It is the only app that worked for me and I even updated the amount of people and still was accommodated. I had my 7 month old grandson with us and the owner seated us in an upstairs room that gave us some privacy and we did not feel we were bothering any other dinners. Funny how you read a review you wrote over a year ago and I see I ordered the lamb kabob. Well this time I ordered the lamb shank. Yikes this was one awesome dish. The shank was covered in rice and the it was like a hidden gem underneath that mound of rice. Curry is something that just does not agree with me. This dish was spiced but not heavy. Sameem has a regular event, which is an introduction to Afghan Dining and Culture. We went last night, and it was fantastic! It was held in a separate room, with seating mattresses, or you could sit in the "western" seats at a table. The owner led a very interesting discussion about Afghanistan, and its food and culture. There were about 20 people there, and we all also were given a chance to get to know each other. The best part was that, during the presentation, the food just kept coming! I honestly cannot remember what it was all called, but there was rice, lamb ,beef, bread, eggplant, dumplings, salad, dessert, and much, much more. We were all stuffed, and the owner encouraged us to take some home since there was a lot left! Afterward, he came by our table and discussed his life in Afghanistan and the US, and the politics of both countries, in a very judicial manner that showed a lot of insight. We have driven by this restaurant many times but it wasn't until I read Yelp reviews that I decided that we should try it for lunch one day. I am really glad that we tried it. It looks small when you first walk it but there are more tables upstairs. We were warmly greeted and told to sit wherever we liked. We looked over the menu and made our choices. Majordomo decided to get the spicy chicken pasta and I thought the Afghani Muntoo sounded intriguing. The description said "steamed pockets stuffed with seasoned beef...". I was delighted with what came out. It was like a tortellini but with a softer shell and a little larger. The sauce it came in was garlic yogurt with split peas. It was absolutely wonderful. Majordomo's pasta tasted equally good and wasn't too spicy. He was a member of the clean plate club. Would I come back here? Yes, there were a few other dishes I would like to try. read more

After I posted this review below, I received about a week later a message from the owner offering a redo on the order. I really appreciated that. I won't take him up on his offer for free food (everyone has a bad night occasionally), but I'll definitely give them another chance in the next few weeks. I upgraded my star to 3 for the contact. original review: I was really disappointed in our pick-up order from Sameem last night. I hope it was just an "off night" there, since we've enjoyed their food a lot over the years. The lamb qabelli was the best of anything we ordered, and it was just OK. The sambosas and pakowra were oily and barely warm but even worse, the naan tasted really stale. I've had better naan from frozen, which was really disappointing. And to top it off, they didn't even include the baklava we ordered and payed for. I understand that times are tough for restaurants right now, but Sameem isn't super cheap and the quality just wasn't there across our whole meal. I hope our order was a fluke. Since we've had really great food from them in the past, I'll probably give them one more chance. read more

It was excellent. My husband got chicken soltani, and he was very happy with it. We felt like we were no longer in St. Louis with the decor and look of the inside (meant in a good way). We started with the sambosa. This is a must order for any first timer! I love these and they were great here at Sameem and the sauce was superb. For dinner, I ordered the chicken masala & beef koobeda combo because I wanted a little of both since it was my first time. The chicken in the masala was huge chunks of breast. It was served on the speciality rice which was so flavorful especially when mixed with the tikka masala sauce. I had baklava and turkish coffee for dessert. I'd probably skip dessert next time and opt for only coffee. It was standard baklava. I'd put more savory food in than sweet! read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in St. Louis. It's one of my most frequented spots, and the one I most often recommend to friends and family. I love coming in and seeing the owner, who is super friendly and passionate about what he does. Everything I've tried from the kabobs, to the biryani, to the eggplant boorani has all been amazing! I will say I'm not the biggest fan of their naan bread, but that's okay because they give you so much buttery rice with every meal that I don't personally need the bread. My all time favorite is the lamb Qabelli pallow: fall off the bone lamb shank with delicious rice, sautéed carrots, and raisins. I sometimes find myself craving it. The sweet rice and carrots mixed with the rice and savory lamb is just the best combination to me! So yeah, eat here. read more

Delicious! Three days earlier, I had lunch at a similar, alternative Middle Eastern restaurant . Sameem surpassed it by a long shot in customer service, flavor, presentation, and environment. When my husband and I first entered, it appeared small and quiet. We arrived about 15 minutes after it opened; therefore, I understood the scarcity of people. The hostess offered to take us upstairs, where my entire perception soon changed. There were already a few tables full of other diners, along with a much bigger and wonderfully decorated dining area. I had checked out the online menu choices and the options appeared overwhelming. They have curries, kabobs, rice dishes, along with many other middle eastern and Afghan choices. In my experience too much variety, usually results in all mediocre dishes. I was skeptical. We selected the Mixed Grill, Chicken Curry, and the Mid-Eastern Feast for two. The feast included Falafel with a Tahini sauce and Pakowra with a Chutney (my husband's favorite part of the dish!). Each sauce was a perfect fit. The dish had classic Hummus and Eggplant dips, along with a small portion of their fresh Pashtoon Salad. This was accompanied by thick, warm, naan. The Mixed Grill included a combo of their lamb, ground beef, and chicken. Each seasoned separately to enhance the flavors of the meats. The Chicken curry was loaded with sauce mixing perfectly with the rice. While dining on this delicious food, our waitress and the owner himself came by a couple of times making sure we were satisfied and answering our questions. I first tasted Sameem at the festival of nations in St. Louis, and was extremely impressed. It was my first time trying Afghani food, and I ordered the mango curry meatballs with rice. It was delicious, and I directed all of my friends at the festival to try it as well. Fast forward several months later and I am back in St. Louis for another visit. My boyfriend and I want to branch out and try a new restaurant, and we both decided to try and find our favorite booth from the festival. After some menu searching, we finally found Sameem! We drove to the restaurant full of excitement, and we were not disappointed when we arrived and were greeted by the friendly manager who made conversation before showing us to our table. We ordered the Babaganoush as an appetizer and fought over every last bite. For the main course, I ordered the mango curry meatballs/kofta (again) and my boyfriend ordered the goat from the special menu. The meatball dish comes with a large portion of rice along with naan and chickpea curry sauce (with mild spice). Showed up 15 mins. late for our reservation, but the proprietor was the one who apologized to us for having to accommodate us at a different table, and comped our desserts! So gracious and kind! The food was so fresh and delicious. Started off with the Mid-east Feast appetizer...the salad was so refreshing, the pawkoras so crunchy and tasty, and the chutney so tangy and amazing. Everyone loved everything as we cleaned our plates completely! For our entree, we ordered the Emperor's Platter for two. All meats were cooked to absolute perfection, the two rices were so fluffy and well-prepared, and the presentation was absolutely gorgeous. Just ate the leftovers and it somehow it tasted just as great as yesterday. This place is so unassuming and awesome! Definitely a hole in the wall. My husband and I wanted to try the chicken and lamb kebabs along with the eggplant boorani. We ordered those and they told us we should order the emperor platter because it'll be cheaper and we'll get more food and they were so right. The Emperor platter which comes with chicken, lamb, and beef kabob with Shirazi salad, eggplant boorani, charred tomato and rice which they save serves 2 but I think it can serve 3 hungry people. We don't eat beef so they were kind enough to give us another kebab with half chicken and half lamb. We amso wanted to try the chicken tikka and the owner was nice enough to give us some tikka sauce for free on the side to dip our chicken in. The eggplant boorani came out hot and the sauce on top had so much flavor, it was delicious and a must try. The kebabs were amazing as well and probably the best place I've been to so far in the city. Highly recommend this place for anyone who likes authentic cuisine read more

I used to work in restaurants business and they definitely need to know how to run business. It's been a year since I been there and that's the reason why I don't go there anymore. I have to say for the food, is what saved this place. The food is amazing! Everything we had was delicious! Beef and chicken kabob and rice. The place is very small on the inside and now using plastic ware for forks and knives? A bit tacky? I am sorry but the service wasn't great? There was a big group of 10 people that showed up at the same time as us and they were catered to with service like they were all that mattered. It was a bit crowded but hey, like I said the amazing food saved the day. There are not many middle eastern restaurants in St. Louis. I have to say this food is authentic and so good! I had heard a lot of positive reviews from coworkers so I had very high expectations when going here for dinner. When you walk in the door the smell is amazing. It made me even hungrier and I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. I wasn't sure what to get so I asked for some suggestions. The waitress was very enthusiastic and was very eager to share her favorite meals and described them in great detail. We started with the hummus and I got the chicken masala and beef kebab combo plate. The hummus was tasty and the pita was the right amount of warm and soft. I was very happy with my entree selection - the beef was tender and had all the right flavor without being too much. The chicken masala had a great kick to it that paired well with the beef. The rice was cooked in lamb and had raisins and carrots on top. I'm usually not a fan of raisins in food because it was be too sweet, but this was more on the savory side. Such a friendly welcome when we walked in the door of Sameem for our first time today! When the server learned it was our first time, she quickly assembled a small tasting of hummus and eggplant sides with warm naan. The eggplant dish was fantastic- sweet and cinnamony and the hummus was smooth and lavish. We both ordered lamb(one curry, one karahi). What an amazing find in St. Louis! The place looks so unassuming from the outside that you might just pass it by but inside is cozy and charming and the food was great! We ordered chicken wings for kids and they were super crunchy and yummy. Kabobs and rice were done to perfection and we and our youngkids loved it.
