It costs more than a Penney to shop here, so false advertising FTW. This salon is inside the JC Penney of New Braunfels and Barbie was checking out their prices and products when we were shopping in the store, and said it was pretty competitive and not bad. We'll consider coming here if we need salon stuff done when between SATX and ATX. This JC Penney is located as part of a huge strip-type Mall at New Braunfels between San Antonio and Austin right off of the highway on the east side of the interstate 35 so come and check it out if you're looking for a department store when you're down this way. I went in yesterday to get partial foil with alternate color on top She trimmed my bangs like I asked She also trimmed everywhere else (didn't ask) and put in a hair treatment (didn't ask). Went to pay and it was 180.00 !!!! I about shit! Vanessa should ask clients before charging them for services with an up charge. She was very nice but 180.00? Nobody even noticed my new hair color.. I keep telling people so they say something ..help justify all the money I spent! LOL! Ask stylist the cost before you come here and also if there will be any additional charges. I work for tips as well, but I did not leave her one because I felt very cheated and deceived. read more

I had been going to JC Penney's salon for a while. Emily, one of the stylists there always did my hair perfectly. I had an appointment scheduled one day and when they called to confirm they gave a different name I called and asked for Emily and was told there was no one named Emily who worked there. I asked for the manager and was told Emily had left and I had been scheduled with another stylist. I asked why I was not notified and was told that's how they do it. I cancelled the appointment. Move forward to today, I decided to give them another try. I went online to schedule a same day appointment. On arrival Celia said I had booked my appointment with the manager and she wouldn't be doing my hair, that she only does a few. (Well she shouldn't have been on the list) Celia, said she would be. She had a snotty attitude from the beginning. I tried to explain what I wanted and she said "I already know I read Emily's notes" She then proceeded to bring me a jacket rather than a cape which was obviously too small and said well you'll only have it for a little while. I took it off and said no I prefer a cape. Then she tells me it was going to be $120 just for a color nothing else. Which was not what was listed on the booking site. She tried to argue with me that Emily charged me $130. Umm I know what I paid!!!! $100 + a $30 tip. No wonder Emily left these people are anything but professional read more

I went to the JCPenney salon at creekside to get my hair done by Desiree, I picked her because she had an hour time slot and was the more expensive, maybe/hopefully more knowledgeable stylist. I hadn't had my hair cut in a year and I knew pretty much what I wanted. I brought a photo as well. Desiree talked with me about what I wanted and then she walked me back to the bowl to get my hair washed. She used ice cold water to wash my hair, which was a first for me. Then we went back to the chair and she started cutting. I really liked where it was heading at first, then she turned the chair to the side where I couldn't see in the mirror and continued cutting. I did ask for some layers, but - what she did was absolutely awful. She cut short layers about the length of my bangs on both sides of the front part of my hair, and did the same layers all around my crown. The entire crown of my hair is about 3 inches long. I told her to please not cut the front shorter than the back, I really like my hair to be longer in the front. I asked for angled bob, but not super blunt on the ends, so it didn't flip up. But then she cut these " layers?! " when she turned me around to show me , I gasped and I immediately told her I didn't expect that type of layer. I wanted some movement - not chunks. If I had been facing the mirror I would have said something because I know I do not like my hair so short like that around my face....I said it's so short in the front - she was like "well you did ask for layers and I guess your hair is thinner on the sides than in back. Shouldn't she have realized that, by holding onto my hair and looking at it? The whole appointment took about 20 mins so she didn't take any time to give me a good haircut - definitely not worth $55. She knew I was unhappy but didn't offer to try to change anything (blending better or anything) (I realize she can't add the hair back -) Anyway my hair is absolutely butchered. I paid , I tipped her, and I went to go cry in my car. I have no idea how long it's going to take to grow out this horrible haircut. Immediately after - I went to great clips of all places where the sweetest girl helped me from having a meltdown- she cut the layer areas in the front with texturizing scissors to ease the bluntness of the layered areas so the blend better. It's still bad, but a tiny bit better. Time to start wearing hats. read more

We were walk ins, not really expecting for the salon to have any openings for my two girls and we were right, but Shanize happen to walk in early for her shift that day and offered to take care of us. This was our first time trying the JCP salon and were taken such good care of by Shanize. This was also my little girls first hair cut and she was pretty nervous but Shanize went above and beyond to make her feel comfortable and at ease. read more

Don't go here. The chance of you getting a good haircut has dwindled since all the talented hair dressers couldn't stand management and left... I got a pixie there and it was the worst haircut, I cried and got it fixed elsewhere. read more

Went in for a trim and Briana actually trimmed my hair which is so rare. The salon is clean an everyone there is very nice and professional. I highly recommend. Briana has since moved across the way to the ULTA salon. Still gives great service. read more

The salon in New Braunfels: I've had nothing but terrible experiences with the results of my hair requests.. in December I went for a perm.. it was not it was straight and frizzy the manager was nice enough to give me a refund .. I've Always gotten my hair done at Penney's in different states all my life.. so I decided to come back this past week and give it a second shot .. wanted a color and cut ,showed a pic .. now the girl was nice and I guess she tried I asked for a master stylist so I wouldn't get screwed again we'll never fails .. she curls it and I'm like omg I love it thank you so much .. I get home and I knew it wasn't right she cut my bangs way to short it should of been highlighted and low lighted I SHOWED A PICTURE if u can't do it don't she gave me one color BRASS I look terrible my bangs arnt even even it's so bad and it sucks im embarrassed to go back cuz I don't want to seem like a person complaining cuz of the perm or not perm and to make it worse this is the kicker.. my daughter got her hair done I didn't know where she went I thought she did it herself cuz it's orange brass and when I had her bring me a charger while I was getting my hair done she said that the lady is the one who did hers and my daughters hair looks so bad she said she showed her a picture and it's nothing like that so we think the only thing she knows wut to do it just pull color out and add toner leaving u brassy and orange it sucks my daughter paid 300$ I paid 250 $ mine was including shampoo and stuff that I bought and her tip. It's funny how thy curl ur hair and it looks good when u get home ur like wut the f*%# is this .. so sad I will never go there again so now my daughter and I both have to spend more money somewhere else for fix a MASTER MISTAKE read more

I went here again just today earlier, had my hair trimmed by JESSE. She had twice now taken such good care of my hair I love it. The slightest tangle she'd gently comb thru it and asked me if that was ok with the pressure she was putting on to get the tangle out. She's the best hair stylist I've had in YEARS!! I had a specific hair cut I wanted and she NAILED it!! I am very, very satisfied with the customer service! I also have my hair colorist Blyss who takes care of my color needs, ALSO just amazing! Don't go here! My hair was cut uneven - looks awful. Service overall was poor and they're sneaky about jacking the price up.

TL;DR Basically, don't go there. The receptionist is rude, they will change your appointment times even if you already made them online, and overcharge you (or at the very least, not disclose all the charges at the time). I am very disappointed with this particular JC Penney Salon. I use to think that the JC Penney Salon's were a few steps above a walk-in place, but this one is not. Not only is it more expensive, but oddly enough, the customer service was worse. Here is what happened: I spent about 25 minutes on the salon website checking dates and times to make sure I could make two haircut and color appointments and two spa pedicure appointments for myself and my daughter. I had the appointments so while one of us was getting their hair cut, the other was getting her pedicure. It was to begin at 10am and end at 2pm. I chose the JC Penney Salon because I have been at other JC Penney Salon's before, and all were not just a hair cutting place, but an experience. They would get you drinks, talk to you, treat you like a VIP, regardless of what you are getting done. Not this place! This was far from an experience. It was terrible customer service. I get to the salon as it opened and was actually the first customer in line. I tell the receptionist my name and she looked at me and says we tried to get ahold of you but your number does not work. I asked for the number and I did accidentally inverse two numbers (that is my fault). I asked if that would be a problem, and she said no. (That's all she said about it). Then she said that the first person who would cut our hair was running late and we needed to wait. Not a problem, I figured that was what they were calling about. Good part: The person who worked on my daughter's hair was obviously in training, but she did a spectacular job! She asked many questions and made sure the color would work with what my daughter wanted. I sit and wait for my pedicure which was to start soon. I sit in the reception area for about 30 minutes and at no time does the receptionist tell me that they changed the times of all of my appointments. Not when I checked in, and not when I was waiting. I finally went up to the desk about 7 minutes after my pedicure was scheduled and said, "excuse me, but I have a pedicure scheduled for now. Will it be much longer?" The receptionist looked at me and basically shouted "No." Not, "I'm sorry, there was a mistake with the scheduling." But she scolded me as if it was my fault. Then she pointed out the person who was supposed to be doing my pedicure and said she was scheduled to do it but she can't. (There is so much wrong with that statement that I will just start with the obvious). So what time is my pedicure? It was scheduled for over 2 hours later. Actually, all my appointments other than the first one were moved to between over 2 hours to over 5 hours later than I originally scheduled. The receptionist continued to scold me as if all of that was my fault. She repeatedly said that the website is wrong. How would I know? Nowhere on the site does it say that a customer must call to check on the appointments. It's 2018! I figured they know how to use a web-based schedule assistant, and if they don't, then somewhere on the site they should really say that this is an estimate and a customer must call to confirm. After I told her to just cancel all the other appointments, then she finally moves and tries to at least fit in my hair appointment. I debate this because I am pretty mad at this point, but the receptionist finally got back to me and said that the girl who colored my daughter's hair would color mine. Okay, fine. She did a great job on my daughter, so I figure, why not? She colored my hair and another girl (the one who could not do my pedicure but now had time to cut my hair ?!?) cut it (that's all I had done and all that I told them to do). I will say that they did a good job. I paid and left because I just wanted to get out of there. Only to look at my receipt and realize that they charged me an extra $15 for something I never had done. They also did not reveal the extra prices we would be paying (for long and premium color) but I expected those charges. I'm sure they are written down somewhere so legally they are fine. But great, or even fair, customer service would have had the technicians tell us the added prices as we did things. So much for the mom/daughter day we had planned relaxing and having a fun time. It just is not worth the price to go there and be treated as if the customer should know about system issues and to be blamed for the Salon's mistakes. To set the scene, I cry every time I get a haircut because I'm usually unhappy, so I put it off until I can't take it anymore. JCP Salon gave me an appointment the same day and I didn't have to wait at all to be helped. Gaby was my stylist and she took the time to ask what I wanted and gave me suggestions for my hair type (thin) and then went to work. She gave me exactly what I wanted and I absolutely love it. I won't be putting haircuts off to the last minute any more. read more

I went in for a perm, and Sue did an absolutely amazing job! I got a pre-perm trim, a great job on the perm (and I've have many terrible experiences), and a post-perm cut. She rolled my hair better than I have ever seen it done before, taking much care to get every strand perfectly in the roller so I had no kinked ends; and there was no rushing me out of the chair as quickly as she can get the next customer in it. If you are looking for a cosmetologist that will take the time to do whatever you ask, the right way; go see Sue. I won't be looking for the right cosmetologist anymore! I came in for a bayalage and did not like it. It was not blended well. I have a very busy schedule and absolutely did not want to wait an entire week and go to school and work with the way my hair was so I had no choice but to find a better salon to fix the color. I called JcPenny and spoke with the female manager, forgot what her name was, explained the situation to her and she refused to give me a refund because I had already gotten it fixed elsewhere and would not even give me a partial refund for just the botched color. Bottom line is I was a very unhappy customer and the manager handled the situation unprofessionally. This use to be my go-to salon but not anymore. read more
