On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair.. The warm smell of Schnitzel rising up through the air... I landed a Frankfurt airport, jumped in my rental car and booked out. I'm tired and hungry. Wait a second, is that a diner? I see a small neon sign: Cadillac Next, I see a Harley Davidson pull into the lot?? In the middle of Germany is an American themed restaurant!? I sit outside at one of the picnic tables. My waitress comes over and hands me a menu. Of course, there are lots of burger choices. I don't want that, I see a Schnitzel platter with fries that seems more of what I'm craving. The beer is also a little trippy. As an American, we're used to a pint at a pub. Something England left us as a tradition. In Germany, a pint is sippy cup size! The beer servings are large and larger. So choice. My Schnitzel with fries comes to the table. There is no ketchup anywhere! That's ok, I dipped my fries in the schnitzel sauce. The Schnitzel, pounded out to perfection. Just a delicious treat that's fun to eat. If you are looking for a place to eat some meat in an American diner without having to leave Germany, then you should stop by here. I came here with my cousin for lunch on a Monday and we really enjoyed our meal. The place is pretty cool and all the decor as well as the staff uniforms are on point to create the typical American diner atmosphere. We ordered some onion rings as an appetizer to share as well as the Roadside burger for me and the BBQ plate for 1 person for my cousin as mains. The onion rings were really good and the Hot & Spicy BBQ dip, we had decided on, was the bomb. I actually saved the rest of the dip for my fries later. My Roadside burger was quite tasty. It came with a side of fries and coleslaw. The fries were crispy and very yummy, the coleslaw made with very little mayo and therefore not heavy at all. I also had one of their home-made ice teas and really enjoyed the drink. On my cousin's plate, I tried the pulled pork and the ribs. I enjoyed both, but liked the ribs best. They really fell off the bone. My cousin really liked everything on her plate except the bacon jam as it came chilled and had a bit of a weird texture and taste. Overall, this was a lovely meal and I would totally return here, but I have to deduct 1 star because of the long wait until our food came and the fact that they were unwilling to cook my burger medium-rare, but insisted that they can only prepare it well done. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It gives me diner nostalgia reminiscent of establishments I've eaten at in America and it definitely serves that vibe perfectly. The menu is easy to follow and looks amazing. The food, unfortunately though, is terrible. I ordered chili nachos as an appetizer. They come out looking amazing in a little cast iron skillet, pickled jalopenos, tortilla chips, and hearty looking chili topped with nacho cheese sauce. They also came out cold. The chili may have had meat in it but I can't really say for certain because of all the red kidney beans. Funny enough they call it chili con carne but don't follow a traditional recipe. I don't think the recipe they use has cumin or chili powder in it so the chili was cold and gelatinous with a sweet tomato flavor. The tortilla chips were off putting because they were like a Dorito but without Dorito flavor more salty/sweet, not sure what the flavor was supposed to be, could have potentially been great had they been warm. I had a prime cheese burger come as the entree. It was a beautiful burger with a tasty brioche bun and fresh arugula, the toppings were delicious but the burger tasted like freezer burn and half was pink and cold. The menu says it was supposed to be served with coleslaw which didn't make an appearance but there were homemade pickles that were well past their prime in freshness. Refrigerator pickles are great for a few days but I could tell they made these two weeks ago or more. Whoever owns this restaurant knows what an American diner is suooosed to look like but has zero idea what American diner food is supposed to taste like. Oh how I wanted this to work out so bad... Unfortunately, my experience here was so poor. Upon arrival I was greeted by a gust of second hand smoke right at the entrance gracefully dancing its way into the diner with me. When we went inside the host asks if we had a reservation, and of course we didn't. Which was fine because we were seated almost immediately. (Almost everywhere it's recommended to make a reservation) Our waiter Nina was quite nice. She was bilingual which made it easy to order. So my party and I ordered our food and Nina reads us back our orders promptly and everything was fine. On the menu there is a section where you can get pancakes or waffles and add sides to customize your breakfast. And that's what we did because why not. It sounded appetizing. 30 minutes go by and no site of Nina and our food. Which was fine but the tables surrounding us received their entrees although we arrived before them. Long story short we get our food 40 minutes after the first 30 minutes. Hmm... Our food arrives and to think since it took so long it would be hot or hey maybe even warm. Nope. It was lukewarm. The same temperature as my already empty water. And ON TOP OF THAT... we were missing so many things from our order. No big deal. I let Nina know and she says "oh you never ordered that because I would have put it in" GIRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL first of all... I am not the one, and second of all yes I muhfckn did, you even read it back to me. Ok ok ok ok ok... so she goes and puts in the order... we wait and we start nibbling on what we have because it's been a journey and at this point we don't really care we just wanna eat. My friend had ordered a burger and he almost threw up because the burger literally tasted like fish. Bruh!!! I even tasted it. It really did. It smelt like it too. Another 30 minutes go by and we catch Nina's attention and she comes up to the table and she lets us know that "ugh the kitchen said they'll be done with it soon it's on the grill right now... they put it at the end of their tickets." WORTH THE WAIT????? Is what one should ask themselves before arriving here. Been here twice and both times the wait was extensive even considering European time frame, three of us ordered an omlette each and waited over an hour AFTER food was ordered which took 30-45 min to get ordered. If in a group of people and don't mind tracking down your wait staff to get a refill or place and order or get your bill; this could be a great place to catch up and relax otherwise; I'm not sure it's worth the wait. We came to this Diner in Kaiserslautern, Germany because it reminded me of the Diners back home in Brooklyn NYC, and I have to say we weren't disappointed. Came here for breakfast and ordered the breakfast nachos which honestly wasn't what i was expecting but they were good. The chili had a sweet flavor and the jalapenos balanced the sweetness. It's so awesome to me to witness Germany's take not-only on the New York-style diner, but on the restaurant chain as well. With so many "mom-and-pop" style options usually available, it's hard to believe ever opening up more than one location of anything. Firstly, Sam Kullman's does not have "world famous beer", nor does it deserve the respect or reputation that the label says it has. Calling yourself great in a land known for ancient and storied brewing traditions is not cool Sam Kullman's. But all joking aside, Sam Kullman's -despite a wonderfully executed gimmick- is just painfully average to me. Of course you'll find better diners out there, but chances are you won't find them anywhere near Kaiserslautern, so taken with a grain of salt it's pretty awesome to have a greasy burger and fries so available. The same qualities that make this place great, make it horrible at the same time. The menu is very well put together, in terms of food composition and physical layout. The staff is always on their game and muli-lingual, something that still continues to impress and keep me grateful. I've made multiple visits at different times of the day with different amounts of people and have never managed to find myself "hooked". Yet, I know I'll be back in a few months when I forget how average this place is. *shrug* And at the end of the day, they're one of the few places that do an American style breakfast. I told Sarah (our waiter) that I'm severely allergic to mushrooms. My food didn't have any; however, I still had a reaction. I explained to her that there had to be some contact with mushrooms at some point. Instead of listening to understand me...Sarah started arguing. We asked for the check so we could pay & leave...but that wasn't enough for her. She walked away & towards her co-workers... very loudly, she started to discuss me to them. (I do understand German!!) I'm not one to tag on a diner however my wife and I sat down around 1656 to eat. First they sat on the back at the table with about a million flies. When the waiter came to take our order at about 1701 we fully ordered everything, to drinks, and light meals. At about 1710 2 parties or 4+ came in and order. Not only did they received their food sooner we had to inquire about our food to see what the heck was going on. After an hour of fanning flies 35 mins later the food come only for us to just want to leave. Ridiculous service and horrible wait I will never eat here again if I do I would love to hold the flies over the food ....smh read more

On The evening of October 25, 2019, a group of hungry Americans wanted to make this diner rich by dropping some Euro's on a meal. We were told, "We are not taking any groups" & turned away. We even clarified this directive from the hostess (in case the message may have been lost in translation). Nope-- please leave ! Get out ! The restaurant clearly has large booths & tables available for large groups. There were three of these tables available for seating.
