Thoroughly enjoyed every part of this meal from service to the recommendations made by the waiter to the food. We started off with the bread basket with butter and flaky sea salt, then Insalata Di Cicoria. The salad was delicious- the crunch, the sweetness from the walnuts and the creamy and tartness from the ricotta paired perfectly with the white balsamic vinaigrette. Then we opted in for the La Grande Grigliata Mista as per the recommendation from the waiter, and he knew exactly what he was doing. We got various cuts of beef (rib and tenderloin) and lamb chops and they were spot on. The tenderloin was my favourite. We also got the Astice Arrosto and side of asparagus to complement our meats. Simply delicious. We were too full for desserts therefore didn't get it. However, do save this place for a special night out. You won't regret it. read more

Had a first rate experience on a cold Toronto night, with the exception of some service hiccups. Our waitress seemed to dissappear for long stretches. Extremely expensive wine list and suspiciously out of some of the more reasonably priced options. And had to repeatedly ask for our wine glasses to be refilled. A poor omen for such a high end restaurant. Fortunately, the food was amazing. More great bread, especially the foccacia, which was warm and served with excellent butter. Shared an interesting dish of caviar, creme fraiche, prawns and scallops, all mixed together. Sounds odd, but it was delicious. Had the sirloin which was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the shrimp were huge and flavorful. Highly recommend the chocolate cake to finish as well. Would definitely return! read more

Book this restaurant to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday last night. Honestly had the most wonderful time and service was impeccable. From coat checking our jackets to our server who served our table. We ordered the bread to start and it was delicious! Proceeded with the squid and tuna crudo. Omg were these delicious. I especially loved the tuna crudo- definitely a MUST when you visit. For the main, I ordered the ribeye steak , it was cooked perfectly to medium rare how we liked it and the steak was truly really good. As a side we ordered broccolini and chefs kiss delicious!! Dessert we ordered the chocolate cake- BEST chocolate cake I've had so far in Toronto. Honestly. It was delicious!!! My boyfriend isn't a sweet tooth and he finished his half portion. Celebrated my birthday here and I loved the atmosphere here. Our server (Vincenzo) was amazing! Very attentive, explained the entire menu, and gave his own recommendations. I was in love with our seating, loved how intimate and cozy the booth was. Things We Ordered: - OLIVE ALL' ASCOLANA ($18): loved how crispy this was. I've never had anything like it, but it's like a deep fried meatball stuffed with a green olive. 7/10 - FRUTTI DI MARE E OSTRICHE ($95): this seafood platter came with a huge variety of seafood. It came with oysters, lobster tail, tuna tartare, salmon, shrimp cocktail, scallop, and mussels. There was a slight hiccup with this dish, but the server and chef immediately fixed it, and the chef even came by our table. 7/10 - BOMBETTE ALLA GRIGLIA ($32): a skewer of pork stuffed with scamorza cheese and wrapped with pancetta, rolled in breadcrumbs and fried. Very flavourful, and the meat was so tender. 8/10 - SPIGOLA ALLA GRIGLIA ($68) + CAVOLETTI (Brussel Sprouts) ($22): fried sea bass. lots of flavour in this! It was my partner's favourite. The brussel sprouts were also great, with a bit of spice to it. 9/10 - PROFITEROLES ($26): a puff pastry dessert with loads of hazelnut flavour in it. It's basically a ferrero rocher dessert with icecream. Loved the presentation as well. A bit on the heavier side, but it was loaded with goodness. 9/10 - GELATO AL PISTACCHIO ($20): pistachio gelato. The mix between the pistachio and maldon salt was interesting to me. I think I prefer the gelato by itself. 6/10 - Complimentary BLANC DE BLANCS sparkling wine for my birthday. The staff at this restaurant are amazing! So so attentive. Every server was involved in serving your table, from refilling our water glasses to wiping down our table after every meal, to picking up the dishes. Everyone was very kind. A huge shoutout to our main server Vincenzo though, he definitely made our night. I can tell why this restaurant is on Michelin's radar. Another good steakhouse in a cluster of great steakhouses. Sammarco is the newest steakhouse entry by renowned chef Rob Rossi of Giulietta and Osteria Giulia. It mostly lives up to the high bar set by this pedigree. Upon entry the decor is decidedly dark and classy. My wife mentioned it reminds her of ultra exclusive Polo bar in New York. We love fine dining and were really looking forward to the experience. Serving staff was as expected at a fine dining restaurant. Attentive, available and engaging. One small niggle to point out is that the really high end restaurants fully replace your napkin with a new one when you leave the table. Here they just refold it for you. A nice touch and on par with this experience. But it's a nice touch when the diner doesn't have to then search for the dirty side to make sure they don't use it upside down. Food was solid. We had the following: FRUTTI DI MARE E OSTRICHE Our Finest Chilled Seafood & Oysters, served with Sea Salt, Lemon & Olive Oil This was different, smaller, but elevated compared to seafood towers in this category. While there was less than others (and a correspondingly lower price) they do elevate certain elements that move it ahead of other places that simply put a bunch of cold seafood on beds of ice and serve. We were treated to oysters, Scottish smoked salmon, tuna tartare, deconstructed shrimp cocktail, seasoned mussels, scallop ceviche, and lobster on crème fraiche. Of note were the tartare, scallops and tuna tartare where they elevated each dish with unique seasonings that made it a step above traditional chill and serve options. FETTUCCINE ALLA SCROFA 'CENTO UOVA' 100 Egg Fettucine, 24 Month Parmigiano Reggiano & St. Brigid's Butter This is delicious if you love heavy aged cheese. I do and this was fantastic. Wife doesn't like super cheesy so it was a miss for her. Beware this is surprisingly heavy. COSTATA 32oz Ribeye This is a large piece of meat and was cooked well. They focus on local meats from Cumbrae's that is 60-day dry aged and prime quality. It's good but I would have preferred that they source the meat from the absolute best of the world instead of the best locally. CAULILINI 'Nduja & Hazelnuts This side was interesting as they serve a broccolini/ cauliflower hybrid slightly charred and with cheese. Delicious. ANANAS SOTTOSOPRA Pineapple, Fior di Latte Gelato & Aged Rum This was unique, huge and fantastic. The exterior tasted like a croissant around pineapple with ice cream and smothered with aged rum. A fantastic symphony of flavours. Get this. Tip: you will need a knife to cut the pineapple. Overall a solid experience. Nothing blew me away but this was certainly an elevated steak house experience and a worthy entry in this area's elite quality steakhouse scene. read more

Excellent vibes / service / food from top to bottom. They'll probably be next on the Michelin list and it's fair game. Restaurant is extremely expensive so not for the faint of heart. As for the food, everything was excellent but I thought their 100 egg pasta was just way too overpriced for $78, though it is rich and silky smooth. I liked the bluefin tuna crudo and seafood risotto much more. Desserts were so excellent it was tough to pick a favourite, but I would lean to the chocolate cake with espresso cream. read more

Very intimate restaurant with unique dishes filled with high quality ingredients! Food: (sorry but the names of the dishes were hard to remember) Salads - Quality of the ingredients are high quality and the presentation is very glamorous, that being said, it didn't blow me away in terms of the best salad I've ever had. But they did taste healthy and very fresh. Steak tartare - Tasted great and was great to share between two people, but is not accompanied with any bread or crackers, I would get this again though Steak - We ordered the steak Medium-Rare, but I would personally prefer Medium. Fettuccine - Tasted very lavish and you could taste the flavour of the dozens of eggs used but the price is quite steep for $78 Mashed potatoes - I really enjoyed the mash potatoes, I would even put it up there as one of the best I've ever had! Perfect texture and taste! Fried potato appetizer - Tasted great Chocolate cake - Amazing! I loved this cake and would visit just for this! Very decadent! I loved every bite! Pistachio gelato - Incredible! I never had a pistachio gelato dessert and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. I would also get this again. Service: Very classy and professional service. I appreciate them hanging onto my jacket upon arriving. We didn't wait long for food and everything came out at a good pace. Our server was very attentive! Ambience: Dim lighting, intimate vibes, average noise level, and fancy but modern decor. Great for couples. Overall, it was quite the expensive dinner totalling $600+ for a party of 5. Anyone abstaining from carbs should look away as the elevated tray of pane e burro ($12) arrives. The beautiful golden brioche and fluffy focaccia would certainly have me reaching for a bun. They're presented with a generous portion of high fat St. Brigid's butter to spread to your heart's delight. It's particularly intoxicating alongside the la mortazza ($26). The paper-thin slices of mortadella are studded with just enough al tartufo truffle to give it an enthralling aroma but not overpower the delicate slices. Paired with delicate, crispy breadsticks for wrapping, the mortazza is delightful however you choose to enjoy it. After all that rich meat, we welcomed the vibrant insalta di cicoria ($32), a salad that could easily start any festive meal. Any bitterness from the heirloom radicchio is tempered by candied walnuts and a sweet beet vinaigrette. Shaved ricotta salata adds a touch of creaminess, though the salad could use more than the few chive slivers to round out its savoury notes. Chef Rob Rossi mentioned that the crudo di tonno ($45) is becoming a signature dish at Sammarco. It's an inventive take on tuna crudo--bluefin almost pulverized and layered over a silky foie gras cream, topped with a bright mix of blood orange and herbs. The effect is like a seafood pâté that's impossibly light. It's lovely, though it could benefit from a final touch of flaky sea salt for contrast. By the time the wagyu striploin arrived, I was giddy from the wine pairing. The steak was done rare but heated through the centre, perfectly balanced so it didn't feel undercooked. The ultra-crispy potato pavé was universally adored--wonderful on its own or swirled through the marsala wine jus. I often find steakhouses over-season their meat, so I appreciated Sammarco's restraint. Alas, the portion disappeared in just a few bites. Since this was a group event, I was glad for a composed plate, though normally Sammarco offers larger steaks for sharing (or not), from the 8oz tenderloin ($110) to the 40oz porterhouse ($330), with sides ranging from $20-$32. We ended with the torta al cioccolato ($28): an evenly layered chocolate cake filled with dark chocolate ganache and resting on a bed of espresso cream. The dessert was surprisingly light, and every last bite was devoured. read more

Sammerco is a nice design restaurant in downtown Toronto. It is Osteria Giulia and Giulietta sister restaurant. Upon arrival, we already got warm greetings from our waiter Scottie. Ordered the chilled seafood platter, duck and chocolate cake. The seafood platter is a great deal, it has 4 French oysters, half lobster tail, 4 mussels, 6 cocktail shrimp, scallop crudo, 3 pieces smoke salmon, and tuna tartar. I especially like the tuna tartar with the lettuce wrap, so fresh! However, I noticed some Google photos have 5 pieces of smoke salmon instead of 3 pieces. This need to be more consistent because diners will compare the photos. The whole duck is amazing as it is totally different than the other fine dining restaurants. It has a bit of spicy touch with plum sauce. Finishing up with the chocolate cake with espresso sauce. Everything gave us a WOW factor from the food, service and design. When we left, one of the managers also check with us to make sure we are happy with the experience. We will definitely come back to try out more dishes!! read more

Tried Sammarco myself recently. To be fair this should be a 3.5 star rounded down. Got a three course meal plus a glass of wine to pair with the steak, was paying a grand total of $250+. It was a delicious meal with a substantially portioned steak covered in really tasty sauce. But at this price range I expect the food to be more than just delicious - it should amaze me in some way, if not in every way. But unfortunately I didn't quite feel it here when reflecting on it. The Good - The restaurant advertises itself to be an Italian steakhouse, and it was why I gave it a try - I was looking for something nouveau rather than the old fashioned steakhouse experience. The appetizer and dessert selection were unique indeed. It was a delight to taste the tuna and foie gras combo once again but outside the famous Le Bernardin in NYC. The steak was quite a generous portion, plus the sauce was all too good to be wasted. Now the Less Satisfying - This place may not be the best option for solo diners. There were only 4 types of steak to choose from, and only one was for solo diners - the 8oz tenderloin. Many plates are designed for group to share, like a mixed grilled meat platter or the 40oz Florentine. The beef were all sourced from local farms and aged for 60 days. My meat was fine but...doesn't seem to be that special to justify the $110 price tag. I won't say I've experienced all this place could offer. There are other choices for appetizers/dessert that are interesting, as well as other main dish options than steak. Dining as a group would probably feel differently - at least there'd be more liberty in steak selection, plus more "to share" plates to consider. Revisit is a maybe, it's a delicious meal after all. But to be honest I'd at least hesitate in front of that price tag - why won't I go get a tasting menu somewhere if I'm to spend this much on a meal? ...a good reason is needed, and I'm not sure if I'd fine one. read more

Came by for a work event and it was excellent. The service was amazing and the room we had was private, cosy but not cramped. The food was excellent throughout. My only complaints would be the they offered a mule but their glass was not your standard mule container. Also the coconut cream pie was meh. Maybe I'm just not a fan of everything else was great. By far one of the best new restaurants in Toronto! It's been a long time coming, but definitely worth the wait! They have done such an incredible job and such an impeccable amount of thought and detail has gone into this entire venue. The decor is gorgeous and a bit whimsical. I love that they have featured local artists as well. It was so nice to see many familiar faces and staff from other restaurants in Toronto. The service was attentive and exceptional just as I've experienced at their partner venues. The menu itself boasts impressive cuts of meat, but also incredible pasta and seafood options. They have a very impressive wine list as well as cocktails and mocktails. Stand out dishes include the mixed mushrooms, were some of the best that I've ever had. Hands down the best dish of the night and probably one of the best dishes I've ever had was a play on Le Bernardin's tuna with foie gras, but this was even better! I would come back for this dish alone! The mixed grill platter is a great way to try many of their meat offerings and has generous portions of lamb, steak, sausage, and short ribs. Overall, this was such an exceptional experience, and is an exciting new addition to the Toronto food scene. Congrats! read more
