As an African American that has been on the search for "the best stylist in Boston", I am happy to say that I found her. I called Salon Monet in the morning on a Friday, and asked for an appointment with Lisa. (my name too, I swear I'm not her) I was a little apprehensive, as Newbury Street, in my opinion is for "ladies that lunch", pseudo elitists, basically a pretentious free for all. Anyway, my experience at Salon Monet was absolutely fantastic. Several times I was offered water/coffee/magazines. All of the staff was professional and friendly. I got there early, so I got to see one of her customers. It was a short shaved bob, and it was gorgeous. When it was my turn, Lisa looked at the condition of my hair (relaxed, split ends, dry winter scalp), and asked me what I wanted done. She was so nice, didn't reprimand me for previously applying my own relaxer. I went in for color and a new cut. She did an AMAZING job, and this is who I will go to for the rest of my time in Boston. While I was there, satisfied customers just popped in to say HI to her and other staff. While there, I saw a multi-racial little girl get a blow out, a white girl get extensions, a black dude with more hair than me get corn rows. All of the staff is great, I am ecstatic about my new hair. It was less than $150 bucks for color, cut and eyebrows (Blu? is great for eyebrows), and I won't go anywhere else from now on. The one thing that sold me, was after I was shampooed, conditioned, and had color applied, Lisa literally said "are you sure you want to do this?", meaning cut several inches off. She explained how much she was going to cut, and wanted to make sure I was ok with it. I got a gorgeous flat ironed bob. When I left, I went in to the MAC store to get new lipstick. Sure, Newbury street is lined with hip looking salons but the question remains--can any of them do hair? Well, If you want to come out looking FAB, then this is the place! Here's what's good: 1. The knowledable staff: You just know that that know what they are talking about. They are not trying to sell you junk that you don't need. They just give it to you straight and will say no when necessary (Perm + Color = No). I like that a lot. These days, everyone is trying to make a buck so it is refreshing to know that there are still some out there who just want what is best for their clients. Not to mention, you get a FREE consultation. 1.5 The service. The service is amazing--you walk in expecting to get the typical Newbury Street service (we are too good to do your hair) and are left feeling like they are doing you a favor even after the $500 do. The reciptionist is AMAZING. All of the other stylists are AMAZING. It is a very friendly environment and they catered to my every whim. 2. The deep conditioning treatments: I get them everytime I come in. They can revive the most damaged of hair and leave your locks super strong, light, and fragrant. 3. The cuts: I know cuts vary from person to person but my hair cut was amazing. 4. The hair extensions: I've never gotten hair extensions but i've been in the salon and have witnessed many amazing before and afters. I swear, hair extensions can really work wonders and Salon Monet does an amazing job. I love this place! read more

They do a great job to put it mildly. The service is fabulous. The staff is superb. They are the best in Boston by a comfortable couple of miles. They accomodate you in any way possible. They have great hair treatments that work wonders. Several of my friends have gone and have left completely satisfied. They are very honest with you. Always suggesting what is best for your hair. Never too pushy. For hair extensions: You can choose any kind of hair you please. They order it for you, dye it as well. If hair tangles and sheds, they cannot be blamed. Regardless of the hair itself, the extension job is outstanding. If you have damaged hair, they cannot fix it overnight nor can they fix it with one visit. But it will certainly improve with one treatment and will especially improve after consistent visits. I have no reservations in saying it is worth every penny. I went into Salon Monet with my hair about as bad as it's ever been-ever. My roots were so bad that I looked like straight up white trash (I have bleached blonde hair) and my eyebrows were like about to converge into a uni. Not only that, my hair felt, to the touch, like straw but drier. It was truly bad. I was immediately offered a drink upon entering-water, tea, coffee-and I was even offered lunch. Maitrieya was my stylist and she had a very thoughtful and nice consultation with me about the issue that was my hair, and she was super nice and helpful. I was skeptical of how good it could really come out considering how disgusting I looked coming in, but when I saw the end result (with eyebrows waxed too), I gotta say, I was stunned. I felt pretty again. My hair came out looking like freaking Jennifer Lawrence. It's beautiful, and feels so soft and amazing! I chose Shellee's salon because after wandering aimlessly in salons that damaged my hair, I finally found someone who restored it to his natural beauty, helped me to grow it long, and taught me how to take care of it. The secret lies in understanding the type of hair you have, what products to use accordingly and how to use them. There you have it. All the fancy salons I had tried before were quite clueless, and my hair was always dry, my scalp itchy, and when I asked questions, they were not knowledgeable. The natural hair extensions I got at Salon Monet were gorgeous and I felt like a true princess with them. I can't believe Shellee actually helped me outgrow my extensions! I knew she was doing magic when all the moms at school started giving compliments on how beautiful my hair looked. am a Salon Owner/Stylist and I went to another Salon to receive Lash Extensions because I heard of the good service and lavish lashes. She is booking up pretty fast and now I know why!!!!!! Here is my experience: Very Professional, clean, on time, picked lashes to compliment mine, asked what I expected and told me what to expect, patient, very delicate, I fell asleep, look real, lavish/long, made my eyes smile, I am happy, did I mention, I am happy, feels natural, want them to never, ever come off, gave me info to take home to ...be able to care for them and explained that as well. Well, this experience will bring me back!! This is definitely second nature for her. It helps that she wears them and I see what I could expect. Salon Monet is a professional salon that does exceptional work. I went to Salon Monet last year, not knowing what to expect, after searching for a new salon for a couple of months. I was plesantly surprised with the professionalism and service I received that day and everytime I have had my hair styled by Shellee or any of the other stylists. It doesn't matter how I have decided to wear my hair over the past year; whether it was natural, texturized or if I had hair extensions put in; my hair always looks great and I get many compliments. Darla has been doing my lashes for the last 6 months and the only complaint I have is now I have another added beauty expense because I cannot live without them ;) The first time I had them done I was so nervous that I was going to look like a drag queen LOL, but they are so natural looking! Darla is very detail oriented, takes her time and really takes pride in her work. I get compliments all the time. The couple people I told that they were extensions didn't even believe me. For natural African hair, Josette and Jamekka are the best stylists I have found in Boston. They are fast, gentle, and kind; the hairdos stay in. We have been going to them as a family since my daughters were small. My daughters both have the ultimate in dense and curly texture. Other stylists have quailed, but with Josette and Jamekka we walk out 90 minutes later with beautiful, sleek twists and smooth, tiny braids. They owner, Shellee, is always gracious and calm. As a result Monet does not have the hectic feel some salons seem to have. Coffee and tea are always offered to adults and candy to the kids. As a 5-year regular, I can sincerely offer Monet 5 stars. read more

I am so glad I found Salon Monet! My hair began to thin this past year, and just didn't look as good as it did when I was younger. The salons in the suburbs did not offer any good solutions for this common problem (which surprised me). I walked into Salon Monet one afternoon and met Shellee. Salon Monet is one of the best hair salon's I have been to in years, they have helped my hair grow back to its beautiful self after several years of services elsewhere that ruined my hair, I finally have found a place that cares about hair care and it's health. I waited for 45 minutes before they told me that someone else can wash my hair. They then tried to kill time by putting me under the drier. after an hour wait I asked what;s the deal and they said that in 15 minutes that person can 'start me' while my client is finishing up.
