Nothing fancy, just needed the bangs thinned out and a tiny bit snipped that overhung on my ear. I had an appointment, went in, and as soon as the stylist picked up the scissors I wanted to bolt. The older lady there has hands that shake badly. Enough so that every time she got close to my ears or my eyes I held my breath and tried not to move. She was nice enough, asking questions and trying to be polite, but I was unable to relax in that short amount of time because I was terrified of being poked. The worst part was the time and price. It took her all of five, maybe seven minutes to thin the bangs and shape up the sides, and had the audacity to charge me $50. $50 for shaky hands and 5 minutes worth of work? I can't go back, and I can't recommend that you do, either.

I cried in the car after wasting that kind of time and money. The girl was so so nice, but worst hair experience ever. My usual hair girl was on maternity leave, so I was desperate for a cut. I told my usual hair girl about it and she informed me the salon owner tends to bully those that leave poor reviews about the salon on social media pretty hard- she showed me and I was appalled. The salon itself is very "liberal" politically with all the signage and stickers and conversation. I don't really care and respect everyone's right to their opinion and free speech- just a weird environment for a professional salon in my personal opinion. Finally, I've got it narrowed down to one stylist, I've double checked to make sure I don't see anything about closed books/not accepting clients, it all seems to check out, and it looks like they don't use a booking site, just DM or text to book. Perfect, I send the DM and I wait. Don't hear anything for about a week and I think, well, maybe they took some time off, they're super swamped, message got lost, whatever. I'm giving full benefit off the doubt. I decide to give it another go and send a text this time. Now here we are, another week has gone by with radio silence. Look, I'm not even upset that I can't get an appointment. You don't want my business, fine, but I'd rather you tell me to scram than get nothing at all. It's just frustrating to get no response at all, especially when there's posts on social media everyday, which leads me to believe my messages are just being ignored. The color was decent, but the cut was flat, no volume or bounce. Worse, when you try to tell them how you like to wear your hair they get pissed off! They walk on water in their minds. They do not care what you think or what you want. Their products are overpriced, but they never recommend them, anyway. Most stylists will suggest styling products to help you at home. Again, they don't care once you walk out of there. My stylist was full of herself, always bragging about what a great stylist she was. Thank God I found a better place that's only a few minutes further but well worth it. At Hair Forum, they stick you with whoever has the fewest appointments. (Wonder why). My current salon goes through the stylists' varied experience and prices and seeks to match you with someone who will work with you. It's perfect because it's a collaboration, not being stuck with a dictator.

I booked with Caitlin V bc she specializes in blondes. Caitlin lived up to her reviews and then some! She took the time to talk to me about what I wanted and she more than delivered. Not only is she talented, she is kind, funny, and really interesting to talk to. I was in need of a 'pick me up' w/my hair and I got it! I am 66 and have had my hair cut and colored all over the world, and I have to say Caitlin is one of the best. Wish I lived in Cincinnati, I'd be a regular! The salon is peaceful and trendy, without being intimidating. The salon manager, Jack communicated clearly with me by email, and was so helpful when I was making my appointment. They were also prompt in responding to my questions, which can be a rarity these days. The front desk staff was so welcoming and made me feel like a long time cherished customer. They gave me recommendations on restaurants and places to visit in the area (shout out Victoria!), as it was my first time to Cincinnati. For probably 15 years, Tammy Messina has cut my hair, and my brother's too, although not all at its present location. Salon Messina, run by Tammy and her sister, Rina, has moved around a bit over the years, but for the past four or five years they have been located off W Us Highway 22 (extension of Montgomery Road), just past the Landen Shopping Center. The current location, set on a large pond in Maineville, is definitely its best location, as it is really homey, cozy, and comfortable on the inside. Throw in the in the kindness, friendliness, and warmth provided Tammy, Rina, and the other hairstylist, Kathy, and you end up with a great experience at Salon Messina. The salon is located in an old house across from the Landen-Deerfield Park, and while most of their business is hair, they are set up to do offer other services such as nails. It doesn't matter who is cutting your hair or greeting you at the reception desk because everyone that works at Salon Messina knows who you are and treats you like a friend (not a client). They always offer a complimentary Coke product or cup of coffee when you walk in the door too. I will say that they aren't always running on time (yet neither am I with Montgomery Road traffic), but that's because they spend ample time working on your hair and making sure you are satisfied with the end product. It isn't glitzy or anything, but if you want a comfortable atmosphere and a friendly, reliable, and experienced person working on your hair instead, Salon Messina can and will offer you all of that at affordable prices.
