Great restaurant. Various Mariachis, all good, but Mariachi Tenampa was the best! They put on quite a show.

This place is awesome! Over 100 years of tradition with wonderful musicians, decent food and strong drinks. They have good mezcales like Koch and Amaras. Don't expect excellent food - that's not the point here, just like you wouldn't complain about your fave local restaurant not having live Mariachi. Thanks to everyone who posted about the scammer in front luring people to another spot, but don't blame Tenampa for this - ignore the scalliwag, wait in the short line (Fri 11 pm, just 10 min) and enjoy the real deal, Historic vibes of Garibaldi right here. Unfortunately we went due to reviews but were highly disappointed. The guacamole was not seasoned properly. No cilantro or lime. you could barely taste the mezcal in the drink. It was basically mango juice. Worst of all was the meal which came out so quickly you know it was reheated. No flavor and the meat was tough. To top it off, it was extremely expensive. One start review because they are literally letting their customers get whisked away from their front door! We showed up to the entrance and some short dude ask us how many in are party. So then he proceeds to tells us that the "restaurant" in on the opposite side of the plaza, and that the place we are in front is there bar area only. So being trustworthy, we got scammed into going to a restaurant called "La Chaparrita". The short dude guides you and informs you that all the locations there at the plaza are associated with Tenampa. We just got here and my family and we got discriminated just because of the color of our skin tone. We've visited for years and just because we don't dress to their expectations or because we are bilingual they decided to not let us in? So let me tell you about this place. Is a very interesting place. They cater to the family and a male culture hierarchy system they have going on. If you are a female solo traveler it's gonna be an experience for you. A lot of fun if you can get past the lack of Service for the solo female traveler, if you're getting a table or if you try to get into a reservation, you're not gonna have the easiest time but if you can get past all that, it's actually a really nice place. I felt very underserved compared to my male counterpart or families and couples but amazing place pass all the weirdness .. you'll have a great time. Really messed up what I just witnessed. We were accused of being far too "inebriated" when my family and I just showed up to share a nice meal and maybe a few drinks. We stood by to see if others got the same treatment and it seemed as if we were the only ones targeted and accused of false accusations. Let's just start off by saying this place was terrible. I came to Mexico City on a family vacation and we wanted to go to Plaza Garibaldi to sight see and eat. Sooo.. we picked this place because it looked packed. We went inside and it was already kind of loud with one group of mariachis but, right as we sat down 2 more separate groups came in, and it became unbearably loud. What sucks is that I looked this place up on Yelp and read good reviews but I was quickly disappointed. I ordered the sampler which was just awful. It completely lacked flavor and just bland. I had also ordered pozole and I received a bowl of chunky meat soup. Nothing close to pozole what so ever. Not to mention the limes they gave us were thin small slivers that looked as if they were being extremely cheap. I've never seen limes cut like that ever. Services was a nightmare as the workers just stood around talking and not being attentive. We had to wave them down several times. The ONLY time they came quickly is when I asked for the check and 5 servers quickly came to clean our table so they can get someone else seated. In hindsight as I looked around it was mostly people drinking and not eating. This is more for people that want to get drunk. All in all, AVOID this place at all cost. There's not many places that make you regret your decision as soon as you got seated, but sadly this was one of them. Save your money and go else where read more

The mango margarita has mango purée so you couldn't even taste the tequila so becareful not to black out loll...we got the appetizer sampler which was absolutely delicious. This place was recommended by locals and people that have visited CDMX in the past and my friends and I had a blast. We love the ambiance, how authentic it felt. The food was ok, we got the appetizer sampler and were a little disappointed with the flavors. Drinks on the other hand were bomb. The whole experience was nice, I'm giving a 4 star review because the service was not the greatest, I understand they were busy but the servers were a little rude, so be prepared for it. So much history here, I didn't even know it when we ended up here for the night but quickly realized once inside that this place was super cool and one of a kind as there were long lines to get a table inside. The mariachi was pumping and the place was rocking to the tunes which I grew up with and the drinks were plentiful, loved the murals of different Mexican musical legends on the walls here, the whole experience is definitely one to be had and enjoyed, as there are not many places like this around in the world! Kind of a tourist trap. The food is ok some of it is even good. I would recommend the birria tacos. One of the only places I have been in Mexico where they bring you salsa but do not bring you chips unless you pay for an order. This seems weird almost as its breaking an unspoken rule of Mexican restaurants. But again this a tourist spot they are looking to squeeze every penny out of you. One of the cool things is that there is Mariachi that play while you eat and create a great vibe. Overall not the best food but some of it is ok. We arrived during someone's birthday and the place was electric This is a great place to enjoy mariachi music. At one point, one of the musicians came in with the harpsichord. They've a wide variety of drinks. The food was okay. I don't recommend their main dishes. The tacos in particular did not have fresh meat. Instead, go with an appetizer or soup. Makes sense since the place is a dive-bar... they are mostly focused on drinks. Still, the staff is friendly, professional and prompt. I can't explain enough how bad this place is. The evening started with our margaritas, I had the tamarind margarita, and it was so sweet that you couldn't drink it; it was basically syrup. We explained this to the manager and he tried to tell us the drinks were on point and he tasted it. I normally avoid traditional/tourist places because they tend to be a bad/fake reflection of the place but I received many recommendations from this place and definitely it worth it. It is clear why they have more than 90 years in service. The staff is super friendly and if you have a special request for your food or beverage they do not hesitate to do it. We started with "Botana tenampa" and then I had "dobladas vegetarianas" and my friend had "huarache con costilla". All the food and salsas are delicious, good portions and reasonable prices. You can find vegetarian varieties different from the typical beans and guacamole & chips so you'll find food for everyone. If you are in Mexico do yourself a favor, stop by this place. It's a short walk from Palacio de Bellas Artes and well worth it! You can try various tequilas and other drinks. I had 5 different tequila double shots and spent about $20 between all! The food is also really good, the tacos are definitely worth a try, This restaurant has several levels and overlooks the Garibaldi square. There are various mariachi shows and you can pay about $5-7 if you'll like a table side show.
