It rained all week during our annual Scituate vacation. With the final closing of our childhood hangout shop The Quarterdeck, we road-tripped in search of a new salvage-junk-used-thrift-stuff store. How lucky are we! We found it! Christine runs a tight salvage "ship" with her rabbit warren of rooms featuring clean, smart vignettes of items that transport buyers right into the setting of the glory days of her items. A shabby-chic cotton tablecloth over a vintage Formica kitchen table that is host to a collection of green milk glass and a pile of lusciously displayed fabric cooking aprons. A child's wagon full of clown figures from cloth to glass, just waiting for someone to pull them home (I opted instead for the awesome vintage metal bowl embossed with the depiction of a happy lobster!) A hardcover book from 1969 that claims to be "1000 Jokes For Kids" and yet showcases such gems as "Why are politicians like lobsters?" I'll tell you - because they both change color when they find themselves hot water! I bought it along with a 1949 volume "40 Rainy Day Games." A delightful little book where you can learn how to make a Susie Shy Label Doll. The adult kids in the family are delighted. Claudia also help me dig through Fiestaware, Blendo glass, record albums, vintage chairs and metal art, chenille bedspreads (Oh yes, ladies of a certain age who lolled dreamily on those flowered nubs while blue-eyed, puka-shell neckace wearing Bobby Sherman - our Justin Bieber - sang to us out of a record player way back when), lobster pots that catch lobsters and lobster pots that catch is cooked in, candlesticks, stained glass, crockery, old Polaroid cameras, almanacs, lamps, glass beads, old time sports pennants, local homemade honey (!), new candles and on. And on. The conversation is lively, like a corner barbershop and on my first visit I spent over an hour chatting with another customer about paperback books from the 70s, movies, Burt Reynolds, mustaches and whether or not I thought it may rain. Loved it! From mid-century metals to country primitive woods, Salvage Chic is a sorely needed floating, undulating retro island swimming strongly in an ocean where most small bookstores and groovy "junk shops" are no more than memories. Yet there really is no junk here. Everything is priced to sell and yet every item is truly priceless. I trekked my treasures back to Miami and when I finish this review, I will fill up my online cart. Because yes, Salvage Chic ships!

Inventory is online, so it's super easy to buy. Prices drop on a schedule but don't wait too long because things sell! Delivery isn't included in the purchase price so you are paying for that but if you don't have someone to muscle furniture into a truck and home for you, it's well worth it. I've even shopped online without even driving to Natick to examine a chair because I just knew it was the perfect chair to zuzsh up my gray living room! Last week I moved furniture around in my home, re-purposing some pieces, donating some pieces to Salvation Army Thrift Store (also a great place to shop!) all to change up the look in my decor and scale down the size. Finding one display cabinet and a gorgeous French bistro'ish table later I was happy. Of course, waking up at 3am and realizing my Ethan Allen chairs were NOT going to come close to coordinating with the perfect table, meant one more trip for the chairs the store had coordinated in a display with the table! Delivery of the table and display cabinet was within a week, I took the chairs in my car, and done! There's everything here. Furniture, lamps, wall decor, area rugs. All styles, all prices, all ready to go. Check out the website, make your list and elbow a designer out your way if you need to, because if you love it - someone else is watching it and loves it too!

I tried on a bunch of items, which unfortunately didn't fit, but no worries there because these items are so vintage and authentic, you would never want to force it. I'm a college student who lives in Allston and this store has nothing on the other thrift stores I've been in. I could spend hours in here just looking at all the jewelry and accessories alone! I always find something here, and I've never broken the bank. The prices are extremely fair and the owners truly care about their customers and are proud of their collection.

Wish List Consignment has an astounding collection of men's and women's quality clothing and accessories from about 1910 to the 1980s. This is true vintage and so unique. This is the place to find that beaded cashmere cardigan from the 50s or a classic little black dress right for any occasion whether it be a day at the office or a New Year's Eve bash. I could spend hours there and still feel like I didn't see everything. The shop owner , Gretchen , is knowledgeable and she really makes shopping FUN! They even have a growing selection of household items. I recently came in to pick up a working antique phone for just $25 that I saw on their Facebook page just before Christmas. I have seen people of all ages shopping for everything from prom dresses to Halloween costumes and having a blast. The prices are very reasonable for such unique items and the location is great. You can find the store at the Hanover Mall with its own entrance between Sears and Macy's.
