Before I came on vacation to Bradenton, I had ruined my hair! I colored it myself and put the wrong color in it and when I tried to fix it, Nothing... The color didn't change at all. I thought I was stuck with this horrible hair color.. I found Lisa at Salon Uptown... Downtown, and explained what I had done. So she looked at pictures of what I looked like before I messed it up. She fixed it PERFECT!!! She did such a great job with my highlights and cut!! She even explained how hair coloring works and how to touch up my roots later on my own from home. I cannot give enough stars to this salon, Lisa is the most knowledgeable creative hairdresser I've ever been to, she listens Intently to everything you ask then follows through with precision. She helped me accomplish going Gray which I've been trying to do for years, my hair now looks exactly as I've always wanted it to look after going to Lisa for just 4 visits! The online booking is pretty awesome, as it means no phone-tag on either side. Lisa being open and available on New Year's Eve was also a major thing; I'm surprised, to be honest, given the quality of service, that she wasn't booked through, but perhaps the online booking whooshes over the head of the normal Bradenton resident? I don't know. The salon is easy to find, though parking can be a bit awkward (there's not much space between the road and the parking spaces). Oddly, the window-signage doesn't show up on google's street view, but rest assured, it's there and there'll be a board outside when the salon's open. The salon proper is rather nice, design-wise, though I didn't see the nail booths in the back area. I went for a downdo for a swing dance New Year's party. Lisa was very friendly, made good conversation, and was willing to look at and discuss various styles to see which would best suit me and the outfit I was planning to wear. After testing to make sure my hair would hold the curls, she spent about an hour and a half making sure that the style was what I wanted and fighting a few stubborn curls. It looked great -- not utterly perfect, but I never expect that of my hair and I'm not sure it'd actually DO a Dita style without flyaways! -- and I asked if she had time to do makeup. She did, and I got a great many compliments on it and the hair at the party/dance. She spent a lot of time on it, beyond what she had to or had estimated, which I greatly appreciated, and she got the period/vintage look down pat when I hadn't provided makeup examples. Cost-wise, especially with the Yelp deal which was up at the time of this appointment, it was great. I'd have paid full without a qualm. read more

I met Lisa through a groupon gift from my sister as I had recently moved to Sarasota from New England. I used that Groupon for a color and cut. My hair was a bit "ashy" but as per usual it faded out to a great color that blended well with my natural plot. The cut was superb! As luck would have it, Covid-19 shut everything down shortly after. I had a TERRIBLE experience here with Lisa. I thought it would be good based on previous reviews. I requested a color, cut, and style. As she colored my hair, I asked several times to try not to get my ears and forehead covered in dye. She barely made the effort so I ended up trying to clean it up the best I could resulting in my hands getting dye on them. Throughout the cut and blow dry I asked SEVERAL times to be gentle because she was tugging on my hair hard enough to jerk my head with it. She didn't listen. This is where the appointment gets worse, she doesn't finish my drying my hair and gives me the alternative to leave or wait until she cuts others customers hair!!! She tried to blame me for having long hair and then guilt trip me other customers waiting ! It was unbelievably unprofessional! I left with half way done hair and dye on my skin! Had an appointment here for some highlights. I had made the appointment a good 2 weeks in advance. I went in and had to wait for her to cut two gentlemans hair before she could cut mine, this was after my highlights were done and washed. She cut my hair in 2 seconds, it was a mediocre job. I barely have any layers. Asked for long bangs and got 20 strands of hair on each side cut. My hair is gross, highlights look cheap and fake. It was so bad I had to dye it back to brown the next day. Location is ghetto, entire place needs a makeover. Not a happy customer. Go to inspirations in sarasota on Main Street instead. Better location, better service and cheaper! read more

I had a great experience at salon uptown downtown. I came in for a 30 minute haircut and as soon as Dani saw me she said we'd need an hour and a half. I got a deep conditioning treatment and a fantastic cut as well as tips for what products to use with my hair type. Even though she spent 3x more time with me, the price of my haircut didn't go up at all. You will definitely have a great experience if you get your hair cut here. read more

These reviews are in no way accurate. The salon was filthy, the pedicure chair was broken, and everything appeared to be under construction. There was hair everywhere including the toilet seat. Unsure if it's dog or human hair at that. The pedicure was way under par, and the staff wasn't your typical spa staff. I have long hair and for any one who has long hair, you know it is not easy to find a stylist who not only likes to do long hair, but is passionate about hair. Danielle at Salon Uptown downtown has taken me from almost black to a beautiful blonde without harsh processes and ruining my hair. Recently, she introduced me to Paul Mitchel Mirror Smooth products. I already had product that worked well, so was hesitant about something new (remember the long hair!). As usual, I walked out of the salon feeling beautiful and my hair silky smooth, flying in the wind.... and then as it always does, the next day, it began to feel swollen and dry again, especially on the ends. The top was almost too silky smooth. Since I had the shampoo and conditioner at up, I decided to give this stuff a try. I wasn't completely convinced with the 2nd wash, but the more I wash it, the better results I am seeing. I'm still having some dryness on my ends, and trying a different heavy conditioner in this area in hopes it will all balance out. Danielle has been doing my hair for almost 3 years, and I won't have anyone else touch it. She is AMAZING, and I continue to have people tell me I have beautiful hair. We've just bought a condo in Bradenton, where we'll spend all winter, so I needed to find a local hair stylist. I searched online, and found Salon Uptown's website. I was immediately impressed by their website, which allowed me to see all of their available appointments and to schedule one. First the website showed me the available services and the approximate time needed for each. Then I was able to book appointments, using my email address and/or my cellphone number. One day before my appointment, I received an email reminder. (I could have received a text reminder, but preferred the email reminder.) I arrived 20 minutes early for my appointment. Lisa was very friendly, noted she was just finishing up with another client, and actually took me 15 minutes before my scheduled time, which was great. Since this was my first appointment, she asked me how long it had been since my last haircut, and then to describe what I'd like done. She followed my instructions "to the T," and did a really nice job. Because she started early and was also quite efficient, I was finished twenty minutes early. A great experience all around.
