Can I give Rinia 6 stars? When I walked in I was immediately greeted and offered tea or water. After about 10mins, Rinia got started on me and gave me an incredible scalp massage, shampooing, then made sure she knew exactly what I wanted and gave me that. I don't know how I have yet to write a review for Salon V! Hands down my favorite hair salon in Lincoln Park, possibly the whole city. My hair is pretty simple: it's straight, I don't get it colored and usually I just need a quick trim. For a basic woman's haircut in Chicago, you're looking at $50-$75 MINIMUM without tip. When my hair is pretty low-maintenance, I feel silly paying those prices for such a simple cut. Salon V is decently priced, and every time I go there I leave with a great cut. The stylists listen to what you want and give great suggestions - to which I am always appreciative of, being a hair amateur. I don't even have one specific stylist, I use anyone that is available at the time I'm looking for and I'm never disappointed. As other Yelpers have mentioned, it would be helpful to have an online reservation system for ease of booking. But, aside from that I love Salon V and will continue coming! read more

I LOVE trying out low-risk salon services (blowouts, deep conditioning treatments, etc) but getting a haircut is always a gamble for me. My stylist, Vivi, does lash extensions and microblading- check her out on social media, she's amazing! I figured if she can handle heavy duty stuff like that then she can definitely cut my hair. I was super pleased with the results-- she blended out some aggressive layering that a not-so-good stylist had left behind and took off the split ends without losing much length. I loved the blowout too-- lots of movement and body and it still looked good even after walking around in 90 degree heat later that day. This is an Aveda salon so all the products smell amazing. This place was hopping, and they really deserve it! I used a Gilt City voucher and sometimes you get attitude for this but everyone was super sweet. The price with the Gilt deal was extremely cheap but even at full price the services are very reasonably priced. I will 100% be back. The *only* thing I wish they would do differently is get an online booking system. My schedule often changes at the drop of a hat and it would be nice to make changes online, but I won't hold that against them! read more

I have frequented this salon for years and used to really love it. But something must have changed in the last few years. Most of the stylists have left except the amazing Rinia and lovely David. The newer stylists are quite nice. But Salon V's pricing has become wildly inconsistent and full of hidden up charges. I've tried to stay with Salon V out of loyalty but the regular pricing confusion at check out is just too debilitating. It's often $30-$50 more than expected based on previous pricing! Sorry Salon V. We'll be switching to a.Salon. More expensive on the surface but far more transparent in terms of pricing. read more

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Salon V to do the make-up and hair for my recent wedding on October 14th, 2017. The salon was well equipped and prepared to handle myself, my five bridesmaid, the Mother of the Bride and one of my sisters. They graciously set up an area in the back where we could provide food and beverages, and combined with the a small curtained off area everybody was able to get ready in privacy. It also happened to be the rainiest October day in Chicago history, but they still managed to give everyone styles that lasted the night. I had several people recommending Salon V, so I finally decided to try it out. I made an appointment with Rinia. She was great, very easy to talk to and explained the products and processes as she went through them. I just needed a simple trim and Rinia gave me exactly what I wanted/needed. The price was very good for all that was included. Immediately when I walked in they asked if I wanted any water or hot tea. Then, I sat down and we discussed what I wanted and she gave her input as well. Then she gave a very relaxing massage with some of the Aveda essential oils. She cut then washed my hair. I was super nervous before going in, just like everyone else, I have a hard time trusting people with my hair. I had no idea what to except. I went in for a hair cut, I had pretty long hair. I wanted to cut most of it for the summer. Bianca cut my hair, she's really amazing. She made sure that I was fully satisfied with the look and she did a great job! I love my hair. Today was my first time trying this Salon with Rinia...I highly recommend both. The salon was nice and clean and I felt like they were taking all the necessary safety precautions given our current situation. Rinia was a gem...I have very thick, coarse, semi wavy, mid length hair that always pulls a red tone. She listened to every request I made and was so meticulous with her craft. Could not ask for a better experience! My first appointment I called the day of and was able to get in for a cut. Katy was amazing and beyond professional. She listened to exactly what I wanted and made my hair healthier than ever! Today I returned for a complete color change. I was a box dye user (never again) and my hair was destroyed and a hot mess color wise. Katy was able to strip the color out completely without doing damage and re color. I've seen Michelle a few times and she always did a fine job cutting my hair. We do the same thing every time and it's pretty simple. Long layers and some face framing pieces. I saw her today and she said she would be trying some new "techniques" from a class she attended. She cut 6 inches off my hair (I asked for 2-3), blunt across the bottom with virtually no layers. Then proceeded to grab the front chunk of my hair and cut it completely across into full blown bangs. She laughed and called them "scary looking bangs" when she was done. Not only did I not ask for bangs, they were also uneven and when I told her that, her response was "no they're not". I think she could tell that I was unhappy and said my hair would look good under a beanie... for a $100 haircut. This was not what I asked for AT ALL. This was a horrible experience and she was completely unprofessional. Maybe other stylists are better, but would avoid Michelle. read more

Framing, Retexturizing, Highlights, Base Bump I don't know but, whatever they do it makes my wife look good. And she is happy too! Veronica and her husband Florencio (the owners)are so friendly it just makes everything easy. Most of the time when getting her hair done she wants to get in and out but, when she goes to salon V it doesn't seem to bother her. I buy my wife the Aveda candles, every time my wife sends me in for her carotene oil, because she says the Aveda ones smell so good. What impresses me the most is the staff is so well educated. David is an Aveda educator so it's sometimes hard to get an appointment with him. But I highly recommend him whether you're just in for a quick cut or full makeover he is you man. I have to say a special thanks to Meredith the queen of cut and color. Meredith is my wife's stylist. She is really talented. I take notice of my wife's hair and maybe it's my imagination, but the color and the cut seem to last longer. I think it's because she closely matches her original color but I don't know. I just hate when the tint is off you can always tell they tried to save money. That does not happen with Meredith. The highlights are caramel colored. The products they use are all natural and they look right it doesn't look like it was done. And that's the best thing about the way Meredith cuts she can make you look good without anyone knowing why you look so good I don't know if that makes sense but... Oh! Ada is not my colorist; she's my chemist. I show her a picture, and she tells me exactly the colors and processes she will use to get me there. She also tells me what maintenance will be like (i.e. touch up in x many weeks). That's when I usually change my mind and show her another picture. And she goes through this routine with me until I am excited and comfortable. What a rare experience -- to feel simultaneously excited and comfortable. We've done balayage, highlights, all over color, golden blondes, ashy blondes, and bleach. For the past couple years, Ada has changed my hair every time I've changed my mind. She is incredibly knowledgable about color, and she is approachable. Once she got a sense of my desired style, she even began bringing her own pictures to my appointments. Last time I went in, we were doing a full makeover, and Ada had already prepared the price breakdown for each of my options! I cannot say enough good things about Ada. My one star does not go to the whole Salon V. People that are working there seamed to be very nice and attentive. I really hesitated if I should write this review. But then I realized that people need to know whom they can trust when it comes to the hairdressers. I want to express my frustration with David who is working in the salon. He did a horrible job, can't even describe the level of my disappointment. I used to be blonde and all I wanted to do that day was an ombre - darken my roots a little bit, in other words shade my hair from dark to light. Instead I turned out to be a 'chestnut-red head-ish' with highlights, which I dislike the most. And all that happen despite the fact that I carefully explained to David what I wanted beforehand and showed him a bunch of photos with the exact style I was looking for. He did not seem to listen to me, I could immediately feel that he had his own idea in mind. Also, when I got back home, I noticed that my hair had light spots in multiple places. I have to assume that David noticed that too when he was blow drying my hair but he did not try to change anything. I came back later that day to Salon V for them to fix the spots. They tried to hide the spots the best they could. As a result, I had my fine hair colored TWICE in one day! read more

I had bought a $12 youswoop deal for a blowout. I saved it for a special occasion - I was going to be on stage at a show, and I wanted my hair to have movement and look good. I asked for their most experienced stylist. He normally charges $55 for a blowout, so with my swoop and a tip on the normal price, it was about $23-$25. Seemed like a pretty good price for a blow out. This, however, was the WORST blow out I have ever received. He poked and prodded forever, and put loads and loads of styling product in my hair. By the end of the blowout, my hair was a thick entangled mess - I could not even run my fingers through it. I have curly but not so coarse hair - I can run my fingers through my hair at pretty much any moment. This blowout had absolutely NO movement - I would have looked a hell of a lot better if I had just rolled out of bed and walked on stage without even taking a brush to my hair. The appointment was right before my show, so I didn't have time to go home fix my hair. I did, however, wipe off all the makeup my stylist put on me. Seriously, snobby salon attitude, from a guy no less? He nitpicked on the fact that I was wearing minimal makeup throughout my styling, and when we were done insisted in just putting some eye shadow and a touch of lipstick on me for my show. The colors he chose? Orange. Okay, orangey-pink. He claimed it went so great with my lovely brown skin. Um, no. I do not look good with orange lipstick. The show must go on, right? How did it go? It was great - I got lots of laughs, and we all had great energy. My hair, in the pictures? AWFUL. Flat and dull looking, and when I turned, it all moved in one single bunch, with all the strands sticking together. I was hairsprayed into a something horrible. It honestly looked like I had fake hair. NEVER again. Why do they have two stars instead of one? Well, 24 hours after my blowout, my hair started to look great. It loosened up and started to actually look like a blowout, and have definition. Now if I had gotten my blowout 24 hours before my show, it all would have been peachy. read more

A little over a year ago, I went to Salon V to have a horrendous cut and color (done by someone not associated with Salon V...) fixed. What J. did was amazing. The best cut/color I've ever had - very flattering. Since then, it's gone waaay downhill. One of the receptionists is quite rude, over the phone and in person - and believe me, I'm not intimidated by Lincoln Park snottiness, but she was ridiculous. The stylists are far more interested in talking and goofing off with each other than paying attention to their clients - which is fine for a little while, but for the entire hour and 45 minutes I'm there? Every three weeks? Come on. And they also seem to overbook on a regular basis - I was ten minutes late one time because I couldn't find parking to save my life, and they couldn't fit me in again until three hours later. And I can't count the number of times that the stylists, but more often my own, has had another client there at the same time me as me. Unprofessional. The last three times I have been, I've tried to get a cut that will flatter my growing out bob, and J. (my once amazing stylist) has given me a cut that I've had to have fixed every time. I mean, it looked like a mullet one time. No joke. For the amount that they charge, I should be receiving better service - I definitely will not be going back. read more

Well, it's been a week since Meredith changed my life, so I suppose it's time to write a review. I had extremely long hair (down to the small of my back) and while I liked the length (cause look how cool I am, I never get a haircut) I needed a change. In the hours leading up to my appointment, I frantically emailed all of my friends pictures of shorter haircuts, breathlessly exclaiming "I'M GONNA DO THIS!" They're my friends, so they encouraged me, but as anyone who's ever chopped off her long hair knows, a big change like that can lead to serious regret. I called Salon V on a whim (and because I'm lazy and it's next door to my house) and asked for their most experienced stylist. When they booked me with Meredith, I immediately took to The Google to learn more. Turns out she was on BRAVO's Shear Genius. I never actually watched the show, but I *do* know that that's where Tabitha (in all of her bitchy blonde aussie goodness) was discovered. Instant credibility boost: CHECK. The fantastic reviews on Yelp helped too, of course. I sat down in her chair and unleashed the put-up-in-a-high-bun-while-wet cascade of weirdo crimpy mane on her, and she gasped: "It's below your boobs! That's huge!" I knew right away she appreciated and respected the length and wasn't just going to hack it off for the sake of transforming me in her chair (you know how stylists sometimes do that?) I told her I wasn't sure what I wanted and she encouraged me to keep the length since it was her first time cutting my hair. She said "you worked hard to grow it out, so give me an opportunity to cut it so you can address all the issues you have with it now" (too long, too heavy, no face-framing layers or bangs or anything) "while keeping the length." Yes! When she was done cutting, she gave me an amazing blowdrying tutorial that changed. My. Life. It saves me minutes each day (those minutes are precious when, thanks to daylight saving time, the freaking SUN ISN'T OUT YET) and makes my hair look so much better. The haircut makes me look completely different and it's not really a huge change. I'm in love with it. And Meredith. See you soon boo. read more

I am reviewing this not based on the service I received but on that which I did NOT receive. I had purchased the Youswoop coupon and in the crazy haze that has been my life in the past few months, didn't realize it expired yesterday. I just called to ask if they could still honor it. The young man who answered the phone said yes, "However...". That amounted to him saying that they can only put $12 towards the blow dry, I would have to pay the remainder, and the upgrades were no longer available. I find that quite harsh. At this point, since I refuse to pay more money (I am currently unemployed), I will not be using the coupon, which puts me out of the original $40 or whatever I paid for it. But I think it says more about the business that they are so inflexible that they are penalizing possible customers for being one or two days behind. read more

Update: After I visited Salon V for a correction on 7/21 and still was not pleased with the tone of the color and unevenness of it, I called for an emergency appointment at my old salon on 7/22 and they immediately saw how yellow and brassy the new highlights were and said I should have insisted that the stylist at Salon V apply a toner. I had asked her to, however she told me that she thought the color was beautiful and didn't need a toner. NOW my color looks great, post-toner at another salon. Again, I'm not a complainer. I have never gone back to a salon for a correction in 15 years of highlighting it. While Salon V isn't outrageously expensive, with tip I spent almost $150 and for that amount I wouldn't expect to need to go back for a correction and THEN go to another salon for a toner. Based on the other reviews here, I think my experience was unique and not representative of the salon as a whole, but I am annoyed that I had to spend 3 salon visits to touch up the roots of my simple blonde highlights. read more

I really want to like this salon. I went for the first time in July/August and received an "okay" haircut from a stylist that was promised to be great. She insisted on doing my hair curly instead of blowing drying it straight like I had originally requested. If anyone knows anything about curly hair, they know that it is extremely hard to tame and style. I walked out of that salon pissed off and with my hair looking flat and awful. No one except the owner of curly hair knows how to style curly hair, even great hairdressers that I have gone to just do not know what they are doing when it comes to styling curly hair curly. After some convincing by a friend, I decided to give the salon a second shot. I went back to the same stylist a couple months later, and she actually styled my hair straight and it looked pretty good. A couple weeks later, I noticed my layers were really overlapping and not symmetrical at all. none of the layers in my hair were matching up and my hair was starting to get balky and weighted. This girl had NOT cut my hair well at all. Nonetheless, I keep hearing great things about Amanda and Teddy. If I come back to this salon, it will be to one of them, and not the other person that did my hair. Nothing against her, I just did not care for the haircut and really was not happy. I can't believe nobody has reviewed this place yet... It's got to be one of the best salons in Chicago. I usually have my hair cut at Vidal Sassoon downtown. While I've never had a bad cut there, my stylists were always fairly uninspired and left me with beautiful albeit boring looks. I decided recently to take my hair from black to a much lighter caramel colour and of course, my hair was quite fried and unhappy afterwards. I tried to get in with a couple of stylists I liked but was unable to, and didn't know what do do. A few weeks prior one of Salon V's stylists had been in my work and given me her card, so I decided to take a walk down Sheffield and see if she was in. I'm very glad she was. As soon as I opened the door, a lovely guy welcomed me and asked what he could help me with. I hoped there were appointments still, and he assured me that Meredith could fit me in. I was sort of worried because the place looked rather upscale and I'm a heavily tattooed 'hipster', but everyone was very pleasant. The person who had greeted me turned out to be a salon assistant. He started by giving me an amazing head massage then taking me to be shampooed. While my conditioner was sitting in my hair he gave me a hand massage (with amazing smelling lotion) and then after my conditioner was rinsed out he took me to the chair where Meredith was waiting. I have to tell you, I've never been so impressed with a hairdresser in my life. I showed her some pictures of what I wanted and told her that I'd like to keep as much length as possible. I have fine hair and wanted volume and she explained how she was going to cut my hair to do that. The cut itself was fantastic- EXACTLY what I had wanted her to do and she kept a good deal of length. She showed me what brushes to use and how to style my hair to keep it looking the way she did it. After she'd dried and styled my hair the assistant gave me a complimentary makeup touch up so that I would look my best leaving the salon (they do this for all their clients which I think is wonderful). They weren't pushy about their product (which is all Aveda) but I took home an intensive conditioner (I already use Aveda shampoos and conditioners). The haircut was amazing. I even showered today and restyled it and it still looks fantastic and full of body. I thought my hair was ruined and Meredith fixed it. I paid about the same as I would at Vidal Sassoon ($100 for the cut, but as a new client I received 20% off) and the environment was much more pleasant and the haircut far more avant-garde. I cannot recommend Salon V enough; I won't be going anywhere else for my haircuts from now on. read more

My friend Elaine raved about Veronica, so I gave salon v a try and I am a fan. First of all, Elaine and I are both Asian, and it is NOT EASY to cut Asian hair, especially mine. I've had my hair butchered by so many people. Its thick, there is so much of it, and there are weird random waves. My last cut with my normal girl went pretty bad, she over layered my hair, so I was ready for a change. Veronica is extremely patient and caring, she listened to me ramble on about my hair. She truly puts her clients first. My first cut with her, she did exactly want I wanted, she thinned out my hair and layered it just perfectly. The second time I went (just a couple weeks ago), I gave her "permission" to cut my bangs, and I absolutely love it. I also had her color my hair, and she did a phenomenal job. I haven't been to salon V in a couple of months, but I have been going there for years. I am Meredith's regular. I have medium length curly hair, and if you have curly hair then you know you can't go to just anyone! Meredith cuts and styles my hair in a way that makes it manageable for me. Often I've come in with pictures, and she always nails it. On top if that she explains how she's styling my hair so that I can replicate the style. i cannot stress enough how much Salon V was my SAVING GRACE tonight!!! Long story short, i have my engagement photos tomorrow, and like any other bride, I wanted to get a really nice mani/pedi. so i had scheduled an appointment for one for this evening at K. Paige salon, which is across the street from Salon V. Again, long story short, K. Paige screwed up my appointment (you can read my review I wrote on them), and i was left on the street in hysterics because there was NO way i could take my engagement photos tomorrow in the condition that my hands and feet were in! After finally calming down a bit, i crossed sheffield hoping i could find a salon that would take me at last minute - that's when i saw Salon V. i FOR SURE thought they would never take a walk-in, and almost didn't want to go in because i didn't want to get mad again. But i decided to try, and i am soooo glad i did!!! The guy at the desk was super nice and while they couldn't fit me in for a full mani and a full pedi, he went to go talk to the technician (lori) to see what exactly they could fit me in for. He came back apologizing that they only had time to do a mini pedi or a mini mani, but not both, and not their full service. i took the mini pedi - i ihad to take what i can get!! there was no way i was going to take my engagment photos tomorrow with dirty and scuffed up feet!! So Lori took me in and asked how my day was. i was still very angry about k. paige salon, so i told her the deal. Lori felt so bad for me that she said, "what? your engagement photos are tomorrow?? no! you canNOT just have a pedi tonight, we HAVE to do your hands too!" when i told her that it was really ok and whatever they have time to do, she said, "we'll see what i can do..." She very quickly did my feet, but still did a FANTASTIC job on them, and said, "c'mon, i'm going to do your hands now!" feeling bad, " i said, no, i know you still ahve another appointment", she INSISTED that i get them done, because God forbid i take my engagment photos with undone nails!! c'mon now, the photos would be all over my hands with my engagement ring!! ohmigosh, lori was amazing! to have done such a WONDERFUL job on my hands and feet, and to take me in at least minute, and to insist on giving me services that were much needed for my photos tomorrow, on top of being so busy with other customers who were waiting... oh i cannot say enough about her! i went into salon v in desparate need of help, and i came out with a salon that i will FOR SURE be going back to! Because of the wonderful service lori gave me - bending over backwards to make things right for me - i will definitely go back for their full mani/pedi service, as well as try out their hair services! I absolutely loved Salon V. It was my first time in, so I was a bit nervous trying something new. My friend and I came in as walk ins, and we were taken right away. Danny was my stylist and he was fantastic. He walked me through what he was going to do, and made sure I was on board with it. I have long, thick hair- but he did a wonderful job on layering it and thinning it for me. It's more manageable and feels much better. My friend had Jordan as her stylist, and her hair came out looking amazing as well! The atmosphere was fun and pleasant. All of the employees I had interaction with were extremely friendly. I definitely feel that haircuts are something that reflect in the price to a certain extent. Supercuts/Mastercuts/Haircuttery are cheap for a reason- you get cheap work. Salon V was $40 and was possibly one of the best haircuts I've ever had. I'm getting married next year and I'm considering having Salon V do hair and makeup. If I follow through, I'll post a follow up review. I would definitely recommend Danny and Salon V to others! read more

I have thick, natural (afro) hair. I went in one day, randomly, because I've been looking for someone to do my highlights, but I will only use Aveda color! I went back for my appointment on March 27th and Kacy did a fabulous job! I now have beautiful brown hair with gorgeous honey colored highlights. My hair looks fabulously sunkissed. Salon V has a nice environment and Kacy made me comfortable with conversation and a great hand massage while my toner set! She even gave me some great tea to sip on! I love it and I will be going back! read more

Kaylee is amazing!! I didn't know exactly what I wanted going into the appointment but I told her a little about myself and what I did like about my hair and she confidently executed perfect color. I was slightly under the weather but Kaylee as well as the entire Salon V staff were super sweet and understanding. I have lived in Chicago for over 6 years and never was able to find a stylist I liked and felt comfortable with. My search is over! Thank you Kaylee and Salon V. I will be back! read more
