Today my family and I went to salt grass. My sister and mother were up visiting and we decided to go to salt grass because my mom loves it. The waitress was AMAZING but we never received our salads and when we got the food we ordered, My boyfriends shrimp smelled bad, like it had set out for a while and was so over cooked you couldn't even bend it. My mom got the Oscar salmon and first off it didn't look anything like she had before (like I said she goes a lot, and she orders the same thing) the salmon was only a 4oz filet when it was supposed to be 8oz, she took a bite of the salmon and instantly spit it back out. My sister tried it and spit it back out. The salmon had gone bad and they still chose to cook it and give it to my mom. My sister ordered grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, and a salad, but like I stated before we didn't get our salads. The chicken was only a 5oz piece and so overly cooked, she had to get ranch to eat it. And they still charged us for the dinner size that came with a salad even though we didn't get the salad. So we told our waitress what was wrong and she said she would let her manager know and see what they could do. Well, you'd think the manager would have some common courtesy and would come out and apologize for the poor meal and try to assist with the issue. Instead he kept sending the waitress back out to tell us things even though it was only her second day. They ended up bringing my mom the salad she was supposed to have in the beginning and brought a piece of carrot cake out for my boyfriend in place of the shrimp. My mom got her salad after asking for dressing on the side (because she can't eat a lot of dressing) they put it over the top. Then when they brought her a new one with dressing on the side she couldn't eat half the salad because it was brown and slammy salad mix. After the waitress having to walk back and forth to the manager because they wouldn't come out, my mom asked to speak with one. A manager that came out wasn't the one she was talking to because it was a woman, she said her name was Kimberly but her jacket said Brittany so not sure what exactly her name was. She came up to the table with an attitude before we even got to explain to her what had happened. She asked what was the problem, everytime we would start to explain she would interrupt us becoming very defensive. She brought us our ticket and it still had everything on there even the food that wasn't eaten. While we were asking her about why it was still on there she snatched the ticket off the table and yelled "well what do you want me to do about? Tell me what YOU think should be taken off" we told her just to take off what wasn't eaten and she came back and explained what was taken off our bill still being $91 which she couldn't explain how. We then said fine whatever because her attitude was so bad we were becoming angry. She just set the check down and asked if we needed anything else and I responded telling her she needed a new attitude if she was going to work in customer service. Then she laughed and said have a good day and walked away. We were civil the whole time until she became extremely rude and unprofessional. We never saw the guy manager that they were referring too that knew the situation supposedly. The waitress again was the only redeeming quality of the meal. We gave her a great tip in cash. Unfortunately we will not be back after how awful the management was and how bad the food was. The whole drive home my mom was sick to her stomach and had to take medicine when we got home. Seriously a terrible experience and I hope they find a new Assistant GM because Kimberly or Britney whatever her name is was the worst manager I've ever experience. I never post reviews on places but since it made my mom physically sick to her stomach, it needed to be said. Wish I could give no stars. read more

1st time I called was to inquire about reservations. Snotty girl on the phone cut me off mid-sentence and snapped "we don't take same day reservations". Meh, stupid kids, I wrote that off and decided to try again later on. 2nd time I was successfully seated with my friend at the bar. Ordered soup, a steak, etc. I like a good steak, but I also like it on the med well side. Go ahead and hate, but that's how I like it and My money is as green as anyone else's. The guy looked at me and said "well, that's gonna take a long time, and your friends steak is going to come out before yours, so can we cut yours in half so it will cook faster and you guys can eat together??" I won't get into why that question is so appalling because anyone with 1/2 a brain can figure that out. The soup comes....comes with plastic in it. Disgusting. Takes 20-30 min for some "manager" to come out and barely squeeze out an apology. Then he says " I'll buy that drink for ya". Thanks, but you should be buying my whole meal, in my opinion. But I shake it off knowing that corporations are a nightmare to work for, and I'm sure his intentions are in the right place. WRONG. He took $3 off my bill. The drink alone was $5.75. My boyfriend and I went to Saltgrass a couple weeks ago and I was not impressed. I've always heard good things, but... Our server took FORever to come to our table, then our 2 draft beers took about 10 minutes. Every question I asked about wine, beer, or food our server had no clue. I ordered the steak and shrimp, Med-Rare. my steak was ok, but my boyfriends steak (ordered med) came out rare, and I mean RARE. Cold to the touch. Not a good first impression. read more

Tried this location for the first time today and had kind of a mixed experience. First of all this place is loud the music is so loud you can't hardly hear. Also bring a flashlight if you want to read the menu because even at 2:00 in the afternoon it was so dark you can barely see the menu. The place was busy and after a promised 15 minute wait that turned into 40 minutes we were seated. The website shows that lunch is till 4:00 every day but not at this location where it isn't on weekends. The prices are higher than roadhouse or outback but the food is about the same. We had the chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak and peppercorn filet all with garlic mashed potatoes and all with potato soup. The food was great and we have no complaints about that. It is hard to get refills and when you finish the first loaf of bread the want to take everything away. Don't lay anything down or set it aside because it will disappear without your being asked if your through with it or not. I had a manager try to take s plate I was eating off of while I was still eating and had to stop him and make him put it back. They want you gone as fast as possible so they can turn the tables with other guests. Will try again in a few weeks. read more

Stayed at local hotel for work event and called to place a to go order. Was told the location is not yet allowing to go orders because the kitchen is too busy since they are new. What a joke! It's a Tuesday night and I can see their parking lot from my hotel and are not busy. So in an area with several key travel hotels within walking distance, you will turn away business when you are not even busy. Your kitchen can accommodate me if I come and sit down, order drinks and leave a tip but somehow cannot to place an order to pick up. Poor management decision store manager! read more

Went here for the soft opening, knowing the service was learning and in training. The meal was great and the service was good. However, for the price of the food, it should not have been so salty. I've heard from multiple people who have been more recently that their food was too salty also. We had the queso (omg so good), bbq ribs (perfectly cooked) with fries, and the filet with blue cheese (so salty) with mac and cheese (also too salty). Beers were pricey. read more

"Lunch special" Pat's ribeye 10 oz. $17.99 with your choice of one side but not a baked potato...that's about $2.25 extra. Paper thin overcooked salty steak. The garlic butter served on top of it made it seem even more salty. Didn't expect it to be so thin so ordered it cooked medium but was well done when it arrived. Sweet potato fries were very crunchy shoestring style. Salad and bread were good. First server's job was to sell drinks, appetizers and their pricey Landry's card. Second server was friendly, polite and gave us good attentive service. Overall very disappointing and doubtful that we will ever go back. The other Saltgrass locations we have visited over the last few years have been substandard quality so the Longview location is about what we expected. read more

Everything about this place was great! Service was great, speedy time, they sat me at a table and I asked for a booth due to a recent back surgery and they accommodated, I chose the 12oz. Prime rib and when I received it, it looked great however I thought that there was a lot of fat on it so I mentioned it to the waitress. Now I never complained I just felt compelled to say something and I would have been okay with what I had. The next thing I know the manager was at my table and after he heard my comments he gave me what must have been another 12oz. Of prime rib. Wait staff were very nice! However, the food is mediocre. Can't understand the price for the little amount of food you get. Ordered a steak med well and one end was medium, middle med well, and the end was well done. Next time I want a steak, it will be back to Roadhouse across the street. If you're looking for a great steak, then this is the place. My husband ordered the Ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. I ordered the tacos and they were delicious. Also, the spinach dip and salsa were amazing with just the right amount of heat. However, I would say the service needs major work! Our name got skipped on the list for a party of 2.5 and when I notified them, they stuck us at a table that seats 8; talk about room to spread out. We felt sooooo wierd, but got to watch staff scramble to find out which good went to what table...total confusion. Anyways, great food but needs some training on service. read more

Went there Monday and the food was so good, we went back the next night- what a mistake!! The side plates had gooey old food on them and then my daughter's pizza came out with a huge hair on the plate! As if that wasn't bad enough, my steak was over cooked, the potatoes were cold and the shrimp like rubber. ( in fairness, I didn't point out the flaws in my meal, as at that point, there was no undoing the disappointment.) Then we were overcharged on at least one item- possibly two- I'm not sure because the server didn't know what size steak she was going to bring me. Bad Service sums up my first time eating at Saltgrass; first off our steaks were served before the salad course, another waiter caught the mistake and brought our salads, next the baked potato's were room temperature, my steak was not tender and had some gristle; the waiter was nowhere to be found, so I had to flag down another waiter to take care of us; that night I went to the Saltgrass website where I emailed them of the situation, I still have not heard a response; I do not plan on eating here again. read more

Went last night for date night. Ate at the bar - service and dinner was good, enjoyed appetizers and filet. Made it in time for happy hour specials so that was a bonus. Only issue I had was when I went to restroom a woman was in stall next to me talking in the phone and when she came out I noticed that she was an employee and then she walked out she didn't wash her hands. It's a nice place but the food was mostly average. The queso fresco and the bacon wrapped quail appetizers were good but our entree's were nothing special. My steak was a bit dry and not very flavorful. I'm not saying it was bad but I cook much better steak at home. Overall, my family decided it was a bit pricey for average quality food. Salad and bread was good. My steak was tough and asparagus tasted like propane, maybe from the grill and was basically raw. My husband had steak and shrimp. I went yesterday. I ordered from the LUNCH menu because I was picking up BEFORE 4p. I had a $25 gift card, so I wanted to get the best price, because they are extremely expensive any other time. The meal was on the menu for $18.99, I get the bill and it says $23.99. I bring this to the hostess and she argues with me saying I got something extra, in which I tell her I did not get anything extra, look at the bill. Needless to say, I paid $23.99, never again. Incredible filet! Ordered it med/rare most restaurants either over cook or undercook med/rare steaks in my opinion. This steak was purrrrrfect!!! Warm pink/red center soft as butter and the perfect sear on the outside! Last steak I had this good was in NYC and I paid 4 times as much! Great service as well! Queso fresco is awesome! To compete in Longview you need to bring it. This being our first try at Saltgrass our expectations where high. But it was a real let down. Being east Texas you should have Chicken fried steak nailed, it was tough and arrived with no gravey. The steak fries did not taste very good. My hamburger tasted like the top of the grill with a lot of grease dripping down the side and my fries where not cooked. And to top it all off there was hardly anyone there but the kitchen was very slow. Noted 3 other tables having issues during our time. The manager came by to talk and we explained our opinion. I went to this place yesterday with a friend and to begin with, it was so dark in the place we could barely see what was on the menu and the prices are outrageous ! We had our vapor cigarettes with us and were told we couldn't vape in the restaurant, well, considering how the prices were outrageous and the music too loud and not to our taste and not allowed to vape, we decided to leave before the food had even arrived, and by the way, we didn't feel the service was that great either. Let me start by saying Saltgrass in general is fabulous; however, Longview, TX Saltgrass is definitely the exception to that rule. Went yesterday - 1:30 p.m. They weren't busy at all, so we expected to get good service for sure. Our waiter was friendly enough, but looked disheveled and with questionable hygiene. He gave us the much dreaded rundown of all the 'but have you heard about our...?' that is so annoying.( I swear it's like buying a used car having to go thru all the nonsense about their features, which are not lower priced, by the way...just what they choose to call "special" for that week....then there's that card they always try to force on you - I just want to look at the menu & order what I want - not what they want me to buy.) One of our favorites at Rockwall Saltgrass (which is the BEST) is potato soup. This was served quickly to the table at complete room temperature - yuck - and w/out any crackers at all for either one of us. The soup looked and tasted nothing like what we get at the Rockwall's Saltgrass. We sent them back to be heated. The silverware was dirty -a rather large piece of something stuck to the fork. Soup finally came back hardly warmed at all!! Certainly not hot by any stretch! (Microwaving is not that difficult - this must have gone under a lamp) Then the rest of our order was presented - wrong item. Small portion of fish with a bed of rice at the side -not the Salmon Oscar laden with crabmeat we had ordered. So now we had to wait for that to be corrected. Meanwhile, we were both out of drinks - never offered refill. (cokes are $2.49 each by the way) Waiter brought ticket, and asked how we enjoyed our experience, so we politely expressed our disappointment and said we would never return. He offered a very insincere, lame apology and then had the nerve to ask, ' well, would you like to order a pecan pudding before you leave today?' Really? Spend MORE money at this place??? Uh, that would be a resounding "no". If you are unfortunate enough to gamble a meal at the Longview Saltgrass, PLEASE do not let it taint your view of Saltgrass restaurants - this one in Longview is truly the bad apple of the bunch and a complete waste of time and money. Anyone looking for prime real estate in Longview, keep your eyes on this one - don't expect it to be around long unless they make drastic changes. read more
