We pulled up Yelp to find a good lunch spot, saw the solid reviews, and decided to give it a try. When we walked in, the atmosphere had that small-town vibe--simple, welcoming, and comfortable. The food was very good. The service wasn't polished like a Michelin star restaurant, but it didn't need to be. It was authentic and heartfelt, and sometimes that matters more. You could tell the staff cared about what they were doing. The place was busy, especially for the time of day we went, which tells you something. People come here on purpose. That says a lot. We were seated quickly, our order was taken without any issues, and the food came out in a reasonable time. When it hit the table, the portions were generous and satisfying. I wish I had taken pictures, but I was too busy enjoying the moment. If you go, post your photos--I'm sure the business would appreciate it. If you've followed my reviews, you know I don't give out 4 stars often, and 5 stars are rare. This place earned that extra star because of how it made me feel--between the food, the atmosphere, and the service, it just worked. If I'm ever back in the area, I'm definitely coming back for another meal.

I ordered the Beer Battered Mushrooms, but after some time, I guess the call from the kitchen said they were out of it. So...I settled for the onion rings. It was fair. So there I was, just having a Coke to drown the greasy onion rings with the TV at the bar broadcasting some inconsequential program, on an idle afternoon at an uneventful roadside eatery. Mel & Faye's isn't just a diner to us... it's home…read more This place will always hold a special spot in our hearts. We moved out of state, and we still haven't found...and probably never will find...another place quite like Mel & Faye's. It's the food, the drinks, the service, but more than anything, it's the people. My go-to is the cranberry walnut salad with chicken (so good!), and Sean loves the sourdough burger. The food is always great, but honestly, we come back for the atmosphere and the people who make this place feel like family. Mary is always a hoot as our server, and we absolutely love the entire staff. Bart and Maura have created something really special here, and we appreciate them more than they know. Every time we come back to town, one of the things we look forward to most is walking through those doors, seeing familiar faces, catching up, and feeling right at home again. We miss everyone when we're away, but it makes our visits that much more special. Mel & Faye's will always be our home away from home.

We were there for about four hours.... everybody left except me and my friend both of us females. As the night went on however, the locals came in. We had some big broad, flipping us off across the way while we were just sitting at the bar, and it got way worse. The two gentlemen sitting next to us were there from work and it was their first time as well. They were pipe fitters and they were staying at adjacent hotel, they were going to give us a ride home. For no reason at all about 10 Cowboys hats came our direction and threatened all four of us. We were backed up against the wall as they all stood up and walked over our direction. My friend and I got up and walked around, my friend kept saying this is horrible. We didn't do anything wrong. We keep asking the bartender what's going on why is this happening ??? My friend asked some guy are you just gonna let these guys jump us? The bartender said she was shutting it down told us that we needed to go around and get out of here from the back.. we called 911,four times!!! and no one showed up. We feared for our lives, fortunately one of the locals told us to sit by him and not move and assisted in getting a stranger to drive us all the way back to our hotel. We were so worried about the other two men who did absolutely nothing and were getting punked by the local hillbillies. We have no idea whatever happened to the two guys. We ended up going to their hotel and explaining in case they didn't show up from work the next day. I highly recommend that no one attends this bar unless you live in that neighborhood and know everybody; it's clear Lodi people should be NOT be recommending it. It's a safety concern at this point. And this probably won't be the last time.

First thing you noticed is the bread was not toasted at all. It had a couple of brown stripes on one side only. When you open the sandwich, the lettuce was wilted, and the tomato was absolute mush, like it had been old and laying around for hours. The worst thing, though, were the avocados. 2/3 of the avocados were dark,gray or black. Obviously not a good avocado, but yet they managed to cut it up and serve it. And the last thing that was disappointing, was the fact that the bacon was in one wad in the center of the sandwich and not laid out on the sandwich. Just a wad that had to be disassembled and spread out. It looks and feels and sounds to me that that kitchen needs some discipline. Don't use old food! If the client asked for mayo, put it on the damn sandwich like they requested. Everything points to that cook being in one heck of a hurry as it was obvious everything was done down and dirty with little to no concern or care for presentation or freshness. I called this evening to let the manager know and I will call the general manager tomorrow. I believe they said his name was Joe? This is my second time at Maguire's as a local and I'm absolutely not impressed. There's a sign up when you walk in that says please wait to be seated. There are a couple of benches there so I sat down and waited yet I could not get the attention of anybody. It wasn't that busy. A few people walked in and managed to get seated. I talked to a couple of the waitresses asking if I could check on my to go order and was met with I'll get back to you. Eventually, I cornered one of the gals and there was my to go order sitting in a bag next to their Station. Something needs to be done about promptness also and managing and monitoring that entry station. I sure hope they can pick up their service and pick up their quality of food. Mike Vogt
