Your room is like your own apartment so you need to provide all furnishings and linens, laundry services are included. Level of care needed for each resident can vary-along with the costs. Anything outside of your contract is added to your monthly fees, naturally. But can be a surprise if you're not aware so be careful what you ask for that's off contract. Yeah it's expensive but OMG you get what you pay for! Help. Yes. There's help when you call for it and they are there freaking immediately. It's a different world. It's next level care with compassion and humor and just outright lovely people. My dad was only there a little over 3 weeks and I was amazed at what I saw. Staff that stopped by to chat with him. Talked to him about things they were doing (telling him the next step so he was prepared) asked him questions and directly helped him based on his answers. They always follow their protocol-2 people for this task, one person in this area at all times, etc. Etc. They all took such great care of him, kept him clean and comfortable. I hate that he only had his last few weeks there, I wish I could have found this place sooner. There are all kinds of daily activities and things residents can do plus family dinner nights where you can order special meals for visitors and eat together. Other times you can hang out in your room if you want or the TV room, it's totally up to you. My dad was on the memory care side which doesn't have free access for residents to leave that wing, visitors have to be buzzed in & out. It's nice, airy, clean and decorated beautifully in all the public areas. I really miss some of the ladies that worked there too, like the memory care Director-Crystal, the techs Brigitte & April just to name a few. They kept me sane and kept me going. As soon as he walked in he said, 'This is the place'. He felt comfortable and it was his decision! He has been here now for going on 5 months and he enjoys his new surroundings as well as their wonderful staff. I no longer worry about him as I know he is being very well taken care of! He enjoys his meals in the cafeteria, walks and activities. We are both very happy that he is a resident of The Lodge.

My mother was on hospice care and I should have been allowed to visit. By the time I was allowed to see my mother, she was incoherent and writhing in pain. My father required further assistance that he frequently did not receive. When he started hospice care, the director tried to deny my visits, and spoke to him about moving to memory care behind my back. It took an intervention from hospice care for me to be allowed to see him. The rest of the staff seems caring and pleasant, but I wouldn't trust the director to care for my plants.

It was a blast!…read more The were celebrities everywhere, from the Mayor of Carson City, to Miss Carson City with her crown and sash, to an awesome signer and violinist. There was an ice sculpture. There were fancy hors d'oeuvres and desserts. There was beer, wine, and water. The head honcho from Prestige Care, which has locations throughout the western US, came here all the way from Washington, I believe it was.. The were so many people I had trouble maneuvering to the front to see the speakers and even get water. The center went all the way to impress people. This event had been advertised for months in the Nevada Appeal. And it was packed. Good thing I came early, as I got the tour, which was quite extensive, out of the way, just in time for the ribbon cutting and speeches. I was exhausted at the end from so much walking. I guess I would compare this to a Yelp Elite event, except I have never been to one since I am (still) not a member of the Yelp Elite Squad. Boo hoo I guess. :-( The unit is a combination of skilled nursing facility (temporary rehabilitation with the goal to go home) with 80 beds (Medicare and Medicaid do cover that), and memory care assisted living with 54 beds (Medicare and Medicaid do not cover that). The memory care unit is a locked unit, with codes required to access the stairs, exits, or elevators. They take Medicare right now, but have not yet been approved for Nevada Medicaid. Approval is anticipated in a few months. The rooms are either semi-private, with an actual wall separating the two beds in a very large room, "jack-and-jill" rooms, with two rooms connected by a shared bathroom, or private. Some residents rent both jack-and-jill rooms, and use one as a sitting room. Most of the unit is not occupied, but all or almost all private rooms in the memory care assisted living part have been reserved. People come from as far away as Reno to live here, since the facility and staff are top notch. The units features wifi (which does not work yet according to the receptionist, so she would not give me the password--kind of snippy to me); cable TV; a hair salon; music therapy with bluetooth wireless headphones for each resident; a large monitor which is controlled by a tablet which can play videos, music, therapy games, etc.; a cornhole game; lounges, checkers; and a multitude of daily activities. There is a gym for supervised rehabilitation. There are also multiple kitchen and laundry units, but I am not sure if the patients use them or the staff does. All restrooms are gender-neutral. There is also a rooftop covered balcony area with a movable tile floor on wheels, so the individual tiles can expand in the summer without breaking. There are private dining areas should the family wish to dine with the resident. I was a little bothered by the fact there was no regular gym, chapel, library, or computer room. And the rooms did not feature an area for laptops like hotel rooms do. I know, many of the residents are older, but many are computer literate and will not be happy when this amenity is not available, especially in the future as Baby Boomers get older. The exits required a password to access in the memory care unit, which is a fire hazard. Another aspect which I was not thrilled about was the staff appeared mostly white. Not much diversity, but hey, this is northern Nevada. Parking was ample. There are actually two entrances: one on Washington Street by LabCorp, and one on Mountain Street. Last time I went, I did not know of the main entrance off Washington, so I went to the side entrance near Mountain, where no one was, lol. They make everyone exit onto Mountain though, which I don't know why, as there appears to be enough room to exit onto Washington Street. They staff, other than the receptionist at the end, appeared professional and knowledgeable. They have two doctors, which seems like too few for 134 beds.

I only say this out of concern from the happenings/contacts we encountered. This isn't the choice for your family. There's favoritism, gaslighting, alleged violence and more. Anyone who has spent a significant amount of time in this building, has beared witness to this. Caretakers are overworked, underpaid, and are afraid to escalate issues with residents with extreme behavioral issues. We spent a considerable amount of time in this building. If you weren't a family member, you were made to feel as if you were in the way. You were disparaged, gaslighted, othered and threatened with being searched/barred from the property. We experienced days where our trash was never removed- during the summer. The rooms wouldn't cool down enough, there were flies and ants everywhere. It was horrific. No trash bags to tie up the biohazard properly. No escaping it. You're reamed as to how to put in work orders, only for them to never be fulfilled. We waited about 3.5 months, our request was ignored. It's a Snakepit. Amanda is the ringleader and enabler of the alleged happenings in this building. Everyone is walking around on eggshells with her. Her mask slips the second you question anything quality wise, especially with the care of your family member. Some medtechs are unprofessional. Yadira by name, would spend 30 minutes - 1 hr or longer, stepping away from her job- gossiping to an outside agency, about her job, the workload, and other outside staff. Call lights are to be answered within at least 7 minutes. Ours was intentionally ignored for 30 minutes. We followed the direction from Yadira to pull the cord if we needed help. Help never came. Medtechs can and will walk out at random due to being overwhelmed. It was a struggle to have someone consistent with timing or responding to relatively urgent requests for medications. The Caretakers are wonderful, but there are a few that only care about a check. It has been reported that some are allegedly smoking marijuana on the property. It was ignored. This will be reported/has been reported to the state. We *allegedly* witnessed residents who went AWOL, became violent towards other residents and staff, intentional neglect of specific residents, etc. You can't advocate for anyone without facing backlash, or further "othering". It's almost as if you're on the set of Mean Girls and Great Value Greys Anatomy. It's a facade. Spend more time in this building, and you will see everything. The 5 star reviews are more likely than not, from people who haven't spent more than maybe 2 hours in a common area. Give it time. Meals are lacking, and often look like rations. There were nights where they may give you a watery soup with a half burrito the size for a child. Also, not cutting up choking hazards unless specifically requested. We *allegedly* witnessed more than one choking incident. This concern or statement doesn't come out of nowhere. These are observations. The smells of old urine saturated hallways, the favoritism for "newer" residents. It's all performative. Money is the bottom line. I don't need a generic response from Arbors. We raised our concerns for months to no avail. The same will happen to you, the more you advocate for your family or acknowledge shortcomings, or safety/quality concerns.

Without going into detail, I have to say the manager, Assad Zeid, at Arbors Memory Care, really bent over backwards to make it possible for us to afford this temporary care. I worked with him for several weeks to get everything lined up. I did pay the room hold deposit because this seemed like the perfect solution for us. The only reason my husband did not move here was because he was on oxygen and Arbors doesn't allow oxygen at night. This forced me to find a different location. When this happened I was given a refund of the room hold fee with no argument. Very helpful. Tom, the sales manager, even tried to help me find a different facility for my husband when the need for oxygen became a problem for moving to Arbors. I thought that was very helpful. Arbors is a beautiful facility run by very nice people who seem to care about helping us figure out how to navigate this difficult time in our lives. The owner, Nucharee Yokdang, is very knowledgeable about running an assisted living/group home, including being able to help with all the necessary paperwork for long term care reimbursement and hospice. She knows just what the elderly need from a care perspective and is always looking for ways to improve their quality of life. The Holiday parties and other activities they do are wonderful for residents and family members. The whole staff treat their residents with such love, care, and respect, you can tell they view them as part of their own extended family. The greatest compliment that I can give though is the fact that my father calls it HOME! I feel so blessed there is such a wonderful place with amazing people for my father to spend his last years.
