Jamal was so friendly when I first came, sharing some deserts on the house, giving me tea while I waited, and making sure I was taken care of. The food is very tasty. The chicken is tender and juicy, large portions, and the rice was great. The portions were large enough to save half for lunch the next day. The humus was amazing, and this is coming from a person who's very picky with food. My girlfriend loved her dumplings, and I did as well. Overall, Sami's offers excellent service with a warm and inviting staff that makes you feel right at home. The food is delicious with large portions that will fill you up and or give you leftovers for another meal next time. Sami's has two locations and I can confirm that both of them have the same great service and delicious food. My Afghani friends have said great things about Sami's so I knew I would love it. The portions are very reasonable for any dish, the meat is super tender, and the rice is fragrant- what's not to love? Food was fresh, very kind staff. Was busy when I went so just in time to get a table in the front by the doors. There was another section to sit but that was full. Food was nice fresh , meats were tender and juicy. It's halal. Mostly Meats, they have salmon as well. They have sweet dishes too like Phirni. Had kava after all the food so a nice balance. We got a family platter which wasn't on the menu. But if you flip the menu they have this photo. Just a photo. So the waiter show Us and said this is the family platter and you can customize it like add whatever meats you'd like. They bring salad to you as a free appetizer. Overall food was great. Had an hour to burn before heading to the holocaust museum (definitely recommend, btw!), so the wife and I headed over to Sami's. I wish I had the vocabulary to explain how good the food is, but all I can say is... wow. I had the Uzbeki lamb something something... idk what it's called but it says it's the national dish on the menu. Honestly kinda disappointed while I went here, I was at least expecting water off the get go with a huge party and we didn't even get that at the very least. Anyway, they don't have a family platter which kinda sucks too and the wait is about an hour despite there being very few customers in general. We ordered ashuk and mantoo and both were mediocre. The scallion filling in the ashuk was cold and not properly cooked. The mantoo lacked sauce and flavor. For an entree we ordered chicken tikka and ground beef kebab. When the waiter brought our food he brought a mix platter, which was not what I ordered. He said he wouldn't charge me for the mix platter. When receiving the bill I was charged for the mix platter and I had to speak with the waiter about the mix up. He said he will fix the bill so that I was only charged for the original order and nothing more. The waiter did correct the bill but this just shows that the service and food need improvement. read more

They start you with an enormous, complimentary seasoned salad and bring over a silver trio of dipping sauces (red - pepper, green - vinegary, white - garlic yogurt). For appetizers, we ordered the hummus (really yummy cumin seasoning) and the kuchale (fried dough stuffed with onion, cilantro, etc) and for mains, my friend got the chicken kebab, and I got the vegetarian eggplant dish. Served w Afghan flatbread and pilaf. Had to doggy bag the leftovers to eat at home. Excellent service too. Had a craving for chicken kebob and rice and this place came up as a suggestion on yelp. I ordered online which was very easy and my food arrived about 30 minutes later. I got the chicken kebob with rice and added the carrots and raisins. The chicken was very moist and flavorful, the rice was nice not mushy and I loved the addition of carrots and raisins. The food was authentic, well seasoned, and well prepared. You could appreciate the effort that was placed preparing the food, and the ambiance was warm. Came here as a guest for a Baptism party yesterday. By far, the best Afghan cuisine I have ever had. The servers were very warm and pleasant. The food was phenomenal. From the rice, lamb shank, kebabs, and dumplings, I honestly couldn't pick a favorite. I don't live very close to this place, but I would absolutely come back. Its a corner spot in Glen Cove I have passed it many times when I go do my nails and wondered if it was an upscale place or casual dine in. I finally went in on a Sunday. I walked in and thought it was closed...All the chairs were up on the tables. There was no indoor lighting. They seemed to rely on natural lighting for a place with minimal windows. While the waiter was very nice, while we looked over the menu they were mopping the floors. It was very strong smelling especially when they mopped right next to us! Then they sprayed the place with febreeze which was uncomfortable while we were eating our salads. The food we ordered was tasty, but it was not a great dining experience. Something else I found strange was that they did not give us glasses for our beverages, just kept it in the can. If I bought again it would be for takeout. read more
