In town on business and needed a blow-out. The reviews were ok and it was close, so off I went. The girl was very nice, and the blow dry was good enough, but I do have wavy hair (which is how I walked in). She's a pro, and I even asked before I decided to stay "Can you handle this?" And she gave a sliiiightly sarcastic answer which implied Duh, I think I know how to do hair, yours is no big deal. So, I didn't expect to have a number of shorter hairs sticking up on top and her to tell me to buy some hairspray and pat them down. Never had this happen before. Literally never have hair sticking up on top of my head, even when I travel and have strangers dry my hair! Then I get up to pay. 45$$$!!!! My bad, I should have asked. Who doesn't ask first? This gal right here. But it's Cincinnati and I'm from Chicago -I don't even pay that downtown or at the sh-she spots my friends tell me to use! The Soap Box Salon is a little modern miracle in the middle of downtown, I have walked by this place 1,000 times and never even knew it was there. I finally got a chance to go in during an event. After that I was convinced this was a place I could get used to! If you live downtown you know, finding a salon is few and far between. A salon that you feel comfortable in, isn't a million dollars, and that takes care of you when you are there. This is what you will get here. The owner and the girls that work there are all young and full of energy. They are up on the trends, and can give you anything you ask for. The best part of Soapbox for me is the relaxing atmosphere. How many pop-up salons do you see that have old 80's hair posters plastered on the walls and horrible colors that make you want to put your eye out. Not this place; cool blue hues, and relaxing serenity greens fill this sleek urban salon and make you feel relaxed and comfortable. Now on to Miss Natalie. Natalie was my stylist and I was seriously so annoying and I cannot believe she put up with my crazy schedule. I literally called her two days before and was having a hair meltdown. She came in on her day off to do my hair and I was forever grateful. Since it was my first haircut you get 50% off which is a great deal. For each additional person you bring in you get another 50% off. Whattttt?? Great deal. I got a cut and color, and I am super serious about my hair. Natalie took everything I said and basically made my hair come to life. My poor blonde hair had those gross drab yellow tones and she gave me a fresh new color that was even better than I thought. I was a little nervous about getting a couple different colors in my hair but she was totally right now it isn't so monochromatic and I'm so satisfied with how it turned out. Let this be a lesson to all, they actually know what they are talking about!! One thing, they are a little pricer, but once you see the level of experience and skill (at least with Natalie) you will never have to worry if it's worth the money, because you know you will leave happy. Wow, what a responsibility to be the first one to review this Salon... If I would have to describe my experience here in 3 words, it would be "I loved it". That's the short story. The long one? Well, we came here for a Yelp pampering event, turned out the owner of this salon is a friend of a friend of mine and she did an amazing job drying my hair into shape. I'm very particular about hairdressers and have been going back to Belgium to get my hair cut when I lived abroad the past 4 years. However, that's a lot harder to do once you cross the ocean and go and live in the US so I really needed a haircut and I trusted Sarah as she did such a good job during the Yelp pampering event. I loved how I didn't even have to call to get an appointment, you can just text! I definitely recommend Sarah Hunterman - she's the owner and a real pro. I haven't tried anyone else, I just know she's really good. I went into the salon thinking I wanted something else but not being sure about what exactly and Sarah asked the right questions, showed me a few examples in a book and I was set to go. Usually hairdressers complain about how much hair I have and how long it takes -- none of that here! An efficient cut which turned out to be great. I felt like a different person walking out! We're a few days later now and of course I haven't managed to recreate exactly the same great look but I'm still very happy with my haircut and will definitely be back! Prices: the standard price for a cut is $50, which I think is pretty expensive (the main reason for not giving 5 stars). BUT the first time it's only $25 and if you get a friend to go, it's also only $25 for you - so that takes at least care of your first 2 visits. The other thing I missed from my hairdresser in Belgium is the fact that they don't offer a drink (even just a glass of water would be nice?) and that the hair washing was quite functional (yes, I'm used to a head massage on a massage chair) - but I know that's setting the expectations VERY high... read more

This is a great place to get a trim during lunchtime. I have long, thick hair and Sarah Hunterman does a great job with it! And she is quick so I can get back to the office in plenty of time. (Yay?) I also am able to manage it on my own, though, of course, it never looks as good as it does leaving the salon. I'm just not that adept at dealing with it. So I keep it simple and Sarah keeps it in good shape. Now I have to go out somewhere tonight since my hair looks so good! read more

Sarah is the owner and I will never go to another stylist. First of all she is honest with you about your hair. When I brought in a picture, she quickly found another one and said my hair was better suited for that style. It turned out beautifully! She does not push product on you so I never feel pressured to buy but I typically buy because the products she uses really do make a difference. I think what I like most is that she is so quick! I am in and out in 30 minutes with a shampoo and a great cut. I am not great at styling my own hair and she is taking the time to teach me how to do it. When I told her I wanted a style that could be wake up and go, she gave me one and showed me how to do it. On a personal note, she is very involved in her community. She organizes a fundraiser for her church and also picks a charity each year and organizes a party/event and donates all proceeds. Her price is very reasonable, only $52 and your first cut is only 26. You also get half price if you refer someone. She manages her own calendar and you can just text her at 513-289-1746. read more

First time here this past week. My appt with Brant was great! He really took the time to learn my hair and understand the look I wanted. I never felt rushed. t first place was awesome the I followed instructions and the perm didn't take. Ask for a redue and was told I would have to pay for products again. And was told there was no point for them to redue it since it didn't work the first time. Worst after experience EVER!!! Wish I would have gone to a different salon. I've been going here to get my hair done by Hannah for about 18 months now. I picked this place when I moved to Cincinnati because whoever answered the phone was the most polite person I talked to after calling 4 other salons. I come here about every 6-8 weeks to get full highlights and my hair always looks stunning when I walk out. I just text my stylist when I need an appointment and she always gets me in when I want. Brant is awesome sauce. His groupon deals are very cheap and he does an amazing job. He was able to do a beautiful balayage on my hair with no bleach. YAY! I had to go twice because the first time I did it,the red I wanted on my top veil of the hair didn't stay on (because I refused to put bleach on my hair) but I was able to get another shade of brown instead and it worked perfectly. I bought a Groupon for baylayage hoping to find a new salon after moving to the city. I had an appointment with Brant and he did a fabulous job! I showed him pictures of what I liked and described what I wanted and he hit the nail right on the head. My hairs looks awesome! The salon is really nice and Brant is great to talk with during your appointment. Definitely recommend this salon! It was so easy to an appointment, he got me in within a week. There is meter parking upfront so I recommend downloading the passport app so you can feed the meter on your phone. read more

I found Brant through a Groupon and I'm sooo happy I did. I went in not sure whether I wanted full foil highlights or balayage. He took the time to ask me about my lifestyle to determine what would work best. After I admitted that I was terrible about maintaining my hair he said balayage would be the way to go for me. I showed him pictures to give him an idea of the color I wanted and not only did he deliver, he actually did a better job than the pictures I showed him. The experience from beginning to end was amazing. I showed up right at 4pm for my 4pm appointment. He was finishing up with another client so I had to wait a few minutes, which I didn't mind because it gave me time to enjoy the glass of wine I was offered. I've received many compliments from co-workers already and my husband loved my hair. I moved to Cincy 2 years ago and had been searching for a hairstylist and I definitely found him in Brant. To begin, Kelsey was incredible. This is not a commentary on a lack of skill or service. She provided a fantastic cut and color. I was thrilled with her professionalism, quality of service, and the beautiful salon. The only reason I am noting 3 instead of 5 stars is because pricing was a bit confusing. The website claims half off services for new clients and even though my stylist was listed as having a new client discount I found out while paying that in fact does not apply to all stylists and she no longer offers one. Additionally, the salon is listed as a participating salon on the Downtown Cincinnati Gift Card but they no longer accept the card as payment. The owner did offer to buy the card from me but I opted to retain the card to use elsewhere. The price tag felt a bit like a bait and switch and soured my experience. That being said, even with these drawbacks the final product was lovely. read more
