And lastly the steak meat is probably the lowest grade meat you can buy, it's not real steak it's like an institutional grade mix. Sure, they'll give you a time....30 mins....45 mins....1 hour.....but they are NEVER NEVER EVER on-time. I can't ever remember showing up to pick up the pie and it's ready. Never.....and they're off by a lot sometimes. I've already waited an additional 25-30 mins in the shop after arriving after the original estimate of 45-50 mins they gave me when I placed the order. And at that point he still didn't say oh well it's still on top of the oven, you can still take it, he just continued to say oh I thought she wasn't waiting. This is the forth time in four years they messed up. I won't be going a fifth time. Only thing they have going for them is Macungie is a small town and they sell alcohol as well. Me 5 of my friends came here for a lunch after a long morning and we were trying to get two pizzas and two 2 liters and we were short like 5 bucks but the guy taking our order just said meh it's the holidays, and proceeded to get our order in. The pizza is amazing and always made fresh and the place looks amazing.another time it was pointing out and me and 6 friends came in to eat and we were soaking wet. They continued to take our orders and even gave us a bag of towels to dry off with. They then continued to clean the floor for us after we soaked it. Well it turns out we accidentally ordered from a Sals in Allentown by accident. This Sals graciously offered to make us the pizza. The pizza was awesome! This may be our new go-to place. Ordered a square thin crust pizza with onions a few evenings ago . Was told 30-35 minutes which is their usual wait. I arrived before the pizza came out of the oven so it wasn't sitting on top of the ovens. Needless to say , the only parts of the pizza that were edible were the pieces on the outer edges. Pieces other than that couldn't be eaten. Total waste of $19.00 and if they want to sell thin crust pizza they should learn how to bake it so the ENTIRE pizza is edible! read more

The food is solid. A few inconsistent nights with the pizza, not being quite up to what we expect over 5 years of ordering. CON: They ALWAYS tell you 20-25 minutes to pick up. It is almost always 40 minutes until it is ready. Our last 8-10 visits, this has been the case. Tonight it was 50 mins, after they told us 20-25, which would be fine if they tell you over the phone but they don't, and they leave you standing there in the parlor staring at them for 15-20 minutes(or more). Sicilian pizza is very good, most nights. Sandwiches are a good size for the pricing. The dining room may need a refresh, but don't let that scare you away. If you are going here looking for a fine dining experience, you are going to the wrong place, however, if you are looking for great New York Style pizza, steak and sub sandwiches on rolls delivered fresh daily and tasty calzones, this is the best place in Macungie. This is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that if you've never been to, you are likely to overlook, or walk away. I honestly don't understand why Sal's is rated so low. It seems like 2 years ago there was a counter girl that gave some crappy service and a couple other people had to wait longer than they wanted. I personally have never had to wait longer than they told me and I have ordered 10+ times. I have been to a lot of the top pizza places in the Northeast: Frank Pepe in New Haven, Joe's in NYC, DeLorenzo's in Robbinsville NJ, Lorenzo's in Philly, Umberto's on Long Island, etc and Sal's is a quality pie. I can tell you this, I have lived in Baltimore the last five years and Sal's is better than anything I found there and I probably tried 20+ pizza places there. My wife's family lives in Macungie and I would get Sal's every time I visited. We just moved to the area and I am excited Sal's is a short walk down the street now. The pizza is a very good NY style pie at an affordable price. They run a special on Thursday's for two 16 inch cheese pizzas for like $17.99. Even without the special you can get a 16 inch pie with two toppings for around $14-$15. The hoagies are huge with a decent amount of meat and Amoroso's rolls. If I could give decimal ratings, I'd rank Sal's as like a 4.2 or 4.3 but I gave a 5 to help offset some of the undeserved hate. Give it a try. It's much better than the 3 star rating it currently has. Oh and this is my first review ever despite using Yelp for years.
