I came down to this area and my friend took us to this amazing place. Everyone is friendly, the prices are right. It's clean and has a celebratory atmosphere. Great little surf shop with a lot of clothes and sandals. Some surfing and skateboard gear but mainly a clothing with rentals shop. Staff is great and owner lady is sweet and helpful. Wish they had kites here as OIB is a great place to kite. It's right on the beach near the pier so if you blow out your Walmart sandals you can pick up a new pair that will last for years here! They have Reef, Rainbow, and this Sanduk or something brand. Great selection of bathing suits, trunks, and shades. read more

I've been coming here for 10+ years. The store's location is beyond ideal for a surf shop, located right on the beach, on the main drag, and directly beside the public OIB pier-- so it's a shame they've wasted the perfect opportunity for a successful business. On the upper level they have a surf shop with swimsuits, t-shirts, sandals, SPF, boogie boards & surfboards, etc. It's a pretty cute store up top & I can always find something I want, but usually the high prices keep me from giving in. Down below they have an arcade & a little storefront that sells snacks and a few lunch foods. I know for certain that the food is very subpar, but my guess is their location is what's kept them open for so long , being the closest food option to those sweaty & dehydrated on the beach. I've never seen the arcade have anyone in it other than maybe 2 kids at a time, which says a lot as it's the only arcade on the island. This place seems so wholesome on the surface and picture perfect for a small town surf shop. But the reason for one star rating is the staff and customer service. The surf shop is run by two individuals, an older woman and a younger man, both of which seem to be extremely corrupt & greedy. They are always very very rude & disrespectful to customers, even in front of other customers. They swindle people out of their money in every situation they can, especially with their rentals. DO NOT RENT WATER EQUIPMENT FROM THEM, especially surf boards. It's overpriced for the beat up boards you'll get, and then they'll "forget" to come pick them up or claim you never dropped them off & wrongfully charge you 2-3 extra days. Do not ignore the other poor ratings, theres a reason they're going out of business. Save your time and money and go down to the ground level of Surf Unlimited or even OIB Kahuna for your surfboard needs. read more

Salty's , where you can rent items for all your needs while staying here in OIB. I have to say originally I was a dissatisfied customer and quite frustrated, with some things that had happened getting our rental delivered. I then requested to speak with the owner and in the end Tim, the owner handled the situation very professionally and took care of us and then some and most importantly kept our information confidential. Sometimes you have to go right to the source to get great customer service and that's what we did! Thanks again Looking forward to getting out there today with our paddle board:) read more

Not great service. Ask for seat backs for the kayaks, they didn't offer them. You will pick equipment up the Saltys 2 location along the intercostal waterway, a couple blocks away. They didn't help with carrying or launching the boat, pretty much unlocked the equipment and left. They seemed bothered by having to rent the equipment. read more

Over paid for a rental, on top of that if you want a back rest in the kayak they charge you 5 bucks per back rest, can we say wow ! Clerk working counter has complete take it or leave it attitude and no people skills. The attendant at the dock didn't even offer to help with the 100 lbs kayak. I would NEVER give them a dime again. This place is terrible!!! We rented bikes for a week. They were falling apart! The bike trailer we rented was dirty and had holes in it. The bikes were very hard to pedal. When I brought this to the owners attention he was full of excuses. We took everything back early after riding twice. The owner didn't care saying he was getting "new" bikes in soon. He did not care in the least about our experience or trying to make it right. The bikes are cheep and the kid trailers are cheep. Low quality means they don't maintain their equipment and just buy new poor quality items. Don't rent from this over priced place whose owner just doesn't care about his customers. read more

My family and I rented kayaks for the week, we called down to check prices and that they deliver to sunset beach, the man we spoke with said yes they deliver as long as you rent "a bunch." We did and they delivered over a day late and then called to tell me they needed to pick them up before 7pm on Friday when I had paid to rent them until Saturday. The man on the phone was rude, not helpful and not considerate, it was very disappointing. If you like to get your moneys worth or just appreciate nice people and good customer service then I would steer clear of Salty's. read more

Great little surf shop on Ocean Isle. Some of the best prices around for kayak and bike rentals. Great customer service. We rented kayaks for the day from the intracoastal location. You can drop them in from there and enjoy a day on the water! Would definitely recommend! read more

Renter beware! I rented a paddle board when I was in Ocean Isle for a weekend during the off-season. When we arrived at the dock to put into the water, the guy working there handed us old, dinged-up equipment from a storage trailer. We put in and had a nice paddle around the ICW, but on our way back in my paddle snapped in half. When I went back to the surf shop to apologize and explain that their equipment had failed on me, they immediately blamed me for breaking their "brand new" paddle. They said the paddles cost $250 new, and that they would "cut me a deal" and only charge me $100. I explained to them that it was an accident that happened under normal use, and that the equipment I received was old and clearly worn after a long summer; but they kept blaming me for breaking it. When I refused to pay, they essentially threatened us by saying "well we have all your information anyway..." which made it seem to us that they were going to act maliciously with our license and credit card information if I didn't pay up (they also had our hotel name and room number... scary!). One would think they would have been happy to have our off-season business, apologize for the accident, and let their insurance cover it, but they clearly just wanted to give out faulty gear and have it break so they can strong-arm you into footing the bill for the upgrade to new equipment. A shameful example of a seasonal business that doesn't care about visitors (their bread-and-butter), and is content to squeeze as much money from them as they can. Even the locals in the shop that overheard the dispute said they were crooks. Don't go here - go to Surf Unlimited across the street for better service read more
