I came in a couple of weeks ago to have some birthday drinks before my actual birthday. This place was busy but I'm not sure why. The service wasn't quite atrocious, but it wasn't good. Grabbing a drink at the bar took about 30-minutes. I wouldn't have minded so much if the drink had been good. FYI don't order an old fashioned here. We were seated an hour after we arrived which was fine. We tried to order more drinks at our table but our waitress flat out said, "let me check if the bar is still making drinks." My family and I have been coming to Salty Dog every year that we vacation down in Kiawah! The menu offers a pretty wide variety of food and drink options. We love their hush puppies and calamari. I got the shrimp n chips which is always a favorite of mine. Spending the week at Kiawah Island, needed some dinner, so my wife and I decided to get some food from Salty Dog Cafe. We'd eaten at the one in Charleston, so knew it would be good! We split the Crab Cake dinner with mashed potato and veggies and an order of the she crab soup. There were 2 nice sized crab cakes and they were delicious! Split everything else and I had the soup - it was sooo good! They told me it would be ready in 20 minutes and sure enough, I got there in 15 and they had it ready. The cocktails are always so refreshing, and they have a great menu with lots of options. Most recently I had the Bohicket Roll stuffed with shrimp and lobster and it did not disappoint. The gator bites are a must share appetizer as is three crab dip. The did an amazing job of accommodating our large party very last minute and I have to give a huge shout out to them! I love that this place is located right on the water and has a beautiful ambiance. It's perfect for date night or post beach lunch. Stopped by the Salty Dog while vacationing with friends on Seabrook Island and it did not disappoint. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, we opted for outside to enjoy the gorgeous scenery on the marina! It was very hot though so would recommend trying to get a table that has shade from the umbrella and where no one has to stare into the sun. Service was a little slow but I think because it was so busy! Would recommend planning on being there for 2 hours for the amount of time it took to order food, get the meal, and get the check. It wasn't terrible though since we were on vacation! I personally loved the shrimp caprese salad, I'd probably get it again next time I come. So refreshing on a hot summer day! Two years ago while staying in Seabrook we had lunch one day at the Salty Dog Cafe. It was January and the restaurant was not crowded. The service was good, but the food was a bit hit and miss. We decided to try it again and see if things had improved. And, indeed, they had. Service was stellar, and the manager came and checked on us at about the halfway point. While not always a guarantee of quality, it implies a concern about the food and service. I had the Salty Dog wheat beer, which was better than the average, but still not at quite the level I'd like to see this beverage attain (I've brewed wheat beers at home, I have a pretty tough measure of what I think it should be). My meal was the fish tacos. 2 tacos with a decent quantity of fish in each and a pleasant remoulade sauce. I'd have like slightly more lettuce to better balance the crunch factor, but it was not a deal breaker. The French fries were quite decent for restaurant fare, and served hot. My wife had the fish sandwich which was quite good. Large portion of fish, nicely prepared. The bun was fresh [this was a sore spot 2 years ago]. We did not indulge in any of the fresh seafood options, so that may merit an edit to this review in the future as others have critiqued this area. We sat outside to enjoy a very pleasant day and, of course, a view of the water and boats. just a comment on my rating here. I try to review a restaurant in comparison to its peers, not against the best high end restaurants in town. As such, for a casual lunch near Kiawah, this one fills the bill. read more

We were hesitant to try salty dog due to mixed reviews. Located on the water, it's a great place to go for sunset or to listen to live music at night. Since we were there at lunch and not during a busy time, we took a chance. The woman who seated us was extremely friendly, as was our server, Katelyn. Lots of bar food type options, but we decided to go for the shrimp dishes as they were East coast and wild caught. BF got the fried shrimp and I got the Jake's seasoned shrimp salad. Both were very tasty. The salad was a good portion and very fresh. 12 well seasoned medium sized shrimp topped the salad. Seemed to more than justify the $19 price tag. BF enjoyed the fried version. The manager, Julia, also stopped by our table and checked on us. We spoke with her for awhile as she gave us advice on beaches and other local spots. The Salty Dog is a personal favorite of ours. Beautiful water views, live music, an awesome staff, plus it's dog friendly. Stopped here for dinner while vacationing on Seabrook Island. Our seating was on the second floor balcony as was perfect. Overlooks the Marina and the live music on a small stage. Ask for it if the weather is good (which it usually is). I had the Island Shrimp grilled with mashed potatoes and veggies. Excellent! My GF has hush puppies and fish bites from the Appetizer menu and it was more than enough for her. Drinks were good and the service was excellent and fast.
