No one cuts hair like Gaston! I won a silent auction at a charity event for a few haircuts at Salon Acote and was excited to try them out. Located on the second floor of a brownstone overlooking Newbury Street; the salon is bright and airy with the friendliest staff. Even after my prize haircuts ran out, I have continued going to Gaston, even trusting him with my pre-wedding trim and then my long awaited post-wedding chop where I gave him full permission to work his magic (spoiler alert: he did and gave me the bob of my summer dreams!). My go to hair salon for 10+ years. Donika is the best! I'm always welcomed with a tea or a cappuccino. I usually get a hair color, a cut and a blow dry in less than 2 hrs. You find parking in front of the salon if you book early appointments ( Newbury st parking can be challenging sometimes) price is reasonable and I would not change it for any other places. 5 stars all the way! read more

I really wanted to like this place because everyone was so nice but I got a keratin treatment (something i've gotten done 10+ times in my life) and I noticed my scalp was hurting - like a lot. I told the stylist that is hurt and she opened a window as if that would help and continued working. After two days, my scalp is flaking off in chunks. It's so gross and all of my vacation pictures look like I have a serious dandruff problem (I don't). I think it's from burns from the blow dryer she was using. Or maybe they used a chemical that should not have been used. Either way, stay away. read more

It was time for a much needed, overdue haircut. I called on a Tuesday to see if I could schedule a same day appointment and there were 3 options. I chose to see Jason since is a senior stylist and my hair has seen better days. I was given a robe and the receptionist took my coat then offered me a beverage. Shortly after Jason greeted me and took me one level up. He asked me about my hair goals, what I was looking for and so on. He was very attentive and patient with being so indecisive. It was a nice cut and nice experience, although I thought it was a bit unusual that the stylist also washes the clients hair as in my prior experience and assistant does it. read more

Ok I have been coming here for years now officially. FWIW I have long, super-thick in volume, but also humid-frizzy fine-stranded, 2Aish+ hair that has literally made less experienced stylists cry in the past. No more! Belkys is still amazingly friendly and personable, great for cuts, and either subtler 'better than natural' fine highlights for conservative, polished, professional work or funkier hip color balayages too. Just tell her what you think you want and she will listen, adapt, and adjust! (Also fun to chat with about the local music, restaurant & bar scene.) I followed her to Acote from another salon because she is so great. If Belkys is not available in a pinch, Richard is also great for super-fine, professional natural-looking color blends and cuts, though costs a bit more. Alex also gave me a great cut once, but broke out for his own salon. Bonus points for nice shampoo scalp massages, neat rotating heat dryer circles, good music, hot tea or even snacks or wine some days. Can't say enough: try Belkys! read more

I had been to multiple salons around Boston before I finally found Acote Salon. After getting balayage for the first time at a different salon earlier this year, I decided it was finally time to commit to a salon where I could trust the stylists with my hair and also make sure it was a place that I felt comfortable and relaxed in. As someone who only gets their hair done a maximum of two times a year it was important for me to find the perfect place and this salon did not disappoint! Melissa did a haircut and balayage touch-up for me, I was really happy that she took me early and I was in and out of there in less than 3 hours. She listened to what I wanted and made suggestions based upon my preferred maintenance of my hair. I should also add that I have thick, naturally very dark Asian hair and she did a great short hair cut on my hair. I already can't wait to come back to Salon Acote for my next hair service - it was a plus that for two services the price was still less than many luxury salons in the area and for the complimentary drinks and snacks I would say their prices are more than worth it with such a talented team of stylists. read more

Not only she was very honest and patient with her work but also she was very experience with her hair cutting skills and balayage skills. I have extremely thick wavy hair and I've been getting it colored (blonde) for years. I know there are a lot of talented people at this salon. Personally, I love how Miriam does my hair. I'm going to post a photo of the blowout I had today just so you can see that I'm not exaggerating. I got a really bad hair cut for my type of hair here. I specifically asked for no one to use razors and my hair stylist who was not featured on the team website, only uses razors. One thing to think about before going is the way they pick your hairstylist if you are a new client. The owner of the salon just looks at you and doesn't look at your hair and just picks a stylist for you. I specifically asked the receptionist to include that I have very thick curly hair and all the stylists seemed overwhelmed and not inspired at all. I think if you have fine, straight hair, this salon is perfect, but if you have traditionally difficult hair, maybe just skip over this place. Now I have to try and grow this out before my wedding. Im so sad and a little desperate but I guess by the end of the day I should've just left once he said he only works with razors. :/ read more

I'm new to Boston and have tried a couple places for a haircut. From the hair wash with Natasha to the cut with Nazila, this place is by far the best. Everyone was polite, I was immediately offered a coffee which I drank on their outdoor roof patio (I arrived a few minutes early). I showed Nazila a couple pictures and she knew exactly what I wanted (better than I did) and carried it out perfectly. My hair is weirdly wavy but she just knew how to make it lie well. The ambience is amazing and I live so close that I really wanted to give this place a shot. Danica recently cut my hair and gave me one of the worst cuts I've ever had. She was completely distracted, stopping to check her phone in the middle or while cutting my hair, and when looking at other clients; she actually nicked my ear with her nails/jewelry quite a few times without apologizing while cutting my hair as well, to the point I needed to put Vaseline on my ears after the cut. I really can't even look at my hair - she cut the bags straight across they are constantly in the way. I will be returning to my previous salon or trying out a different stylist in the future. read more

This is a very nice, high end salon. It's on the expensive side, but you definitely get your money's worth. It is very clean and they offer you a drink, take your coat, and do everything they can to make you comfortable. When I first went, I was ready for a drastic change, and my stylist Kelsi absolutely delivered. She gave me tips on what would look best, how to style, and most importantly, listened to my requests when I wanted something done a certain way. My only reason for four stars is the stylists. While all the stylists I have met are very kind, none of them have remembered me or anything I told them about myself after going to that stylist multiple times. I understand that they see dozens of people a day, but I would have hoped to build some sort of relationship after going multiple times. I used to work for Boston fashion week years ago and Acote partnered with BFW that day. One of the Acote stylist gave me a discounted card for a haircut. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to use that coupon but this place was on the back of my mind for a while. This year I finally decided to chop all my hair off and rock that bobbed haircut for the first time. An awesome hairstylist, Tim, introduces himself to me, crack lots of jokes, and helped me through the hair transformation process. I think the price was reasonable, the staffs are super talented (especially Tim and the eyebrow lady), I would definitely recommend my friends here. Had a bad experience recently where my hair was dyed pink, then the fix was grey white blonde. I was going for a slightly lighter blonde (am naturally dirty blonde/light brown), so I was disappointed in this service. My services always took a long time, but this one was super long too and I was unhappy with the fix. This service was also not discounted nearly as much as I would have liked given how long I was there and how not blended and bad the grey white looked. I had all positive experiences before this, but maybe people need to multi-task with customers a little less to avoid this in the future. read more

Love my haircut and color! Allison is really warm and open, which was super nice, and Bona is a sweetheart. When I first walked into the salon I was a bit shocked at how many people were there considering the pandemic, but shrugged it off as I had double masked and felt that I had enough room to distance. One thing that was NOT ok AT ALL was seeing a specific person sitting at the bar with her mask off almost the entire 2 hours I was there. I'm unsure if she was a customer or a stylist, but I was truly shocked and nervous about her unsafe behavior. While the service at this salon was great and everyone was really kind, I would love to see some sort of initiative for more distancing and appropriate mask wearing, ESPECIALLY when there are so many people in the salon. read more

The first time I went here I had Danielle do my hair. I've never gotten my hair super light before and she did a beautiful blonde caramel balayage. I have experienced many bad haircuts in the past, since I have very straight hair with a few challenging cowlicks. I think Salon Acote is really awesome! The space is clean, spacious, comfy, smells good. I enjoyed sitting at the waiting area by the window, people watching. Everyone was very friendly. The spa water and the cappuccino were amazing. The visit was a little field trip for my daughter, as a present for her good grades and getting into an advanced program in middle school. I made a last minute reservation with Maha, just the day before. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical, and sort of glad that someone was willing to dye my daughter's hair. Maha was very friendly, attentive, patient, talented, artistic, and great at paying attention to details. We got there on time, she was ready. She took time to listen to my daughter; her lifestyle, her preferred style, then made some suggestions. Once the decision was made, she started working on her hair (because we all know kids hate waiting). The whole process was very pleasant, and relatively quick. The balayage was top notch, perfectly painted with no solid lines. The funky color distribution was impressive. We were a bit worried about damaging her hair, but my daughter's hair felt nicer after it was dyed. Yay, Maha! Basically, this woman has made my day (or, week!) I'll start by saying I never post reviews. In fact, after using Yelp for years I finally made an account so I could post this review. That's how good this experience was. Today, I got full highlights + hair cut by Nazila at Salon Acote. And it was hands down the best hair experience I have EVER had. Getting my hair colored is always such a stressful experience. I've had thick zebra stripe highlights and had my hair turned blue (at other salons). It's really no fun. Nazila did a phenomenal job on the color, cut and styling. Here are all the reasons my experience today was awesome: 1. I have a lot of hair and it's very long. Nazila took the time (close to 3 hours, even though my appointment time was only 2 hours total) to create the finest highlights I've ever seen. It looks so natural! See the picture for yourself. I have had stylists who have tried to rush through my hair and consequently, the zebra-lights. 2. Nazila did two separate glazes for my hair - one for the freshly colored roots to help with blending, and a second for my ends to spruce up the older blonde. She also added a repair treatment to my hair. The shock of my life - at no additional cost for any of it. The last salon that I tried for a bit (also on Newbury down the street and very expensive to begin with) would charge for literally everything. Each glaze (I often need 2 at baseline because of my long hair), a treatment to protect my heat-abused hair, even charging for the blow out! And they wouldn't tell you until you got to the register. My total cost for a simple "partial highlight" appointment at this other salon would come to over $300. Not here! Not only did Nazila take the time to do all these extras, she did it for my hair and not to try to jack up the cost of my visit. Bravo to Nazila and Salon Acote. 3. Whenever I get my hair cut, every stylist always cuts too much. Nazila listened when I said I only wanted the dead ends off, and only cut ~1". It doesn't even really look shorter to me, just healthier. 4. Lastly, everyone is so nice! When you walk in there's a ton of snacks (muffins, bagels, cookies), wine, variety of coffees and cappuccinos. I was trying to be good going on my honeymoon so soon but I swear at least 5 people asked me if they could get me anything. The ladies at the front desk were also so sweet. My entire experience at Salon Acote was just wonderful. Long story short - if you're a blonde in Boston who has been struggling like I have to find a hair salon and stylist that will create the perfect natural blonde for you with the added perk of not robbing you blind - Nazila at Salon Acote is the one for you. She has been doing hair for over 30 years and believe me, it shows. I'm writing this review waiting to board my flight to my honeymoon and I couldn't be happier. Thank you Nazila!! read more
