I posted this review on Google, but I desperately want to share my story. I am so delighted with Antigua Veterinary Practice. I cannot say enough good things about the caring, competent people at this vet. If you live in the area and are looking for an incredible vet who will take care of both you and your fur babies, this practice is it. To make a very long story short, I called them in tears, terrified that Hurricane Dorian was going to prevent us from being able to treat my dog's cancer fast enough to keep her with us (she'd been diagnosed that morning from a much less kind vet). The staff at Antigua listened patiently as I explained that we'd just lost our old dog to cancer the month prior, that our puppy was only a year and a half, and made time to see us that very afternoon. Amid the hurricane, my panic, the preparations they were making to ensure the creatures in their care were safe from Dorian, they made space and time for us. And after the hurricane had passed, they squeezed my dog into a surgery slot the next day to make sure she was given the best chance at life--they did this even though they were booked up for a month and a half, and were no doubt working with people whose animals had been injured during the storm. I have been to several vets on and around Anastasia, and Antigua Veterinary Practice is head, shoulders, knees and toes above the rest. read more

I take my Border Collie to Dr. Chris at Antiqua Vets. He is one of the most professional doctors that we have ever seen. He and his staff love their work and it shows the way they interact with my beloved Gidget. The worst experience I've ever had with a veterinarian, I brought in my 6 1/2 year old dog with bad hips and a hurt leg, it was our first time, I called and asked questions to help familiarize myself with the process and staff. explained his hurt leg and I sent all his records from previous vet he has been going to his whole life. The vet comes in, she has not read any of the reports, no one speaks to me and all of a sudden two ladies proceed to pick my 80 lb dog up with a hurt hips and leg and place him on a table and restrain him, he was in SO MUCH PAIN. He was crying and screaming, they would not let go, I had to beg them and ask repeatedly to put him down, let go of him and stop restraining him. he was crying in so much pain because of what they were doing to him. I've never in my life had a vet treat one of my dogs this way. now he is in more pain and can hardly walk because of the severe stress and extra damage they caused to my sweet baby boy. it was absolutely horrible. read more

Don't ever ever ever EVER bring a cat here unless you are completely desperate! This place primarily caters to dogs, and it is a COMPLETELY stressful disaster to bring a cat here! I could say more negative things about my experience but I won't. Just don't ever bring a cat here! read more

Admittedly I missed my 9:00 appt and not with standing today's time change missing the appt was my fault. We were new dog clients (one prior visit) and were not super happy with the $900+ cost of our 1st visit where healthy dogs need a shot or two. We have been looking for a new Vet since Dr Shelton passed. He was a great and compassionate Vet and a nice person. Despite the high cost we hoped that Antigua might be our new Vet home. After realizing my error regarding the appt time I walked my dogs to the office noon-ish feeling that any Vet Tech could administer an influenza booster only to find out that at Antigua the lunch hour is 2 1/2 hours and according to the office a Vet needs to administer the booster. Apparently at Antigua we are more or a profit center than valued dog patients. . so your search for a new "Dr Shelton" will continue. read more

Antigua vet clinic is top-notch. Dr. Taggart is the best - very knowledgeable, professional, friendly and compassionate. Dr. Taggart and the vet assistants know how to make my dog (and me!) feel at ease. My dog has a lot of anxiety, but they have always been so patient and gentle. Dr. Taggart took the time to listen to and address all of my concerns. The front staff was also great and so helpful. It is such a pleasant place -- everyone is so friendly and seem to really love their job. I highly recommend Antigua Vet Clinic and Dr. Taggart. read more

I chose Antigua because of a recommendation from the Nextdoor app, and have been nothing but disappointed. On my first visit there, my dog received an allergy injection, which worked very well. But, when I asked about continuing the injections, they told me I would have to pay for an office visit every month, as well as the cost of the shot. The shot by itself was $98, plus $55 for office visit. Now, I ordered her flea/heart worm meds online, and they refused my order. Company says the vet wants me to pick up scrip in office. They just don't want me to buy it somewhere else. This vet is just in it for as much money as they can get out of you. read more

Antiqua Veterinarian Clinic staff were wonderfully kind and thoughtful at the passing of our baby girl who had been hit by a car. We paid for the remains to be returned to us and it was exceptional, with velvet tie bag, a cute decorative pressed board box and then another velvet tie bag inside with her remains along with a certificate of her cremation date and name. Great local veterinarian clinic, superb staff, and exemplary service! Renovated house on San Marco, this clinic automatically makes you feel at home (and your pet) when you walk in the front door. The front desk staff is awesome in every way. They are so polite and courteous, and always have fun. The doctor is super friendly, highly knowledgeable, and does her absolute best to get your fur baby what they need! They have quite a buildup of clientele, so I highly recommend calling them as soon as possible to make an appointment. Can't speak more highly of this place! read more

This vet is very good. we have taken our dog and cats here for about 3 years. Everyone was especially compassionate when we had our senior cat declining and they were great to assist in her peaceful euthanasia. A couple days ago on a busy Saturday they assisted with a chip reading for a stray cat we found. Called the pet link registry and then made a call to the owner. We've been going to Antigua since we moved to St Augustine approximately 15 months ago. We absolutely love Dr Taggart, as well as the vet techs and staff here. They have been wonderful in treating our pets and us with patience, kindness and care, and I feel that they go above and beyond for our pets' wellness. They left me waiting around for 40 minutes, watching my dog with a heart condition get more and more nervous. I walked around outside in the 99 degree heat for 20 min then came indoors where my dog was nervous. Finally after I asked again why am I waiting 40minutes (others who came after me were taken back) can I just reschedule, (instead of rescheduling) a guy walks out- KNOWING MY DAD JUST PASSED AWAY last week & starts explaining that I was waiting bc someone was EUTHANIZING their pet & they wanted me to continue to wait for that room. Do people have any brain cells or a heart?? Imagine what little respect they have for life and death or personal pain. They barely apologized and did not bother to reschedule even though I had asked. I was so shaken I had to walk out. Everybody else there got it & even offered their appointments to me-but the staff- nothing . They didn't even call after I walked out visibly shaken. How could they make me wait, knowing what we had just been through- but then expected me to walk into a room after someone just lost their pet. They only care about money, not feelings, people or your pets. Its SO SIMPLE to do the right thing, but this place doesn't. They just "ask for forgiveness" instead of doing what is right in the first place. read more

Great scheduling and reminder system, and the availability of online pet info, prescriptions, and pet supplies at good prices. The staff at Antigua are family!! My dog Luna was abused as a baby and fears many men. She loves going to the vet to see everyone! She has a special relationship with one of the vet techs who happens to be a rather tall burly man. I found a sick, abandoned kitten & decided to adopt him & I took him there because my regular vet (whom I wasn't real happy with) couldn't fit me in today. I am so impressed & grateful for Antigua that I decided to schedule my other cat for a check up appointment for next month & drop my current vet. They were SO patient & SO caring with my new little kitten. They took their time explaining his problems & how they planned to help me get him to optimal health. Antigua is a first class Veterinary service all the way. When I lived in the south side of St. Augustine- I used to frequent Moultrie Animal Clinic, and still bring my dog there because they know him. My wife has been bringing her dogs to Antigua for 20 years, and I've grown to love it, too. First off- it's in an old house, not how you'd expect to find a vet- although in the nation's oldest city- it does fit well. The staff is super friendly, especially the vets. Knowledgeable, helpful, and they genuinely care for your pet. The few times I've taken the wife's dog here, they were incredibly gentle and loving with him, and they always do a great job providing care. They offer up great care for all pets- and a great selection of gourmet pet food, as well as Science Diet prescription food. It's just really a great place to bring your pets. My only minor complaint has to do with parking. There is a parking lot in the rear of the clinic, and if you drive a truck or SUV, it can get a bit tight getting in and out. If you luck out- there's two parking spots right in front on San Marco Ave. It's a great way to get in and out quickly if you can score one. Overall- very impressed with the location, feel, and staff here. A great veterinary service, and highly recommended for anyone in the area with pets. read more

I was bringing my 15 year old Papillion Riley to the office and it was no problems. Dr Yselonia was his vet. On November 12 Riley was suffering renal failure. I took him in to the office and told Doctor not to over charge seeing my situation and run all kinds of tests. However I did have to euthanize. That's when it got bad. Dr Yselonia was sterile cold and supportive not warm and it was just a procedure. Indeed it was a horrible experience and he charge me a total of $500. I was very agitated with that and the whole experience was horrible indeed. Very sad very upset. Not the way that should went. ,!! read more

I needed to find a new vet for my pooch after moving to Saint Augustine and I could not be happier than the place I chose. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and Dr. Taggart is the best. Friendly, knowledgeable, caring staff. My little dog was not herself after Christmas and they were able to get her in. I was warned I might have a wait but when I arrived I was only there a few minutes before my dog was seen. The doctor called me himself to let me know the results of the tests done. We have 4 pets. Our dogs love both doctors. They were exceptionally compassionate when our black lab became very ill at the end of his life and referred us to a specialist in Mandarin. They all worked together to formulate the best course of treatment giving our boy several extra months and us time to make the right decisions about his comfort & quality of life. My daughter first used when visiting after her dog got bit. Took her in right away. They are very friendly there. I started taking my guys there. I'm more holistic and they don't give you a hassle about it. My other daughter needed flea meds for her cats and didn't want to take them in which her vet wanted. I had an excellent experience here for my cat. The doctor and techs were friendly, kind and handled my very scared cat with so much love. They do not try to up charge you or make your pet undergo procedures they do not need. I was easily able to make an appointment for the same day when I feared my cat had an intestinal blockage. My husband I were vacationing in nearby Ponte Vedra when our dog developed a severe irritation in one nostril. After reading reviews we settled on Antigua Veterinary. We are so glad we did! When I called the office and explained our situation they got us in to see one of the vets that very morning. Everyone in the office was so helpful, friendly and professional! My Spinone Italiana is a rarer breed than usual and he is very knowledgeable about the breed. He is extremely straight forward and direct. I an EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND DISTRAUGHT over my experience at Antigua. Yesterday, I took my dog in to treat an ear infection. It was my first visit. While the staff was holding my dog to do an ear exam, my dog screamed in pain. Immediately after, she was unable to walk, and Dr. Searcy informed me that she has a dislocated hip. To make matters worse, he began to get defensive, said it did not happen on his exam table and insisted it had to have occurred from a previous hip injury/dislocation. My dog has NEVER had a previous hip injury, and therefor his reasoning was incorrect and not professional. He refused to take responsibility, wanted to charge me over $600 to do an X-ray and procedure to put her hip back in the socket. What happened to professionalism and doing the right thing? It was clear Dr. Searcy was not concerned at all about the truth of what actually occurred, nor was he concerned about my dog's well-being. He was more concerned about NOT accepting responsibility on his watch. I am very disheartened about this. My dog is in a lot of pain, and I am now having another vet take care of her injury, which is costing me a lot of money. After consulting with another Vet, I was told that any decent Dr. would have taken steps to treat my dog's injury immediately - and at no cost. #verydisappointed #dotherightthing #animalcruelty #ownuptoresponsibility read more

If I could give this vet a negative score I would...This was by far the worst vet experience I have ever had. No one helped me when I walked in, the 2 girls that might have been techs were cold and rude, the doctor did not leave me feeling as though he was confident in his decisions. No one had people skills, no one seemed happy to work there, no one made it feel like a pleasant experience at all. I have never left a doctor's office so uncomfortable and upset in my life.
