I am deeply concerned about the practices I observed at this office. Communication with patients appears to be lacking, as lab results can take weeks to be reviewed and discussed, even after testing has been completed. I also witnessed what appeared to be expired B12 being used for injections and IV treatments, which raised serious concerns about patient safety. In addition, I was concerned about the qualifications and certifications of staff involved in administering IVs, injections, and overseeing hyperbaric chamber treatments. The way staff members are treated was also troubling. I observed behavior that I felt was disrespectful and unprofessional toward employees. Patients deserve transparency, proper safety protocols, and qualified medical personnel. Based on my experience, I believe these concerns should be thoroughly reviewed by the appropriate regulatory authorities. As a long time patient of Dr Boland, who I believe to be, a great Dr, I'm beyond disappointed in her office, she has had many different people in the office but as of lately with new policies, new higher prices and Shannon working there, It has made it too difficult for me to stay with Salus after over 15 years. Shannon is rude, talked over me, even scolding me regarding phone appt dates that was scheduled by the office! I do not know who's chart she was looking at but insisted I was not on certain medication, so I ran out of my Rx's, after going without my meds for 2 weeks I decided I would not go back. They also declined my husbands thyroid Rx, telling our pharmacy he is no longer a patient, my husband was going to continue to stay with Salus, I never said a word about my husband, apparently Shannon took it among herself to have his Rx's denied. Fortunately we both were able to find a new Dr and office staff who has refilled both of our medications, take care of our medical needs as a Dr and office should! read more

Dr Boland is a wonderful doctor but it appears that her office is not getting messages to her.

Short review: Would highly not recommend. I would select 0/5 stars if possible. Long review: Initial consult with Dr. Gaddam was positive. He took a lot of time going over my symptoms and recommending certain tests and labs for me, which I did. My follow-up appointment is where everything went south. I had an appointment scheduled for 10:15am, Dr. Gaddam was 30 minutes late. Due to a medical emergency, he left and came back twice. I saw him for a total of 5 minutes before another ND came and finished my appointment with me. This follow-up appointment (which cost $150) was supposed to cover going over my labs, and then creating a plan of action to start my healing process. The only thing that was discussed (with a different ND) were my labs, which I already had myself. I left the appointment and was told Dr. Gaddam would get back to me the following week with a plan. As I was checking out, one of the receptionists tried to charge $200 for the visit and I questioned the follow-up visit cost of $150. She told me since the appointment went longer than 45 minutes, I would have to pay an additional $50. I refused and was warned that "accounting may call me to collect the additional $50." I got two calls, one from a receptionist to give me the list of supplements Dr. Gaddam prescribed be, and a separate call from the accountant ... ... I was told that, in post-COVID days (also, COVID is still a thing), it is a privilege to be seen at Salus, and that if I didn't pay the additional $50 they'd be happy to get my chart ready for pick up and I can find care elsewhere. With a little bit of back and forth from a less-than-pleasant accountant, I explained that I'd be happy to pick up my chart and be seen elsewhere AFTER I am able to speak with a doctor about any questions I had regarding the list of supplements that was given to me by a receptionist. I was persistent to speak with my doctor since that is what I paid $150 for. The accountant finished the conversation by shouting, "How about this, I will REFUND your $150 and you can pick up your chart and be seen elsewhere." She then hung up on me. Everything from the rude receptionists, lack of organization, not asking for birthdate to confirm identity when you call in, not having a secure patient portal to send and receive messages INCLUDING labs and test results, and the interaction with their accountant. It was all completely unprofessional. This is an office people go to when they feel like western medicine is not helping them find what they need, people who are willing to pay a lot of money out of pocket to get a wholistic approach to healing the body. This is NOT the place to heal if you're trying to heal your WHOLE self - mind, body, and soul. This is just another western medicine office with a facade of living plants and a wall of supplements they will prescribe you without any explanation, over the phone by a receptionist. read more

I am so happy to have found Salus Medicine and have a new knee thanks to them. I went in for PRP therapy and it has made my knee back to 100%! I dislocated it in the early 90's and have been in pain ever since. I have been pain free since the treatments that were over a year ago. No they have really helped me figure out that my thyroid is in underproductive and have had me taking some supplements that have made a huge difference for me. I have gone to Dr. Bolen at Salus for at least 8 years and feel she is an excellent resource. I have ulcerative colitis and some other health issues that my "typical " health care providers took a very long time to diagnose/ treat. She helped me get referred to the correct specialists and has given me great advice and supplements to treat my issues. I think traditional medicine ( although valuable) has quite a few gaps and Salus has helped fill those gaps for me. If you're considering seeking a naturopath to improve your health, I would recommend giving Dr. Bolen at Salus a try. read more

If you require treatment for chronic or acute conditions for yourself or your family you will not be treated during the pandemic. This was our experience after being a patient of Salus for over a decade. Not only was the staff both insensitive and rude but ultimately left us worse off than if we had relationships with another provider actually serving patients. We will be transferring our records down to Pacific Naturopathic Medical Center in Pismo. Long drive for us North County folks but you need a doctor when you need them. Refusing care is unacceptable and the folks at PNMC have already been incredible. Sorry Salus patients, you're out of luck. read more

Both the Doctors here are amazing! The staff is warm and caring! They are now really good at follow up and paperwork and getting messages out. I started coming years ago and have overcome some serious health issues naturally. I highly recommend getting help for thyroid or hormone issues naturally here. Dr. K is amazing with homeopathic medicine. They did go thru some growing pains, where the Doctors care was excellent but the followup, like answering emails, was not as good as now. Over a year ago they hired a new office manager and she in turn hired really good medical office help. What a blessing for us all. You know how the extremely talented "artist" is not always as good at the paperwork?? The Doctors are artists with blood tests. I have never seen blood tests so wonderfully explained and addressed. Every issue you will understand about what your test is saying! They really care about your health!! And they do not push their supplements. I am so very grateful for Dr Boland and her staff. The minute I walk in the door they greet me and treat me like a very good friend. I've been under her "wellness" supervision for about 2 years and am very pleased with her listening skills, excellent questions and recommended "natural" remedies for the challenges I've faced most of my life. I truly appreciate the advice she has provided when I've called in with questions. Several things are much better in my life, but one example is that I haven't slept for more than 1.5 hours at a time for over 30 years despite medically supervised sleep studies, traditional and alternative medicine without any success. However, with Dr Boland's guidance, I've actually had several nights of over 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I also appreciate the fact that I'm consistently seen at my scheduled appointment time. I certainly could and would understand a delay should one occur given the attention and focus she always provides, but I've never had one. I was so excited when I moved back to Paso Robles and found out a Naturopath was in our area, coming from Northern California you have many more options. When I went to Salus Integrative and had my first visit with Dr. Darya Boland she seemed caring and understanding about my concerns. However, on my next visits she seemed cold and not present to my questions. Before I knew it she was prescribing hormones even though I came in for a natural approach, since I am under 30. After talking to a few friends about Dr. Boland I found out I was not the only one being prescribed hormones and feeling the same about my visits. I have lost trust in her and it is unfortunate that the few bad apples out there ruin it for the integrative medical field, Salus is not what we need in North County. read more

I began seeing Dr. Boland upon the referral of a family member, who had a positive experience and had seen improvements in her health under Dr. Boland's care. My first experience at Salus (not its name at the time) was similar. I appreciated how much Dr. Boland listened to me and helped me based upon my individual health needs, a well-informed background, and her caring personality. However, my subsequent experiences at Salus have not been as positive; I have encountered an environment which, although busier and ostensibly serving more patients, is not giving me the same results as before. At my latest appointment, I wasn't seen until 45 minutes after my appointment time and the meeting itself wasn't even five minutes long. Additionally, it seemed Dr. Boland didn't review my files beforehand, as she gave me conflicting advice as the last time and I had to remind her of several key factors of my health (even though they were right there in the file). Most troubling, what she told me was Googleable at best and questionable at worst; I spent most of my time asking clarifying questions which didn't make anything at all more clear. The appointment became more rushed as I got more frustrated, which didn't make anything better. Finally, as of a month later, no one has called me with the results to the blood work I sent in after the appointment. I finally called in to get some answers. (I'll let you know when I hear back.) Overall, it seems that Salus has changed from a small, health-centered practice, to a larger scale, looks-based "health" center, focused on something else entirely. I've found it to be somewhat of a facade, just another place where people are rushed through under the guise of integrative medicine. The saddest part of this is that it didn't used to be this way. I sincerely hope the team at Salus takes this review and others like it (I have spoken with other patients who feel the same way) to heart;, because what Salus *could* be is greatly needed in the North County. read more

I was previously a patient of Dr. Kirjpatrick's at Salus, but I moved to SLO in early May of this year and decided this was a good time to find a new office. Dr. Kirkpatrick is a wonderful doctor and if he ever leaves Salus, I would love to become his patient again. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, but the turnover in that office is quite disturbing. For a while there, every time I came in to purchase supplements, or to see the doctor, there was a new girl in the front office. The behavior I witnessed from some of the girls was unprofessional and I've never seen such disrespect between co-workers. The last and final time I went in, I was saddened to hear that one of the girls who was consistently kind and helpful had left the office. Between her and Dr. Kirkpatrick, I was able to put aside the drama that went on in there and continue with my treatment plan. There are/were at least two girls that didn't seem fit to work in such an upscale office. I overheard one of the younger girls arguing with what I assume was a patient on the phone. I believe this is the same girl who works in the back when patients get IV's. She always seems to have a scowl on her face, and it does not appear to be very warm and caring as you would expect in an office where you are spending so much. The other lady with the darker hair and complexion seemed to enjoy arguing with co-workers in the front and apparently did not care that I, a patient was sitting in the waiting room. You could cut the tension with a knife and I felt very bad for the other girl (the nice one who no longer works there). She just held her head high and continued with her work, somehow with a smile still on her face. A good friend of mine referred me to Dr. Boland, but I wasn't able to wait 3 months to see her, so I made an appointment with Dr. Kirkpatrick. I am so thankful for him, as he took all the time necessary to explain everything to me and has put me on the road to recovery. Also, he does not push their supplements on patients and I love that he is honest about telling me if I can find a cheaper alternative. I recently got married and my husband and I are now seeing a new Naturopath in SLO, but I highly recommend Dr. Kirkpatrick for those who can overlook the staffing issues! read more

I worked under Dr Boland for a short while and since continue to receive care. While working there, the transformations in peoples lives that she was making was amazing with her knowledge and grace. The illness she found when other doctors had no idea and just treated symptoms with more medications or had made patients sicker. Dr Bolands ability to treat doesn't stop at "well its not showing anything in your blood work, so nothing is wrong." My first recommendation to people these days IS Dr Boland! I am very pleased with the care i have received from this office. I first went there for hormone test and thermography ( trying to get away from xrays, mamograms etc.). Recently I was feeling very ill and extremely fatigued after several test we found that i have a susceptibility to mold or bio-toxins. Frustrated with my traditional physician, I decided to try a physician who blends the latest health techniques with traditional Western medicine. My lab results were in for 4 weeks prior to Rx. She never called me to discuss prescriptions. The office assistants just say: "Your chart is with the doctor"... I never talked to the doctor even when I called with questions and the medical assistants did not know much to clarify or follow up on my needs and concerns. I payed out of my pocket, she interviewed me pleasantly but appears she never again was able to get to my chart and clinically review it. I hope she reduces the intake of new patients in favor of quality care. read more
