What a fun discovery for us, even though many famous speed drivers from Bonneville have been coming for years! This place is popular with locals and if I lived here I would be one of them, weekly if not daily! The walls are full of autographed speed photos. The food has a handmade taste. My huevos were spectacular. Our table also ordered a hamburger, it was good to the last bite! All the workers were family and the owner has been cooking in Wendover since 1984!

This family owned and operated place has really good food. Service was fantastic in this small diner.

Was told about this place by a local at Tona Vista golf course In Wendover Nv. I have been coming to Wendover for years and as small as it is, didn't know of the little gem. We ate there and came back the next day to try something different. Not shy with the proteins in the tacos and other menu items. could use a little more flavor but the chili verde is well seasoned. Great price for what you get. Will definitely frequent the Salt Flat Cafe next visit to Wendover.

Checked out Salt Flat's café recently & It was amazing! Definitely a hidden gem in the city. It's slightly southwest of the casinos. The chips & salsa came out quickly after we sat down. The salsa was really spicy! I couldn't handle much of it. It had good flavor just really spicy. My boyfriend ordered the Huevos Rancheros with carne asada. His only complaint was that he wishes the beans were on top of the chips instead of under the chips. He felt like it was hard to get to them until he ate the chips down more. He also ordered one single carne asada taco & he said he really liked this! Said the carne asada was cooked to perfection. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice & beans. This plate was massive! The sauce was dripping off the sides. It ended up coming with 3 enchiladas. More than I could finish by myself for sure! I'm not a lover of red enchilada sauce but I actually really liked their red enchilada sauce. The rice & beans were good. Service was really quick! Portions were huge & it only cost $30 total. They do only accept cash, so be aware of that before you go.

John suggested that I eat lunch at one of the casinos, except I am horrifically allergic to cigarette smoke and very quickly realized- absolutely no. So- I landed at a small, authentic, Mexican restaurant. Cash only was posted on the door- check. I walked in and heard only Spanish being spoken, oh, this is going to be good! This is a hole in the wall- stand alone building, gravel parking lot with no lines- just pick your parking spot. Inside, tables were packed with families. I waited to be seated and was shown to a booth. I saw all the large plates around the various tables and EVERYTHING looked and SMELLED delicious! This was my last day in the area- with a red eye flight that evening and I am seriously thinking refried beans (which were delicious) were going to come back and bite me in the a$$. It was worth it! lol I ordered flautas- which were very tasty and the plate came with refried beans and rice- both delicious. I took my couple leftovers in the car with me since it was an hour and half ride back to the city. I loved touring the Salt Flats and this lunch spot was a huge hit for me!

Bottom line: Cash only, good food, friendly service, depressing desert ambiance, stray animals, and near the train tracks. When passing through the state line recently for a fill up, we decided to stop for breakfast. We arrived at 10:01 a.m. and were the first customers. Since our pup was with us, we asked if we could sit outside. The answer was yes, but we'd have to place a to-go order since there's no service on the patio. That was ok with us. Only one of the outdoor tables was in the shade so we snagged it. Shortly after, more cars started arriving and the place got pretty busy on Saturday morning. (There was a small wait when we were leaving.) The food was good, though I was surprised that 1) the breakfast came with chips and salsa that entailed flour (not corn) chips and super runny salsa, and 2) the chorizo plate didn't come with refried beans. We weren't expected to pay until we'd finished our meal, so it's kind of an honor system in that regard but helpful if you decide to order more. Around the patio are discarded appliances and trailers, some of which don't appear to have been occupied for years. We saw two (stray?) dogs and a cat as well as the passing train. The service was very friendly y hablan español. Prices were fair. Ladies' room could use some maintenance, a mirror, and a notice for employees to wash their hands. On the bright side, we didn't get sick!

It's good, it's cheap, and it's in the middle of nowhere. The service was great and the food was quick to come out. It's by no means the best Mexican food I've had, but it was a good dinner stop (We had the Pancho Plate and Chili Verde Plate). If this really is one of the best Mexican places in NV, as some have claimed in their reviews, then I feel sorry for this state. Although the food was OK, it's hard to give this place a 5 star review just because it's inexpensive Mexican food in the middle of nowhere. I'm picky about my rice and beans and just felt it was missing something. I think if I stopped here again it would just be for tacos. read more

Wendover doesn't have the greatest food. However, this is probably the best place in town. Really good and authentic Mexican food. I had the chili verde burrito. It's definitely a good 'greasy spoon'. Word of advice, they only accept cash. read more

After going to the Bonneville Salt Flats and you're hungry, you gotta try this place! The outer appearance of the building looked odd (a gas station with a dinosaur logo...okay..). Love coming here. But they used to be at exit 4 now they are at exit 1. Go south look for the pink building. I had the chorizo torta. A large toasted bun with guacamole and lettuce and tomato and onion..aaand a huge mound of chorizo. Mighty fine eatin'. Came with hot fries. Highly impressed!! Was on a LONG drive through Nevada and Utah and this place was in the middle of nowhere with a crowd of cars around it. For $14, we had bottomless soft drinks, chips and salsa, and 2 ginormous plates. (Our togo box had to be 5 lbs when we left). The food was authentic and not greasy. Would go again. read more

I'm Hispanic and this place is as close to my mom's cooking as I have been to. The portions are huge compared to most places and the price is perfect. The folks who run this restaurant are nice, down to earth, and very proud of their food. Very family friendly and love the atmosphere. It's not fancy inside or out but give this place a chance. I had the Plato de carne asada and my husband had the enchiladas. The flour tortillas where the best! Only thing keep it from being a 5 star is no beer! Maybe someday. read more

This spot is by far the most real place you can hit for 100 miles in any direction! The homemade chips and salsa are solid and the rest of the menu is the real deal if you want authentic Mexican food. Yelp truly saved me on this one, I would've never found this spot riding by on I-80 without it. Bring your appetite and CASH ONLY. read more

Awesome food, great service and a fun atmosphere. We wanted to get something descent for my birthday lunch and after reading all the reviews we figured this was the best place in Wendover. The reviews are right this place is awesome! Together with tip we spent $20 and left VERY full. I had a torta with rice and beans and my husband had an omelet both were fantastic. BIG SLIDE DOWN! How unfortunate. We used to love to eat here but something happened between June 2017 and June 2018. The chilli verde was chunks of pork in green flour sauce that tasted like flour. No chillis at all. Very unappealing dish. I had Baja chicken. The chicken breast was completely dried out and hard to chew. I made the mistake going into the women's restroom. It was filthy. I wont be going back until an owner change. read more

Loved our experience at this little hole in the wall place. It's literally attached to the side of a gas station, but the reviews made me confident to try it. The place is very casual and you can tell a local hangout spot. We were treated very nicely and the owner was great to my girls. Made them up a special plate based on what they wanted. They have mainly Mexican food, but I noticed things such as burgers, breakfast foods, chicken nuggets etc. Best part was their prices are ridiculously reasonable for what you get. Nobody was left hungry on 11 bucks for 3 people. Pretty impressive. Food was delicious. They sent us out with tons and I mean tons of chips and salsa too. I will for sure be back the next time we are in the area. read more

As good as it gets! The best ceviche tostadas I've ever had. $6 for two that included beans and rice, and chips and salsa. If you are looking for a sanitized Chi Chi's kind of place, this is not for you, this is the real deal authentic family run Mexican restaurant. I will be back. If you're looking for a quick and tasty bite on your way to Salt Lake City, the Salt Flats Cafe in West Wendover is a great option. I recently stopped by and had a delicious ham and cheese sandwich with bell peppers. The sandwich was perfectly grilled, and the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The service was friendly and efficient, and there was plenty of parking available. Overall, I was very impressed with my experience at the Salt Flats Cafe and would definitely recommend it to anyone passing through the area. read more

We were told this was the best place in town--it's where all the locals eat. We have very good Mexican food at home, so we were doubtful. I had a chicken torta with fries. It was as good as I've ever had. The price was low, and the service was fast. The atmosphere isn't great--the building looks like an abandoned trailer house. They were out of beef. And in 2017, they're cash-only. But I'd definitely try it again, if I was in the area. read more

The place appears to be a bit of a dive but give it a chance. The food is really very good. The Mexican dishes are very authentic and delicious. Portions are large yet quite reasonably priced. The "Poncho" platter has a nice selection of Mexican favorites. read more
