We had our last dinner of our top to Toronto here. The restaurant is small and cozy. The menu is on the smaller side and many of the typical stir fries were missing. The Massaman curry had a sweet and salty taste, but the sauce could have been thicker. The chicken and potatoes didn't absorb the flavors well, creating a disconnect with the curry. The biggest issue with the chicken soup was that the broth wasn't rich enough--it felt watered down and lacked the creamy texture that coconut milk should provide. The spices were also underwhelming, leaving only a faint and bland aroma. The most surprising part was that an extra portion of white rice cost $3.9. Is it some kind of premium rice? I didn't taste anything special about it. Since I ordered an extra soup, they could have included more rice, or at least informed me that additional rice would be charged separately. Spending an extra $4 for rice significantly lowered my impression of this meal. Finally I got to try this place, not often that I come to downtown, lunch time had some people, I decided to get the soft shell crab pad Thai, pineapple fried rice, the portion size is massive but it's pricey as well so it compensates, the decor was nice very authentic like I'm in Thailand. The service was really good I even got a free black ice tea, special homemade, the only thing here is they don't do any substitutions so if you can't eat anything and you likes. Dish I'm sorry they will not do anything about that which is unfortunate I can understand why more work. It really didn't have any outstanding flavour and seemed way too overpriced for what you pay for. The portions were alright but I think it wasn't really worth paying over $17 for. Thai Iced Tea: Nice and refreshing drink to go with the food. Usually I don't really get drinks as much in restaurants but I wanted to try at least one of the classic drinks to see if it's different from the usual drink shops but it was pretty average. The service was attentive and friendly. I think it was a bit overhyped as the place was very well-decorated & looked great from photos, however the food was not worth the price point especially when there's better Thai places to visit in Downtown Toronto. read more

My friends and I had a great experience at Si Lom Thai! We waited about 45 minutes to get a table on a busy Saturday. The servers were pleasant and attentive. They all greeted us when we came in and when we left, our water and wine glasses were always full. The restaurant itself was not too large and dimly lit. There was pop music playing in the background but it was not offensively loud, which was much appreciated. We ordered: Papaya Salad with Peanuts was really tasty and fresh, I think it's a pretty good introduction dish to someone who does not like too much fish-sauce flavour. Pad Thai Moo Krob was DELICIOUS. The pork was crispy and satisfying. Loved the few pieces of pork fat + crispy skin in the dish. Biting into these pieces felt like finding treasure every time. The noodles were well cooked and had great texture and flavour. I stopped ordering Pad Thai at restaurants but this one was really good! Penang curry with shrimp was tasty. I was not feeling Sum Tom that day so I did not have any, but it smelled really strongly of fishies and my friends really enjoyed it. It was very busy and it seemed like they could use more hands to service the customers. Nonetheless, the waitresses were friendly and attentive. They took my order as soon as I was ready. Solid 3.5 stars. First time back since pre-pandemic times. Dropped by on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty empty (3 other groups were seated). Friendly staff, quick service, and food was served in 15 minutes. Honestly, nothing wrong with the food but it's not spectacular, mouth watering delicious. It feels authentic but also really standard Thai food. If you're in the Church-Wellesley neighbourhood then definitely check it out but don't specifically travel to eat at the restaurant. I started off with the spring rolls and they were really good. I enjoyed the dipping sauce that it came with. For my main I had the Penang Curry with Chicken. We have been looking for restaurants that serve "Pu Pad Pong Karee" (Stir- Fried Crab with Curry Powder) in GTA. Although I have never had "Pu Pad Pong Karee" before, I was intrigued by this food as those who know it are raving about it. But I found that it is very hard to find Pu Pad Pong Karee in GTA - may be because of the high crab price at this time? Or maybe because of how the name of the dish sounds?? Or the different ways of spelling this food? Anyways, I found that Si Lom has it. Excitedly, we ordered Pu Pad Pong Karee and Massaman Curry (chicken) for take-out. The Pu Pad Pong Karee was disappointing - I expected fresh spice-coated crab is bound together with fluffy eggs. This is what I heard from those who rave it. But Si Lom's had just a small deep-fried soft shell crab and it was mushy. The spices and other ingredients were wrapped in overcooked scrambled eggs. Also, it was so salty that killed the crab's flavor. This dish is $28. Massaman curry (chicken)'s gravy was very loose and I did not feel the punch of spices that many other good Thai restaurants' have. Good thing was that the staff was very pleasant, efficient and friendly. Order is quickly prepared. The vibe of the neighborhood is absolutely enjoyable. Looks like they have many exotic cocktail options. If you are looking for authentic Thai food, this is not the place, but if you want to enjoy something different from ordinary pubs, and want to enjoy unique drinks dine-in, this place is worth a try. read more

Called the day before to place an order but they said need to pay to input the order into their system so called back the next day the moment they opened to place the order. The person on the phone was very nice and helpful. Pick up was smooth, arrived at the restaurant and everything was packed and ready to go. They got the order perfectly and there were no mistakes. Everyone got a Thai iced tea and multiple people commented that there was an artificial flavour to it. Would not recommend it. Ordered the pad Thai moo krob. Nothing wrong with the pad Thai, that tasted as it should and the portion was good but the crispy pork was terrible. It was over fried, hard and very chewy. Definitely, would not recommend it. I didn't come back until now bc they're on the expensive side at an average of around $20 and up per dish, however now that inflation has made everything else this price it's kind of averaging out although it's still more expensive than many other places. I see some ppl didn't like the crispy pork belly but I think it might be because they ordered it as takeout. We had it in the restaurant and it was sooo crispy and delicious. However bc it's fried pork belly, if it were to be covered in a takeout container or if it were to get cold I can imagine that some parts will become very hard (the skin part of the pork) and other parts will become too chewy. My opinion is that I don't think their crispy pork series should be ordered for delivery or takeout bc it's not meant to taste like that. We had the pad si ew chicken $18.95 - loved the flavour and the texture of the noodles, the basil moo krob with fried egg (crispy pork belly) $20, and the Nua toon (beef in soup) $25 - the beef was super tender and the soup was delicious. I was also curious abt their green tea Thai iced tea ($6.25) - it was pretty good, taste just as strong as the red tea version but with jasmine tea fragrance. One of my favourite Thai joints in the city. Some Thai places have their dishes a bit too sweet for my liking, this place is more a savoury and salty/tangy lime flavour. It's one of the few places that has an amazing Tom yum fried rice I've been looking for! Great Pad Thai and a Green Tea Thai Iced Tea option. Strangely, I seem to be allergic to regular Thai Iced tea which uses Black tea. I typically enjoy them, but my stomach does not. My last visit just the other day, along with the Tom yum fried rice and GT Iced Tea, my partner and I ordered the Fried Chicken dumplings and the Soft Shell Crab Pad Thai, delicious! It tasted like lychee juice with a splash of Soho (lychee liquor). Very weak!! I had the same drink at a gay bar down the street at a bar and it was strong and tasted wonderful! If you want Thai spicy or extreme spicy, there's additional fee for that which I find odd-don't think other Thai restos charge. The spicy level was super spicy and I had to jug down a lot of water. The Shrimp Tom Yum Fried Rice was also very good. It was moist and full of flavours. Lastly, the Si Lom Windmill drink had a nice presentation. Unfortunately we came for special menu items such as the soft shell crab pad thai and they weren't available. The chicken pad thai is decent, nothing too special. Portion sizes are very very small for what you pay. Almost all the main dishes are over $16. I know they raise their prices due to inflation. I ordered the Khao soi. It was alright but I've definitely had better Khao Soi at other restaurants in the city. Very small bowl and it came to $20 after taxes.
