From the minute I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome by one of the owners. He could see I was by myself and sat me at a four-top even though the place was getting busy, so I could spread out comfortably instead of sitting at the bar. That small touch of hospitality really stood out. My server, Sarahi, was fantastic, and the chopped brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries was outstanding. I live in Texas, where we take our barbecue seriously, but this place completely blew me away. The food was some of the best I've ever had, and the prices were extremely affordable for the quality. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Huntsville. Highly recommend!

Read the reviews and wanted to try this restaurant to celebrate with family. Luckily, I made reservations for a Thursday at 4:45...just in case I needed them & I did!! It was very busy for a Thursday and opens at 4:30 for dinner. It's in the Lincoln Mill and entrance is right next to a coffee place, but right up front & easy to find. We ordered the brisket fritters (4 panko crispy balls of chopped brisket mixed with chihuahua cheese blend, topped with Japanese white sauce) & the crispy Brussel sprouts (tossed in hot honey, yuzu & tamari glaze). There were enough brussel sprouts that they could easily be a side for everyone at our table. Both were cooked perfectly & flavors amazing!! For our entrees, our daughter ordered the tempura crab sandwich, my husband the bulgogi cheesesteak, our granddaughter the chicken fingers & Mac & cheese, myself & son-in-law, the brisket burnt ends and the beef tallow fries & the creamy Ginger Serrano coleslaw. We all enjoyed our meals & will definitely be back!! Wanted to order dessert, but we were all too full!! Highly recommend the brisket burnt ends!! Our server was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu & very attentive. Really enjoyed everything about this place!!

Salt Smokehouse delivered one of the more creative barbecue experiences we've had, blending traditional smoked meats with bold Asian-inspired flavors in a fresh, modern setting. We arrived around 12:16 p.m. on Juneteenth and waited only about five minutes for a table of three. Once seated, Ethan provided exceptional service from start to finish. He was friendly, knowledgeable, offered thoughtful recommendations, and took the time to answer our questions about the menu. We kicked things off with the Texas Twinkies, served with white queso, queso fresco, serrano peppers, and cilantro. They were a flavorful way to begin the meal and set the tone for what was to come. I ordered the Smoked & Grilled Pork Chops with Beef Tallow Fries and Dr. Up Bushes Baked Beans. The pork chops were thick, juicy, and generously portioned. The fries arrived piping hot with an excellent crispy texture, while the baked beans were my favorite side of the meal. The portions were substantial enough that I took one pork chop home for later. My wife chose the Smoked Beef Burnt Ends with signature upgrades of Elote Crème Corn and Sweet Potato Fries. She loved the burnt ends and commented that the only thing that could have made them better was a little more bulgogi glaze. Both upgraded sides were excellent, especially the perfectly cooked sweet potato fries. Bethany went with the Bulgogi Cheesesteak and upgraded to the Truffle Fries, which were loaded with black truffle Parmesan seasoning, truffle aioli, and white queso. The fries were rich and indulgent, and paired well with the generous cheesesteak. Like the rest of us, she ended up taking home leftovers. The portions here are impressive, the menu is refreshingly creative without losing sight of great barbecue fundamentals, and the service elevated the entire experience. If you're visiting, don't skip the Texas Twinkies, and be prepared to leave with a to-go box.

This place was recommended by a local a nominated for a Michelin star last year. The reviews are great so I had to try. Great service to start . My server was Janet and she went through the entire menu and was super friendly. Went on A Tuesday and it was already filling up at 5:30. Started with brisket fritters and had the burnt ends with gochujang peanuts and cucumber mint salad for the sides. I ordered a side of korean bbq to go with the fritters. Yummy, spicy sweet mix with the savory fritters was a nice combo. Definitely my Korean kick for bbq tonight. The gochujang was delicious on the peanuts, cucumber salad and peanuts. I the Korean bbq sauce went perfect with the burnt ends which were cooked perfect with a nice char. The only minor feedback was the fat could have been rendered a bit better. Great flavors, great service and great experience. My second 5 star in Huntsville, Nice Job!!! Thank You

Excellent BBQ and service. There was something for even our picky eaters. My daughter especially loved her triple decker grilled cheese and fries. Beautiful decor. This is definitely a place we would like to revisit!

HERE WE ARE AGAIN! Feb 20 Friday 2026. So hard to get seated here. Great food . Took me a month to get a reservation ! Used yelp to call them. Open around 1700 but many people who walk in are turned away. Located in an old converted warehouse in Huntsville Pedro at the door, no alcohol yet, waitress Ari was so helpful. Edamame in gravy, Salmon & Brisket appetizers

    Elote side was sooooo good!

We enjoyed our meal here. My favorite item was their beef tallow fries and the Bourbon ribs! Our wait time on a Saturday night was 35 minutes. It was a chilly night and they don't have a lobby so most patrons wait in their vehicles. Avoid being seated at the table closest to the door. The constant opening from people checking in created a horrible draft while eating. We loved most of our food except the smoked chicken. It was dry and lacked flavor. We'll go back and try some other items for sure. There was plenty of parking and our waitress was nice.

Joanna and Yudiana our star servers! Thank you for your kindness and great service!

Found Salt in Yelp while looking for best bbq in Huntsville. We are here in Huntsville, Alabama for the 1st time and made sure we try their bbq! It turns out they are a Michelin star in 2025 with Chef Boyzo. What a fantastic dining experience! We were served by Joanna and her side kick, Yudiana. They were both amazing, providing us with excellent service throughout our time there. The food was totally delicious and delightful. It's an Asian fusion take on American bbq! We had the crispy duck appetizer and then went on to have the Salt salad and ginger lemon chicken breast while hubby had the chicken thighs with Mac and cheese & baked beans. With their out of this world Asian fusion bbq sauce, it was out this world delicious! If I could give this place a 6 star, I would! The interior was very chic and classy with lots of pleasant art optics. The music was perfect not too loud, just enough for the perfect ambiance. Highly recommend this fabulous Michelin restaurant. You will surely miss something special if you don't!

Original MAC Burger and Elote Creme Corn

Who: Two people from work and myself. What: We had the Texas Twinkies for an appetizer. I had the Original MAC Burger and Elote Creme Corn. I also sampled the Burnt Ends. Where: We sat at a table for four near the center of the restaurant. When: Lunch during the week. Would: Yes, I would recommend it and look forward to going back! The Texas Twinkies, MAC Burger and Burnt Ends were all delicious! The Creme Corn was good too, but it wasn't, "I need to tell somebody about this," good. Our waitress was nice and really helpful! We didn't have to wait for a table, and we didn't have to wait long at all for any of our food.

Perfect, attentive service when you eat in and attention-to-detail and presentation even when you order take out. Texas Twinkies, Brisket, and Brisket Fritters were amazing and so were the Brussels sprouts and thick-cut TALLOW Fries. (Don't warm the leftover Twinkies in the microwave - makes them too spicy). You have to try this place.

We stopped by Salt Smokehouse to try their infusion foods. From looking at their menu and reading reviews, it appears they have a KBBQ influence. It was 1:15 and the restaurant was 95% full. Full and wait staff moving quickly to get orders out to hungry customers. I noticed there were several Asian men there eating and thought the KBBQ influence must be good. I ordered the pork plate with charred tomato, onion and squash and creamed spinach. The pork was smoked very well with great flavor and was moist. 5/5 The charred tomato, onion, and squash were excellent. 5/5 The creamed spinach thick and tasty. 5/5 Dave got the prime burnt ends, baked beans, and beef tallow fries. His burnt ends were tender tasty and seasoned well. 5/5 The baked beans were good but not memorable. 4/5 The beef tallow fries tasty and crispy. 5/5 We had a good lunch and will return again. My favorite item was the charred tomato, onion and squash. Yummy! If you are into fusion foods, please stop by and give this place a try. The food is really good.

Bulgogi cheesesteak, half the plate only Awesome!

The smoked wings were delicious as well and paired perfectly with the white sauce. The mac wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed the potato salad. The Texas toast was a great addition and was perfect for creating a little bbq sandwich. My total came out to around $32 which I felt was a bit pricey when I had paid but after getting my plate I realized how large the portions were which totally justified the cost. At most BBQ restaurants I usually finish all my food but here I had left overs so I basically got 2 meals out of the one plate. Another thing I liked is that they have a variety of sauces and they aren't stingy with them. Overall this is a great spot with friendly staff that provides wonderful service. This! Place! Needs! More! Hype!…read more Okay, back to typing normally. Kar's Char is a relatively new Texas-style bbq place inside of Lowe Mill. It occupies the full restaurant space that used to belong to The Veggie and belonged to Happy Tummy before that. It's to the left of Piper and Leaf as you face P&L from the parking lot. I only belabor this point because some folks do have a hard time navigating Lowe Mill and no one should miss out on giving this place a try because they can't find it. I saw a few posts about Kar's Char when they first opened and have had them bookmarked since then. Recently, I was in the area after work around 2 PM and looking to kill some time before a doctor's appointment. I was feeling hungry and figured why not give them a go and enjoy a little time at the Mill while I waited. I arrived and took a few minutes to look at the menu. I am, admittedly, freakishly obnoxious and snobby about barbeque and was determined to have a positive experience, so I decided not to play with fire that day and instead decided to order one of their burgers, which I'd seen a few people rave about online. I selected their hatch green chili cheeseburger and placed an order for that. It comes with one side and I decided on macaroni and cheese. They have bottled drinks available next to the register and so I grabbed a water out of the cooler to round things out. My burger was cooked fresh just for me so I had a few minutes to hang around and take in the fun, nerdy, classic Lowe Mill ambiance. This is a truly local business and they seem very dedicated to supporting and uplifting their fellow businesses in and around the Mill. The service I received was incredibly kind and welcoming -- they really do seem like lovely folks here. My burger came out piping hot and cooked perfectly, with slightly crispy, charred edges and a juicy center. It was a delicious burger, slightly spicy but nothing scary, and I especially loved the chili lime aioli -- added a nice creaminess and moisture. To my pleasant surprise, the soft, lightly toasted bun held up to all the goodness pretty well! Next time I will probably ask for no pickles -- I found their flavor a little overwhelming -- but I am also hot and cold on my feelings about pickles so your mileage may vary! I say keep them on if you're a big fan, and take them off if not. :) The macaroni and cheese was enjoyable but not as good as the burger. Next time I come I will probably try out a different side. Overall, 4.5/5, with extra high marks for the hatch green chili burger and the charming, welcoming staff/owners. I'll be back to try the actual barbeque, and certainly to have another burger!

Big Bob founded the spot back in 1925 and only recently passed away, giving the business to his children. The place is an institution of the state and is packed on weekends. Prices are from an era that's now long gone, making this not only incredible BBQ, but also a steal for the money. I mean, who sells a BBQ pork sandwich for under $5 in 2026? Many staff working here clearly have been around for a long, long time. So, one might ask, what should I get at Big Bob's? For starters, the chicken wings. Likely the best smoked wings to be had anywhere: just the right amount of smokey profile while being tender and juicy. True perfection in something that's hard to master. Next, one of the samplers is not a bad idea. Pulled pork is truly state of the art, winning many competitions around the South. Ribs are fall off the bone and delicious. Brisket is good, but a low fat version that might or might not be to someone's taste. Hand cut French fries and baked beans as a side, and finally, life is all set. Sure, if one gets more adventure, the ice box cakes are wonderful also, with the coconut varietal being a standout. I have been eating Big Bob's BBQ my whole life. The quality and taste of the pork shoulder, smoked chicken, and Brunswick stew I recently purchased was very very disappointing. We ordered 2 pounds of pork shoulder. The meat had no taste. I couldn't detect hickory smoke. The pork was burnt and very fatty. The accompanying vinegar based sauce was not seasoned like previous times. Basically it was vinegar with little seasoning. 1/5 The smoked chicken, my favorite, was dry. I wondered if it was leftover from the previous day. The seasoning wasn't very good. 2/5 The Brunswick stew was not good. The recipe has changed. It tasted sweet which was off putting. I do not remember Brunswick stew tasting sweet. The quart of stew had 10 tiny pieces of potato and a few corn kernels. I saw some pork meat floating in a strange red colored broth. I remember when stewed tomatoes were in the stew. Not anymore. The soupy stew did not taste very good. 2/5 The potato with pulled pork was ok. The sauce given was a thin vinegar base that had little seasoning. The potato was the best thing I ate from Big Bob's. 3/5 I am thoroughly disappointed with the quality and taste of Big Bob's pulled pork, smoked chicken and Brunswick stew. I will return again. It will be a while though. I can't get this visit out of my head. This feels like a bad Twilight Zone episode. I really have enjoyed the foods from here in the past. Sadly, not this time. 2/5

It was plenty of pulled pork, a pack of buns (or you can get their jalapeno cornbread muffins, which my Sorority Sister's really like), Cole slaw, and two sides. Our sides were mac and cheese and green beans. The young lady helping us alluded that Ted's would perhaps mix and match the meats if we wanted, for example, half pork, half smoked turkey. I'm not exactly sure about this. Melissa and I agreed the green beans could benefit from some pork ends tossed in and also some salt and pepper. We enjoyed Ted's last night! Thanks, Ted's, I would like to try their breakfast and their tamales!
