The offering is not very huge, but it is full of unusual items that we have never tried before. We ordered Labnah for appetizer, which is Turkish bread with yogurt based dipping sauce. It was super tasty. My husband and I both ordered lamb dishes. They came with lots of sides. For the amount of food we got and the quality of the dishes, this is very reasonably priced. This was fine. Not spectacular, not bad. I got their appetizer trio. I didn't like the bread. It was pretty dense and thick. Wished it was going to be a pita. The dips were fine. The actual hummus was my favorite. It had a nice richness that was mellowed by how creamy it was. The babaganoush wasn't my favorite. Honestly, just a touch more salt would've saved it i think. But we were so impressed with the food they offer- we all get complimentary lentils soup with the Turkish bread fresher out from the oven. We ordered three appetizers: humus, grape leaves and Turkish Kunafa. They were all so delicious and the portions are very generous. Our main entrees are shrimp, mixed grill, and lamp shank. We took their food to-go to a picnic before a Muny show. There were 4 of us and we couldn't have been happier or more full. 2 Tawuk (Chicken) dishes, 1 Mixed Grill order and 1 KUZU (lamb shank) plate . The KUZU was so big that they had to split it into 2 to-go boxes. The Hummus appetizer was awesome. We ordered salads without knowing it was included in the entree. This place has so much potential! They have some incredible food like the Mixed Grill and the Ice Cream Kunafa that I would definitely recommend. But they also had a Lamb Biryani that was just a leg of lamb over rice (they include other things on the side too which will be in the pictures) and was not seasoned well compared to the other meats. The service was a bit sporadic as they seemed to be a bit disorganized. The ambiance is great homage to the culture and receiving a lentil soup upon arrival was a nice touch reminiscent to Arabic hospitality. Great ambiance! The light fixtures and whole setup of the restaurant made you feel like you were not in St Louis. The staff was all very nice and we got our food within a reasonable amount of time. I felt like I got a fair amount of food for my meal except I didn't get that much meat on my entree which would have been nice to get a little more. There was lentil soup and zucchini soup that both came with the meal which definitely added value to the 17.99 pretax price point. I got the tawuk and it was very savory between the well prepared chicken, the rice, and the cream sauce that was served with it. Wow. We've ordered Sheesh a few times for carry-out, but to have it at the restaurant is a totally different experience. First off, the restaurant is beautiful, and they have a wonderful outdoor patio where we sat last night. Second, everything is served on the most beautiful Turkish dishes that were imported from Turkey. We began with a lentil soup that was so flavorful and balanced that I could have eaten just that and have been plenty satisfied. We then had the hummus, labneh, and baba ghanoush trio served with their bread, which is almost pastry-like. Delish. Entrees pictured were all to die for. Sheesh is a Turkish restaurant located on S Grand. It's very ornate inside. Great built in seating areas create a nice atmosphere and they add all types of ornate tableware to bring it together. Great for groups and shared dining experiences. The food is tasty and the apple tea is good too! Service was a little slow. We had to call our young server over for every part of the service, but we enjoyed ourselves. They provide a large complimentary bowl of lentil soup. It is delicious, but way too much before a meal. The restaurant itself is super cute and super authentically Turkish. The food was delicious- I highly recommend trying the bread and humus, and the rice I got with my chicken was superb! However, our waitress was super disinterested- she had an AirPod in the whole time and basically never checked on us once we got our food. We came in on a Saturday night and the restaurant had colorful lights dancing on the walls. The interior has a warm, unique, authentic Turkish ambiance. Shockingly, I heard about this Turkish restaurant because of a Facebook Puzza group. They serve a Turkish pizza that I did not get to try because I filled up on baba ghanouj and these fried cheese wraps. Delicious! Oh I also drank a whole pot of the apple tea so I didn't make it to dessert, but the table near us came in specifically for dessert and it looked delectable. The food was excellent. Had a birthday dinner here for a friend and it was the cutest place. It was also really tasty. The appetizer trio was where it was at. The bread was perfect and the dips were all perfectly made. Need a staycation in St. Louis? Come to Sheesh and be transported away to the Middle East where Turkish cuisine and the flavors of the region are showcased throughout this experience. I call it an experience because it IS and experience! I was sold on this place after leaving another restaurant and even though i was full as a tick, I was determined to order something just to have an excuse to go in. At that time I ordered dessert and Apple tea and vowed to come back for dinner. I didn't think it fair to write a review then based on just dessert and hot Turkish Apple tea, so finally I can share a full dinner experience. The decor in this place is so on theme, I would just want to hang out here and enjoy the bright colors, the fun laid back atmosphere and the communal dining sitting areas that lend themselves to conversation over steaming plates of Turkish cuisine. I started off with appetizers of hummus and gozlema, which was a fried pastry pocket stuffed with fresh spinach, cheese and Turkish spices. For $4.99 a piece, how could I NOT order more than 1 appetizer at THAT price? The hummus was brought out with a big pizza-sized plate of Turkish bread that was nice and hot. The hummus was hummus--- not too spectacular. However the gozlema appetizer was delish- crispy yet flaky crust stuffed with hot spinach and cheese and it was phenomenal. I enjoyed every bite. I was torn between the biryani and the kebabs so I ordered both! The chicken biryani and one a la carte ground lamb kabob. Both were brought out in elaborate copper covered plates. Quite the presentation! I was surprised to see the biryani had been cooked and them stuffed in a mold and then plated. Wasn't expecting a star shaped mound of biryani but hey I was in Turkey (or at least it felt that way!) it had a slight differences from Indian biryani with the addition of peas, dried cranberries and a deeper richer flavor and aromatic spices than I have had in the past. But it was good. Chicken was on the way to being a tad over cooked, but overall it was good. It was served with a yogurt sauce which was different, and the yogurt sauce was a more intensified version of tzatiki where the dill, garlic and lemon was very strong. You didn't need much of it to add to your dish. The only reason this place got 4 Stars was the lamb kabob was a little dry, the yogurt sauce helped it, but I don't think I would order it again, although it was presented beautifully with charred vegetables. From my first trip I was highly recommended to try the kunafa dessert, which is a 30-minute wait, so this time I told the server at the beginning I wanted Turkish kunafa for dessert. This dessert is relatively simple- cheese that has been covered in shredded pastry dough baked and covered with warm syrup and pistachios. The cheese has a mi flavor and even tho it doesn't sound very appealing, it is delicious. I am not a hot tea person in restaurants, but I don't care if it is 100 degrees outside I will not pass on the Apple tea here! It was recommended when I had dessert here and I had to get it again. The presentation alone will make you want to order this! For a whopping $2.99 you get a uniquely different and flavorful tea served in a copper tea pot with matching mini tea cup and a mini covered bowl filled with sugar cubes, all on a copper tray. If you have a tea lover in your life just go here for a cup of tea and an appetizer or dessert. The service is good. Not bad not spectacular but good, so nothing to report there. If you haven't checked this place out please do, at least once. The experience will definitely transport you to another place and time during your visit, even if you eventually have to walk out the door to the reality that awaits you on Grand Ave. read more
