I've been coming to this salon for almost ten years and every visit has been a wonderful experience. Booking is always simple--whether online or by phone--and the entire staff is welcoming and professional. For years, I was devoted to Tori (eight years strong!) until she moved abroad. I was nervous about switching stylists, but Austin has been amazing. I've now seen him twice for partial highlights (and a cut the second time), and he absolutely nailed it both times. He listened carefully, delivered exactly what I asked for, toned my color perfectly, and brought my haircut back to life. Austin is friendly, skilled, and makes the whole experience enjoyable. Extremely bogus place! I had booked myself a full highlight and blow dry services at 6 pm salon closes at 8 pm. I had confirmed my service a day before for 6pm. I reached the salon at 6:03pm the receptionist said I was late by 3 mins and it takes away from my service. Iris was the stylist assigned to me, she combed through my hair and asked what I wanted, showed her photos and she said she wants to do a test strand and won't do the color unless I was ok with the test strand which would take 45 minutes and after that she won't be able to do my color because they close at 8 pm, doing all this consultation mind you it's already 6:20 no color yet, at this point after 20 mins was taken to the receptionist and the conversation turned pretty quickly and said stylist is not available to do my hair mainly because I showed up late to my appointment----- was literally only three minutes late as o have record of parking that I paid the moment I entered the salon !!!! So thirty minutes spent, parking money spent and the stylist didn't do my hair!!! They didn't offer any other options to me and just said NO one was available to do my hair! I was booked for two hours for color and blow dry and I also mentioned I am ok to skip the blow dry if that would give them enough time to finish my color, 2 hours to which they said NO!!!!! will never ever go here again!!! It was pretty clear that the stylist didn't want to do my Hair!! I will say this, devices places have become more and more ridiculous these days they have no regards towards customer experience or customer service! They can just simply say No after confirming you and putting a $40 hold on your credit card to hold your spot and Not perform the service, nor they have any respect towards the salon owners whose business they hurt by turning customers away! I've been looking to find "the one" hair stylist for so long and I finally found her at Fringe! I got an online appointment for haircut and to my luck, Tori was the first available one on the day I want. I quickly told her what I needed, showed her just one photo and wow! She delivered it! I originally came to Amy at Fringe because of a recommendation and I am so so disappointed by what happened to me there. I don't like to write negative reviews but I feel I have a responsibility to others in sharing this experience. I have been platinum blonde for years and have had long healthy hair the entire time. I came to Amy with a few inches of regrowth and otherwise even light blonde hair, just wanting a bleach & tone. There are complications when you come in with over an inch of regrowth: the hair may not lift evenly. I understood this and let Amy know that it would be okay if that happened. As she as applying bleach, I noticed she was touching my previous blonde with the bleach, which can completely melt off that hair. She assured me would be safe even if it touched previously bleached hair and I trusted her. After she washed and half blow dried my hair, I saw that was not true. I lost over 6 inches of the top section of my hair and paid around $170 dollars. I reached out to Amy after this and she told me my hair would "bounce back" if I used a repairing product they sold at her salon. I am very upset that this happened to me and will not be returning or recommending Amy to anyone else. We are all people who make mistakes and have room to learn, and I'm sure that with time and practice Amy will get better, but I wish I didn't have to pay the price because she wasn't upfront about her skill with bleaching hair. I came to Fringe because my hairstylist recently moved to this salon so I can only speak from my experience since switching to this salon. Maggie has been doing my hair since 2011 and she's FANTASTIC!!! She listens to what I want even when she knows I'm wrong (like the full bang I seem to insist on about once a year) and has helped me finally find a great natural looking blend to cover my... errr... oldening hair (OKAY I HAVE GRAYS UGHHH). Also check out my photos for an up-do she did for a family wedding. It stayed in place all night, I slept on it, and I went to the beach with it perfectly intact the next day (yes, I looked crazy with that hair at the beach but whatever, I'm fly). Fridge has a great location right on Milwaukee between Division and Damen. It's a HUGE salon and a great place to go and get your nails done, a facial, or other service while you're there. Pro Tip: parking can suck on Milwaukee- try a side street or if the weather isn't too bad take the train. Be warned some of the side street parking is residential, but if you live in the 'hood like I do, your 154 sticker will work in the neighborhoods all around the shops. read more

I am disappointed with my haircut. The overall salon experience was efficient--I appreciate that they were able to get me in for a last minute cut. The cut itself is just bad, I have chunks of layers that do not smoothly blend. It looks like straight lines of hair sitting on top of each other....when I put it in a bun there's just a large chunk that hangs out. Additionally, it's not a great experience to have someone use a broken blow dryer, I can do better at home. I'm sure there's some great stylists given the number of high reviews...would be sure to ask for one of them. read more

So this is my nails a week after getting them done - I was in a hurry so didn't have time to ask for them to be redone but they're completely see through in a color that typically is opaque, they were bleeding into my cuticles and peeled off super quickly (after 5 days when I got no chip and I was not picking at them). The nail tech was nice so I felt bad about leaving a negative review but i don't feel like i spent my money well and would hate for someone else to have the same experience. It also should be noted that it took over an hour for just the no chip mani, so if you do go here I would plan ahead that it will be taking more than an hour. read more

This is for the nail salon part of the business. I bought a deal for a no chip mani and the 3 times I've been here I've had to come back a 2nd time for them within a week of getting the no chip to fix my nails chipping. I don't think anyone here is trained how to properly apply the OPI no chip nail polish. See photos, that last time I was here the nail polish was peeling off within a day from getting them done. They do fix them free of charge but they always make an excuse as to why the nails chipped or peeled the 1st round. I wouldn't recommend getting a no chip mani here. read more

I was excited to get my eye lash tint and lift Its my first experience. I arrived to street parking and parking meter can be a real busy area I just happen to go on a day when it was mid morning and moderate traffic. After Checking in I was seated at a bar where it looks as if they offer a coffee complementary. I was greeted by Danielle she explained the Procedure as she went along she was gentle and delicate with her hands. I did explain that I had never had this procedure before and that I did have somewhat sensitive skin. I have to say the solution they use to lift the lashes smells exactly like perm solution that's used in the beauty salon to make your hair curly, I did not ask her and she did not elaborate although she did say I know it smells perm solution They also use a neutralizer after that to stop the Lashes from curling that had no smell. Within 24 hours I started getting a little redness and it followed to be seasonal allergy like symptoms my eyes were swollen and watery Red irritated and puffy with fluid. I took over-the-counter Benadryl and allergy eyedrops which helped temporarily but was not enough I ended up having to go to the emergency room yesterday and they treated me saying I had a bad chemical reaction. He prescribed a prescription strength Benadryl and a steroid for the swelling. I just want to let anyone know that if they're considering this procedure or any other to be informed. read more

I've been getting my hair cut and dyed by Amy for 4 years now and she rocks. When I first came to her I had been using jet black box dye for around 5 years and wanted to get back to my natural color. We gradually were able to overcome the years of box saturation and at one point I had a balayage treatment that was even close to blonde. She listens and takes the time to talk through your color goals and sets realistic expectations of how long it may take to get to your goal without damaging your hair. Definitely recommend her! Also, Fringe is a full service salon, so you can get your nails done while you process so that's a win too. I got a Brazilian Blowout done by Mina last week. She was so attentive, kind and funny. The time spent in the chair breezed by. I was nervous to wash my hair because I've gotten a Keratin treatment in the past that didn't turn out the way I wanted. After washing, I let it air dry with just a bit of anti-frizz spray I bought from the salon and I now have my DREAM hair. It lays flat, is super shiny, still has waves to it with very minimal frizz. Okay, so this is my first bad review I've ever made, actually this experience is the reason I made a Yelp account. I've been rather conflicted about it, to the point I hesitated making this review for quite some time. This was upwards of 5 months ago. I had the morning off and decided to get a trim. About two months prior, I had completely shaved my head. I've had a pixie for seven years, so it wasn't a huge step. I went into Fringe having never been there. I saw wonderful reviews, and my hair salon was closed that morning, so I gave it a try. Parking was easy at first, but I'll get to that later. Ambiance was gorgeous and open, staff was wonderful. I made an appointment online and it seemed to go well. I told the stylist, (I don't remember her name, even if I did, I wouldn't say it. She was wonderfully sweet, I wasn't sure what went wrong.) that I just needed a trim, a bleach and a dye. Keep in mind I've been bleaching, cutting, dying my hair for years, so it was nothing new. The bleach seemed to stay in my hair FOREVER. To the point it was burning. I understand bleach is a chemical, it burns. But this seemed excessive. I had virgin hair, no longer than 2-3 inches. Now it was time for the dye, maybe an hour later. She used an INSANE amount of dye, way too much for the amount of hair I had. Even with the dye sitting in my hair for AGES, (I was now watching the clock because I was going to be late for work) the dye job came out patchy and no where near the color I asked for. There were blonde patches and the color was pale, when what I asked for was a hot pink. Near tears, almost late for work, I said it was fine and that I needed to leave. She knew it didn't look great, but I didn't want to cause a scene. What really got me was the price of it all. I can't remember the exact amount, but with tip I paid in the ballpark of 150-225 dollars. I was FLOORED. With the small amount of hair I had, I almost threw up at the amount, especially with what I was leaving with. THREE AND A HALF hours later, I was free to go to my car, watery eyes and all. When I got back to my car, there was a huge, orange parking ticket on my windshield. Add fifty more dollars. Because of the insane amount of time this took, I was now looking patchy, down three hundred dollars and late to work. On my way to work, crying and all (yes, over dramatic, I know) I decided to call. I spoke to one lady and asked if I could come in the next day for a touch up. She said yes, and it was with the same sweet stylist. I went back, got my hair touched up and that was that. The stylist apologized profusely and I sat in the chair, trying not to cry thinking about the day before. The cut was wonderful, and the second dye job was better. She still used an insane amount of product and it took much longer than needed, I left with a burning scalp and pink dye staining my skin. Again, I was super conflicted about writing this review, but I simply wanted to get this off my chest. The first image is my first dye job, although it's hard to see the patches, believe me, they're there. And yes, it was a 250 dollars hair-do. The second one is the touch up. Better, but still not worth the hassle, annoyance and the loads of money. read more

This is my love letter to Susan DeChant, the best esthetician that ever did walk the streets of Chicago. And she spends her days at Fringe, so perhaps you should too, friends. I've been seeing Susan for about a year. She is the warmest and most lovely human you'll ever meet, first of all. Second of all, she's a skilled wizard-woman of all things facials and waxing. (and lashes!) My favorite combo is to get a brow shape up and then a Glo facial. I walk out feeling like a million bucks every single time. I've also had a series of peels while having a bit of a face freak out, which solved the problem! She has a whole line up of options to fit your needs and is always flexible if something else better suits you that day (as long as it fits within the time frame!) She's gentle yet effective, I like my facials relaxing but want to be productive about it too -- she gets me. Also, she's never pushing products, but will happily recommend stuff if you like -- very important, I don't like feeling like an hour long sales pitch, and I'm sure most people don't. She's a pro! Perhaps the icing on the cake though is that any time you are resting with a mask on your face, she gives GREAT massages. Hands, feet, shoulders -- it's just bliss, I can't say enough about it. She's just awesome. Fringe itself is super nice and large and full of light and fairly easy to park around being *just* far enough away from the 6 corners. The facial room is near the back and closed off so it's very quiet and relaxing. The front desk gals are ALWAYS very friendly and helpful. I talked to two different people to see if I'm able to get a refund. The manager there doesn't know what to do she's obviously clueless about everything. The other young girl that I mentioned on my last review was a professional. I truly don't blame the receptionists there I blame the people that run that place. Save your money!!! When I used to get a haircut there by a cute African American girl she told me how the owner was getting sued for racism and that's why she was planning on leaving..I think they didn't want to bother with me since I'm Hispanic.
