Let me start out by saying that my critique is not about the hair stylists. I've seen both Veronica and Amanda, and both are excellent at their jobs and I was very happy with my results. However, today I had the worst, rudest customer service experience of my life as a result of the salon's owner, and I strongly urge anyone looking for a polite, welcoming atmosphere to stay far away from this salon. Here's what happened. I got an email from the salon today confirming an appointment for tomorrow, which is weird because I didn't book anything and haven't been there since May. So I called to see what was up, and the receptionist (who I later found out is the owner) said he fixed it, but I asked why this happened in the first place, so he put me on hold. He came back, told me another Nick booked it, and I said okay, and that was the end. Then I got ANOTHER email confirming the appointment an hour later. Clearly the problem wasn't fixed, so I called again and said what happened, and the owner said "okay" and hung up on me. He didn't give me any answers and rudely hung up, so I called again, but no one answered. This happened FOUR times. I left a voice mail and sent an email asking for some clarification and explaining what had just happened to me. They responded to the email saying all the stylists were busy and couldn't answer the call, and that everything was fixed after the first call, though this was clearly untrue because of the second email I got. So I responded saying that the problem clearly persisted, and that my concern was that my credit card would be charged for not showing up to an appointment that I didn't book, and I said I didn't think it was appropriate to ignore four of my calls. And to that, I got "OMG get over yourself" in response. Naturally, I posted the email to Facebook, and the owner commented on my post saying that it "bordered on harassment" before deleting it. Feeling very offended at this accusation, especially since I was the one told to "get over myself" for trying to get to the bottom of the problem he caused, I decided to go to the salon after work. I did that, tried to speak to the owner, but he literally didn't let me complete a sentence and kept interrupting me, telling me that I was the rude one because I called the salon four times. He proceeded to refuse to listen to me and escorted me out of his store, threatening to call security. All of this occurred not because I did anything wrong, but because his salon made a mistake and I was trying to correct it. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly. The owner of this salon clearly does not care about his customers or clientele, because when they come to him with problems he responds by ignoring them and threatening brute force via security guards. It's unacceptable, and I will certainly never return. I urge anyone reading this to reconsider this salon and not support this man. read more

This is long overdue but I had a GREAT 5 STAR experience when I came here to get a facial. I am so embarrassed yelping about my blackheads =( but Mimi did a really careful job extracting them YAY! They use DERMALOGICA products too! Not some no-name brand so I can trust that my skin is being taken care of properly!! The facials (and i'm guessing waxings too) are done in the back in a separate room. They have this aromatherapy thing going on and the smell is soooooooooooo amazing! it's a little minty, a little fresh, and very very relaxing!! Side note - if you come by during Art Walk, it JUST SO HAPPENS that the people who offer free massages set up shop right outside! Stephanie has been my stylist for the last five years and is absolutely the best! She is very talented and has taken me from a brunette to auburn to blonde and even shades of purple! Over the last five years I have also had long hair and very short hair. She truly is an artist with every shade and cut. She does it all and each time it is absolutely perfect. Stephanie is always very professional and thorough and analyzes the best method to give you the color and cut that you want. I always walk out of the salon in awe. In addition to being very talented, Stephanie is such a warm person to be around. She makes the whole process fun and I always enjoy getting to spend time with her in the salon while she works her magic. Stephanie also makes it very easy to schedule appointments and has a very accommodating schedule. I highly recommend Stephanie as your stylist. You won't be disappointed! read more

I was recommended to this salon by a coworker and I can honestly say that I am glad I gave them a shot. You are able to find parking in the structures for about $8 or if you're lucky, you can find street parking. The decor is very relaxing and earthy, and they have candles with a welcoming scent that matches very well with the decor. You're greeted by friendly people, and they offer you drinks (there is even a little candy bowl in the waiting area). On my first visit, Brendan took care of me. Haha, I love him! He's funny and attentive. You don't have to worry when you're here. Everyone is well-trained, experienced, and basically know what they are doing. Sometimes, what you want isn't ideal for your hair, and they will tell you their honest opinion. They not only want to take care of your hair, they want you to look good. Meaning, for your hair to compliment your face and skin tone. I came in wanting to bleach my hair just because I was so used to light colored hair. However, I left with short hair, and a dark violet hair color with partial highlights. My hair was up to my waist and I chopped it all off until it reached my collar bone. My poor stylist stayed over 2 hours over closing time to tend to my hair. I felt so bad, but he didn't mind at all. I was pleased with the results and my hair felt wonderfully soft and smelled great. The next morning, I got a text from them asking me to come in because they were not 100% happy with the vibrancy of the color. So, they wanted to touch up the color for free. That's proof that it's not all just about making money, they actually stand behind their work. As for the pricing, it's reasonable. They do offer discounts (e.g student discounts) and stuff. All in all, my experience with this salon is great. I had really bad experiences with previous salons but this definitely made it on my top list. Not to mention, each haircut comes with the BEST freaking scalp and neck massage EVER. If you're always stressed out like me, their massages will make you want to melt into the chair. I visited Salon on Main yesterday evening and I had to make sure to write a review because the experience was so great! My stylist was Stephanie, and she was fabulous. Total color guru. Ok, back story on my hair.. Had a very patchy and brassy color job done on my hair when going from a brunette ombré to blonde.. I get there's supposed to be stages to save your hair, but it was bad. Anyways- Stephanie consulted on what would look best w my skin and what would really help fix my hair bc at this point it is pretty damaged as well. She created her color after our consultation and it turned out amazing!! Looks so much healthier and smooth and the colors gorgeous. Oh and she's also a great stylist as well as color... I got so many bad haircuts in college that I actually started cutting my own hair, and got pretty good at it. About 3 years ago on a whim I decided to give stylists another try and randomly went in to get a cut. Boy did I luck out. Her name is Ivonne Villalobos and she is fantastic. The first time I met this energetic little cutie, she told me, "my goal is to make you look sexy!" Well it's been 3 years, and I've gone back to her every two weeks. My girlfriend LOVES my hair and so do I. Ivonne really does have an eye for what works for each person on an individual basis, I've never seen someone stand up from her chair and not look their absolute best. The salon itself is a swanky place with a laid back, friendly vibe. But it's really Ivonne's happy personality and professional skill that make it worth the visit. Martin is the best! I have fine, straight hair and he turned my tired bob into an edgy stacked masterpiece. The best haircut I've ever had! He cut my hair dry, which I've never experienced before. The results were amazing. I got gorgeous, dimensional color too - again, the best I've ever had! Martin specializes in pop colors (peach, pink, etc.), but as a lawyer I needed something more subdued for court. He listened to what I needed carefully and I felt really confident after our consultation. He definitely delivered. So so happy with the results! Martin is a great guy, to boot. I think I have a messed up head and an unmanageable mange of hair. I've long given up on getting any 'style' to my hair. Having said that, I have a hard time trusting anyone with my hair. Not that because I think I have lovely lock or anything -- far from it. I've had my share of bad haircuts in lifetime. It takes a long time for me to trust someone to cut my hair. I used to live in Cerritos and found a brilliant barber. Even when I moved back to the SFV, I used to drive all the way down to Cerritos for a haircut just to see him. I discovered Salon on Main a few years ago. I've seen a number of hairdressers come and go. I've seen some manager changes too. Its when I found Mimi that I found my newest hairstylist. She used to rent a chair at the salon before it underwent some major changes. I believe the owner abandoned the store and the building owners were ready to close the shop. Instead Mimi, worked with the owners and managed to keep the salon open and running ever since. This has easily been more than a year or so. Major credit to a woman who has put in a lot of hard work to keep a business running. I completely support Mimi for that endeavour. She is an absolute sweetheart. Mimi doesn't have years and years of experience as a stylist, but that doesn't matter to me. She cuts my hair right. She has tried a few techniques on me that I've enjoyed. Its now to a point I completely trust her and let her do whatever she wants. I joke with her that I only come in to get a nap while she washes my hair and cuts it. LOL. She has made me a fan of straight razor cuts. She also provide full salon services. I'd guess that all the hair stylings a girl needs. (I wouldn't know) She also staffs a gal that does the manicures and pedicures. If you ever go to DTArtwalk, you'll surely see her in front of the salon offering haircuts. You'll see her smiling and having some wine with all the passerbys. If you're in the area, you should stop by and get a color or cut. read more

My review is for the Brazillian Blowout service (Brazillian Keratin). I am way to lazy to write reviews usually, but after 3 weeks my hair is still healthy, non-frizzy, smooth to the touch, and straight without any additional products, conditioners, straighters, or even blow drying. It's a friggin' MIRACLE. My original hair texture was basically like Barbie's plastic-y feeling hair except ridiculuously frizzy, as if Barbie had been playing around inside a light socket. It'd been bleached several times and flat ironed daily. It was falling out and awful. I splurged on the fairlyl expensive treatment and I LOVE IT. She said that it would last for months, and I didn't believer her. Almost a month has gone by and my hair still looks and feels great. Other salons offer this service, but they're either way too busy to accomodate my schedule or much more expensive. This salon is both fairly priced and un-busy. And the ladies who work there are brilliant at what they do. read more

Nicole cut my hair into a lob (long bob) and she did a great job! She went over all the products that she used in my hair and was detailed in the cut and why she cut my hair in a certain way. Jessica Blair is the best stylist I have ever gone to. I now live in New York and fly to LA twice a year - nobody else is allowed to touch my hair in between visits. Jess is honest, friendly, and bubbly. It's gotten to the point where I give her no direction except "just make me look beautiful," and she never disappoints! She is always on-trend and her own hair always looks fabulous. Plus, unlike other stylists, Jess knows what you mean when you tell her not to cut the length - and she makes sure both sides of your hair are even (how other stylists are unable to do this, I don't know. But I've been to "head" stylists and paid a lot more for my haircut before and they still don't measure up). Basically, Jess is the best! read more

Because I was starting school the next day, I got the "ok" from the Hubby to splurge and pamper myself with a manicure. Mmmmmmm... Since Salon on Main is walking distance from my building, they were an obvious choice. The interior is nice and simple, not too much going on, but you don't feel like you're in jenky-town. I had Ericka as my person, and I'll tell ya -- it kind of amazes me when someone is in such a social industry and doesn't enjoy conversation. I don't want to feel like like I've "hired" her to shine my shoes for goodness-sakes, I at least want to be able to make basic conversation! I was asking all the questions, and eventually gave up and just enjoyed the background music. And in the end, I had an $18 manicure that made my hands super grimy, I had to go wash them before I left the salon. But maybe that's normal? All in all...eh. read more

Not sure if guys are suppose to admit this, then again, I live Hollywood-adjacent, so, ummm, probably I'm safe. Anyway, confession, I come here to get my brows waxed! There, I said it! If I didn't, I'd end up with a freaking unibrow and those aren't sexy...not now, not ever! In an effort to make sure that the unibrow doesn't overtake me, I slip in for a little bit of hair removal...this must be done since I've been told that a dude shaving his brows is pretty way wrong. Seriously, I tried it once and ended up with 3/4 of one eyebrow gone. BAD! And, I'll be damned if I will ever tweeze my own eyebrows...really, that sh*t ain't happen! So... MUST. WAX. BROWS. Here's why I keep coming back: Nikki is amazing! She takes her time and totally doesn't make me feel any less manly about hanging out in a salon getting my unibrow waxed to perfection. And when I say perfection, I mean, I don't look all tweezed and plucked like some Hollywood-wannabe-douchbag, I just end up looking good and as masculine as one can given the fact that I just had my brows done. Here's the fun part, I have super sensitive skin. I use to go to a little place over in Silver Lake by an ice cream store and one time they got a little bit aggressive and left me with scabs over both eyes. Freaky and not sexy was the result! Anyway, Nikki has always done an amazing job, never leaving me looking anything less than perfect! After a much needed trim I remembered walking by here and decided to just give them a try. They offered everything I was in the market for and I figured it'd be easier to just get everything taken care of at once. As a first time customer I felt comfortable right away. When I walked in everyone was real friendly and warm. Plus the overall feel inside is very relaxed. Nails: Um... they definitely didn't look as bad while I was there. I only have two requirements ... they must be even and they cant be too short. For the first time I was happy with their shape. I'm not a fan of square or round they have to be squared with round ends and the nail cant be longer than the finger. The mani/pedi combo is $35 but since I decided to go with the gel I was charged separately for them for a total of $50. I thought $7 would get added to the combo for a total of $42 but it is what it is. Really, what sucks is that I have to show up to my regular nail lady tomorrow and get them cleaned. They're just look so sloppy. To make things worse- they're gel so aside from paying extra today I will have to once again pay extra to get them cleaned if not removed. And my pedicure which I noticed when I got home is just as sloppy if not worse. The nail was left so damn short!! It looks like I bite my toe nails. I couldn't really tell while at the Salon because I chose such a dark color but yeah... AND the color on the nail is ruined not to mention that its on my skin and with acetone clearly available I cant help but wonder how much more work would it have been to use it. {I just spent the last few minutes reading through the reviews and she has so many followers, its disappointing that I didnt get the same.} HAIR: AMANDA washed, cut and blow dried my hair. What a great place! Stephanie was wonderful, my hair looks good (and thus so do I - sound thoery, at least.) Easy to find... There's even nearby parking! But the staff is the key: friendly, efficient, personable... I felt well-taken-care-of thruout. All of the stylists seemed professional and courteous; not only are walk-ins welcome, everyone who walked in got prompt attention and apparently the same treatment I was getting. I received a facial here and was very pleased with the service. When I checked in, I was happily greeted and immediately asked if I would like a beverage while I wait. I asked for hot tea and within minutes, it was given to me. The salon was bustling with people getting their hair done and they seemed to have a lot of staff on hand. However, the ambience was relaxed.. no one seemed to be rushing. I especially liked that even though they were busy, I was still being taken care of in a nice manner and not forgotten. Upon being greeted by the esthetician, she walked me to the facial room and I was given time to disrobe and get tucked in.. to the table. The facial was very soothing and relaxing.. I received the aromatherapy facial (60 mins) and got a lactic acid peel (add-on service for an additional $20) and my skin was glowing for days after! Four stars because in the facial room, there is no place to put my belongings. I do not like it when I have to put my clothes let alone my gucci bag on the floor. This was the first time I've been here, but surely not the last. Veronica was my hair stylist and I couldn't have asked for better. When I entered, half my head was long Asian hair and the other half was growing out a former shave, so I was looking to get a pixie cut. She listened, knew exactly what to do for my hair type, gave me some bangin' red streaks and cut it so it framed my face well and also looked feminine. Veronica was super reassuring and lovely to talk to. And if that doesn't convince you, there's free water and tea and the decor is remarkable. I have been a client of Angela's for over 2 years now and she is amazing! I use to get haircuts from Angela when she worked for another Salon in Hollywood, but recently she moved Salon's to work at Salon on Main in downtown LA. I have had over a dozen different stylists and hair cut specialists in 20 years but noone has done as good of a job as Angela, so I refuse to go to anyone else. Salon on Main not only has Angela as an amazing stylist, but the salon is very clean, and sets a great relaxing experience to make the haircut experience very enjoyable. I def recommend this place, and I highly recommend that you ask for Angela if you want a fresh cut. read more

Jose saved me! My hair was overgrown and dry. I had a few concerns and left the rest to him. He took the weight off my thick hair and framed my face great. I have such a round face that I get nervous sometimes when stylists don't know how to cut for a round face and he put me at ease. I'm happy I stopped by and will be back! Definitely worth the money. (Review on nail care) I came here for the first time to get a mani-pedi ($35 - not the cheapest, but definitely reasonable for the experience you get) and was very satisfied. There is a separate room in the salon where they do your nails, and it's very comfortable and inviting. Veronica, the nail technician, did a great job - she was friendly and the mani-pedi felt very thorough. What I especially appreciated is she would ask if she was being too rough on my nails to ensure that the experience was a comfortable one, and it was gentle overall and very pleasant (I've had bad experiences at other places where they're too rough cleaning cuticles). I walked out a happy camper and feeling pampered. I'd definitely recommend this place to get your nails done in the downtown area. read more

Jessica Blair has to be one of the BEST stylists in Los Angeles. I have been to her twice now and she can work miracles. I don't know about any of the other stylists at this salon, but I will be going back to see Jessica. I went to Jessica once at Salon Eleven, and once at Salon on Main and both times have been fantastic. I also have several friends that go to see her, and they are equally loyal clients. Not only does she give AMAZING customer service, but she is a legitimately talented hair stylist. She understands her clients and figures out what is right for them and their look. I am very short, but have a bigger oblong face shape, and I wanted a short haircut. Jessica gave me a very cute bob that can be either choppy and funky, or smooth and straight, depending on my mood. She also showed me different options for styling it myself. My childhood fear of a bob haircut are now gone and I am a VERY happy customer!!!! Another perk: I was offered, and enjoyed a great cup of green tea. A very nice touch!! PS: I am not sure how pricey this place is considered, but I picked $$$ because haircuts start at $65 according to the website, so I figured that was a medium-high-ish price, but still affordable. read more

This isn't as much about the salon as it is about one of the resident stylists at Salon on Main: John Esparza. I followed John from Salon 11 to Salon on 6 to Salon on Main (all downtown LA salons). I no longer even live in the area but I continue to drive over 20 miles to John at least twice a month for a cut. He is a skilled and experienced stylist who puts a tremendous amount of effort and care into every single cut. In over three years, John has not once rushed a haircut or even used a buzzer to save time. He is hands down, one of the best stylists I have come across! read more

A week later I called she gave me the best consolation ever!! She is super professional, fun, cool and innovative. They recycle 97% of there waste, that includes your hair (used to stop oil spills). This was my 4th visit to have my hair sculpted by the fabulous Ivonne and its official: I'm in love with my hair designer! I really dig that one of the first things she asks is how the cut worked out last time. She's all about feedback and tailoring the style to fit your lifestyle. Not only that, but Ivonne has also empowered me to really let the natural me shine through by showing me how to style my curly hair. She's always armed with great insight on how to care for my tresses, on top of just being plain fun to talk to. I have lived in LA for almost three years. In that time, I've been to over 11 salons in order to keep my faux-blonde locks looking oh-la-la-blonde. I can't commit to a colorist. Why? Because the city abounds with mediocre colorists who like to overcharge nice young ladies. I have now, however, found Mimi and with Mimi I will stay. She touched up my roots today and needed extra dye to do it because frankly, I came in with a rat's nest. She charged me $60 for that. My hair turned out a spun gold color that I am happy with. Then she popped my cherry and gave me my first Brazilian Blow Out. Let's get real here, folks. My hair is naturally wavy and frizzy. What does this mean, aside from the fact that I have bad genes? Right. My hair often looks like a scraggle-fest party and everyone's invited. The blow out has smoothed my locks and while I know they won't be this razor straight after I was them, the frizz should stay away for months. Mimi has impeccable taste, used to work out of the historic Biltmore hotel and did not try and sell me products I don't need. She also let me work on my laptop without forcing conversation on me, as some stylists do. I am a workaholic, what can I say. AND. She offered me wine from the San Antonio Winery and I indeed accepted. I had two glasses, enjoyed them immensely and am well aware of the fact that none of my past paltry stylists ever deigned to offer me such libations. I was in LA last weekend for a dear friend's wedding. The hubby and I used AirBnB.com to rent a fabulous loft in downtown. Instead of dragging all my hair tools out to LA for the weekend, I decided to find a salon that could do my hair for me. Thanks to Yelp, I discovered that Salon on Main was within walking distance of our temporary digs. I read through their services online and decided on the "Pamper Me Service" (scalp treatment + deep conditioning + blowout). I was easily able to book an appointment online (love that!) with Brandi. They were super nice when I arrived a tad late for my appointment and Brandi soon began the transformation of my unwashed, frizzy hair. The scalp treatment was amazing and my dry hair really needed to deep conditioning. But the star of the show was the blowout. Brandi was able to give me Farrah Fawcett hair with just her brush and blow dryer. Amazing. I walked out of there looking like a million bucks! And the best part is that my hair looked sleek and shiny for my entire LA weekend. If I was a LA local I would sign up for their blow out program, where you get 6 blow outs for the price of 5, or as Brandi told me a slightly discounted 5. read more

I decided to come back and get my hair done. I believe my stylist was called "Stephanie". (I'm writing this review almost a month after I went in) First off, when she was washing my hair, she gave me a mini-scalp massage. That was the most pleasant surprise EVER. I'm a sucker for scalp massages. Right away, I knew that this appointment was going to be good. She meticulously trimmed my bangs until they were exactly the way I wanted. It didn't take too long to do the rest of my hair, as I've had short hair for a while now. No complaints on how the rest of my hair turned out! I am not giving this place 5 stars because I left feeling nickeled and dimed. Veronica did my mani pedi(she has great reviews and I needed to splurge). I was disappointed when she told me that I had only booked a basic pedicure but she didn't scrub my feet!! Like what?! Huh? Omg!! That was only included in the deluxe package. I have been getting pedicure for over 15 years to a broad spectrum of places and they ALL include that as part of the basic pedicure. Ok I let her do her thing and then did my manicure. She is amazing at what she does and I have a feeling she does not agree with this policy of the "deluxe" pedicure but is too professional to say anything. I am still bummed about this and I simply won't go get a pedicure there anymore. I can't wait to see how she does my hair! read more

I got my nails done by Veronica for the first time a few weeks ago. I had gotten fake tips before somewhere else with gel which were terrible and crooked. Fortunately Veronica did an awesome job in removing them and making my nails pretty and natural again! She is a perfectionist and makes sure everything is exactly how you want it to be. Plus she is an awesome girl and fun to talk to! The service is great, everyone is very nice and courteous and you never be without water or a cup of their great coffee. read more

I recently had an appointment with John of Salon on Main and am so glad to have been able to have John make me go blonde! Finding the right colorist is always such a struggle but John made everything very clear as he was going to the process and gave tips on how to keep my hair looking and feeling healthy. He also fixed my haircut because I guess my last hair stylist has been cutting a certain part in an awkward way but he was able to fix it the best he could. The 3 hours in the chair did not feel like 3 hours because John made me feel welcome at his salon and I got an awesome blonde outcome! Thanks! Totally would recommend. read more

I came in and was greeted with a warm welcome, and the crew totally made me feel at home. Stefanie Salinas was my stylist, and she did me justice. After a busy stressful week, she gave me a very relaxing shampoo and scalp massage. I wanted to put her in my pocket with me, as I wished I could have that kind of treatment all the time! Stefanie took her time to assure that every strand of hair was cut precisely so. I left feeling like a new woman, and now I recommend Salon on Main to all my girlfriends.
