Salon Rouge is the best! The prices are great in a high-rent part of town and the stylists are terrific too! I go to Marco Cardenas and he always does a fantastic job on my hair! He listens to what I ask for, never rushes through an appointment and goes above and beyond. I have very curly hair and it always comes out looking great! He does my cut and color. Sometimes Marco will surprise me and blow dry my hair straight just for fun. I am always surprised at how quickly he can get my very curly hair straight and smooth! Don't hesitate to try Marco for a cut and color. His salon is also offering the Brazilian Blowout which is supposed to be great for your hair. read more

Thank goodness for this salon. They don't charge an arm and a leg (like other salons in this neighborhood) and do a good job. Not at all pretentious, but very nice salon. Their staff is very personable with a great vibe. The salon was recommended by a friend who loves it, and it's hard to find a stylist who does longer cuts on a guy, so I gave it a shot. I had an appointment for 1:00. There didn't seem to be a receptionist, just stylists, so there was no one to check in with when I got there around 12:45. One of the stylists said hi to me when I came in. I sat and waited, and watched as every stylist sat a new customer without any of them saying another word to me. At around 1:15, I gave up and left. I know salons can get busy, and I don't mind waiting a little when I know what's going on, but without any acknowledgment from the staff, I decided to move on. While I can't say anything about their work, based on the service, I would not recommend. read more

I love this place and have been going here for years. You can't beat $45 for a cut and style, and I have very long and thick hair. Marco, the owner, is so much fun and makes me feel like a friend he has known for years. I'm not sure I would go there for coloring, but for a cut and/or style- I love it. I am writing this review because of my second visit to this location because they have earned my money and my business and I can't imagine going anywhere else to get my hair styled. Bases upon my needs and style I was paired with Brittney. I am so happy I was. Brittney provided me with the most professional haircut I have ever received. I'd been having my hair done at another salon for 12 years and really needed a change. I live near this salon and saw their clients coming out with gorgeous color work everyday so I decided to give it a try. I asked Marco to take my grey roots/copper hair to something blond and he did an amazing job. Everyone at the salon was so genuinely friendly and the place is clean and comfortable. Marco made me feel so confident in his ability to hear me - and to use his amazing skills to make the change I was thinking of in a way that's good for my hair. It was a big change with allover highlights then base then cut and blowout but *quite* reasonable in cost. My hair looks amazing - and healthy ... and as one friend said, so natural! This is my first ever Yelp review but I was compelled to write because of my fantastic experience with Coralie at Salon Rouge. I went in and she could see from my hair and sense from my attitude that I needed a change when I was really just there for a basic trim. After discussing it, she recommended a style that was a major departure from my norm but her experience and professionalism made me feel comfortable with it. The cut turned out to be pretty darn short (a modern shag) and super hip; perfect for my shape face, career and age. She showed me how to style it in detail so I wasn't left hanging. I left there with high spirits, a sassy new haircut (also received a ton of compliments) and a new outlook. I would have never made such a drastic change with just any stylist, I just new I was in good hands with Coralie because she has the know how and experience to do it. Her confidence rubbed off on me. If yelp allowed zero stars, that's what I'd give Marco. He did a decent job on my highlights but my haircut is the absolute worst I've ever received! I got this haircut 2 years ago and am literally still trying to grow it out! I have very long thick hair and wanted him to cut some layers into my hair so it didn't lay so flat. He said he wanted to try a new technique he just learned, parting my hair into the shape of a star, holding the bulk of my hair over my head and literally just chopped. I'm missing chunks of hair on the sides that are taking forever to even out. I obviously never went back there but what prompted me to write this review after 2 years is that I still look in the mirror and hate what he did... AFTER 2 YEARS! I've actually never written such a negative yelp review because I don't want to affect anyone's livelihood but I hope he reads this and never tries this star technique again. I would have been better off handing a pair of scissors to my worst enemy. read more

I Love Salon Rouge! I have been coming here since 2006, when my roomies and I saw a girl on the Street with Amazing hair, and she told us she went to Salon Rouge. I started seeing a girl there who did a great job. A year later, she moved to the suburbs, and I remembered thinking the guy who worked at the chair next to her was HILARIOUS, and he did a really great job on his clients as well. Well, my roomies and I started to see Justin, and I have been a client of his for Years now! I always laugh and have the best experience when he does my hair. He just "gets" what I want for my cut and color without me even having to explain myself. i'm wondering if maggie is confusing salon rouge with another salon... her experience just doesn't seem to jive. salon rouge is not only affordable but friendly. i've never been there and experienced any negative vibes from stylists or customers. when i first started scouting out places to live in chicago, many years ago, i stumbled upon salon rouge (which was still a new business then & you didn't have to schedule appts weeks in advance) & the fabulous coralie. since then, i've moved out of the windy city but still remain faithful! no one cuts hair (or colors) like coralie! she's great at knowing what cut will work with what types of hair, face shapes, etc... i give her lots of freedom to do whatever she wants knowing i'll always get something fun & perfect for my personality & hair type! & her cuts are walking advertisements - i get so many compliments, at one point, half my graduate program was styled by coralie!!! coralie is definitely worth the airfare back to chicago! read more

I've been going to Ethan here for 6 years and I can't recommend him enough. One thing I love about Ethan is he never cuts off more hair than you ask for, and he never tries to pressure you into something more 'interesting' or 'edgy' than you want. This the person you want to see if you are growing out your hair or bangs. His cuts always look great as they grow out and last a good amount of time. Coralie is the best. My color always looks natural, and we even change it throughout the year. The cuts also grow out really, really well. I recently did a review on the Halo Couture extensions I got from Salon Rouge in Chicago for my fans yesterday (the views are still going up) here is my review! This is THE WORST salon I have ever been to! I would NEVER recommend this salon to any of my friends, family, netowrk or even fans. This salon has the WORST customer service. I called the salon 3 weeks ago in regards to their Halo Extenstions which was order off of haircouture.com. They are one of the few salons that is a distributes the product. The woman I spoke with told me how it works & said I needed to set up a consultation. I called them on a Wednesday and spoke with a man named Ethan, he set up my consult for that exact day and told me that Coralie who was their extension expert was not their that day so I was going to see Jessica. I get there around 6:30 pm and saw Jessica. They had me try on a blonde halo extension and she didn't really know all the facts to the product. She didn't even know the correct prices. I looked it up online in front of her and the prices on lines were $100 cheaper than what the salon was pricing it at. She corrected herself and had to call Coralie for advice. She used a swatch to match my hair color and ordered 1B. Keep in my she is the hair expert. I know nothing about hair and as a new client would have put my faith and trust in a licensed stylist. It took 2 days for my extensions to arrive. I got there on a Friday and she put it on my head. I thought it looked great. I told her it didn't really match and the extensions she ordered was 20" not the 16" I wanted so she tried cutting the extensions to blend it with my hair. I paid a lot of money for these keep in mind. I left with the extensions on from the salon. The next day I wore them so many people told me the extensions didn't even match my hair color #SuperEmbarrassed I texted Coralie and Jessica was the one who replied and basically said it was my problem not theirs and that I have to call the website they ordered my extensions from. Jessica wouldn't even give me the order number or any sort of receipt number to go off by as a reference when I called them company. I called Hair Couture and stated the salon should have told me the hair was nonrefundable and can't exchange the hair once it has been opened. Jessica nor anyone from the salon told me that. So at the end of the day I paid $380 for useless hair extensions that didn't match my hair. The hair company saw my FB live review and decided to give me a FREE set of extensions that matched my hair due to the poor customer service Salon Rouge in Chicago offered. Please don't let this happen to you and go to a different Salon. ORANGE HAIR! DO NOT GO HERE! I went in today with dark brown hair and a photo of Mila Kunis just wanted a little bit of color for the winter. I walked out with orange hair on the top of my head that is fried and looks like straw. Brittany should not have a license to do color if that is even the case and the owner Cora Lee and Brittany wanted to make excuses after the fact. Thanks a lot. Don't understand why it's so difficult to look at a photo and get the hair kind of close. Didn't plan on orange hair. Would never go here unless you don't mind fried orange hair. I have seen Celinda twice based on an initial recommendation from the hotel I was staying. She cut my hair and has colored it as well. I live in Florida but I travel now back to Chicago to see her. She has great ideas and personal style and has given my long hair a new lease on life. I trust her instincts and that she will always deliver a first rate cut and color. my hair was dyed pink, then black over white. then dyed again, all within a short period of time. of course, my hair fell out and the owner, Marco, insisted this was my fault. He also charged me for each fix. By the way, I did not want pink or two tone hair. My scalp was burned another time and I still have the bald spot. The hair never grew back. They never apologize. Coralie dyed my hair one time and skipped an entire spot on the side of my head - charged full price again. They get testy if they do not receive tips, regardless of the quality of work. Better not let Marco cut your hair either. read more

After reading most of the reviews, I decided to try this salon out since it's close to my apartment. The only good thing was they fit me in same day for a haircut when I called to schedule an appointment. The minute I walked in, nobody greeted me, and continued not to do so after I hung my coat until i stood up and stared at the stylists looking for help. The guy who was supposed to check me in was hanging a clock and wouldn't help me until he was finished and once he did, was not very friendly. My stylist, Justin, seemed rather nice, had 6-7 years of experience at the salon and asked me what I wanted done. I wanted about 2 inches cut with a few layers. He finished with giving me a blowout which frankly was NOT worth the extra $20... I could've given myself a much better one at home. The worst part was the next day when I decided to straighten my hair... I had SO many little pieces that were half an inch longer than the rest of my hair (these were not layers, these were pieces that he did NOT cut to the right length of my base layer!) I would never recommend someone going to this salon, even with the cheaper prices. It's far better to pay more, otherwise you'll be getting out a pair of your own scissors to even out your hair or paying extra to get it fixed at another salon. Save yourself the hassle. read more
