We treated my husband to dinner here for Father's Day after seeing a video posted online since he loves Mediterranean food. We really loved the look of the restaurant. There was cushioned bench seating with round metal tables. The music playing was enjoyable. It was a good cultural experience. We ordered grape leaves and kibbeh for appetizers. For entrées we ordered chicken schwarma sandwiches, a beef schwarma sandwich, and the mixed grill. I really enjoyed the chicken schwarma sandwich. It was paired with a garlic sauce however there was enough sauce on it that I honestly didn't need more but it was good to have extra. My daughter thought her beef on her schwarma was a little dry but loved the extra garlic sauce. Both girls liked the fries. I thought the fries were ok but after tasting my husband's rice, I wished I ordered a side of rice. My husband really enjoyed the mixed grill. He said everything was well seasoned and the meat was moist. He loved the rice and pickled vegetables. The only issues we had were that our appetizers came out after our entrées. The family really liked the kibbeh. They loved the crispness of the outside texture. They thought the grape leaves were ok. They also tried two of the Syrian sodas and the Turkish coffee and both were pretty good. Came by here out of curiosity, and it was a mediocre experience. One of the perks is that they have a parking lot for their guests. There was only one server working (my guess is the owner), and so service is incredibly slow. The interior is super unique compared to other restaurants. I felt like I wasn't in St. Louis. Not a big fan of the copper/metal dining tables. It felt a little awkward to eat. Something that felt off was how the server kept cleaning the tables with this aerosol spray (after guests left), and the smell was super strong. I felt like I kept inhaling this while I was eating. I'm from a tropical country and could barely breath. The presentation of the food looks great and the portion was big for its price. However, (don't know if it's because of the heating) everything came out very dry. All the bread were burned and felt like crackers. The sandwich had dry bread and the beef was also over cooked. The hummus was okay but without good bread, we were not fulfilled :( Lampchops were bitter-burned and dry so I had nothing to enjoy with the good rice. I've ordered from here many times before but had an experience today that I will not be able to shake. Ordered takeout on a Thursday, October 16th at 5pm and my payment was taken. The hours of operation on both Google and Yelp clearly state the hours are between 11am and 10pm. I drove in rush hour traffic, hungry, awaiting the food I had paid for. The neon sign on the outside of the restaurant was on. The door was unlocked. I walk in, a man walks up, I said hi, I'm here to pick up an order. He flatly replies "we are closed". I explained that I had placed an order and my money was taken. He shrugged his shoulders at me. I asked if he could turn his ordering system off if they are not open so this wouldn't happen to anyone else. No acknowledgment. I said ok, well, based on this experience I won't be coming back here. He shrugged his shoulders. You'd think, basic empathy. Maybe an acknowledgment of inconvenience. Nothing from this guy. We were getting hungry for lunch and stopped here on a whim. Best.Whim.Ever. Everything we have tried is above average (I'm from the Toledo/Detroit area so I've eaten more than my fair share of middle eastern fare) The exterior of the building is pretty unassuming so I was a bit surprised when we walked in to see that the stone dining room is decked out in colorful, low, cushioned chairs surrounding engraved copper tables and lit by a profusion of mosaic lamps. I could tell right away that this place is a labor of love. They say hunger is the best spice but I'm going to have to say that it's the second best spice, after whatever this chef is doing. Our Tawook and Kafta sandwiches were phenomenal and the fatoush would have been worth it just for the house dressing except that the overall execution was perfect down to the super crispy pita chips. That's why we went back a week later for dinner. You can only try so much at lunch and I knew that I wanted to spend some quality time with the menu, so we settled on the Majeed Platter, a plate of falafel, and some tabbouleh. The platter is a spread in itself and the delightful server was happy to substitute the fatoush, which comes included, with an order of that tabbouleh. Let's break it down starting with the foundation: The rice is that beautiful yellow color and the blend of spices they used gives it a real presence during the meal without overpowering the rest of the food. The kafta I knew already was good. It's well prepared and seasoned. The tawook is plenty tender and full of flavor. The shish kebab though...has an almost buttery texture and is just on the verge of melting in your mouth. This is served with toum (garlic sauce) and a generous portion of hummus. That hummus, by the way, is super smooth...just about perfect really. Honorable mention goes to the tabbouleh which wasn't exactly a superstar of the meal but more of a solid dependable friend supporting all of the rest. Either way, it was quite good and I won't hesitate to order it again. Last thing. Dessert. We typically don't get dessert except that we wanted to try the baklava, which turned out to be just alright. I prefer more nuts in my baklava, but my consolation was this excellent dessert called kunafa which is a cheese and shredded pastry affair drenched in a sweet syrup and I really don't know where it's been all my life. to be fair, I need to be careful with this stuff because I could probably get into trouble eating too much. We're new in town but Majeed was a lucky find and will be in our regular rotation. read more

We got Falafel, Hummus, Beef Fatayer, Kibbeh, Labneh, a vegetarian dish, and the Mix Shawarma (Beef and chicken shawarma with pickles, onions, parsley, and tahini sauce) with Fries. Everything was really good! My favorites were the kibbeh and labneh. I thought they could have had better pita bread. It was very thin and dry and they clearly aren't making it. Otherwise all of the dips and meats were very tasty. We were the only people here during much of our dinner but there were a couple of other tables. The service is OK and the place is clean. This would be a 2 star review but I'm giving it 3 stars because of the service that I received here. I was really looking forward to trying this place because of all of the fantastic reviews, and it has, unfortunately fell quite short. I was going to have a fattoush salad and a mixed grill but decided to have the fattoush on the plate...but it tasted bad. That really is the only way to describe it--it was just plain old bad. It was old tasting and soggy and just disgusting. I was pretty upset that half of my plate was not going to be eaten. I was going to just leave it but I told my server that I wanted to replace the side because not only could I not eat that salad, but I could not eat the one that came with the kibbe because it was also bad. She said that she could replace it with hummus with chicken (or beef) on it, which was a lot better. I wanted to make sure I wasn't being charged for that, because although I don't think I should be- you never know about these places and they didn't charge me so that's good. The kibbe was good, as was the chicken, but the meat and rice were not that great. The rice had an odd taste to it and we didn't eat it, so that was a loss. The tea pots and tea was the only thing I actually liked. The bathrooms were so bad that my child and husband both wouldn't use it. This place could be so great, but they need good management. We ordered " MAJEED PLATER" , When food served , The food ( long Kabob , Lamb Chops etc ) were obviously not fresh ( Rice and meat were old ) and had a sort of smell coming out . We had 3 kids 4 Years , 12 , years and 16 Years , when we arrived Chicago at 10: 00 Pm , 2 kids started vomiting and had sort of food poisoning . Though the Restaurant management tried to make the internal look of restaurant better BUT their quality of food has deteriorated very badly and has adversely effected . Their service was extremely poor . we had to get up from our table and keep on reminding them that " we need plates " , we need this thing .......... For us, it didn't live up to the overall 4.5-star rating. We had lunch here by accident since Mariachi's II was closed unfortunately. My chicken shawarma was over cooked, making it too dry and crispy. The yogurt sauce tasted more like plain sour cream unlike the more addictive, garlicky one at The Vine (on South Grand). The salad was fresh, but the entire entree severely lacked flavor; even the pickle didn't taste as good. My husband ordered the falafel sandwich with fries. He said the sandwich or wrap was good, but the fries were thoroughly forgettable. I sampled a fry, and I must agree with him. I wouldn't have wanted to eat beyond one fry and waste my daily calories on them, even though we both love fries. Typically, the Vine is my go-to for chicken shawarma, which is served with warm pita, rice, and salad or lentil soup, which is some of the best that I've ever tasted. Unfortunately, the Vine has not had a full-service dining area in the last few years, so I have not returned, but their food is levels above what we had for lunch here. Also, there doesn't seem to be a soda machine or water dispenser as we were given two bottled waters, and all other beverages such as soda were in a case. It appeared that they had a smoothie machine, though. The server was a young girl, and she was not friendly at all. Service was fantastic and friendly. We started with the fries because I wanted the garlicky Arabic mayo. They were crispy and quite good and the mayo is the star. We had the vegetarian grape leaves. I've ordered from this place a bunch of times and ate in person for the first time. The family platter is the way to go! You get a ton of food for a good price.
