I recently gave a gift certificate to my girlfriend from salon viari. I did this for a few reasons, one i love local small businesses and try my best to support them. It's what made america what it is today, you know before Walmart and Home Depot and online insurance companies destroyed America. Secondly because the owner christine gives to almost every fundraiser I have ever been to. I personally can't go to a salon because well I'm a dude and lets just say I'm folically challenged.. Bahahahaha. My girlfriend was super nervous about having her hair cut from a new place as she had some bad cuts in the past from other places, however; once she emerged from the chair after a cut and color she was very pleased with the results. Not only did she love it, she had enough leftover in her gift certificate to be able to go back when she wants. She also told is bringing a friend along. I've been going to Salon Viari for years but my mom recently switched over from her previous hair stylist and she is beyond happy she made the switch. Everyone at Salon Viari is extremely kind, patient, and knowledgeable. I see Christine, my sister has seen Lisa, and my mom has seen a few other women there. They are all lovely. I can not say enough. Not only is everyone amazing but their work is just as incredible. You always feel leaving like a movie star. They listen to your wants and needs and always nail it. So the first haircut I got was 4.5 stars, but the wait for the second haircut was a 1 star. At my second time at the salon, I arrived on time, checked in and sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes with no updates. Apparently there were two hairdressers with the same name. At least two other women were waiting for one of them. The waiting room started to fill up. No updates. Now I have an appointment at another salon. Update: I got a call 1hr 15min after my appointment with an apology and an offer for a gift card from the salon owner. I declined as I do not want to come back, but I appreciate the gesture. read more

Wow! Such a great salon! The owner Christine took me on Tuesday even though I think they usually don't schedule appointments on Tuesday's. I got a cut color blow dry and flat iron. I am always super apprehensive about getting my hair done because I feel like some places will just do whatever they want. But not here! I told Christine the idea of what color I wanted and she nailed it. I also asked her to try to keep my length as much as possible even though I knew I was long overdue for a cut seeing as I haven't had one in a couple of years but she was somehow able to do everything I asked! I got a color correction and a trim yesterday from Christine and I was super nervous going into the appointment. As a new client to the Salon and the hairdresser/colorist. I came here in January for a cut and color and will never be back. The service itself was fine (basic trim and color), but i felt very embarrassed and my whole experience was just uncomfortable. I have naturally curly hair as I am a POC, so when I came in I told the stylist what type of curls I have (3a/3b). The stylist looked at me like i had 3 heads and said "okay.... so what's that"... I then had to explain to her that curly hair has different types which go by letter and number. I'm not even a hairdresser and I know this!! This just goes to show that this salon has uneducated stylists, and obviously are only used to one type of hair. Maybe I will be back when you want to make your salon inclusive of all hair types and all people of color. read more

I have been getting my hair cut and styled and my make up done at the salon for the past 5 years and every experience I've had has been great. I usually get my hair cut and styled by Jill who is not only amazing at what she does but also makes me feel like she appreciates me as a customer. Danielle is their make up artist, and every time I leave her chair I feel like a model ready to hit the runway. I've also had many run ins with the manager and she always been so kind. My experiences have lead to me to recommend many family and friends to Salon Viari all of whom love it. I will admit parking can be annoying but its never taken me more than 5 minutes to find a spot. I wish i could give this zero stars. if you are looking for a salon, like i was, then please, keep looking. Not so friendly and welcoming upon entering the salon. Was greeted at the reception desk by a girl who seemed irritated and bothered by my arrival. could not accomodate a walk in at that time(mind you there was one customer in there at that time) , although the website states otherwise "walk ins welcome" nope. no welcome. so i made my appt to come back the next day, which i ended up being 15min early, due to the search for parking. (that is another issue..people scrambling for parking, and worrying about being towed) And then i was sort of reprimanded by the stylist, for being early. I told her i did not have a problem sitting and waiting the 10min till my scheduled appt. she said Nevermind, and hurried me to her station. I got a wash, cut and blow out, because i was in search of a new salon but alas, not so here. The salon is so very clique-y, very Newbury street, price and attitude to match, and its in Malden! just like Newbury street, NO PARKING. anyway, my stylist didnt even ask how i would like my hair styled, she just went ahead and blew it to her liking. anyway, i asked her if i did anything to make her so upset with me, and she just brushed me off, i asked for a manager when i was checking out, and the little girl behind the desk said she didnt know where she was at that moment, poor girl was either scared or confused, but anyway i still gave the sullen stylist a healthy tip anyway. well, never going back, i was looking for a salon to drop some $$$ so i can get a new look, but that was not meant to be here. Master Cuts in the mall was way better and friendly, too. BTW, i did manage to get intouch with the manager, explailned my situation, and she didnt seem all that concerned and was all "oh well." plz look elsewhere fist. read more

Salon Viari saved my day today! So, I woke up, got into the shower to get ready for a very important meeting . While I am in the shower, the power goes out! I am now in total darkness.! I own a business in the area and the meeting was with a potential client. I automatically started to panic! WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HAIR???? Now girls, I don't know about you, but when i am having a great hair day the whole day ( usually) goes well. Reluctantly, I quickly got ready and left the house with WET hair:( As I was driving to work I drove by Salon Viari and decided to run in to see if they could help me. I walked into the salon with wet hair, limited time, no appointment and in a panic! The young girl at the desk not only helped me, she had me blown dried, flat ironed and styled beautifully in 15 minutes!!! I made it to my meeting 15 minutes early feeling very confident! I have been going to Salon Viari for over 16 years now. I've had my hair and my wedding party hair done for my wedding. My daughters have gone there and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a new salon. After not cutting my hair for over 20 years in 1997 I went there for my first official salon hair cut. They were so nice and helpful and were very excited that I was going to donate all 25 inches of my hair. They made such a big deal about it made me feel great!!! I have made appointments and walked in and have never been turned away. Come to think of it my whole family has been there for service. I've followed her from her previous place of employment to salon viari because she is that great! I think parking can be annoying anywhere on a Main Street, but I am always able to find a spot! I've been a customer at Salon Viari for almost 20 years! The entire staff is knowledgeable and professional!! I've used almost all the stylists that work there and have no complaints. The staff at Salon Viari did my wedding party which consisted of 8 bridesmaids and 2 mothers and they gave each one of us great individual service, no one felt rushed and they also had everyone ready on time. I bring my two children there as well, my youngest is beyond shy and they're so great with her they are one of the few she'll allow to touch her hair without a fight, including me! They not only do fabulous work they are great consultants as well; they have helped me decide on a color or style on numerous occasions when I had no idea what I wanted and everywhere I go everyone always complements my hair color! I went here for the first time yesterday and had my hair cut by Valerie. I am SO happy with my experience. She was really friendly and chatted with me happily. But the real deal is my haircut. That's why you go there right? Losing a hairdresser is like losing a doctor! Or a bartender! These are important people in your life. You need them. Mine moved away and I worried I wouldn't find another to meet my expectations. I am a guy with thinning hair who feels kind of embarrassed about this normal progression I'm going through. But since Val cut my hair I've already styled it twice and worn it out proudly. She not only treated me politely and asked me questions about my hair, she took the time to make me feel comfortable and confident about my appearance. I couldn't be happier. As much as a good haircut is really important, it's nice to have someone you can chat with along the way. She was super nice and I will be back to have my hair cut SOON. Prices are also wonderful.
