Another nice visit to Ted's yesterday! Sorority Sister and I got Ted's "to go" and again, the staff were incredibly friendly! Also, the service is consistently fast - it's always mere minutes until your to go bags are packed and I mean, well packed! Their brown paper bags are perfectly sized for the various sides and meat containers and they staple them shut then place those in a plastic bag. These bags are made and packed to travel well! This Ted's location is always clean! We got the pulled pork family pack since we were feeding ourselves and our sweet Sorority Sister from Georgetown Texas who visited with us! It was plenty of pulled pork, a pack of buns (or you can get their jalapeno cornbread muffins, which my Sorority Sister's really like), Cole slaw, and two sides. Our sides were mac and cheese and green beans. The young lady helping us alluded that Ted's would perhaps mix and match the meats if we wanted, for example, half pork, half smoked turkey. I'm not exactly sure about this. Melissa and I agreed the green beans could benefit from some pork ends tossed in and also some salt and pepper. We enjoyed Ted's last night! Visited Ted's Bar-B-Q for a quick dinner on our first night in Huntsville and it did exactly what I needed it to!! Most everyone in our group ordered a combo of sorts with a sandwich and two sides. I got a pulled pork sandwich (with white sauce of course) and potato salad and coleslaw. The potato salad was creamy, the coleslaw refreshing, and the pulled pork juicy and filling! You can opt to go through the drive through, but I enjoyed sitting inside. You go up to the counter to order and they give you a number that you wait to be called to pick up your food. The person working the register was friendly and thorough, helping me make decisions since I hadn't been there before. It was a relaxed environment for a quick bite and I appreciated that very much. It may not be competition BBQ but it is hard to beat "The Double" in value and taste - succulent pulled pork over a snappy sausage cut in half, served on a brioche(?) roll. The real winner were the wings - smoke kissed and then fried to give a crispy exterior and a juicy inside. Top 5 wings. Get their hot BBQ sauce, its not that hot but adds a kick of flavor. I thought this place was great! I thought the portions and price were spot on. I had the pork sandwich combo with baked beans and potato salad. Had the spicy sauce and slaw on the sandwich; the "spicy" wasn't spicy at all but did give it a good taste and the cool coleslaw gave the sandwich a perfect amount of contrast in texture and flavor. Again, the portions aren't huge but I'd say they're just right ...and priced appropriately. The location is tight to get in and out of but we'll worth it. The pork was stringy and lacked flavor and the sides had very little flavor either. My family ordered chicken and they said it was okay. We were in town for vacation and we really wanted to try the Alabama white BBQ sauce while were here. We found it at Teds as well as really smoky meats and sides. The biggest surprise were the spicy tamales. I wasn't so sure what tamales would taste like at s BBQ joint but my husband ventured here. These were the the best thing on the menu. The masa was very smooth and creamy. Probably because of all the fat the tender from their meats. They just had a great flavor too. Be sure to try one or two if you stop by. I loved the cleanliness of the restaurant that's always a plus with me. The decor was excellent, but I can not say anything good about my potato. The chicken was terribly dry, you definitely didn't need a tooth pick all you had to do was pick up a piece of chicken. The potato was hard and near the skin was over cooked in the middle was under cooked. I didn't even eat but a few bites. The salt shakers had more rice than salt in them and they wouldn't hardly shake. I gave them three stars because my friend who was also eating there their good was good they said, and because they was so clean. I consider myself a BBQ aficionado. I am a Certified KSBS BBQ Judge and amateur cook. I take BBQ way too serious.  My daughter and I tried this place the other day. We walked in and we were the only customers. We ordered at the register and take a seat. Food was quick and served on paper plates. I got the turkey and sausage. Both were cooked correctly. Meaning neither was over or under cooked, so kudos are deserved for that. However, I didn't taste any smoke flavor, which seems odd. I got two slices of turkey and one sausage, which seems a little high. My daughter got a stuffed baked potato with chicken. She liked it. I tried a bite. The chicken was a touch dry but overall not bad. Again, no smoke flavor. They offer several different sauces - a white sauce (which wasn't very good), a red sweet sauce (which was ok). I had a lot of trouble formulating this review. All in all, the meal was fine but I didn't feel like it was a true BBQ restaurant vs dinner (a meat and 3 veggie place). I didn't taste any smoke flavor on anything. I did not try the ribs or the pulled pork so it's possible I missed it. Again, not a bad meal by any means just didn't come across as a true BBQ meal. It's always had a higher price for items than most of the local places but the service was great, the food was good, and the kids were nice and polite. Not so much now days. Despite living around this part of town, I honestly don't come by Ted's except for maybe once every other month. I've never had much love for the "chain"-style BBQ restaurants. That being said, Ted's pricing is around average and the BBQ is actually quite good. I got the pulled pork plate with beans and potato salad with a side of brunswick stew. The pork was moist and had good flavor; however, I did not get many big chunks or crispy bark. The sides were really good and the cornbread had good flavor. The brunswick stew was a letdown unfortunately. It was far too runny, and lacked much flavor (was very bland). I really enjoy Ted's BBQ! I normally always go to the one on University Dr. However, this location is close to my mom's house. This location is good as well. From what my mom and grandma tell me, the one on University is better. I think their BBQ is flavorful and tender. Their sides are also good. I've had quite a bit of their food which includes: Smoked Chicken Salad with Ted's Ranch, Wings, Ribs, Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken Loaded Baked Potato, Green Beans, Mac & Cheese, Peach Cobbler, and Fries. This visit I had the Smoked Chicken Loaded Baked Potato and the Ribs. Their baked potato is super simple but delicious. I always add BBQ sauce and white sauce. It comes with butter, bacon, cheese and sour cream. The ribs are the best. They are tender and full of flavor. Honestly, you cant go wrong with any of their meats. They all good and seasoned well. Some of their sides are better and more seasoned than others, but overall they are all decent. I also really enjoy the wings with the white sauce. My family has roots in Memphis, and I know good barbecue when I taste it. Ted's consistently delivers. I speak only for the pulled pork, but it is consistently moist, smoky, and pulled just right--not stringy, but in bite-sized chunks of succulent pork. The bun holds up well, too, which is important. Their fries are awesome--they taste like they've been fried twice. Super crunchy and yet maintaining a potatoey inside. I like the Mac and cheese, too. Strong cheese taste with interesting shaped macaroni. Tea is properly sugared and the music and atmosphere speaks to the Memphis style I so love. Far and away the best barbecue in Huntsville--forget Lawlers. I think it's better than Gibson's, honestly, but I've never liked Gibson's. read more

I've been going to Ted's (5 points) since they opened. Have always been pleased with everything ordered and never had any issues, their food is good. I really enjoy their chef salads and order them often; pork, smoked chicken or smoked turkey. Today I ordered 2 turkey chef salads for my husband and myself at the drive through. When I got home, I was shocked & disappointed that the smoked turkey was not shredded, nor smoked (as it always has been) ... but sliced strips of what looked like to me processed turkey in its place. It's supposed to be shredded smoked turkey. Sliced, long chunks of turkey is not smoked. The salad did not taste good, simply put. Were they out of their shredded turkey? Is this their new improved version? They had the correct salad about a week and a half ago. Driving back to the restaurant was not possible. I can't believe they call that turkey smoked. Guess they need to change their menu description. $8.99 each, a waste of money and unacceptable ~ I was not a satisfied customer today. read more

Just stopped by Ted's on my way home. Had my receipt from my last visit bc my sandwich was not as I ordered (last week) I had called then and they took down my full name and when I went in today they replaced the sandwich and made it correctly. Not only did they replace it for FREE but also gave me a banana pudding (which I ordered last time) and I was not even expecting that!! The staff is very friendly and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes (the drive through had a long line) I could t be more pleased with my most favorite local bbq joint!!! Although my favorite BBQ is still Lawler's, this is a close second and *much* more convenient. The Tamales are really good. The Baked Bean are delicious, the mac and cheese is tasty, and the green beans are... well... green beans (although they're not cooked to that beyond mushy point like they are at some places). Evidently they have Brisket on Wednesdays and Ribs only on the weekend (Thursday, Friday ad Saturday) Closed on Sundays. read more
