Just moved back after living in Atlanta for years and decided to head to Shem's Creek for dinner. Opted for Red's and it was perfect. The wait was long but that was expected on a Saturday night. No fear because we entertained ourselves watching the dolphins play in the water. We also needed patio seating which added to the delay due to having two dogs with us. We got shrimp and shrimp and grits plus drinks. Food was delicious. Our waiter was pleasant and prompt. The manager (I think) brought our dogs some treats which made them happy. We ordered the oysters Roasted Red's Way, a blackened grouper sandwich, and a shrimp Baja bowl. The oysters were very tasty, but we wish they separated the oysters from the shell prior to cooking and service. The grouper sandwich was cooked perfectly and was a good portion of fish. We came here for a late dinner. We were seated after a 20 min wait. We ordered a lobster roll, 1/2 dozen oysters, mango daiquiri, and fish and chips. The daiquiri was pretty tasty. The lobster roll was okay. It was a bit bland, bo salt or seasoning and I bit into a shell. I think so melted butter would've helped. The oysters looked big at first glance but were actually very thin once off the shell. Again, needed a good dipping sauce but the cocktail was okay. My hubs said his fish and chips were okay as well. I think overall we were underwhelmed. I think maybe you would come for the view but it was dark when we came so that wasn't a perk for us. Great lunch! Was a nice day so we stopped for lunch and Eve considered sitting outside due to the location but it was packed! Sat inside which is fine as we aren't the biggest outdoor fans. I am legitimately embarrassed for this restaurant and for the waitress "working" outside yesterday. We (just my husband and perfectly behaved dog and I) were told by the bartender to sit down and someone would be with us. We sat and were there for 15 minutes with no menus, no water, nada - which would have been completely fine had there been any sign that they were busy/short-staffed or that it was an oversight or something. But here is the issue. The ~20-year-old, blond waitress sauntered past our table multiple times en route to the kitchen and another table without any modicum of acknowledgment or even the mildest display of interest whatsoever. She completely and deliberately ignored us... like, repeatedly. I smiled at her the one time she finally made eye contact with me, and instead of smiling back or speaking like a normal person she just briefly looked back at me with this languid, bored look on her face and disappeared for another 5 minutes. My husband got up after 15 minutes and asked her if we were in the right place to be waited on, and her response was, "You can sit anywhere" and then walked away again. So, yeah, then we left. Nothing about this is exaggerated. You have an incredibly rude, self-important child representing your business who very clearly does not want to be there. To the girl "waiting tables" yesterday.. you're a waitress... you're there because you need/want to make money.. and to do that you have to do stuff. And if you think that it makes you look cool to be rude to people, you're mistaken. It just makes you look uneducated and tacky. Grow up. read more

The first 3 minutes of being at this restaurant really showed how much they care about their customers. I went here with my family and we went to get seated by the hostess who was completely out of sight. We had to walk around the restaurant until we found the hostess who did not seem interested in seating us. The hostess walked away making us find a seat. This is not fancy dining and that was exactly what we were looking for. It is a standard on the water bar and dining pace with tv's and great laid back atmosphere. We started with Southern Caviar, Pimento Cheese with Captain's Wafers. Now the crackers may seem a bit bland but what you really want is the full flavor of the pimento cheese and these work perfectly. This was a great pimento cheese. It was fresh, creamy and delicious. I will say, the portion is large, easily good for four people. My wife ordered a large order of fried oysters. They were cooked perfectly, meaning not greasy. She enjoyed them, but wasn't able to finish all twelve. The hush puppies, unfortunately were not cooked well. They had a beautiful golden brown exterior but they were cooked in grease that was too hot so the center was still batter, not good. Also, the fries which they claim are seasoned with Red's special blend of spices were just, boring. I don't know if we just got an under seasoned batch, or if this is the standard. I went all in and got two dozen fried shrimp 4 ways on the Bubba Platter. The shrimp were perfectly fried. You get six each of coconut, bang bang, buffalo and Red's fried shrimp with tarter and cocktail. Now, I usually do not like coconut shrimp, but these stood out and the sauce they came with sealed the deal and I would order them again. The bang bang and the buffalo had great sauces with a good kick. On the basic fried, a favorite of mine, came with an exceptional tartar sauce and a really stellar cocktail sauce. Consider this, what does it take for someone to specifically mention tartar and cocktail sauces? These were a cut above. The service was attentive and they have a server/runner team so your food gets out quickly. Well done. If you are looking for some good seafood with a laid back feel, Red's should be on your list. And BTW, great cocktail and wine selection as well as an extensive beer offering. read more

We have always loved Red's Ice House and have recommended it to family and friends visiting the area. Last night we went, planning to have dinner. Seated quickly. Servers all around and standing at hostess desk, after 10 minutes I went to desk to ask who was our server only to be told they had not assigned our table a server. Our waitress went to table next to us took their orders as soon as they sat down. She kept her back to us the entire time and didn't acknowledge us as being there. They quickly brought us water and took our drink and appetizer order. Daiquiris and Margarita had no alcohol. Our waitress came to our table to ask if we received appetizers which had not showed up. Later she came to tell us our food still not ready but as soon as we asked for the check for our drinks she immediately said our food was all ready just waiting to bring it out. Great crowd for Saturday afternoon football games! Plenty of seating inside and outside with a beautiful view of the ocean and Shems Creek Boardwalk. The waitress was friendly and our food came out quickly. I ordered the Smoke House Sampler. Omg-, there was so much food! Pork, wings, pulled pork, french fries, and pineapple coleslaw. RUDE bar tenders. Waiting for a table, a friend gets a drink for a friend in the bathroom, and she did not ask for a license. After that, the bartender gets the workers to kick us out since two out of eight of us don't have their IDs. We came for lunch and only got a drink because there was a wait for a table. Psychotic actions from her, and we used a gift card. So, she didn't get a tip (made her angry) even though we told her to put our card on a tab (so she can get a tip).
