She was very straight forward and understood what I wanted without complications. I wanted my hair out of my face, half up with curls. I did not get the name of the wonderful young lady who did my makeup. She was very honest about what she could and could not do and did a great job. I wanted a basic cat eye with fake lashes and foundation that will cover my redness. I do recommend you bring pictures of what you want. It will help the staff and if you are like me, sometimes it is hard to express exactly what you want. I paid $125 for both makeup and hair. I will come back!

I could've ended up at Supercuts under those circumstances, but Jamie must've had a cancellation because she had one open appointment yesterday afternoon. (PS: I love being able to schedule online!) As soon as I entered the salon (which is beautiful, by the way), Jamie warmly greeted me at the door; she has an amazing, positive energy, and I trusted her with my locks right away. We talked about what I wanted (non-grandma, low maintenance, incorporate my wacky inelegant natural wave, a hint of edginess so I can trick people into thinking I'm cool and stylish, etc.) and looked at some pictures together, and I could tell she "got me." After a shampoo and fabulous head massage, we returned to the chair so she could work her magic. She styled me using just a blow dryer with a diffuser (Noice - thank you for that!), so I knew I wouldn't have to do a lot to maintain it, and when I saw the final product, I knew I'd found my spirit stylist. I. LOVE. MY. HAIR. (And this is not something I say often.) She upped my style game significantly without breaking the bank. (And if you've visited a stylist in Atlanta, you know it can happen!) Her rate is very reasonable when you consider the epic service she provides. I hate having to upkeep my haircut, but with her mastery she manages to give me a clean cut that lasts 2 months between visits. Highly recommend to book ahead, because shes quite busy! But you will enjoy coming to see her and drinking a beer while she gives you the best cut of your life.

I have been consistent with making and keeping my hair appts. with my stylist. I have learned not to arrive early but exactly on time because my hairstylist is not going to be ready whether it is because she is late arriving or the clients are late. I don't mind waiting 20 minutes past my appt. time but longer than that is inexcusable. Why would a hair stylist schedule to do a baylolage at the same time as a client who just wants to have a trim and blow out? Three times this happened to me with the last being on Saturday. After waiting 20 mins., another staff person washed my hair, which is pretty typical as the staff works together although, I don't usually have to wait 20 mins. as the staff tries to keep everyone on schedule. My stylist was reminded several times that I was waiting. 35 mins. after my scheduled appt. time, my stylist was still working on the baylolage client. I have never been disrespectful to my hairdresser and I always tip between 20 - 25 %. I know that more money is made by a hairdresser with hair dying, baylolage, etc. but at least the stylist could have the decency to schedule a baylolage at a different time. The stylist never has to spend more than 30 - 35 mins. on my hair so at 35 mins. after I arrived, I blew my own hair dry and walked out as I had to be somewhere else on my schedule. I have been going to this stylist for more than 1 1/2 years. Why treat a client this? I won't be returning, too much inconsistency.

Sylvia listened carefully, asked a few questions about how I usually style my hair, and then got to work. The vibe was awesome--lots of conversation which I appreciated. The wash was super relaxing. Sylvia was great about checking in during the cut and explaining what she was doing without over-talking. The final look was exactly what I wanted--my hair had more shape and movement but still felt full and healthy. She finished it off with a smooth blowout that had a bit of soft curl at the ends, which held up nicely for a couple of days. Would definitely come back--Sylvia made the experience feel personalized and low-pressure, which I really value.

After trying MANY MANY salons, from Marietta to Downtown to.... Tucker!!... I finally found Donna Leverette. (The other stylists seem great too!) Donna was able to: 1. Style the wig that I had for the time I had left to use it 2. Turn my newly-growing hair into something that I could be seen with (without the wig) 3. Ultimately, when my hair grew in, "make the most of it." She manages to make my thin hair look fuller. Which helps me be able to wear it long(ish). Which makes me feel feminine again. Donna is a miracle worker! Highlights are not something I'd ever had before, but the ones she gives me not only makes my hair fuller, the color of the highlights/lowlights really frames my face and makes me look younger. I wouldn't have considered "hair color" but it makes a world of difference. To further plug her talent - when I arrived early last week, I saw her last week cut the hair of a 3- or 4-year old who could NOT sit still. It was amazing. Despite his antics (and a little crying when he saw his hair fall onto the grown), she QUICKLY and professionally got that kid's hair looking great. I don't know how much she charges for kids, but I hope she gets hazard pay. Speaking of prices, I have paid much, much much more - at salons in Buckhead and Brookhaven and the West Side. But no one was able to make "the most of" what I have. Additonally, I am so taken aback at how kind and caring everyone there was - did not make me feel like a freak and nonchalantly brought up ways to enhance myself in other ways. There should be a big pink ribbon outside this salon, in recognition of how awesomely they serve someone recovering (!!!) from life's hardest ordeals. There are young stylists - with trendy cuts and colors - as well as those who do more flattering-looking hair for professional women. They do men as well, and as I've said, children.
