When I moved to LA, her class was my favorite of all the ones that I tried. Her class offers all of these things that are nearly impossible to find in one teacher/class: 1. Class is technically challenging, but she offers a variety of levels, so there's a class for everyone. 2. Leigh truly cares about each of her students and is kind and patient, but she also knows exactly when to push. 3. Leigh is an experienced and knowledgable teacher who expertly crafts classes that make sense (i.e., the barre builds on itself and connects to the center). And if you take multiple classes from her, you'll see that her classes build on each other as well! This is an INVALUABLE skill and asset that not all teachers can provide. 4. Leigh's combos are the perfect mix of dancey, technically challenging, beautiful, and FUN. 5. Leigh puts a lot of time and effort into finding a variety of awesome music. She even features special music in her Halloween and holiday classes! 6. If you take Leigh's class on Zoom, it's truly one of the best around. She is INCREDIBLY accommodating when it comes to her Zoom students; she's always checking in to see if there are questions in the "home studios," and offers modifications for EVERY combo for those of us with less space. She also offers encouragement and corrections to her Zoom students (a rare find these days)! 7. Her website is also super clear and easy to navigate and class registration is very smooth! In summary, I HIGHLY recommend Leigh's class; she and her community are so welcoming, and I can't say enough good things about her skills as a teacher (and you will likely be distracted by her high developpes when she demonstrates - she is a wonderfully inspiring role model and dancer!). Professionalism - 5 stars Patience - 5 stars…read more I wanted to do something fun on my mom's birthday and we decided to have a 1-hr private lesson for our group of 6 ppl (4 adults + 2 kids). I called and spoke with Alessia and she was very patience answering to all my questions. We are interested in learning ballroom dance and she said we can tell her what we wanna learn at the time of the lesson. The location we went was 121 Weaverly in Pasadena. The location was easy to find (10 mins walking distance from old Pasdena town) and my mom chose to learn Waltz. Alessia was our instructor and she was trying to teach us as much as she can within the hour time. She was nice, professional, and patience with all of us. It was a very pleasant experience for all of us.

The small class sizes mean personal attention and getting to know fellow students. The environment is supportive while also enourgaging you to challenge yourself. Taking classes twice a week has kept me in shape and I've progressed past where I had ever imagined starting as an adult with no previous ballet training. There are performances twice a year for those who would like to participate and always a lot of fun and gives students a goal to work towards and to demonstrate what they've learned. Purchased a package for 10 lessons for salsa classes taught by Arlene, a salsa expert, instructor, choreographer and a co-owner of the dance studio. The instructions were clear & at a good pace. Heck, even I can follow along. As each class progresses, she'll go a bit further teaching you other steps & moves and how to incorporate them so it will actually look like salsa dancing. The classes are a lot of fun. The others in the class are very friendly and also there to have fun. If I have any gripes, it would be for a couple of people who can't seem to follow Arlene's easy to understand instructions. Other than that... this class is totally worth taking. It's a great form of exercise and the hour goes back rather quickly. It's something fun to get out of your comfort zone and you're probably finding your new "thing" Contact her and sign up!

After leaving a couple places that she outgrew or weren't a good fit (and doing trial classes at many other studios in the area), we are SO grateful to have found this place. It took us awhile to discover since "ballet" isn't in the name, but we have been here over a year and my daughter's abilities have progressed wonderfully. Public Review Statements - Yelp/Google and Peer Hostility Context…read moreDate: August 05, 2025 Public Review for Yelp/Google: I attended private and group ballet sessions at Pasadena Dance Theatre (PDT) from October 2024 to April 2025. I am an educator and professional dancer with decades of experience, and I came seeking quality training. Unfortunately, what I encountered was a deeply troubling environment. The instructor I worked with, Julia Ortega, repeatedly failed to provide structured, technical ballet instruction during private sessions. Instead, she used the time I paid for, more than $6,500 total, to gossip about colleagues and other dancers. She also made repeated racially charged remarks, including derogatory comments about Black women such as Michelle Obama and me. One of the most dangerous incidents occurred when I was deliberately locked inside PDT's alarmed building. My shoes were moved to an office to make it appear I had left. This act placed me at physical risk, and when reported to the Pasadena Police Department, a report was taken without an arrest. I believe this reflects the broader racial bias and institutional neglect that occurred at PDT. I later learned internal staff dismissed my formal complaint with the note: 'Snooze and ignore.' Pattern of Peer Hostility and Complicity: There was a consistent atmosphere of peer hostility during classes. A woman named Kathy frequently belittled me, even announcing in front of others that fishnet tights are 'slutty', an apparent attempt to shame and humiliate. This behavior spanned years, including previous experiences at the Pasadena Conservatory of Dance. Despite my visible technical progress, regularly acknowledged by others, this hostility persisted and was ignored by instructors. Instructor Julia Ortega, instead of maintaining professional standards, appeared to absorb the toxic energy of the group. Her behavior toward me deteriorated, even though I was paying her for private sessions and supported her personally with gifts and supplements. She treated me with contempt and ultimately placed me in physical danger without remorse. PDT's leadership, including Ashleigh Doede, did not address any part of this misconduct, even when directly notified. Pasadena Dance Theatre may appear to offer professional training, but the experience I received was unsafe, unethical, and racially hostile. I do not recommend this school to anyone seeking legitimate ballet instruction or respectful treatment. The organization lacks the artistic integrity and human decency necessary to represent ballet as a fine art.

We had no prior dance experience but Evelyn made us feel so comfortable right away and we had a really great time in each lesson. She is a highly knowledgeable instructor and was incredibly patient with both of us. She responded promptly to emails and texts and was willing to work with our busy schedules to coordinate lesson times. Evelyn totally blew us away in what she was able to teach us in just one lesson! She started out with basics and built on them with each lesson. Evelyn put her instructions in terms we could understand and didn't overwhelm us with technicalities. Our experience was wonderful from start to finish. When the big moment came and we were on the dance floor in front of all our guests, I think we looked pretty fantastic.
