his part. I completely appreciated his honesty and generosity. When Joel did my color he took his time and made sure that the color looked exactly perfect. He also didn't try to work with a bunch of other clients while my hair processed (how many times have you been somewhere where you think the stylist forgot about you because they booked 3 other clients in the meantime?). Finally, my favorite part was that they don't push you to buy their hair product. They sell Tigi products, and while I LOVE that product line, I was so sick of Toni & Guy always pushing product on me when I checked out. This salon gives great edgy stylish cuts while taking into account your hair type and lifestyle. I don't look like a 20-year-old hair model, but I also don't look like a 40-year-old soccer mom. I was scared to try a new hair salon that hadn't been recomended by someone I knew, but I am glad I took the chance. I am so happy with my hair and I plan to be a loyal customer of Joel's. I don't know why the other reviewer gave them a negative rating, but that was a few years ago, so I wouldn't trust that review anyway. Go see Joel, you won't be disappointed. He did an amazing job on her hair. The long layered cut is perfect for her hair type, and the Brazilian Blow-Out looks amazing. I was referred to Joel Porter from a friend who has more style and attitude in the end of her pinkie finger than most people amass in their lifetime....so when she said that "Joel is THE man", I listened. As Green Me Up stated, Joel always creates a beyond trendy haircut just for you--your style, taste and age appropriate. I agree, I don't wanna look like a soccer mom, nor do I want to look like I am middle aged trying to be 16 (or even 21), but I still wanna be hot! Joel is a master at cut and color, and after a quick consultation (the first one lasted about 20-30 minutes) about what I am loving--and hating about my hair, he gets to work. I usually give him free reign and let him work is magic, and it is always a hit. This last time however, I was ready to go red again for fall, and it fell a bit flat. He tried a brand new color, and I thought it was a bit ashy (I thought I had broken his heart). He asked me to wear it for a week or so, and if an adjustment needed to be made, he would take care of it. Wellll, here I am 4 weeks into it and just can't go until my next appointment (I still don't like it although I received a bunch of compliments). I went to Joel today, we discussed the color, and he went to work. I was hoping that he would give me a discount, but when I was told there was NO CHARGE, I was amazed. Joel, you do great work, thank you for always making me look and feel FAB! You have deserved praise before, I am sorry it has taken me so long to get to it!
