I don't usually write reviews. But after my recent very negative first-time experience at Salon K, I realize the importance of giving head's up of problems. I wish I had had benefit of that before I made my Salon K appointment! Following my long-time colorist's move out-of-state and having difficulty finding other salons that carry my Joico color (it is not a widely-carried product), I was pleased to find it in my Google search at Salon K. I called and made an appt. with Kaye. When I arrived, she was there allone. I had everything written down for her; a simple, long-established single-process formula and timing. But she had barely looked at it when she launched what became a nearly non-stop, 2 hour and 45 minute soliloquy of every miinutiae of her life. I was quite taken aback but I didn't know how to politely move things along. I reminded her that I had an 8:00 pm train back to NY, but it didn't seem to phase her. She finally went to mix my color after about 1/2 an hour of a quite aggressive monologue. Unfortunately, she jumped right back into her monologue when she returned, with the added problem that she had product in my hair while she was going on and on, and clearly she was not at all concerned how long she was letting the product sit in my hair while she was talking and talking. I could tell it was taking an excessive amount of time and I was getting concerned. But i didn't realize how long she had let the product sit in my hair until I saw all the damage the next day. My hair was excessively over-processed. I use a mild demi-permanent product that doesn't dry and I have normal hair. But it was so over-processed that it was dry as sandpaper and had widespread breakage. It has been falling out by the handfuls for a week now. I checked my check-out time on my visa receipt and the time was 6:42. I had arrived at 4:00. I didn't get a blow-dry; I just did a quick towel wrap and then put my wet hair under my hat. So allowing for the half an hour that she was talking before she mixed my color and the 43 minutes of processing time, she took AN HOUR AND A HALF applying the product, for what should have only taken 20-39 minutes, tops, letting the product sit in my hair for huge intervals while she was engaged in her talking. Now my hair is completely ruined. I think most everyone has had a bad hair salon experience here and there, but this completely stands apart. Clearly it was much more important to Kaye to have a captive audience at her mercy with product sitting on my hair, pretending that we were besties, rather than having any thoughts about delivering the service that she was being paid for (and she charged me too dollar, to boot) and now my hair is ruined, as a result. To me, that goes beyond unprofessionalism and incompetence. To me, that's just unbelievable. I definitely do not recommend Kaye at Salon K, at least without bringing an arsenal of timer alarms and someone to stand watch! read more

Well I walked in with long hair and wanted to keep it long but instead walked out with an unwanted, just longer than shoulder length hair. I haven't cried from a haircut since middle school but I cried tonight. My hair hasn't been this short in 4 years and all I wanted was my long hair trimmed at the ends for Christmas. I will not be getting in family photos this year, have already told everyone not to ask or try. That's how horrible this haircut was. I am livid and the worst part is there is nothing I can do but wait and wait and wait for my hair to grow back. Hopefully I'll be okay by March but this mistake will take months for it to get back to normal, maybe even a year. I am devastated. My hair was one of the only things I felt good about myself recently and that's been taken away from me. Do not go here. It's not worth the seemingly reasonable price. read more

I think that after visiting this Salon for nearly two years, on a monthly basis, I feel I should definitely write a review. I first visited this salon on New Years Eve 2011, when I was in desperate need of a haircut, and Brent happily took on the task. I have been back to this salon every month, until I moved just two months ago. Brent has been my stylist each and every time. He is friendly, he listens to you, he makes great conversation, he keeps you informed of his schedule and if your appointment time needs to change, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, he knows what he is doing. I have been getting my hair cut and color-blended every month, and I was alwasy very satisfied with the results. Brent is the best. I've gone to Brent now for over 5 years and completely trust in him. He's a professional and clearly loves what he is doing. I rarely had to wait over 5 minutes to be seated. However, if he was ever running late he would text or call in advance. He's patient, attentive and regularly asks for feedback. Tiffany is the most unprofessional stylist! She messed up the root color and refused to take ownership for her mistake. She even began to argue and belittle until Kay told her to calm down. Really, this is how Salon K allows stylists to treat customers. Kay then had to redo the color and had the gull to charge $100 to fix Tiffany's mistake since she darkened the hair. Now the hair is course, brittle, straw like and falling out because it was colored twice. So much for the $200 Keratin tx received two weeks prior. Never ever step foot in this salon! read more

I don't go to salons often, I get a lot of anxiety in most salon atmospheres. My curly dark mop always feels out of place amongst the sleek styles of beautifully manicured people. But I decided to treat myself with covid ending and went to see Bill. It was one of the most rewarding risks I've taken in years. I was very nervous but Bill was so gentle and took his time to fix me up. Soon I was at ease and chatting with others in the salon. He answered all my questions, explained the texture of my hair and what different styles would look like with my natural curls. When I left the appointment I was a little unsure of myself but as I catch my reflection in mirrors and shop windows I can see my beloved curls bouncing and my confidence growing. Bill did an incredible job and I've never felt more secure in my femininity than I do today. For the last year, my coworker, Andrew, kept pushing me to make an appointment with Tiffany at Salon K. I kept saying I would get around to it but never did. Slowly but surely, more and more people from my office took his advice and began getting their hair cut by her. They looked great. Meanwhile, I kept showing up to work with my crappy buzzed and nicked hair that I cut myself. I knew I had to make an appointment with Tiffany and I finally did a few months ago. I'm so glad I finally did. Tiffany gave me the best haircut I had in years and, when I returned to get my hair cut again, she knew exactly what to do and got right to work. I hate dealing with hair (which is why I often buzz it) but Tiffany does such a great job and at such a reasonable price -- while providing some very entertaining commentary -- that I'm actually excited to get my hair cut now. read more

Go here if you have loads of spare time to waste. Don't get me wrong, they do give you a decent haircut at the end of the day. If you care, here are the details. 1st time. I booked an appointment of 7:00 pm with Tiffany and arrived on time. She is tending to a client and tells me it will be only 15-20 mins. Okay works fine. 35 minutes later her chair empties and I sit down for a haircut. I probably get the longest haircut in my life going well over 45 mins. But I get a good haircut, so I decide to return the second time. 2nd time. Same again, booked a 6:30 pm appointment, only to get seated at 7:15 pm. Alright maybe first appointments of the day work better. 3rd time. I booked the first appointment at 10:30 am on Saturday. Get there on time only to be told Tiffany is running 20 mins late in getting to salon. Alright grab a coffee and go back waiting. 45 mins later there is no sign of Tiffany, at which point I walk out as I have friends coming over later. No apologies or anything from anybody. 4th time. I thought I'll give it one more try. Booked an appointment for 7:00 pm and when I get there on time, she is busy with haircut of another guy. I am told it would be only 15-20 mins. Okay, I leave and come back after 20 mins. 45 mins later I am still waiting while she is still shaving the same guy's head over and over with a trimmer. At which point my patience runs out and I am out of the store. So if you have loads of time to spare and are up for continuous chatting, which is where the stylists spend 50% of their time, this is the place for you. read more

While Salon K has only been open for about 2 years now, I have been getting my hair cut by Harris, and on occassion, by Kay for about 16 years. Harris is the 1st person to cut my hair for more than a few months. (He is very proud of that fact, and tells Customers that I once told him that.) The Salon is comfortable the staff is like family, and I have come to know many of the other clients too. You owe it to yourself to go there. read more

Tiffany is very rude and unprofessional. She damaged my hair so badly, my hair was breaking off and falling out in the sink. They always say to look at a hair stylists own hair and if it's not beautiful, go somewhere else! Should have taken that advice and left right away. Don't go to this salon, don't go to Tiffany... unless you are looking for your hair to break off and fall out in the sink. read more

Salon K is the only place I go to get my hair cut. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and the salon has a very comfortable and friendly atmosphere. I travel over an hour just to have Bill cut my hair. I've always been self conscious about myself, especially my hair, and nobody seems to compare. I sadly had a bad experience here that is making me really upset. I used to go to Kay when she was at Rocker Head and followed her over to her new salon. When I used to go to her before, if the salon was empty, I felt like I got the hair cut (or color) I wanted. When the salon was packed, she spent more time talking to the other stylists/customers/passers-by and less paying attention to what she was doing with my hair. Several times I had to return to get my hair "fixed". This last time, I thought I would save money and get my highlights re-done with her as opposed to another salon that I loved but charged $175. Since Kay never charged me more than $100 for color (also reflected in the pricing on her web site), I decided to return to her once again. The color was NOT what I wanted. It did not look or feel anything like what I thought I had described. The appointment started at 2pm and I had 5pm plans with a friend. I was not done until 6:15pm!!! because Kay kept talking to the other people in the salon and taking other customers in-between checking my foils...and I think I sat there a lot longer than usual. Now a friendly atmosphere is nice, and chatting it up at the salon can be part of the charm, but for that hour (or four!) - I want to feel like I am the one who matters most to my stylist...or at least I want my hair to matter most. When I called the next day to let her know how I was really unhappy, she said to come back and she would fix it. She said it would take no more than 30 minutes. So with an 11am appointment (and 12 noon lunch plans) I went in...and came out an hour and 20 minutes later...with and EVEN WORSE irreversible situation on my hands...or should I say head. The bright blonde I wanted in JUST THE FRONT as I had asked for- was now zebra patterned all throughout my head...my hair looked fake and I felt ready for an audition for the Jersey Shore...or ready to at least fit in AT the Jersey Shore... I am back in L.A. and have to spend more money to get it fixed. It also keeps breaking off and I now have to purchase hair repair products and spend even more time and even more money on this...and here I was trying to SAVE money. Every time I see my reflection or a photo of myself I cringe. I can't believe just how much this is really traumatizing me. read more

I asked Salon K to do my mother in law's hair and make up for our wedding. They were fantastic! Kay (salon owner/hair stylist) andTiffany (make up artist) were very flexible with scheduling and the getting a sense of the look she wanted to achieve. I brought them a few pictures of what she thought she might want. They were willing to work with her the day of to make sure she looked and felt her best. She lives out of state and was not able to come in to meet with them before the wedding. On the day of the wedding they came to her hotel room. They were a pleasure for me to do business with before the wedding. And they were also able to put everyone (my husbands family) at ease in the hotel room on what can obviously be a stressful day. My husbands family all had wonderful things to say about Kay and Tiffany. Beyond anything else, they did a great job with my mother in laws hair and make up. The work they did was fantastic! read more
