A week ago I ordered & picked up a meatball sub from Sals...when I got home, this is what they gave me! I called right away & spoke to the lady that made the sandwich...she said she knew it was burnt & owed me a free one...I called yesterday to collect the free one & the owner said he knew all about it & refused a free one,only offered a discount! That's rediculous & a terrible way to do business...hes lost at least 1 customer over a cheap sandwich most likely many more potential customers...guess he just doesn't care. read more

Swept us off our feet... lol! We visited Sal's Brooklyn Pizza after hearing about them on Yelp. We stopped in last night (8/25/2017) around ten minutes until eight. Sal's closes at 8 pm. We walked in and asked the lady if it was to late to order a pizza and she told us it would take a few minutes to make the pizza and if we wanted to eat here to just take a seat. The lady never missed a beat, she was extremely nice and made us feel right at home. Which is rare anymore as you walk into other establishments at ten minutes until they close and they act rude, bothered and inconsiderate. Not hear folks! The lady that took our order was very courteous and didn't seemed bothered at all that it was near closing time. She took our order (We ordered it to go.) and we took a seat in the corner nearest the door so we could take in the entire establishment. It is a smaller sized restaurant with approximately ten or so tables. Its decorated in "chef" decor with a few pictures of what I think was the Brooklyn Bridge on the walls. It was nice and extremely clean from floor to ceiling. As we waited for our order, I believe it was called a Sal's Special, we watched as Sal kneaded the dough and stretched it out to place it on the pan. Watching him make the pizza in front of us we noticed that the items going on the pizza looked to be extremely fresh and very appetizing. Anticipation for this pizza-pie was most definitely building now as he took the long pizza board and placed our pizza in the oven. The clock was now ticking and we couldn't wait. There was one other couple in the restaurant finishing up their meal, but as they started leaving a few more people quickly joined us. All of this,well after 8 pm and the "open" sign going dark. Sal and his staff never batted an eye and took all the new orders and laughed and joked with everyone. (The newest customers having come into the restaurant were from Brooklyn.) We even heard Sal ask a member of the staff about making the pizza sauce. (Sounded like they make it from scratch to me.) The atmosphere with Sal, the lady that took our order and the newest member of the staff was jovial and extremely contagious. It was pleasant and a very nice change of pace to see someone that genuinely enjoyed their job. The experience laughing and enjoying each other was well worth the visit alone, but we came for pizza. And our pizza was now done. We got our pie and thanked everyone for the experience and left Sal's place with everyone smiling and waving. Upon getting to the car, that pizza box was HOT! The pizza smelled awesome! We couldn't hardly wait to tear into this pizza when we lifted the lid to the box and heard imaginary trumpets blasting down from pizza heaven. The large slices of pepperoni and sausage, the onions, the green peppers, the CHEESE... our mouths were watering. We quickly left and took our pizza to where we planned to eat it a few miles away. The steam was still rolling off the pizza as we took our first bite. It was well worth the wait! This isn't your average pizza chain styled pizza! These were big enough slices to fold in half and devour or if you chose the two hand method and devour it from tip to crust. It was hot, fresh, delicious and gone in a flash! Let me say, I've driven many, many, many of hours for a slice of my favorite Quad City Styled pizza from my hometown in Illinois. And now, when the craving for a Brooklyn Pizza hits, we know exactly where we are heading... to Sal's Brooklyn Pizza... for a pizza and a smile. read more

BEWARE!!! The owner and staff here are very cold despite the food being good. I would give this a zero star if I could. Being a local Google guide I like to go to family owned businesses, supporting locals and not fast food chains. We should have gone to Pizza Hut 50' away. Sharing this on Yelp for all the Yelpers. Don't waste your time. Give your money to someone who CARES and APPRECIATES your patronage. We came in at 7pm, ordered for dine in and had no where to sit. We sat in the "Waiting Area" because the tables were all dirty or full. Once they finally cleaned the tables we moved to sit down. After 45minutes of waiting, I asked when we were going to get our food, as we watched several other customers come in, order, AND EAT after we had been waiting. The owner then told me we were sitting in the wrong place. HELLO!? I've never been here before and all the tables were dirty. I sat in the only area that was accessible, which I guess means I don't get a table. The owner knows he is wrong otherwise he wouldn't have replied "I've been waiting for this review" from my friend on his Google review. 1 child saw a "Free candy" dish and took 1 of each. I told him no, out them back, because no candy before dinner. The owner started complaining about it. WHY HAVE A FREE CANDY DISH IF YOU ARE GOING TO COMPLAIN WHEN SOMEONE TAKES FROM IT!? In case they aren't aware, there's a pandemic happening and although we are all vaccinated, we wore our masks indoors as has been recommended by the CDC guidelines. Not one person in the building, outside my party, wore masks. Such a sad state of affairs. We had waited all day, planned around this place even, to be treated in such a disrespectful fashion. The owner had the nerve to say "for next time..." Buddy, there won't be a next time. I even went out in a limb and wished them well as we left only to be given looks of disrespect, discontent, and plain old rude. read more

Although it's an unassuming location, Sals is definitely worth a stop. All the food places in downtown Murphy were busy, so I figured we stop somewhere on the way out of town and since we were in the mood for pizza, Sals it was. WHAT A DISAPOINTMENT. We had high hopes that we had found a place that makes NY style pizza. This place is over an hour from us, so I called earlier in the week to make sure they were going to be open this weekend. The gentleman on the phone stated that they would be open on Saturday, so we made plans to meet up with our friends and drive to Sal's (a 2 hour trip from their house). Saturday came and we traveled through the mountains and arrived at Sal's, eager to try some delicious pizza. When we walked in there were no other customers and no employees either. I stood at the counter patiently and looked over the menu. A woman came out from the back kitchen and walked over to the pizza oven. She opened the oven, pulled a pizza from within the oven using a pizza peal and then grabbed the pizza with both hands, like a steering wheel, rotated it and put it back into the oven. I have never seen this "technique" before for turning a pie. I then asked her if we could place an order. She gave me a "look" and told me that she was the only one working today. She said that she was busy and she already had a lot of orders and that we would have to wait till she was done to place an order. We had driven a long way to get there so we sat at a table and waited patiently. Other customers started coming in and she seemed to get annoyed. When she told them that she was the only one working, one of the customers asked if "Rich" was ok. (Rich is the owner) The woman behind the counter responded that he was fine and that he just had something to do today. Really? on a Saturday? He left this employee to run the restaurant by themselves. She was obviously not able to handle the task and was lacking in customer service skills. We continued to wait patiently at our table and I noticed she opened the pizza oven several times and rotated the pizza using the "steering wheel technique". After the third time of doing this she started adjusting the temperature on the oven (the pizza still looked uncooked and the crust was still white). It was clear that the pizza oven had not been turned on to preheat and had not reached the correct temperature yet. At that point more people came through the door and another car pulled up in front. We decided to leave and go somewhere else. I would rather have reviewed their food then their customer service and the way they run their business but there was no way this woman would have been able to prepare and cook our food properly within an acceptable time frame. My guess is that they will be out of business within a year if they don't get their act together. read more

We have been living in south for 7 years and this has been the best tasting pizza and real calzone I've tasted in a long time. They used real ricotta mozzarella. I am not giving this review on behalf of the pizza, but the service. We aren't from here and trying to find a good pizza place and the reviews were amazing! We called to make an order and after ordering our first pizza the woman on the phone tried to then just get the name of the order and hang up. We proceeded to tell her we had more to order. So, with never ordering here before, we asked questions and she then proceeded to say " I have another call coming in do you want to order anything else?" Wow! What customer service. We then came in to pick it up and she told us "it would be a little while" and we asked if we should pay now and she walked away and then mouthed the words to me "pay later". Why mouth the words to me? In most places I've ordered, you just pay and then wait. Let me clarify, the lady didn't speak in a rude tone it's just the customer service part of it. We were then waiting in the restaurant and a lady walks in and wants to order and the woman asked her "do you know what you would like?" And she said "no, I've never been here before." The women then hands her the menu and says "here's our menu" and then walks away. The lady tries to ask a question and the woman answers from the side while walking away. The lady then proceeds to leave the restaurant. But no body noticed that part did they? Then, another person asked, after order, If they should pay now. The women then said "No, I'm too busy to check you out." WHAT!? I talked to the owner and he listened and said "I'll take care of it". However, didn't apologize that we were unhappy or upset. I own a business and my husband's family has been in the pizza business for years. We would NEVER let this happen. We wouldn't expect a NY attitude to be in a nice small town like Murphy. Today while in Murphy, I stopped at Sal's Brooklyn Style Pizza for a carry out pizza. Upon arriving home I opened the box and the smell of burned crust was overwhelming. The full price pizza was black on the bottom. It was totally gross!!! The owner who cut the pizza and took my money had to know that it was so burned it was just not edible. BUT I guess when it is carry out it doesn't matter. I highly recommend NOT buying carry pizza from Sal's. It used to be so good......what happened?
