Well, the chips were good. I wouldn't exactly call it Mexican food, it would be more accurate to just call it edible.

My absolute favorite fast food. You can eat inside here too, but I much prefer to eat this comfort food on my couch with the sauces arranged around me. Put a good TV show on and it's heaven. I usually stick with burritos and tacos. I like things spicy, so I love that they offer the option to get them "hot", and they have a hot sauce in their sauce buffet. Speaking of the buffet, they have lots of options including my favorites: plenty of fresh peppers, Pico de gallo, and regular salsa sauce (which has some kick). The queso dip is good too, but you have to order it separately if you want some for your chips. The taco plate is one of my favorites, and they currently have a "fajita burrito" as a manager's special. Even though you're not eating healthy if you eat here, I'll tend to pass on the "enchilada style" option, but it is good. There seems to be a cop eating here every time I go, so that might be another reason why I tend to get take-out... not that I have committed any crimes, but I kind of feel like I'm stealing when I grab four cups of Pico de gallo. I came, I saw, I queso-ed. So nice to have a mom-and-pop Chipotle replacement in such a convenient location. My husband and I went there for a quick dinner this past week while unpacking after our move from Chicago, and we were overwhelmed with just how fresh everything is. The salsa bar is wonderful and has salsas of all persuasions and all heat levels--the spicy guacamole salsa is addictive, and I poured it on my roasted veggie burrito with every bite. My husband had the bueno and enjoyed his burrito as well. The burritos are an APPROPRIATE size, unlike other places that trick you into eating a burrito the size of a small dog. The queso dip. Oh man, the queso dip. My sister married a man from Texas. She has his mother's queso dip recipe. This is better. Perfectly smooth, a teeny bit spicy--you can amp it up with the hot sauces on the table or a hot salsa from the salsa bar if you so desire. Since each burrito comes with hot, freshly made chips, you'd be foolish not to order a 2 oz cup of queso as a side item. My husband and I, our eyes being bigger than our stomachs as per usual, ordered the 8 oz size and struggled to finish it--but finish it we did. No cheese left behind should be on our family crest. The 8 oz is probably a good size for 3 or 4 people to share, or for two people if you're splitting a burrito--but I'm not capable of eating much at one sitting, so I'm probably not the best person to ask about portion sizes. The employees were friendly and the food came out fast. We were in and out in a half hour. The location is a little bit hidden behind Waraji off of Duraleigh, but parking is plentiful. Several families with kids there--a great place for a quick family dinner that, if you don't eat 4 ounces of queso, can actually be reasonably healthy! Certainly better for you than fast food. I will certainly return--and when I have a housewarming party I'm going to get a bucket of their queso and chips to serve! read more

We recently discovered this location of Salsa Fresh which is pretty convenient to us. I am a big fan. The food here comes out quickly and tastes fresher than many of the other quick Mexican places in Raleigh. My favorite thing here is the chicken quesadilla, it comes in a reasonable size portion (still pretty big) and is served with chips. Josh has had the burritos and said they were good as well as the chicken taquitos. The burritos are not as large as many of the other quick Mexican places in the area, but that's not an issue as burritos are usually impossible for me to finish. Service is friendly and they have a really good salsa bar that is right up there with Chubby's - lots of different salsas in a variety of heat levels. I am a fan of all things spicy so there are plenty for me to choose from, as well as many for Josh who cannot handle his foods as spicy. They also have hot sauce available on the tables to add to your food. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. Overall a great spot for quick & cheap Mexican. read more

Been coming here for years. My go to Mexican takeout joint. I'm talking like over a 100 times. Here's my tip: GET: the nachos with pork and get pintos rather than black beans. SKIP: anything with shrimp. the shrimp are those "baby" or "Dutch" shrimp that are in a word tasteless and kind of freak me out. The food here is much more fun to eat at home with a dos equis rather than under their flourescent lights-- but just make sure you get home quick before your homemade nacho chips get soggy! read more

Ok, ok, ok where should I begin. I will start at my hunger level so you can get a gist of how filling this food is. I had worked an 8 hour shift and went and got my nails done and managed to survive just enough to make it into salsa fresh and order. Also I was with my best friend. Upon entering everything looked good. The atmosphere was nice. We ate in. It was a few people there but it wasn't noisy. The employees were very helpful with explaining everything on the menu that we had questions about. We settled on 2 different things and we split it. The steak fajita burrito and the chicken nachos. The food DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Everything was fast and tasted delicious. I did favor the burrito over the nachos because all of the flavors married together. Nothing like I've ever tasted. The steak was slow cooked and tender. They had a fresh salsa bar that I enjoyed. The nachos were loaded with chicken, guacamole, sour cream and pico. The only thing is that after awhile the chips got soggy and also they melt the cheese on top of the nachos and that made it a lil hard to eat. We didn't even finish eating the nachos so the portion was large. If you like chipotle then you will LOVE Salsa Fresh. It is safe to say that I will be returning. read more

Before Qdoba and Moes, there was Raleigh's Salsa Fresh. Burritos are the specialty: choose your fillings, then choose how you want it: plain, enchilada style (smothered in sauce and cheese), or chimichanga style (fried). I personally find the plain burrito a little boring (even with one of the freshly made salsas), but everything seems fresh and quite. So delicious! Salsa Fresh definitely lives up to the "fresh" in their name. I've been there several times, always trying something new, and have never been disappointed. I've watched them making their tortilla chips, and it's about as fresh as you can get. They cut up flour tortillas into chip-sized pieces and immediately drop them into the fryer. The staff has always been friendly, and are generally in a cheerful mood. The salsa bar has a variety of fresh homemade sauces. Also today I walked in and two of the three workers behind the counter were not wearing masks. Come on, you're in food service!! Went to find something else today. While I was home in Raleigh recently, I HAD to visit one of the best restaurants in Raleigh, Salsa Fresh!! Seriously the food here is exactly as the title suggests... FRESH. I love their burritos, and I always get mine "enchilada style", with sauces and cheese melted on top. The place itself isn't that exciting, it's located in a sterile strip mall, but the food more than makes up for the lack of attention to decor. Hey, I can just assume that they would have rather spent their time focusing on perfecting the food... which they did. If you are in the Triangle, and you love Mexican, this is THE place to go. Salsa Fresh used to be one of my regular lunchtime go-to's, and I only stopped going there because I needed some variety. But I still go back there regularly and I'm never disappointed; the food is fresh, the salsa is yummy and there's enough variety on the menu to make me feel like I'm not eating the same thing all the time. Ok, we stopped in there to grab some takeout before a kid's baseball championship game (way to go, city champions!). Fast, good, just what we wanted, right? Well, other than serving meat to a vegetarian, sure! I bit into my burrito (yeah, yeah, my fault for not opening it up and double-checking, pfft), and lo and behold...chicken. Loving guy that he is, my man drove all the way back (ok, it wasn't THAT far) and got me a replacement. The wrapping and bag had been marked correctly; they just hadn't made what was marked on the wrapper or the bag. This kind of error is really not acceptable in any way, shape, or form to me. I didn't really know what to expect walking in to this place but I was pleasantly surprised with everything. They have a pretty simple menu but cover all of the basic mexi food needs. They make their own chips and have a nicely sized salsa bar with plenty of options. We ordered some guac to go with the chips with not expectation of it being good. It was fresh, nicely seasoned and delicious. I got the bean & cheese burrito with chicken enchilada style. It was very good. And huge! I barely made a dent. Granted, I are a lot if the yummy chips beforehand. I'm very excited to see that they serve breakfast burritos as well. I will definitely go back soon to try one. read more

Love the food here. It is always fresh as promised and full of flavor. I love the tostada and have one nearly every week. The quality is consistently good week after week. WOW! Amazing dinner. I ordered the fish tacos with rice, no beans. I grew up eating what my family refers to as taco food. Authentic mexican in other words, recipes passed down from Rosie, who made the best rice and guacamole. Their rice is simple, no extra ingredients but perfect and the guacamole was so good too, paired with their fresh chips. It's sad we were only visiting :( I'd be a regular if I lived in NC! Salsa Fresh scores high marks for taste, freshness and a scrumptious selection of salsa!! I have been coming here for years and hit this little restaurant up whenever I get anywhere near the area. The place is impeccably clean and they are always grilling up fresh, perfectly seasoned chicken. Try the Buenos Burrito and if you like cheese, get it Enchilada Style. Only downfall is the price. This place has been around for a few years, and really hasn't changed much in terms of what they serve and the quality. It's a great place for a quick bite, pretty tasty/authentic. Honestly, I've probably had my body weight in their rice and beans- I really like their pintos. Their burritos are quite large and filling, and the chips and salsa are always on point. Its one of the few places around that serve tamales, so that was another "usual" order of mine from here. It's my favorite of the more casual Mexican lunch places around, and I'm glad to see on a recent trip back that it's still the same great place it's been since the start. read more

I went here for my first time today. My boyfriend and I spent $30.00 on food for the two of us. I walked out the door and noticed my bag seemed a little light. We got a burrito meal, side chips with Pico and guac, (even though the burrito comes with side chips and Pico and guacamole) and loaded nachos with chicken. My nachos didn't have anything but guacamole, sour cream and tomatoes on it. We had no sides of chips, and the burrito was fine. I walked back in to ask for our stuff, and immediately the staff was scolding me. I got up to the front, and just asked for he rest. Told her it was no a problem, and I appreciate them fixing it. The older lady, the cashiers Mom, pointed at me and called me a "punto" to her daughter and the young man. The young man also looked at me and said that. They just figured I wouldn't know what it meant. They still didn't give me my side chips and toppings. They upcharged me for a 1oz side of Pico, literally $5. I was called ugly names in Spanish four different times before I left. Still don't have the food I ordered, spent $30, and very disappointed. I still told them thank you, and made no scene. My boyfriend did call back and explain the awful service, and the young girl said "um, no, that's my mom and she would never do that," but whatever. This restaurant hands down outshines chain order-and-sit Mexican places (e.g. moe's, chipotle). It just tastes better.. fresher.. authentic. Made by those who intimately know the cuisine. D.E.L.I.C.I.O.S.O. Most all menu items come with chips and their salsa bar is something to get excited about. The vegetarian burrito is loaded with beans, rice, and sauteed onions and peppers. It's not your wimpy beans, cheese, and rice number. It actually has vegetables!! One can choose to add a meat as well, if that strikes your fancy. I'm really in love with that burrito and have only deviated from my choice once. The last time I went there I tried a chicken tamale and I was impressed! Cooked perfectly in the corn husk.
