I had such an awful experience with this unprofessional salon. I made an appointment at 3:30 pm got a call at 1:45 pm that they have to cancel my appointment because they have another client that his service will take longer than what the stylist expected. I was invited to a party and counted on them to help me with my hair styling. Very disappointed with the way they treated me. Never again gonna go to that salon and will tell all my circle about the unprofessional way they treated me. I came here for a blowout before a wedding reception. After waiting for 40+ minutes, the hair stylist violently grabbed my hair to examine it after saying hello. I mentioned immediately that I have a sensitive scalp and asked him not to pull my hair. Despite this, he very forcefully pulled my hair repeatedly (likely due to a movement disorder, not intentionally). He made several intentional berating comments about how dry my hair is, and recommended: 1) cutting my hair because it was so damaged, 2) a keratin treatment (that I've had many times in the past), and 3) hair botox. I told him I take good care of my hair and use a bond builder (he literally asked "what is a bond builder"), and have a dyson airwrap (just not with me due to travel constraints). After the prolonged torture (and he was literally brushing my hair violently while it was wet, and it was shedding in clumps as he was doing this), I asked for the 1 other female stylist instead. He clearly had a issues with fine motor skills, but the other stylist wasn't available, and I could no longer continue the torture. So I went to a wedding reception with air dried hair (literally the worst of my life) after Salon X wasted my time with their ineptitude. read more

I've been to Salon X about 3 times now and Lorena has always exceeded my expectations. This review is about my most recent visit. I've been thinking about dying my hair for a while now but I was always nervous about getting it done. I consulted with Lorena beforehand and explained I wanted it to be subtle. As she was coloring my hair, she always made sure she talked me through everything she was doing so I wouldn't be surprised by the end result. At the end it turned out beautifully and exactly what I was looking for! Anyone who's nervous about taking the leap with coloring, please reconsider and go see Lorena! Finally, a place to get my hair cut and colored in JC! I realized that my old hair place in the East Village was just too far, and after doing some digging around on Yelp I came across Salon X. Trish was my stylist and really took the time to listen and walk me through some of the best color options. I don't cut my hair that often so I'm always a tad nervous, but the warm and welcoming vibe and great music really helped make my experience a pleasant one! Trish did exactly what I wanted - four inches off, angles and a dark and shiny brown color. Definitely can't complain when you walk in with a vision and come out looking exactly as you had hoped! Only reason I'll take off a star is the price. 80 dollars for a cut, and an additional 80 for a single process color is definitely pretty steep. I don't even think I've that paid that much...even at some super 'trendy' salons in the East Village and Flatiron. But after doing some price-checking in JC, it seems as if prices are pretty high across the board here. High prices aside, I only get my hair cut and colored twice a year so I'm wiling to pay up if I have a really great experience. With that said, I would definitely return to Salon X. read more

I was there around lunch time today and was even offered a sandwich - it feels like you're part of their salon family while you're there! Lucky me! I have walked past Salon X for years and decided to book an appt for a hair cut since I was unhappy with my go-to salon. I am so glad I did. I was greeted with kindness by Laurie & Paul. They were covid prepared and everything was sanitized and cleaned. I told Paul what I was looking for in a cut and I couldn't be happier. Finally, I found someone who is not only a lovely human but who genuinely wanted me to be a happy customer. This place is the worst!! The salon is very pretty inside but that's where it begins & ends. The owners are extremely bad business people and they will lie to you and nickel and dime you. They obviously haven't learned the importance of a "client". The woman owner is very fake and controlling and the male owner is obnoxious, rude and both of them have a temper!! (No wonder they were once married and now divorced = the name Salon x) I had the expensive Brazilian Keratin treatment done on my hair and I asked all the right questions prior to the appointment. Long story short, the treatment washed out in 5 days and when I went back to the Salon the owners treated me really bad. The male owner served up an incredible attitude and yelled at me infront of everyone. He shouldn't be allowed working with the public. They didn't even say sorry and didn't even offer to offer any refund. It was so obvious that the treatment didn't work. I was so upset for days after that experience. My husband and I both go here - he sees Cha Cha and I see Grace. Cha Cha does a great job on his short cut - he's never looked so hot except for maybe our wedding day (sorry, gag me I know). Grace is a great colorist and patient with my attempt to grow my hair to shoulder length - no nasty surprises, only gentle long layers. The place as a whole is really friendly - the staff seems like they're part of one big family. The prices are not cheap, but it IS a fancy salon and I do feel like I'm getting a deal when comparing it with top NYC salons. Plus they always seem to have goodies at the front desk, which somehow helps with the letting go of precious dollars in hard times. read more

I had a great experience there with Stephanie. I have tight curly hair, and I finally decided to take the plunge with a keratin treatment. Stephanie understood that I wanted to keep my curl and that I was nervous about a chemical treatment (no one at the salon pushed me towards full-on straightening, like so many places do) - she helped make the whole thing very comfortable. So here's why I'm putting a review on yelp - even aside from the keratin treatment, my new haircut is fabulous! I've been going to Devachan for years, and they gave me uniform layers that end up forming sort of a roundish mass of curls - Stephanie did some kind of uneven texturizing cut thing on some of the layers that has given me cute dangly curls and created more separation between curls so that the whole thing looks more sophisticated and styled. I love it! And the $100 keratin and $60 haircut still added up to not much more than I'd pay for just a cut at Devachan. Overall a very professional and friendly salon! read more

Paul gives great all scissor cuts every time. This guy has experience and it shows. He cuts however I request and it's always flawless. I've had cuts with many of the other stylists when Paul is not available and they all left me satisfied. This place has a nice decor with some pretty rad artwork. They always offer drinks that vary depending on the time of the day. Paul makes a killer espresso and runs a cowboy boot store in SoHo. I get a cut about every 2 months, always a good experience. Visited Salon X today, during the pandemic and I must say that I was very impressed with the amount of precautions taken to sanitize & social distance, which made me feel so comfortable during this trying time. I had the Keratin treatment with Paul and LOVE how it came out! It can be a long and tedious process, which warrants some patience (as Paul is a master and perfectionist) but is definitely worth the time and effort. I went to Salon X yesterday to do a blow dry and a wash. I have a coffee shop down the street and wanted to support the neighborhood, plus I really needed to feel better about myself. The space is beautiful, the owner was super pleasant and the girl that did my hair...I forgot her name, (she just got married) she was really sweet, attentive and fast. I had my hair cut by Paul. When I attempeted to tell him what I wanted with my hair, he proceeded to talk over me. He made me feel very uncomfortable. I honestly couldn't wait to leave. I had a very uncomfortable experience with Paul as well. He disregarded my input into how I wanted my hair cut and was very rough in his cutting technique. There was more than one instance when I thought he had cut my neck. At one point he sliced his finger, yelled an obscenity, and continued cutting without putting a band aid on his finger. Shame on me for not saying something then, but I think I was in shock. Towards the end, he states that he "doesn't do blow outs" and flat irons my hair dry. When I went to pay, I was charged an additional fee for the flat iron on top of the fee for the haircut, which was pretty standard and not really worth the money and overall experience. If you go there, avoid Paul and be clear what services you want. The other people there nice enough though. read more

Unfortunately, I'm the kind of person that prefers to wear very casual dress when I go to a salon. After all, I'm getting service there, not trying to impress anyone. I visited Salon X for the first time a couple weeks ago. The building and space was beautiful... but it ends there. It is not a friendly and warm atmosphere :( The consultation with Leah, my colorist, was not ideal. I told her what I had envisioned for my hair, and she kept giving me different options on now to achieve this goal. I just would have liked her recommendation based on my current coloring, and what would compliment my skin tone. I am not a colorist, nor do I know how to create particular looks, that is what I was looking for her help on! The haircut took about 10 minutes (not exaggerating). I told her she did not have to style my hair, so she put the blow drier on it for about 30 seconds and was done! I looked like a wet dog when I left to be kind. When I went to pay my $200 bill (for looking like a wet dog) the receptionist said that they don't accept tips on the credit card. With that, they told me I had to go to the convenience store ATM across the street and take money out for a tip. Another $3.00 in fines for their convenience. As you can probably tell, I will not be going back there.. or recommending it to anyone else! read more

Dear Salon X, I no longer live in Williamsburg and, therefore, did not want an asymmetrical haircut. Thanks. I have long straight hair. I wanted a trim and some layers put in - pretty basic, nothing fancy. I ended up with blunt, thick, short layers on one side of my head and almost no layers on the other. I hadn't changed where my hair was parted for the cut. When I called later that day, they argued about my wanting to see another stylist to fix my hair. They wanted me to see the same woman to fix it. Not a chance I was letting her touch my head! The man who fixed my hair did the best he could, but said, "It's going to need to grow out for a few months before we can really fix it." I'm an actress and my headshots are next week. I'm going to have screwed up hair on all of my promotional material. Awesome. The only reason this salon get even 1 star is that they are friendly and welcoming upon your arrival. read more
