The facility itself is plain and poorly decorated. We were in a side room and the acoustics were horrible. There was one kid who talked loudly and another who had his phone turned up. Got the steak and ribs appetizer was good got the combo. Then the steak come over 50% fat and the ribs weren't good either. I got street corn which took half an hour to come out when it finally came was cold. It probably been sitting in kitchen the whole time. My wife got cheddar bacon fries they covered it ranch which she doesn't eat so it was ruined. The wait was so long we didn't send it back. Made our first visit to this restaurant on Mother's Day this past Sunday. The were extremely busy! The restaurant is a little dated but clean. The food took a little while but I expected that with how crowded they were. The ribs and chicken were amazing! The corn was fantastic and the bread delicious. And OMG the apple pie and chocolate cake were showstoppers, they were better than any dessert I've had in a few years! Sal's was highly recommended by a friend so we decided to give it a shot. I'm never super impressed by "fusion" type restaurant and I don't know if they consider themselves such but with a mixed menu of Mexican style entrees, steaks, burgers, and salads that's the kind of vibe I get. My first negative is for the water- tasted terrible. We have had this problem at several area restaurants tho so not too surprising. I switched for a sprite tho that tasted equally terrible. We started with the Jalapeño relleno which was ok, not a fan of the ranch dressing with it. I had the grilled chicken street tacos which presented really well and tasted good but kind of fell a little flat with flavor. My husband had the shrimp parilla which he really liked. The shrimp was plump and tender and tasted really good. As a side I also had the Mexican Street corn which was pretty good and really messy lol. The waitress was very sweet and responsive. We arrived in Pikeville, KY late afternoon and did a Google search for locally owned restaurants. Sal's Steakhouse came up with good reviews and looked very appetizing. Google maps lead us on a little bit of a search indicating the restaurant was in a bottom parking lot when it was uphill. Reviews and photos lead you to think it will be a more elegant dining area than you encounter when entering. To be honest I thought of going somewhere else. But, we were greeted by a friendly gentleman and decided to take a chance. We both ordered steak and it was delicious! The salad, loaded baked potato and loaded sweet potato were tasty as well. Remember many of our small and locally owned businesses are struggling with lack of staff and supplies as a result of the pandemic. read more

Facebook page was very deceiving. Pulled up and walked it to be first served ketchup tasting "salsa". It was in a salsa jar and the "salsa" wouldn't come out when I tipped over the jar. You would have thought I was at Dairy Queen getting a blizzard. Then the two meals come out. One a chicken quesadilla that look like an Aztec sacrifice, and the other was cheese fries that were covered in frozen cheese that smelled like a circus act.
