A stall in food court in Newin Centre Mall. The reviews are on point about how tasty the rendang is. Coming from California where we have several Indonesian places, it is very rare to find rendang that tastes just like the one back in Indonesia. The Nasi Padang with rendang is very yummy. It is served with sambal ijo (green hot sauce) and sayur (kale). The kuah (gravy) for the nasi padang is good. They also gave a spicy side sambal. Batagor was good. The fish balls are tasty and the tofu is crispy. Golf peanut sauce. Missing jeruk nipis. The owner is really nice. Apparently he is from Cirame! A place near to my hometown Cimahi. Please support his small business!

Samara noodles / rice noodles with chicken a few scraps of veggies - nicely made

This review is of their food at the Indonesian festival at Dundas square (sankofa it has been renamed) on July 26 2025 The reviews said it would be a long wait and by far their booth had the longest lineup. One was to order the 2nd lineup (found out the hard way) was to pick up the food you ordered. I chatted to a few people who told me they make the best Indonesian food though only a small sampling. I tried the rendang beef and the samara noodles (rice noodles with some veggies and chicken) the chicken was sparse Potions were ok. It was $15 each debit or cash only Definitely 1 star off for the crazy wait times. If I didn't love Indonesian food so much I would of left for sure The rendang was amazing though just like I remember it rich and full of flavour I've tried a few other places but for sure THIS ONE WAS THE BEST!!! I would go to Mississauga for that dish alone I was told the soups are really good too Like I said small menu for the festival So yes worth the drive idk if they have a phone number but many people recommended calling ahead with your order cause it's still gonna take a while to get it.

A gem in Mississauga! The food is so delicious. I've been going to them since their old location and it's just as tasty. Lived in Singapore for a year and this is the closest tasting ayam penyet I've had in the GTA. The chilli sauce is so tasty. Recommend ordering ahead for any pick up as they usually take a while to make but it's well worth the wait

There are not many options for Indonesian restaurants in Mississauga. In fact, this is the only option, except for the Sambal pop-up which occasionally opens in the Square One Food District. So, with that in mind, I really wanted to like this place and the food. When we arrived there were a couple people who already ordered and were waiting for their food. The restaurant is more of a take-out place with maybe 3 tables at the side for anyone who wanted to dine-in. We placed a takeout order for the following: 2 X Samara Nasi Padang with beef rendang 1 X Chicken Skewer 1 X Lamb Skewer 1 X Samara Special Fried Rice This place seemed to be operated by a couple who were friendly and very hard working. When not taking orders, they were both rushing around stir frying, preparing, and packing orders, in the very large kitchen which is open to the front. Since it was only the two of them, we did have to wait quite a long time, probably 30 plus minutes, for our food. However, they were very hard working, so I can't fault them for the time it took to get our order ready. The food itself was not as good as I had hoped. Maybe I had unattainable expectations, but the food seemed on the bland side without a lot of spice that you expect from Indonesian food. They did have a really good hot sauce on the side, which was very spicy, but not the same as food cooked in spices. Their satay was pretty good and the pressed rice cakes were well done. However, the beef rendang was tougher than it should have been, and the fried rice seemed to be seasoned with just kecap manis. I want to give them five stars for the service and effort, but the food is only a three at the most. So, I'm rounding up because I appreciate the hard work they put into their food, it's a local place, and it's the only permanent place in Mississauga for Indonesian food.

Hole in the wall hidden gem that is worth the trek out here. An Indonesian colleague told me about this place and she said it's the most authentic in Toronto. It only has 4 tables so a lot of people call ahead and order takeout. I got there at 1 pm on a weekend and was able to get a seat because we were only two people. If you're more than 4 people, definitely do takeout because it is a tight space. You order at the cash, sit down and pay after you've finished. The staff are so sweet and this was definitely a IYKYK place. There were lots of Malaysian/Singaporean/Indonesian customers coming and going. I highly recommend the beef jerky which was soooo flavourful. Their satay ayam was also so tender and flavourful too.

A small takeout restaurant for Indonesian food. They also have few tables for dine in. The beef randang is really good. The meat is well cooked, tender and aromatic with rich gravy. Highly recommended. We also had chicken pepes (chicken with spices wrapped in banana leaf, grilled). The meat is really tender and almost melts in mouth, but tastes a bit blunt. The service is good, and always with a smile.

Food was good. I liked their nasi goreng ayam and found portions to be very generous, however there was not enough chicken in the rice (had to look for pieces of it), more rice than anything else. It was tasty and I could tell it was made fresh. The chicken satay was very good but not consistent since some skewers were tiny and others, a good size. The peanut sauce was great. Their mie goreng was tasty but I didn't find the servings of protein to be generous. It was mostly noodles and not enough protein. The roti canai was OK. Tasted like the frozen one but I liked the sauce that came with it. I'd come back to try more as there's not many Indonesian restaurants around the GTA. They also sell imported snacks and drinks from Indonesia. Note: debit or cash only.

    Mi Goreng with Chicken

A hidden gem indeed! It was our first time having authentic Indonesian food and it certainly impressed us. Ordered the Mi Goreng & Beef Rendang after asking the owner what they recommended. The Mi Goreng was HUGE and so savoury! Def the star of the show. The Beef Rendang was also good and unique (felt like a cross between a spicy yet light curry and a Korean Galbijim - soy sauce braised beef rib). The side jalapeños and kale (?) were very unique! If I had to nit, I wish the garlic rice had a little more flavour. We dined in for lunch - they have 2 small tables and they served us quick. Not the most aesthetic place but sometimes the "hole in the wall" experience adds to the authentic experience! Overall, for the price point, flavour, authenticity, and portion sizes I'd recommend checking this spot out!

I really enjoyed the fried mackerel with rice. It was fresh and flavorful. My brother got the fried chicken and it looked spicy. The kangkong dish (water spinach) had a strong umami flavor. Finally the satay was juicy and best that I've tried so far in GTA. I've lived in South east asia for more than 10 yrs and I can safely state that this spot is very authentic. I'm only docking 1 star because the soup that came with the dish was cold and looked brackish. It was a bit too watery but maybe that's how it's supposed to taste? Note that there are about 3-4 tables for dine-in but it seems to be more of a takeout spot.

This whole in the wall is some of the best food you'll ever eat!!! We ordered takeout and ate in the park was super delicious. The samara fried rice is to dieeee for. Chicken curry was also really good. Homemade roti was so buttery and delicious. AND THE ICED TEA IS A MUST (and comes in a huge container for two)!!!!

Have been meaning to try Samara Kitchen for a while now. Was in the area yesterday so decided to pick up a box of mee goreng. Located in an industrial estate, very discreet space. Quite a crowd on the weekend. The mee goreng here is the Indonesian version, not quite the same as those sold in S'pore-Malaysian. For $14, it wasn't too bad. Big portions. They used maggi mee instead of the fat yellow noodles that is typically used in mee goreng. Taste.... It's a bit too sweet for me. You can definitely taste the kecap manis. Can't really detect any chilli in it at all though, which is disappointing. Also, there is no "wok hei", which is also disappointing. A wok-fried noodle or rice dish from Southeast Asia would have wok hei if cooked the proper way.

As an Indonesian person: it's authentic, the people are fantastic and the food is delicious and good for the price

Wanted to try Samara Kitchen ever since I stumbled onto some glowing Yelp reviews a few months ago. I have been dying for some quality Indonesian food. Samara Kitchen sounded promising and delivered in spades. The restaurant is a very basic setup in an industrial part of Mississauga. 85% of the space is a giant kitchen, with a small narrow eat-in area at the front. There are about six 2-seater tables that can be pushed together if necessary. From a steady flow of patrons running in and out of the restaurant, it looks like they do a lot of takeout. Menus can be found on the tables and you order with the staff. We ordered two familiar dishes of mie goreng and beef rendang, as well as a new dish of pepes udang (shrimp with signature spice wrapped and baked in banana leaves). The food took a few minutes as it was made to order. The people working in the kitchen brought it over (no dedicated waitstaff here). While we waited we had sweet ice tea which I believe was brewed in-house and was very refreshing. Also, free refills! The mie goreng was delicious and flavourful. I haven't had it since our visit to Bali and it immediately brought back memories of the trip (a good sign). The beef rendang stole the show for me. The coconutty flavoured meat was so soft and tender. The seasoning of the sauce combined with fragrant jasmine rice created a flavour you expect in a home cooked meal. The pepes udang was a little spicy and a little wild. A combination of fragrant Indonesian spices combined with soft succulent shrimps created flavours that kind of dance on the tip of your tounge and leave a lasting impression. I doubt I will go through Mississauga without at least getting some takeout at Samara Kitchen. This is an amazing place for good food.

Out group tried the Biscuits and gravy, shrimp Benny and brisket Benny as well as fried green tomato, kids apple johnny cakes and grilled cheese. The portions are generous. The chicken with the biscuits and gravy were 2 pieces of brined dark meat chicken served on a biscuit and collards smothered in pork gravy. Chicken was very juicy and super crunchy, collard needed some acidity, biscuit was light but a little overdone and gravy was not as fat a decadent than in the south, lighter but still tasty, wish they poured it a little more generously. The fried green tomato was outstanding as the accompany silly aioli situation was great. Kids apple jonnycakes were a hit and loved the hot chocolate with mini marshmallows for the kiddos. Gtilled cheese was a hit - got the pull and the bread was well toasted. The home fries were a bit of a let down. Although very cool and layered, they seemed very greasy, maybe oil or flattop wasn't hot enough? Benny's were both good, shrimp cake was well cooked and crisp and brisket was flavourful and moist. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was made to order I visually saw them drop the chicken into the oil, so it was a little bit of a wait but I knew my food would be hot and fresh. The sandwich was a lot bigger than I expected and they used a different bun than I'm used to. The breading was delicious it was not too thick, it was crunchy, and the chicken was juicy it is breast meat but it was juicy. I chose spicy I think the sauce that they use is what makes the spice not the actual chicken itself I could be wrong but the chicken itself didn't taste that spicy to me. The bun that they use is good quality bun but I did find that it was a little bit too dry I would have preferred the regular soft bun that you normally get at other fried chicken chains. Overall it was delicious the chicken was delicious and it was extremely filling halfway through the sandwich I was starting to feel full, I couldn't imagine if I got a combo and had to eat sides on top of the sandwich. I do think a big part of it is the bun The bun is filling on its own.
