I had my hair and make up done here for my engagement photos. Overall it was a good experience! Nicole was amazing and did exactly what I asked. I loved how the look came out! I would definitely visit again to see her. My soft glam make up look was $135 which I did feel was a bit high for the quality of make up used, but it did come out good and lasted throughout my photo shoot. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the social media person taking photos and videos of me without asking. I really wanted to like this place. My appointment was for an ombre and I showed her the photo, confident that she would do it since it's such a straightforward look and she was a senior stylist. What I got was a balayage with so much of my color showing through the ends and super brittle and over processed strands hanging out in the front and back. She also got really distracted halfway through because she was showing everyone the Charlie Kirk video. Yes, THAT one. I don't want to post this because I've seen how the owners respond to negative reviews, but I have to be honest, my hair is STILL breaking off. I do not want to go back to get it fixed, I'd rather buzz it off. I just don't want anyone to have to pay over $500 for a good nespresso coffee, and then be bumped around in their tiny floorspace. I tipped well because I wanted to be nice and get out of there faster, but it was all money down the drain. read more

It saddens me to leave such a review for a woman-owned small business and I hesitated for a while after having left them a very generous tip. However, I hope that the before and after photos I attached speak for themselves. Read on if you want the longer version: My stylist, despite being described as "senior," was not able to match my previous balayage, nor to follow my request to stay away from brassy, warm tones. The result was streaky and brassy. I think they rushed it and did not allow it to develop past the ginger phase. Also, on the topic of being rushed-- I asked about adding an Olaplex type service when I had initially called to book the appointment and they declined it because I already had an add-on blow dry service. This system of a-la-carte-ing everything ends up feeling pretty restrictive and you can tell they are in a great rush. Still, the annoying a la carte system and the rather restrictive polices could be tolerable were it not for the caliber of the service I received. Before you ask why I did not take it up with them-- on the day my rushed service occurred and I first took a look in their mirror after they dried my hair, it seemed like my hair was lighter. I surmise that my previous color simply appeared a bit brighter due to the heat that had just been used. As I left for a work trip over the coming days, the sad reality began to sink in that the actual "balayage" they did had little effect beyond that. I basically paid 400+ for some heat and toner. Also, nobody around me noticed that my hair looked any different than the remnants of the grown-out, old balayage I had before the appointment, which is unusual in my line or work. In general, those in my life who always notice didn't this time ;) My sole purpose in leaving this review is to inform others--I am not seeking anything from this salon and certainly was not going to return after having my trust in their capacities shaken. My suggestion to this salon: design your policies from the perspective of how clients will feel, so that you can retain them; giving clients the impression that you are rushing them makes it seem like you just want to milk them. The lesson I took away from this experience is to that, going forward, I will try to continue to give my business to LGBTQ-leaning salons, where consent and self-determination are more likely to be taken seriously. In a typical salon like this one, it seems it did not matter what I described--the stylist just did what she was comfortable with doing. read more

Don't go to Emily. I went to another woman who no longer works there, but I box dyed my hair way too light on top and need it corrected. She even asked me to come a day earlier than I had scheduled, which was fine. Emily told me the only way to correct it was to dye it to match the bottom, which was insanely dark. Fine. She hastily slapped black hair dye on my top hair (no foils) and ALL over my forehead, which she didn't wipe until the end, and a week later, the black dye is still on my forehead. She was managing another client, a contractor, and in the middle of my dye session, she sat next to me and gave herself a blowout. I was not going to pay for a blowout, so she didn't even brush my hair, so I left looking right out of the shower. She charged me $190, plus I gave her $50 tip. Stay away. read more

I liked Johanna Phan's service but she moved to other salon, so I selected whoever was available. The whole experience felt very rushed. Toner wasn't even rinsed off completely - I felt she didn't really rinse the back of my head, but I thought it may be fine. Then I could easily squeeze out white toner water when I was blow drying my hair, absolutely not clear water. Also once I got ice cold water and once really hot water that I jumped up almost. I understand the salon is very busy, which is why I could only book a color session without blow dry service. But as long as you take clients it's better to provide more welcoming environment and proper service that's not rushed. read more

I sincerely hope that no one else has the experience that I had. Looking at the other lower reviews though I can see this has happened before. Luxe does not know how to communicate and I have never left a salon feeling so distraught and taken advantage of. They canceled on me twice the day of for both of my appointments and didn't offer to reschedule me until nearly a month out. This was extremely frustrating because if I did the same to them, accident or not, they would charge me a cancellation fee of 50% of my service. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt ( I should've trusted my gut and ran) and came back for an appointment a week later since they decided they could suddenly 'fit' me in. For the inconvenience they gave me a 20% 'discount.' I say discount lightly because they ended up charging me way more than my original fee (it went from starting at $280 to $375) and then the supposed discount brought me to $300. They switched me to a more expensive stylist than my original appointment. They also claimed the price jump was because my hair was 'too brunette' and victim-blamed me. I was never told that my hair was too brown or warned of any price jumps when I showed my reference pictures at the beginning of my appointment. I booked a full highlight and left with still very dark hair. This was all right before a wedding (since they pushed my appointment) so I couldn't even get it fixed/lightened in time. I tried to call the stylist to have her fix it but she said she was too busy and would have a manager call me back. I waited for three days and had to call again. After I finally spoke to the manager I asked for my initial price on top of the discount like I was promised and for her to fix my hair. She became passive-aggressive and acted like I was being a pain. The whole phone call she was angrily saying fake apologies and telling me it was my fault that I booked the wrong service, then offered me a lousy 15$ refund or a few small highlights. Otherwise, she said I would have to spend even more money to become more blonde. Be kind to yourself and your wallet and go somewhere else. read more

I understand emergencies happen but when I asked if I could have a discount for the inconvenience, I was told "I don't know, and you can reschedule online and OH don't worry we won't charge you for the appointment today" ... If I were to cancel the day of, I would've been charged the full amount for the service. overall, had an unhelpful and condescending encounter with whoever called me. Luxe Lab is an absolutely gorgeous space and they do such a good job taking care of you - especially under current conditions. Being a hairdresser for over 30 years, i just experienced the most unprofessional, uncomfortable, new client experience at this establishment.!! I walked in, greeted by the receptionist, sat in the owners chair, anticipated getting a warm welcome. Followed by what I thought would be "a new client" experience . No conversation by my stylist(owner), no "check in" while color was processing, quick shampoo, color left around my hairline, conditioning treatment followed by someone who was clearly afraid to touch my hair. Emily has been doing my hair for a long time so when I saw she opened her own salon, I booked the first appointment I could get! The salon is so bright and clean, and welcoming. I was nervous getting a hair cut during the pandemic, but everyone was wearing masks, there was lots of hand sanitizer around (good quality, not that cheap shit), and they had the door open to help circulate the air.
