I know this Yelp page is for when they're at the Kensington Farmer's Market, but there is not Yelp page for when they park their truck at the corner of Old Georgetown Road and Greentree Road (every Friday year-round from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, rain or shine). Salt River Lobster is pretty much run by some dudes who are slanging fish/clams/crustaceans out of a truck for a living. I ordered a lobster tail, a pound of mussels, and a pound of Ora King Salmon filet, which all cost me about $46. $46? What? It's because that ocean grown New Zealand Ora King Salmon is like $26 per pound. Yes, it was worth it! That fishy salmony taste was amazing and exactly what I was seeking. The color, aroma, and flavors made it worth the price. I read the criticisms by other people on Yelp but can't speak on them and hopefully they're not true. I like their products and that they sell out of a truck, but not sure if they're better price-wise when compared to an Asian fresh fish market. read more

Hi Guys: I told you on Saturday in Kensington that the clam chowder I purchased the week prior was absolutely delicious! Tonight we had the swordfish and salmon both of which were very good please tell your support people in Maine that the seafood has been outstanding over the past plus 35 years. We did have one very strange occurrence with one of the two 2lb. lobsters that I purchased. I cooked both in boiling water for about ten minutes. One lobster was great and very tasty the other lobster was strange in that its interior/meat, in both legs and main body, was liquid mush almost like soup. I have never experienced anything like this. Very bizarre when the other lobster was great (its meat was firm and sweet). Wonder if you or if any other customer has ever experienced anything similar? I have been buying fish from these guys for 30years. I have never been disappointed in the seafood. Being from Boston I am used to really fresh fish and shellfish. I admit I was skeptical when my colleagues at NIH introduced me to "the fish truck" which, until 9/11 was located on the NIH campus on Fridays year round. I'm now retired but continue to enjoy all they have to offer. This Thanksgiving we're abandoning the traditional turkey and will be eating lobster instead. Who knows. I buy fish from these folks every week at the Kensington Market. They are also a go-to source for larger quantities for special occasions. I've never gotten fish or shellfish that wasn't fresh and high quality. Add to that, they are friendly, the truck is clean and never smells fishy, even in the heat of summer. Good seafood is rarely cheap, but it's worth it. And I enjoy the exchange of smiles and laughter each Saturday morning. I've also seen one of the guys bring out a lobster and show it to kids, giving them a lesson in seafood, fishing, and sustainability all at the same time. The kids (and parents) loved it. read more

Salt River Lobster is in Northern Maryland on Thursdays (Falls Rd), Fridays (Potomac) and Saturdays (Kensington). Check its website for hours and directions. I have been a loyal customer for over three years. SRL offers a wide range of seafood-- not just lobster. I have ordered the lobsters, lobster pots, mussels, rockfish, salmon, halibut, flounder and other varieties. I have never been disappointed. Top quality, always fresh, very professional, very clean, reasonable prices. During the pandemic, I have also appreciated the spacing between customers in the parking lot in front of the truck. I have purchased from these fish bandits three or four times..something isn't kosher here. They are treating their seafood with with food preservatives that must be similar to that used by low end seafood chains and mass retailers- yes it is still being used. The fish has a "fishy " taste and some I've tried a different texture - which is not indicative of fresh seafood-it should taste like the sea. These boys are not cool-the prices are high and it's not quality; their shrimp is horrible and smells medicinal and have an iodine taste which is indicative of "past the prime shellfish".. intending to purchase something and analyze it in our food chemistry lab at work. This is NOT quality fresh seafood-if you think it is you are clearly not from or accustomed to living in a coastal community where the shellfish and fish are fresh. Stay clear! read more

These guys move around in a food truck but it's VERY clean and the guys are real nice and personable. The fish is fresh and they are willing to cut it up if you need a certain size peice. I got the swordfish and it was fabulous! A little olive oil, salt and a hot pan, 3 min each side, and let it sit in the pan for 2 more min. These reviews discussing preservatives are absolute bogus. I've been buying seafood from these guys for over a decade and have never had any complaints- it's the freshest seafood I've ever had and tastes delicious! I especially recommend their wild sockeye salmon and the incredible scallops. I eat half of the things I buy from them raw and have always been impressed! read more

I recommend avoiding Salt River Lobster based on my limited experience with them over the past few years. I purchased shrimp from them about 4 years ago. The shrimp had an unusual odor when I brought them home which I eventually diagnosed as bleach. Apparently they are doctoring their seafood similar to what Food Lion did years ago. More recently, I've bought from them on rare occasions including this morning. The order for some sea scallops felt a little light when I paid for it, but you pay by the pound...right? When I came home and weighed the scallops and calculated the actual cost, I determined that they shorted me about 20%. I'm through with Salt River. These guys are crooks! read more

I saw an add on the back of a newspaper crossword puzzle for a Valentine's feast. It comes with potatoes, 2 lobsters, shrimp, mussels...all the fixings for a lobster boil AND THE POT TO COOK IT IN all for $79!!! What a great deal. We tried it and the food far exceeded the deal. That was 8 years ago and we haven't missed a Valentine's Day yet! They are friendly, helpful and the seafood is always extremely fresh. They also sell the best cocktail sauce that ever touched shrimp. It's divine!!! We love the Salt River Lobster company. They deliver excellence!!! read more
