I've been a loyal client of Laket & Co for over three years and consistently recommended the salon because of the high-quality work I received from my previous stylist, Christine. My recent appointment with Jennifer (newly joined the salon) was shockingly disappointing. I clearly asked for volume and face-framing long layers, but instead received a blunt, straight-across cut with no layering, no shape, and no apparent effort to check for balance or finish. The blow-dry was equally concerning--poor technique, no control, and no understanding of how to create volume. The end result looked unfinished and amateur. After getting a terrible, shag haircut (no offense to those who can rock it, I cannot and it was not my request) at a nearby salon, I was saved by Adrienne who fixed it and ending up giving me a cute tousled bob. What initially was such a disaster of a haircut was saved by my new bob and my festering annoyance is now zapped by the fact that I have a cute cut! First off- this spot is nothing but gorgeous! The service is beyond anything I've ever experienced and honestly worth the cost! As salons started reopening during the pandemic, I found myself in desperate need of a new colorist. I've been a bottle blonde for about 8 years, so having a place for my hair to call home is important, with 4+ services a year to maintain the color. I started going to LaKoet in October of 2020, and based on a few quick Instagram searches decided Lily looked like a match for my needs. When I met Lily at my first appointment she was so lovely, and really took time to understand what coloring and tones I wanted. Equally as important, she's a good conversationalist. Yesterday I had my third appointment with Lily, coloring for my wedding, and when I say she perfectly matched the tone/coloring of my extensions, it was exact. The salon itself has such a great vibe, with eclectic boho elements and bursts of color. They also make some of their own hair products which are available for sale. COVID protocols are all in place, with temperature checks and masks required. They also request everyone sanitize their hands upon arrival with provided hand sanitizer. The hidde jem in Jersey City!! I came here and got my hair done from Jillian. She is absolutely lovely, beyond words that i can describe. She was patience and paid close attention to details and what I wanted. I have a very sensitive scalp and i told her that no chemical or ingredients should touch my scalp. I went to the salon recently for full highlights. I wanted to be a very cool blonde and I have been trying so many different salons and always unhappy with my results as they kept coming out too warm and brassy for my taste. I decided to try LaKoet and Paola did my cool blonde perfectly. She took her time and I'm so happy with how it came out. She used different glazes and really cared about if I liked it or not. The salon is very cute and clean and they were careful with covid. The space is big and comfortable. I cannot say enough good things about this salon. They really know what they're doing. Over the past almost 2 years I've gone from a near-black choppy shag with Elena (which grew out fantastically) to a partial 90s highlight, a full head of cool blonde micro highlights- and now- a cool, icy blonde highlight with funky pink accent- all color (and recent cuts) done by Gianna. My hair has been THROUGH IT and it's been kept healthy and everyone here is so thoughtful and takes their time to make sure the end result is exactly how you want it while keeping the integrity of the hair intact. As a business owner, I am very careful when I write a review. We, as business owners, are humans and all humans make mistakes. I've made mistakes, my team has, and we all will in the future. It is human nature. Handling the mistake is another matter -- especially when it comes to something that is a significant investment. I got my first set of keralink extensions at LaKoet in December 2018. I loved them. I had tried tape-ins previously and they didn't really work for me. The second time, April 2019, I also loved the work done. The salon told me I needed to buy new hair and that they were "giving me a discount" which I expected to be some what of a marketing strategy but I appreciated the sentiment and figured that if I wanted them, I'd have to spend the money. In August 2019, I got my next set. They all lasted very well up until this time. My best friend + my cousin got married within the first month of my install - so there were a lot more washes and blow outs than I would normally do. And then I got the recommendation for an R+Co shampoo from an R+Co rep at Sephora in Midtown Manhattan -- I told + showed him that I had extensions and I also explained that I needed a shampoo that was safe. The one he recommended, according to my stylist, damaged the bonds and that's why half of my extensions fell out within 4 weeks of being installed. I'm not an expert in this so I said ok and started doing research. First, I found out the price was way over the market rate for this type of extension. About $500-$600 more than Warren Tricombi and others. And that's fine, I fully support and expect everyone to charge what they believe is a fair price however, I had proposed providing my own services and the salon owner asked for a dramatic discount to accommodate her budget and I did, gladly. We ended up not working together because of an issue with a sales team member that was fired by my company but that's not the point. Second, I found out that the bonds could be reused. Donna Bella's own site says the bonds can be reused twice with their rebond method. The stylist maintains to this day that that's not the kind or extensions I have (but I know it is because I've called Donna Bella and shared photos of my hair) so I bought 3 rounds of hair unnecessarily. Third, the stylist gave me a blowout in September and put a lot of oil at the "bottom" of my hair, below the bonds. That night, my hair was so tangled (after going to business meetings and a dinner), that I lost 10 extensions and because of her advice, threw them away despite the fact that Donna Bella says they could be reused. And again, she blames the shampoo - which I hadn't used in 7 days at that point. To me, this blow out should have been free and the lost extensions should have been fixed; I still have hair at the salon that I purchased. And finally, when I sent an article to the stylist to ask why we didn't reuse them, her response was to tell me the article was wrong and I didn't have those types of extensions and that the shampoo that I used a total of four times over four weeks was the cause. The lesson here? Do your research before investing in something like extensions. I love my extensions and am happy to continue to make the investment but I don't ever take advantage of my clients and I expect the same level of service + support with anyone I contract or employ for my company, myself and anyone I recommend to friends. It's not easy to ask these questions - because service providers can get defensive instead of trying to find a solution; and that IS understand with the pressure business owners face - but it's also not fair to expect a client to continue the pay for things that they shouldn't be paying for or to expect a client to pay for something before it's "expiration date" (so to speak). Donna Bella says the keralink extensions last for 3-5 months - if mine didn't even make it a full 2 months, shouldn't they be covered? Shouldn't there be some sort of reduced fee to reinstall? I have no problem paying for time or resources but this seems like a situation where the response should have been something far better than "it's your fault" and "I'm sorry it didn't work out for you." I will be going somewhere for services moving forward -- as I said to my stylist, I don't think Lakoet is the right salon for me moving forward and it's not a personal thing. I'm not mad at her personally, I am upset at the response and how the situation was handled -- but I also felt this needed to be shared as I think the facts speak for themselves and it's clear there was another error here that could have easily been corrected with a compromise on both parties' which is all I was trying to achieve. read more

I am a regular at LaKoet and had been going to Christine for over 3 years. But unfortunately this time I came to know she was no longer working at the salon. I was left with no choice but given another stylist LILY. Frankly , I didn't like the way she handled my hair. It felt she was more applying the generic knowledge of haircut , than giving a cut which suits a face. I had amazing layers , but she chopped all into same level . When I was letting her know what I wanted she was rude and was getting offended . She was focusing on giving a great look with the blowout. Highly recommend lakoet salon! I had an amazing experience with them. I went for a half balayage treatment and haircut. I walked in the store and was instantly welcomed by Leni(hope i spelled her name right) and was offered a drink while i waited. I went for a coffee and it tasted great. The salon is nicely decorated and the vibe of the salon was soothing. I was then greeted by Kitty as we then consulted about my hair color. I mentioned this would be my FIRST TIME so i was nervous. I've been looking for a hair salon to cut my curls and was recommended to try Kitty by numerous people on the NextDoor app. In the north, I have not had many good hair salon experiences. Often times I feel that I'm paying a lot of money for not a whole lot of: 1) good customer service 2) feeling my cut is just ok. Kitty took her time getting to know my hair, cut it as we discussed, and took her time to style so that she could see how the curls fell. I was referred here by a friend and had a lovely experience. First star: online booking for appointments! I arrived for my appointment at 3:45 and Kitty (my stylist/the owner) was still with her prior appointment, so I accepted a glass of wine and waited for about 15 minutes. Kitty talked to me briefly about what I wanted. I knew I wanted to cut off about 4-5 inches but didn't have more of an idea than that, so she made some suggestions. The shampoo was good, with a deep conditioner that they apparently make themselves. The $70 cut was quick and painless. She showed me a way to twist my hair to encourage my curls while they dry. The product she used made them a little crunchy, so I'm not sure how I will feel about the haircut once it's more 'natural', but right now I feel good about it. The energy in the salon is great, it's beautiful and smells lovely thanks to all their products and soaps that they sell! read more

Jillian was AMAZING, she really worked with me to figure out what color I was going for. She was very experienced and knew exactly what she was taking about when she had specific suggestions such as where to start the color and how light to go where it won't wash out my face. The other stylists were very experienced as well! Genesis gave me tips on hair care, how to keep the color with certain treatments or products, (not only what they sell but also homemade hair masks).
