Three of us came for lunch today. As always, we were seated quickly and our waiter came quickly to take our drink orders. Shortly after that, chips and 3 salsa dishes arrived. I appreciate they give each person a dish. One of our group got a fajita burrito and loved it. She took home left overs . I got a macho burrito for the first time. Rice, beans cheese and shredded meat was inside a huge burrito shell that was covered with pico and cheese. It was good and I could only eat half of it, but I would not get it again. There was not much meat at all and I love their shredded meat ( picadillo) . The third got a hamburger and fries. It came on a huge plate with tons of fries that were nicely seasoned. They had some new decorations and as usual the service was excellent. We will return! read more

This is your typical Mexican restaurant--by which I mean it's busier than a bus station on free-transfer day, with every table occupied by people pretending they didn't just inhale a basket of chips in under three minutes. The décor is exactly what you'd expect: bold colors, festive patterns, enough sombreros on the walls to outfit a small parade, and at least one plastic cactus that looks mildly judgmental. Servers weave through the chaos like Olympic athletes, mariachi music battles the sound of sizzling fajitas, and somehow your food always arrives piping hot even though the entire place looks one guacamole shortage away from full meltdown. The menu is less a menu and more a novella--pages upon pages of every dish you've ever heard of and at least twelve you definitely haven't. It's a laminated labyrinth where every combo comes with three other combos, and the options multiply the longer you stare at them. By the time you reach page six, you're questioning your own identity and whether you even remember what you wanted in the first place. It's overwhelming, and just a little suspicious--because no kitchen should be able to make that many things unless they've unlocked some sort of culinary time dilation. The server sort of has your attention when it's time to order entrées--they hover just long enough for you to say your piece before disappearing back into the restaurant's gravitational swirl. But once the food is delivered, they become nearly impossible to spot, like they've slipped into a parallel dimension where diners can't see them. Trying to wave them down for anything--napkins, a refill, a moment of acknowledgment--turns into a full-scale quest. The food is classic, predictable Mexican-restaurant fare--perfectly fine, nothing mind-blowing, the kind of dishes that taste exactly how you expect because they've been made the same way since forever. This place was fantastic. This is definitely one of my new favorite Mexican spots. We came out here to go to a bakery across the street- Brecotea. We decided we wanted to get a bite before grabbing dessert, and found Torero's. It was a random saturday and we noticed it was packed so we assumed it must be popular. For starters, the service was great. Even with a busy restaurant, we were seated quickly and all the staff were friendly and attentive. The food also did not take too long. The portions- HUGE. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures- but these were family sized plates. The price wasn't even over the top, they were regular prices for huge amounts of food. Every plate was satisfying and hit the spot. This was my first time ordering a lamb shank at a Mexican restaurant, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection and SUPER tender. They even gave you a bowl of the sauce on the side to pour on your rice. We wanted to try something different from our usual so we ended up at Torero's and wow.. The Cary location is incredibly spacious and I love the theme and atmosphere they've created. It's fun, vibrant, and really adds to the dining experience. Our server was phenomenal. He gave us amazing recommendations and we decided to order the two dishes he suggested. Came in for a quick drink Sunday around noon and we were met with a fairly full restaurant. We were greeted in a timely manner at the door by a sweet girl, and service was okay at best from that point on. The lack of music, TVs being turned off, and interactions with staff don't build the lively/fun/warm/welcoming atmosphere I would expect for a typical Mexican Restaurant. The bar is too tall for the stools, so if you're coming to eat i wouldn't try sitting at the bar. We had difficulties reaching the straws on our drinks from our seats. The margarita mix is not made fresh in house -- for those who love a true margarita, this is not the restaurant for you. When we asked who I assume was a bartender what was in the margarita, the answer was "Tequila." From an allergy/cross contamination standpoint alone, that is concerning. There were no prices on the drink menu -- quite odd for a very casual restaurant. At $15 per, it's hard to justify when I could make the same at home with a store bought mix, or visit a local competitor for a higher quality drink/experience at the same price. I can't comment on the food as I didn't try, but I am not inclined to return to do so. Overall very disappointed in the experience -- I came to try what could be my next regular spot, and instead found value in driving further for better. read more

Margaritas were heavy on alcohol, pretty good for 2/3$ im not sure if it just wasnt the right day and time however when i went the service was slow, not good at all. Took them 20 mins to make a dessert that they ended up telling me they couldn't even make. read more

I didn't know there was a Torero's in this neck of the woods! I used to go to one in Durham about 20 yrs ago that had fantastic mole sauce. I was happy to see it on the menu here. The place was hopping since it was lunch and it has the typical decor that so many Mexican restaurants around here have. I ordered the grande lunch size which is two enchiladas with the chicken filling. I was really looking forward to tasting that mole sauce that I remember from way back when. Meanwhile I was enjoying their salsa and chips. In fact, I'd give them 5 stars just for the salsa! My entree arrived and the plate was screaming hot so I had to hold off a bit. Finally I was ready to dig in and sadly the mole didn't has that same flavor as I remember and the color wasn't as dark either. It was kind of bland. The shredded chicken was a bit on the dry side and didn't have any grilled onions and and peppers inside as I remembered either. I Really tried to like it and make my taste buds think it was as I remembered, having had it so many times before way back when, but sadly it didn't. What a let down. Don't get me wrong, it was ok, just not as good as it used to be. My waiter was super nice and attentive as he could be given how busy they were. If I were around this area of Cary again I might stop in again and try something else on the menu rather than the mole. read more

My friend brought me here for dinner since I wanted something delicious: let me tell you I wasn't disappointed. The decor of the restaurant and clientele informed me that the flavors are not what I should expect of stereotypical Cary Mexican restaurant. We decided to skip the fajitas, even though the sizzling and smells tempted us and thought to go big. We ordered the the braised Lamb and Birria tacos: I'm still following that trend. Even though the Tacos didn't advertised with cheese, the server suggested it and I knew it was to be. Both were absolutely fantastic! One was a slab of lamb flesh, juicy off the bone goodness. A rich red sauce and my friend was an excellent in choosing the Chile poblano to accompany. The other being 3 tacos with a decadent Mexican au jus. The tortillas were struggling to carry the succulent meaty goodness. The server was a super nice and polite guy, sorry I forgot your name! Stopped by for a quick lunch. Got seated right away. Service was excellent. Super friendly and efficient. Had two people took care of me. One brought chips and salsa. One took my order. They was on top of refills of my Melon Agua Fresca which I appreciate. The Melon (cantaloupe flavor) Agua Fresca was super delicious and refreshing! For my meal o got the Burrito rellano. It was sooooo good. I haven't had one since I lived in California. Definitely recommend! I'll be back for it again. Yum the atmosphere of the restaurant is great! It's also a half sports bar. It's been at least 6 years since visiting Torero's which was one of our go to places until we moved across town. We always loved the warm ambiance and super friendly staff. Nothing has changed. The chicken fajitas were superbly seasoned and the shrimp had pleasant pineapple overtones and was perfectly cooked. Sadly disappointed in our dinner. Haven't been in a while and remembered a good experience in the past. Do not order anything with seafood - felt like I was eating rubber - both shrimp and scallops. Minced up and obviously cheap, frozen seafood - low quality. Everything just had a very bland taste -was quite surprised. It's okay. The beans and rice are good and they give you a giant plate of food. I feel like the go to items to get are the fajitas or the giant plate combo meals. Also the chips come out hot and the salsa is pretty good(I'm a sucker for chips and salsa). It's very "tex mex" and that's okay. It had been years since I went here but I decided to go last night. I got Chile verde, the sauce had a good flavor but was still a little bland. The meat was different than I would expect as it was pork loin cooked separately, cut into cubes, and covered in sauce rather than a fattier cut slowly braised in the sauce. I ate it all so it wasn't bad but I'd probably order something else next time. I was a little disappointed that the tortillas that came with it were flour by default. (Note to self: remember to request corn tortillas even if not asked). One daughter ordered el pastor tacos which were very tasty, and the other daughter ordered a combo plate or something. I don't think she was super impressed but she ate it. The service was a mix of good and bad. Our server got us some extra things like an extra plate for my 2.8 y/o and I had requested some spicier salsa(which was spicier but had no flavor) which she got quickly without issue but then never gave us any drink refills. I'd probably give them 2.5 stars but don't think they deserve a 2 so I'll round up. read more

Pretty good Mexican food and so convenient to our house. They have some good vegetarian options, including the spinach Mexican pizza. I enjoyed the beans, spinach, and cheese on top of fried flour tortillas. The guacamole seemed very fresh too! My boyfriend ordered shrimp tacos, but when we got home we realized they gave us fish tacos. The fish tacos were still good too. We will definitely be back for more. read more

Flavorful, delicious food with a variety of mouth-watering options to pick from. I especially like the pictures on their menu showing some of the meals and the mexi-veggie section. The menu is long but is organized well. We have ordered the macho burrito, vegi-chiladas, cheese dip, etc. Everything we have ordered has tasted great. I really like how the beans are served in a little tortilla shell. This reduces waste while still keeping the food from mixing. Only things I did not see on the menu were desserts and a side of chips. I am unsure if they have desserts. If they do, I recommend adding them to the menu for their online ordering. I also would suggest adding a side of chips as an option. We have ordered carry out and delivery from here. I do recommend delivery over carry out. The first and only time we ordered carry out, the order was accurate and tasted great but we had to wait a long time to get it. I believe the order was ready but apparently they only had one person that could get it. The employee working the cash register said another employee could get it and that I could wait by her. The employee that was responsible for getting my order was having a long conversation with a customer. I do not know what they were discussing, but the employee may have been resolving a concern since the customer did not seem to be ordering and was sitting at a clean table. Eventually, the employee went to get my food and then I paid and left. I would certainly eat their food again since it was very good, however, I do think they should have a more efficient process for picking up carry out orders. Another employee should have been able to walk to the back, grab my order, and bring it to me. Service impression was flat like a white flour tortilla tortilla bread, no one seemed very interested or came to actively check on me. Which is fine, I'm not needy, but doesn't necessarily want me to come back. The prices are fair, higher than a hole in the wall, but lower than a proper fine dining establishment. I didn't like that they had strategically hidden the sanitation score of 90 behind a bunch of flowers. Complimentary chips and salsa of course. Average salsa, not as addictive as some places. Then the chicken fajita came out sizzling like a proper show stopper grabbing everyone's attention like a red Ferrari whooshing through the neighbourhood. If it doesn't come out oozing sizzling hot I tell them Re-take, Action, Go! The refried beans and the rice come out in little edible bowls. I bet they save a ton of work on dishes serving it that way! The chicken was good, most importantly not dry. I don't know who insists on putting a leaf of lettuce on a fajita. You get sour cream, guacamole, salad and cheese on a side plate. The guacamole wasn't mashed properly and was like one big chunk. I've ordered from this restaurant several times, this time they wouldn't answer the phone so I had to order in person the portions were smaller than ever and the food was cold. There is not the welcoming feeling that there used to be, they used to be very welcoming however, I guess that's not the case anymore. It's a shame that this place that is so popular among the neighborhood is changing their attitude towards their customers. Unfortunately this isn't the first time the order wasn't what was expected the discount I was promised from that mistake was never given to me. If I could give 6 stars, I would! We go to Torero's practically on a weekly basis. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. Never have I been to a restaurant that so consistently produces beautiful, tasty plates of food. Great lunch and drink specials everyday, and the best hot chips and salsa! I also can't emphasize enough how nice the entire staff is. Everyone, from the servers to the cashiers, always go out of their ways to give us a pleasant experience and make us feel welcome and comfortable. Anyone who doesn't try Toreros is sleeping on both the best service and Mexican cuisine in town. They've got us as repeat customers for life! I LOOOOOOOVE this mexican resturant!! It is my favorite in the RDU area hands down. The chips and salsa is average but the guacamole is superb. The portion sizes are HUGE! My absolute favorites are the Carne Asada, the bacon wrapped shrimp, anything with picadillo in it (pork and beef mixture), and the Chili Relleno. The chili relleno, which is my all time favorite, is not drenched in ranchero sauce like everywhere else. They make a light tomato onion sauce which is delicious. Deadpool would love their Chimichangas! The burritos are so huge, it takes real comittment to finish one. The fajita burrito is the best but its too big for me to eat solo. There is a special every night for about $8-9 dollars. Its a super deal. Tuesdays are TACO Tuesdays and tacos are $1.00. Sundays they have a roaming Mariachi band. They have a full bar and their Margheritas are really, really good. They carry Mexican beer as well. Come early because they stay busy!! read more
