We were in UTM this afternoon, as it's rare to find authentic Chiuchow food, we went here for dinner again just after a short while since our last visit. We sat and heard the sizzling wok with the chefs working so hard to prepare dishes for guests. The restaurant decor was dated, but it's the foods that count. Again we had the combo dish with duck slice, duck feet, red sausage and marinated tofu. We also had the Chiuchow stir fry with chives, squid & taro sticks, the ingredients are very Chiuchow. We also tried the fried taro rolls, it was served hot & fresh, not bad! My last visit to Chiuchow was almost 15 years ago when my uncle was sick, that was the last time I ever met him, I wish him well at the other end, miss him! read more

Another fantastic dining experience! Came with a couple of friends from Hong Kong - one of them has Chiuchow relatives and, hence, has REALLY high standards for Chiuchow food. He ordered for the table. And I got to try some new-to-me dishes that were very tasty! Like the fried shrimp ball and crab ball - served with Mandarin-honey sauce. Service was fast on this Saturday night. Our food came out quickly, and help was readily available. Nice to see that most servers are still masked for public safety. This place is in the corner of golden plaza and recommended by my friends. It is a good choice to grab a quick bite. Braised pork belly with preserved vegetables was great but pork/prawn rice in soup, seaweed with dumpling & meatball soup and braised duck were good too. Marinated duck & pig intestine were good. The duck was warm not cold like at some places, yet not overcooked. The intestines were tasty & bouncy. Both & the complimentary tofu were thick cut. Crab meat & fish maw soup: regular was huge (6 bowls' worth). It tasted OK. It had a lot of fish maw, but it had a spongy texture so it was not so good. There was very little crab, but there was roe. House special oyster omelette was very good: crispy, chewy, sticky & flavourful. There was quite a lot of oyster though not much egg (it was mostly starch). The mouthfuls with some oyster were a bit salty. Chicken & preserved olive fried rice was good. It was light, with some smoky wok flavour. The egg portion was generous. We decided to stop off here for lunch before going towards the border. We were shopping at Best Shop for some last minute stuff when we saw this place. The last time we came here was over 10 years ago. The restaurant is small and cozy, with tables covering every inch of the floor and framed posters of food hanging from the walls. The kitchen has chickens and ducks hanging in its singular window and a green roof hangs over the kitchen itself. There is also a shrine in the back of the restaurant. The place looked pretty much the same as when we last came here. Hubs ordered N9 Marinated Duck Noodle in soup and thought it was pretty good. He liked it that they separated the duck from the noodle soup so that it wouldn't be soggy. Daughter ordered lunch special L10 Beef Brisket Wonton noodles. She liked hers a lot and would definitely order it again because you can never go wrong with shrimp wontons. She also liked my order. LOL. She had a drink with her lunch special and ordered hot milk tea and loved it. We both agree that this place served the best hot milk tea out of all the places we tried. Lastly, I ordered lunch special L13 black beans with bitter melon fish ho fun. I loved my order. It had just the right amount of black beans and the bitter melon was perfect. I notice that ho fun in Canada are dried and not fresh. I wonder why they only serve dry. The reason why I see this is that I notice that the ho fun are all in perfectly equal shape. It looks like the ones sold in Chinese supermarkets. I also had a drink with my meal but I ordered iced milk tea for an extra $1.00. Service was pretty quick. It's quite difficult to find an authentic Chiu Chow food, let alone good Chiu Chow food. This place got them all! Small restaurant, definitely come earlier to snag a table before the dinner rush. The restaurant also do online/ take-out orders so the convenient option is also available. Assorted marinated platter was a staple Chiu Chow dish, consisted of a few slices of duck, pig ear, pig tongue, sausage, egg, beef calf, squid, pig intestine, pork belly, and tofu slices at the bottom. For a stellar price of only $13.50, worth the price of the amount of food you get. The sauce wasn't too salty, as I have had ones that you could taste soy sauce rather than the food itself. All meats were very tender, cut to decent size. Minced Pork & Oyster w/ Rice in Soup was decent, reasonable amount of oyster pieces. Hefty amount of sliced ginger in the soup so no fishy/ ocean taste to the soup. Their portion was leaning on the big side, we ordered the "regular" sized was a medium sized bowl. Then, if you can get through to place your "cash only" order, you best know what you want. The time estimate for order pickup is quite accurate. Only 3 customers are permitted inside at any given time as per lockdown restrictions. Inside the front door area, the barricade erected with tables are lined with signs for all the food delivery services like Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc. Today's meal choice was the $63.95 takeout combo of 4 dishes (Sweet & Sour Pork w/Pineapple, Deep Fried Fillet w/Sweet Corn Sauce, Vermicelli & Mix Vegetables, and a Minced Pork & Eggplant. What's the best thing about the 2/3/4/5/6 item combos? All come with the choice of a (half) Marinated Duck or (half) Steamed Chicken, Soup, and Steamed Rice. Our combo selection had rice and soup for 4 along with the famous Guangdong style marinated duck. Lunch was tasty, delicious and filling plus the value was excellent. It was a place that my family came all the time as we are ChiuChownese and had enjoyed the mother village tast of this restaurant. It was a big disappointment to come back after pandemic and found out the food are no longer tastes the same. One of the famous disk is called the Shrim and Crab cake or roll. It should tastes like the name shrimp and Crab. But it was tasted nothing but dough!!! Told the waiter but the answer was it always has been this way! Anyway, stay away from this disk. As Chinese New Year is approaching, I figured I should check out some of the Chinese cuisine restaurants around my area. With good reviews on both Google and Yelp I wanted to see how Chiuchow Man Chinese Restaurant compared to some of restaurants in Markham. Decor/Atmosphere The place was well lit and spacious. With Covid protocols currently active, they have blocked off a major portion of the restaurant to keep the workers safe. The place was bustling with people ordering takeout which is usually a good sign for a restaurant. One of my drawbacks was that it was a bit chaotic; there was no proper numbering system so there was a lot of confusion when picking up your order. In addition, the restaurant only takes cash which makes it a huge hassle for everyone that pays with card. Food The rice vermicelli was kind of bland. There wasn't a lot of bbq and shrimp portioned in the rice vermicelli so mainly the dish comprised of its somewhat flavourless noodles. Without another dish to complement this I wouldn't recommend ordering it. The fried rice sadly shared similarities with the rice vermicelli with the lack of portions (bbq pork and shrimp) and flavour. These were advertised as standalone dishes hence my disappointment. The sweet and sour chicken was cooked nicely. The flavour is spot on to what I would expect. The chicken itself was soft and tender. There is a quite a big portion of chicken given for this dish. I will need to try this dish again indoors since the crispiness was lost due to the moisture of the takeout box. Lastly the satay beef was pretty good. The flavour was pronounced and the Chinese broccoli absorbed a lot of the beef's flavour. One issue was that a few of the beef pieces were a bit chewy. I do wish this dish came with more beef slices. Though I was mildly disappointed with the rice vermicelli and fried rice, the chicken and beef dishes were the saving grace that would bring me back here. read more

It's not really easy to find a Teochew/Chiuchow/Chaozhou restaurant anywhere in North America, and I'm pretty happy we found this one. We went on a Saturday afternoon and got seated right away. There are a lot of tables at this restaurant and it was pretty empty when we went. You are served tea with every meal (maybe rose tea? Not exactly sure which tea). If you order a lunch special, you get to choose between coffee, tea, or soy milk as your drink. The menu has so many items, I felt like I was looking at a Cheesecake Factory menu. There is definitely at least one dish you will find in the menu that you would want to try, even if you are a picky eater. Service was pretty quick, but I'm not sure if it would take a lot longer if it was crowded. We ordered chinjew chicken (lunch special) and fish-made noodles w/ shrimp & pork. The chinjew chicken is crispy and has an interesting taste to it. It has a slight savory taste to it in my opinion, but not sweet or spicy. The fish-made noodles are a must-try, I have never had anything like it before and I've never seen it anywhere in Chinatown, so I am guessing it is not a commonly found/made dish. This is quite the drive from Toronto, but if you have access to a car and/or want to try Teochew/Chiuchow/Chauzhou food, I would recommend you try this place. read more

Right when we got seated we were hurried to order everything at once and was rushed to finish eating and leave the restaurant as soon as possible. Restaurant was not very clean and was super hot & humid as there was no ac, only a couple of fans blowing. The food was also mediocre. Quite oily and not as good as we were expecting or hoping for as we drove from Toronto to Mississauga to try this restaurant. I wish this place was easier to get to because Chiu Chow food is not that easy to come by in Toronto. It's out in Mississauga so basically only accessible by car. It's been around a long time and in addition to being a popular spot for dine-in, it also seems to do brisk business on their take-out side as well with a constant stream of people picking up food. Having said that, if you can make it out there, it's a tasty spot for traditional Chiu Chow chinese food. Three of us shared a Chinese broccoli (guy lan) with satay beef sauce, low soy ngaap (braised duck with special master soya sauce), jiu yeem yow yu (salt & pepper deep fried squid) and ho bang (oyster pancake). The duck was awesome and fresh. The oyster pancake was rich and fresh and served with fish sauce. All dishes served hot out of the kitchen, promptly. Another decent Chinese restaurant located in the Golden Square Plaza that serves authentic Chiu Chow style food. Famous for their marinated duck which you can order half, full or an assorted platter of marinated meats. Very flavourful and for $12 you get a fairly big portion to share with the table. It comes with ox tongue, duck feet, duck wing, beef shank, red sausage, tofu, duck kidney, pig ear, fatty char siu. Restaurant is a good size that can accommodate about 80 people with a few big round tables and a bunch of smaller tables the seats 4 to 8 people. Like most Chinese restaurants food is served family style for sharing, but they do also have some noodle soup for individual servings. read more

Another OK restaurant at the Golden Plaza, has a decent selection for lunch items at relatively cheap prices (under $10) and good for dinner parties as well with great seafood combos. I came here for weekday lunch with a colleague of mine and we got squid meatball and fish dumpling noodle in soup (added some fried fish skin for +$1) and the fried tilapia with corn on rice. The noodle was supposed to be their house special signature dish but I didn't find it to be too memorable. The portions of the toppings weren't very big and I've had better fish dumplings in the past. However, I'm glad that I ordered the fried fish skin on the side because I was curious of the taste and it turned out really good. My colleague got the rice and from the looks of it there were A LOT of rice. I swear the amount of rice there would be enough for 2 people, but there weren't that many pieces of fish there. As I expected the bill came out to be around $10 so it's a decent Southern Chinese cuisine restaurant to give it a try without breaking the bank. However, as I mentioned previously, they also serve a lot of seafood dishes and obviously those are a lot more expensive than the simple lunch dishes. MY GO TO CHINESE PLACE. My family and I used to frequent here before Bayview opened up next door. After it closed down, we had looked around but I think we're going to start coming back more often. The atmosphere isn't too loud, as you might expect a Chinese restaurant to be. Although the furniture is super worn in (from being old) it's all still very usable, which is probably why they've kept it. The servers are always really nice, regardless if you speak Cantonese, Mandarin or English. They honestly try their best to make sure you leave as a satisfied customer whilst still fulfilling their obligatory roles. The food is fantastic!!! I recommend the free range chicken, pineapple pork, or the deep fried squid. Those are my absolute favourite Chinese dishes and they are produced amazingly here. The price is extremely affordable, however it's cash only.... which is the only reason I put 4 stars. read more

I've never been in this restaurant for a sit down meal, but I did get takeout (thanks Covid-19!) recently. Ordered a 2 dish combo (seasonal veggies with salted pork, salt and pepper calamari/squid) which also includes marinated duck Chiu Chow style, pork intestine pepper soup, white rice, PLUS a special stir fried green onion, ginger lobster for $10.88(!!). Everything was great, especially the marinated duck as I felt it was tender and cut in right sized portions with sauce that was not overly sweet or strong. All in all a great choice. Authentic mom's and pop's resto, 10/10 would recommend. Their fried rice is cooked over high flame very fast and served fresh hot and it's got the aroma of authentic Asian street fried rice. Literally my go to order . They have the best marinated cold dishes (the assorted one is good, I like duck feet, wings and tofu) in my opinion - saltiness and other flavours just balance perfectly and it tastes natural and preserves the original taste of the food you put in your mouth. Not like those artificial flavours ones that leaves you thirsty after the meal. Anything else on the menu can't go wrong. read more

It's CHEAP. Chinese people love a good deal and most of us, even if the food is really good, will steer clear of an expensive restaurant...unless someone else is picking up the tab. So if you just want a quick meal, why bother going to Chez Pierre, when you feel satisfied with a noodle soup for under $5?? I usually get the same thing whenever I come here and it's the Fish Dumpling Noodles (wonton/rice). The wrapping for the dumplings are made out of fish maw and it's delicious! A few years back, it used to be served with a coupla pieces of deep fried fish maw, but they don't do that anymore. I wished that they would have an option to include that for an extra $1-2 dollars! We were actually going to dinner to a restaurant around the corner but we passed this restaurant and my wife commented that she hasn't had chiu chow cuisine in a while. So we decided to split our dinner at 2 restaurants. After eating our half dinner at the first place (which by normal standards was a full dinner, if I'm being honest with myself), we came here for dinner part #2 and got the Fried Lobster with Ginger & Green Onion, Marinated duck (Chiu Chow style) and Deep Fried Filet with Chili Salt (which turned out to be grouper filets). For greens, we went with the tried and tested snow pea leaves with garlic. Can't usually go wrong with that. What we really wanted, instead of the fried grouper, was the deep fried pomfret fish. It has been ages since I've seen that on a menu but it was the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration and the restaurant was packed all night long. So, unfortunately they were all out. I give them props for even having it on the menu though. The food turned out to be quite ordinary to le wife and my disappointment. The lobster had too much corn starch in the sauce. After cooling slightly you could see the huge gelatinous clumps of corn starch clinging to the lobster - but hey it's lobster so we ate it all. The duck was disappointing as it had a mushy texture to it which was strange and slightly off putting. Nothing special about the fried grouper either but it was salted nicely. Good drinking dish if you're having a cerveza or two. I'm not sure if we got the right dishes. If I lived in Mississauga, I'd come back here to try some of the other stuff but unfortunately we were only there for a day. Boy I really wish they had the pomfret. I'd have to say that this asian restaurant is one of the best in Mississauga. I've been coming here since the days that I lived in the city which is at least 10 years ago so you know that any time a business has been around this long, they must be doing something right! You'll expect consistent service every time...friendly and efficient. The cuisine is a different type of asian cuisine offering authentic dishes from the Chaozhoa culture which is from a unique area of China. I love the flavour of every dish but my favourites are the Seaweed with Fish Dumpling & Meatball Soup and their Pan Fried Turnip patties, both made fresh every time. They also have lunch specials so you can easily get a filling lunch for under $10 including a drink. I recently had the Thin Rice Noodle with Beef and Black Pepper and it was delicious. They are also known for their crab, marinated duck and chicken. The ambience is also very authentic giving you that experience as if you were enjoying a meal from a restaurant in China. It might have been our hunger but we honestly felt all the dishes we ordered were fantastic. The kitchen was swamped with orders so we had to wait a bit for our dishes to come out. The didn't disappoint, even after all these years. The restaurant is rather small so they fill up fast around dinner time, even on weekdays. (We were there on a Tuesday evening.) We ordered the lemon chicken, thin rice noodle with beef & black pepper and the Chinjew Chicken. To be honest it was aiight! After reading reviews I expected to be blown away but unfortunately it was mediocre Chinese food. The lemon chicken was good it had pieces of mango in the sauce with is different and the noodles were fresh and seasoned to perfection. Solid 3/5. Service was also 3/5.
